I used to love this restaurant growing up, but in the past five years, the quality has gone down. the TV in the main room was WAYYYYYYY too loud and multiple customer sat near it thinking it would be OK AND THEN moved away shortly after because of the volume,not very family friendly if you ask me. The quality of food is not what I remember and the lady at the counter had a hard time communicating to me that the shrimp burgers did not also contain a patty. It was just fried shrimp with the tails still on in the sandwich. J Anthony's is local and delish! So why did I give 3 star? Well let me tell you. Don't let the 3 stars scare you. Try them! You might think it's 5! I get them when I'm craving fried fish, and the food is so good! I can tell the oil is clean because my fish is perfectly golden. The fries are nice and crispy! And they have great appetizers! My mouth is watering thinking about it. Yum!! Oh and tea!!! SO BOMB!! So sweet and perfect. So here's why it's 3 stars: The service! Always the service. This place is a super home-y, like you've been coming here since you were a little stinker! And the ladies up from the restaurant are normally kind of pushy, and yell at you when you're getting your order. If you're not used to the tough love type of service, it could be very off putting. Stopped by the restaurant today as I was looking for a fish/seafood place in the area. I ordered the whole fried Mojarra with fries and coleslaw. Let me start with the service. Kudos to the cashier and the server who brought the food out and the busser. They were all very friendly and welcoming! I appreciate the hospitality. Now for the food. We ordered the calamari, the oyster platter and the shrimp platter. The calamari was great but there was no marinara sauce with it, in fact no sauce at all. It was the same with the oyster platyer and shrimp platter. The cashier said there was red sauce on the bar but it was real watery. I think with a marinara sauce and real cocktail sauce everything would have been delicious, and they would have gotten 5 stars from me. Yesterday we went to go get dinner and what we got was fish that fell apart easily it was almost inedible it was so gross we had to throw it out. As soon as we picked one up it fell apart it tasted really bad. We didn't go through the hassle of taking it back because my daughter was feeling sick. So we no longer wanted to go back. We basically wasted almost $45 for Tea ,fries, and Mac and cheese which by the way they no longer have the cheesy shells anymore. For being how expensive it is it sucks it was not made right. They have horrible service and the food isn't even that good to deal with crap service. We ordered two kid meals and two adult plates. They delivered 3out of the four. Gross about sums it up. I ordered the baked fish and shrimp plate. I've never had fish soup before and the fish was so fishy. The flavor of the soup was spicy but blah. The carrots and zucchini that was in it was ok but not that flavorful. The cocktail sauce was so watery it didn't have much flavor at all. Asked for pure horseradish and made my own with ketchup. The pure horseradish was not very hot. SMH. Maybe old? The cucumbers on the salad was not white and they were slimy. The baked fish was blah. No flavor. The shrimp was ok. The fried shrimp had a weird flavor and putting a ton of sauce on it didn't help. Still have the nasty flavor in my mouth. I think the grease was old. The fries tasted like fish. Beware of this location. Double check your bags in front of them!!! Manager will accuse you of lying about missing items (even something as small as $3!). Our family has been a customer for many years and usually orders every Sunday at all locations. Sadly this won't be the case anymore. Today's experience has tarnished their reputation. Terrible customer service from young inexperienced manager. I Checked my small pick up order as soon as I got in the car. Order was missing a $3 order of okra (no big deal. went back to let them know) they insisted they gave it to me and asked to search my bags.. I thought that was weird but I still Brought the bags back to show them and manager Jesse looked upset like if I was lying and said he'd replace it. After a long wait I received my small 2 oz okra and drove home with soggy fries and fish from the wait. Got home to find another part of the order was wrong (large mash instead of rice). Normally none of this would be an issue but the fact that the manager kept insisting he gave us the correct order even after taking my bags back, prompted me to call and let them know they did in fact mess up or give us the wrong order. He continued accusing us of having received a first order of okra and said they had it on camera?? It was extremely rude and frustrating for the manager to not acknowledge they messed up our order, inconvenience us with an even longer wait, continue to accuse us and say he gave us an "extra" order of okra even after I showed him our bags. It wasn't extra, it was a replacement from the one I never received. Guess I should have let him search our car too?! He still stands by giving us a correct order and probably thinks I hid or ate an order of okra in my car immediately after receiving the bags. Like who even has the time to make up a lie about a small side order missing, it was $3 I just wanted it replaced without the accusations. I also let him know we didn't want anything in return, replaced or redo of the order. He just needed to know he is wrong and should not accuse customers for something he mixed up. Owners need to replace or reprimand the manager Jesse for accusing long time customers of lying about missing items even after checking the bags and failing to acknowledge, apologize and just simply and kindly replace it. This place is awful!! I ordered the stuffed shrimp plate with fries and veggies. The stuffed shrimp was stuffed with gross stuff, who knows what was in it. It was very mushy and didn't taste good. The fries seemed like they were cooked in OLD oil and were saturated in it. The veggies was like I was eating Caldo. My daughter ordered the fried shrimp plate and the only thing that was okay was the shrimp. The side of rice was cold along with the mushy green beans. First time we dined in and the food was mediocre but the worst part is that it smelled like dirty mop and we witnessed manager being really rude to another small group of people that apparently had complained. We decided not to come back. However several months later we really wanted seafood and we saw it on Postmates and decided to order. Well, we never received it. The order was just canceled for no reason after waiting for 30 minutes. Called the restaurant and was told by a very rude manager that they don't deliver, I asked why they were on the Postmates app he said he didn't know but the owner does not want to deal with any deliveries. I am writing this review based on my experience prior to the coronavirus. We came in on a Wednesday, it was not very busy a little less then half full inside. We went inside we stood at the counter for several minutes with no one coming up. Then a guy with short black hair and glasses came up and stared at us. This is where a person who works in the service industry would say hello, welcome, hi, anything, what do you want. I said hello I like to place an order to go, so he went to the register and I gave him the order. I asked him if the meals come with drinks since he didn't bother to ask us. Then we paid and he walked away. He didn't say how long it would be or anything else. Another customer who was already eating in came up to ask for something and he also was greeted with a blank stare. After about 15 minutes we got our food. The food was good not great. Fries were a little dark from being in the fryer too long or reheated. However the fish was crisp and tasted fresh. The hush puppies were crispy and tasted fresh as well. I moved back to this area and its close to my house but I would much rather go to a place out of my way then deal with a person who knows nothing of serving the public. His body language and lack of talking was very obvious and what its says about this place is that they don't care about customers waiting, serving eat-in customers, or up-selling additional items on the menu. If you don't like the public, quit, there are others that could take that job and care about what they are doing. The upper level management is the worst example of professionalism. Someone dear to me worked hard for four years for this particular location and through these years was treated , and I put this very mildly, more than unkind. These people degrade thier employees, talk down to them in front of them and behind thier back. I wont go into all details, that's for the better business bureau. And as a sidenote, when a manager decides to"cut all ties" with an employee during his shift and sends him home, the employing company still is obligated to pay him for the remainder of his scheduled shift. If a place of employment treats their own as such I can only imagine how they treat their guest and the care they put into thier food. But thats for another day. read more

We typically go by here after work since it's on the way home. Food is usually hot, drive thru is quick and service is friendly. However this past Saturday wasn't the case. Fish & fries were hot but the rice was barely warm. We asked for their house sauce, he said it was for dine in only. When we told him we've gotten it before in the drive thru, he seemed a bit annoyed and said they didn't have any. So why not just say that to begin with.
