Okay, let me say first I used to come here all of the time in high school when it was owned by the previous owners. LOVED it. It was cozy, welcoming, quirky and warm. Now, the whole vibe inside feels pretentious and very barren. Super disappointing what they've turned it into. And the drinks are way expensive Used to get the drinks here to support the sweet owners, and the prices used to be at least comparable to Starbucks, but now it's more expensive (which is ridiculous), and the new owners have bleached the place of all personality & gone corporate. I got an almond milk SF caramel latte & it was good, although they use sweetened Silk almond milk. I like that they have SF caramel & Vanilla, most places only have vanilla. read more

Oh this gem of ours is loved dearly because it is hand down one of the best chai I've had. It literally tasted like Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Not overly sweet, and doesn't taste like anything artificial. Hubby says out of all the places to get coffee they never get his order wrong here, and that's his iced americano, extra ice, no water. We love the drive through option as parking can be very tricky. You'd have to park on the sides and walk over, not a bad option to do when the beach is right there so depends on your mood. read more

I got a cold brew with sugar-free caramel syrup. I'm glad that they offered sugar-free options. The coffee itself was not very flavorful , it seemed watered down or something . I think that it was just a very light roast . The caramel flavor made it feel even lighter . My friend got a dirty chai latte which she seemed to enjoy. The price was pretty typical. They offered both a medium and a large for the cold brew and their other drink drinks they offered in a small, medium and large They accepted contactless payment. I liked the decorations, including large bookshelves. It said that you could purchase these books for a very affordable price. It had a small interior, but there were comfortable seating options. The barista was friendly and helpful and the service was quick I went at 430pm so I'm very glad that they were still open. Lots of coffee shops close early, but this one is open until six. Overall, I thought the coffee was pretty good, although it was nothing that blew me away . They have a very large menu full of other drinks that I would love the opportunity to review if I was invited back. read more

Came across this cute coffee shop a couple years ago in Dana Point. We were driving and saw a line of cars in the drive thru and said it must be good look at all the cars and we were pleasantly surprised that it was indeed so good. Went to JC Beans the 1st time in a while to get breakfast this morning on my 30 minute work break. Parked and went inside and ordered a vegetarian burrito and an iced London fog. The other people I was with got their orders before me and I waited about 10-15 minutes for my burrito. As I was standing there - out of the corner of my eye - I noticed the employee give someone a burrito because "he had an extra one warmed up". I assumed that this was a different burrito. Another five minutes go by and I still don't have my burrito so I asked the employee and he proceeds to heat one up. He handed me my drink and the burrito. But the burrito was too hot to even open for the next 5-10 minutes. As I'm already back in the parking lot of my job down the street, I opened the burrito and had a bite and it had meat in it I don't eat meat and was really upset that they clearly forgot about my order and then proceeded to give me the wrong thing. If I hadn't had to go back to work, I would have turned around and gotten a refund but really unfortunate I wasn't able to. read more

I'd heard good things about this place and was excited about the books, but was sorely disappointed by the terrible service and poor quality drinks (that we paid $10 for 2 of). The man behind the counter did not listen to our orders at all (repeated them back to us as completely different than we ordered.. different sizes, iced vs hot etc), and was wiping his hands through his long hair the whole time while making our drinks... unsanitary. 1 star only for the books. They give you a card to stamp whenever you buy a coffee. After 9 stamps, you get a free coffee. I had two cards from them because I don't always remember to bring them. My two cards equal 9 stamps. When I gave them to the cashier, she said they all have to be on the same card. I said that doesn't make sense since I fulfilled my part by buying so many coffees. She asked another girl who said "that's our policy ". I couldn't believe such poor business practices and poor customer service. So now I go to Philz accross the street. read more

I was visiting the area and decided to pop in and try this spot. The servers are friendly and it's a chilled spot. Lots of people do the drive through due to the fact that parking is limited and you sometimes need to park around the corner on the street. The coffee is good, but they do not do ceramic cups even if you dine in so you can't get a true taste of the coffee if you are a connoisseur, hence I just got a latte and no doppio per the usual when I try new spots. The staff is friendly. The croissants are yummy. And the drinks are even better. I got a Spinach, Kale & Cheese croissant with a hot chai latte. This is one of the best chai lattes I've had and the croissant was the perfect little snack. This is a super cozy place. Perfect for studying, getting work done, or just casual reading. The have a small indoor lounge, as well as, a super adorable outdoor patio. The have parking specifically for their customers through the alley at the back of the cafe. The also have a drive thru! If I was local , this would definitely be one of my go-tos. read more

The guy I've been dating and I didn't go to bed until after 4am so coffee was a must! He said he used to work here a long time ago and they have some good coffee. It was my turn to drive so I wasn't able to take any pictures of my experience. That and we were both very sleep deprived while on a time crunch. It was a drive thru coffee house so I wasn't able to catch the name of the barista working the window. She was very sweet and even complemented my jewelry. My date got a black iced coffee which he seemed to enjoy! I wasn't sure what to get so I told the barista I needed a pick me up with a splash of oat milk. She gave me a cold brew with oat milk which tasted strong and gave me energy to get through my late night shift. I'm always in Dana so I will be making this a regular coffee spot. read more

Just came in and had a horrible experience!!! We waited 10 minutes in our car after ordering. We were the only car in the drive thru for those 10 minutes. The drive thru server treated us so bad. Fortunately the manager witnessed this and apologized. When the server gave us our drinks, he stared us down!!! At that point I told the manager to keep the drinks and give us a refund. Will never be back again. The managers excuse is, they are young!! We have been coming over for over six years and will never be back. The last few times I've ordered from here the coffee has tasted so burnt. I really want to support local, but I feel like this place charges for every little thing. I ordered a breve vanilla latte with whipped cream and they charged not only for the breve, but also for the vanilla and for whipped cream. I ended up paying $8 for a latte (I was shocked) because I usually pay around $6 with the same exact order every time which was always fine and when I asked them how a latte went from being $6 to $8 they explained the charged for everything I added to my latte and they were so rude about it too. I used to come to this coffee shop to get breakfast burritos and lattes, but as of recently, ive noticed that their quality has changed. Its not the same food, or Its not handled with care like it used to be. I used to order a specific latte from their old menu (which is gone and updated with their newer menu) , but i couldn't remember the name and everything ive ordered from the new menu is plain, not as good as that drink from the other menu! Hate to leave a bad review but this place has gone downhill in my opinion. I've been coming here since 2010 and had such a disappointing experience with some of the new staff. I used to be greeted with a friendly welcome, today it felt like the barrista and his accomplice could care less. The long wait time was abnormal. And talk about attitude!!! It's been at least a couple years since I left a review and the last review I left was not great. So today I decided to go back and update my review. I got a small latte and a cinnamon roll. The latte tasted like burnt coffee poured over milk Second the cinnamon roll is smaller than before and was hard as a rock from the outside to the middle like it had been sitting on the shelf for a week. I basically just wasted my money, went home and threw everything in the trash. Wanted my morning coffee and my friend recommended JC Beans and it was great. It's a drive through coffee shop but because it can get packed on the side of the road, they have two lanes and someone directing traffic. The iced vanilla latte is excellent, with very strong espresso but also balanced perfectly against the sweetness and creaminess of the drink. It's quite refreshing on a coastal califonia morning. I wish more of my morning coffee tasted like this. If you want food, the ham breakfast burrito is a hefty morning meal and maybe better suited for bunch but I like the composition - salty ham, creamy eggs, melty cheese and some chopped green chilis to cut the heft.
