Great experience for lunch here. I sat at the bar and had a cup of their crab soup, very flavorful and full of crab, roasted corn and tomatoes. I finished my lunch with an awesome goat cheese and pear salad. Breaded and fried goat cheese was awesome! We have lived within walking distance of this place for almost a year and finally went. It was delicious. We had the wild mushroom and goat cheese bruschetta appetizer and it was to die for. J Corks is very good. I've had dinner here a few times while in Greensburg. I've had the entrees and the pasta dishes. Both have nice portions and every meal has been fantastic. We had dinner at J Corks on Sat, Feb 12, 2022. We made a reservation because we had tickets to attend the Symphony at the Palace Theatre. When I made the reservation, the person I spoke with did not mention that there would be a limited menu because of Valentines Day. We arrived at 5:00 PM for our 5:30 reservation, so we sat at the bar and had a drink. The bar service was mediocre at best. Once we were seated at our table we noticed the Valentines Day Special. Since the menu was very limited, we both chose this option, which consisted of a Filet & a Lobster tail. When the meal was delivered to our table, we noticed that we were given a filet, pasta, asparagus and a Lobster Tail that was cut down the middle. They literally gave us each a "sawed in half lobster tail". I double checked the menu & it clearly stated "Lobster Tail". I would have just ordered a Filet if I had known that this was what I would get. Not impressed! We expressed our opinion to the waitress & she told us that she would tell the management. read more

Went here with the fiance and his parents this weekend. Luckily, we were able to get a table outside! The inside was cute, it's an old house that has been redone. The weather was so nice though, and the patio featured some live music. The menu was very nice, and while the dishes weren't the most creative I have ever seen, they were dishes that most people would like. The salads all sounded good (pear and goat cheese caught my eye) but I went with the jumbo pan seared scallops. We ordered the calamari as an appetizer. The calamari here was amazing! The batter was so light, and the squid were not overfried. So tasty, so delicious, and (the best part) you get so much of it! Oh, they also had pretty good bread, but who needs bread when there's calamari, right?? The entrees were fine, although nobody seemed blown away by their food. My scallops were really good, nicely cooked (i.e. not chewy or stringy) and the anchovy butter definitely contributed to the dish. Others at the table had the red snapper, and enjoyed it. However, seems like J Corks dropped the ball on the side dishes. The rice pilaf was plain. It didn't have any seasoning. The asparagus was also lacking flavor... where are the spices at, yo? Our waitress was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. I think this is a place with nice atmosphere and is probably one of the nicer restaurants in greensburg, based on the driving tour I was given on the way there. Pretty sure everyone will find something they'd like to eat, and my only complaint is that the side dishes were pretty bland. Went for an early dinner on a Saturday. We called on the way and made reservations on the patio. It was a cool spot with a nice vibe. We were sat promptly and the outdoor seating was nice and clean. My wife and I went out for a nice dinner and some wine. We sat at the bar. The bartender was absolutely fantastic, he was very personable and efficient. We enjoyed a great bottle of wine and he talked us into the Pork Chop special. We eat out a lot and I have to tell you.....we were both in awe with the dinner. This place was a pleasant surprise for a last minute, dinner decision with friends. Arriving to great curb appeal and a colonial-esque building, J.Corks is a cozy, yet gracefully charming venue that immediately wanted us to return during warmer weather to enjoy the patio. Nevertheless, once inside, the staff accommodated our reservation (made en route, in the car) and seated us in at a cozy, corner table adjacent to the bar area. From there, we dined...and dined well. For starters, the spinach and cheese dip with pretzels - while seemingly just pub fare - was outstanding. I could eat that every day and never be disappointed...as could everyone at the table, as it was easy to get to the last bite quickly. As for cocktails, the bartender "took care of us" by meeting the needs of everyone at our table and serving delicious concoctions that were all to easy to order again (and again). Then came the grub...which ranged from steak to lobster to fish at the table and prompted bite sharing all around, for everyone to be jealous of what the other person ordered...the hallmark of good eats. This was my first time here, and I will admit the food was pretty good, but the rest of my family was disappointed because they recently changed their menu, and in the opinion of my family's, the change was not for the better. I honestly think that the best part of the meal was the pizza appetizer. It was amazing. The balsamic vinegar drizzle that topped the pizza made my mouth hungry for more. My dad was disappointed that his bowl of pasta contained about only 7 twirlfuls, and honestly I had my mouth very mad at me after I tried their ceviche special. It was 2 pieces of shrimp and 3 scallops and the salsa was a jalapeno, strawberry mix... ehhh me thinks not. But, my mothers gnoccis and panchetta was absolutely mouthwatering. I like J. Corks. The food is good, the decor is elegant but comfortable, and the servers have always been friendly but not overbearing. Two issues with my last visit, however: (1) Two of us ordered bourbon. Imagine our surprise when it arrived in chilled whisky glasses! I don't think it was the fault of the server, who fixed it at once, but I'm at a loss as to why this would happen in the first place. (2) The music. Hair-metal from the 80s: Scorpions, Def Leppard, Survivor, etc. As much as I enjoy reliving my twelfth year on the planet, when MTV was just coming into being, the total clash between the environment and the music was distracting. In a setting as elegant as J. Corks, you want jazz. Or fusion. Or, well, anything but 80's hair-metal. read more

Wonderful ambiance, knowledgeable staff, and the location is excellent if you're going to a show at the theater around the corner. Outside there are several areas to eat illuminated by globe lights and heating lamps. Inside dimmed lights, candles, and a fireplace make this one of the most romantic restaurants in the city. They have a wonderful drink menu that changes with the season and their wine list ranges from novice to connoisseur. The prices are a bit on the pricey side but the menu and quality makes it worth every penny. Even with the decor they will not chase you away if you come in on a motorcycle with sleeveless shirts. In fact our hostess walked outside to show us where to park our bike since the restaurant is located on a hill and the cross street was filled. The only reason I give it 4 stars is because of the parking. With the adjoining bars and parking from residents if you go during a concert then you might be parking quite a few blocks away and that hill isn't meant for heels. After a fairly dismal experience this evening with another establishment we were delighted in ending up in this quaint little bistro type venue..from the greeting by our server Ginger and her friendly attitude the time spent there just got better! My favorite craft beer was available..the Boardwalk fresh cut fries with sea salt and malt vinegar were to die for..the Black Tiger Shrimp Pasta Carbonara. Every single time, this restaurant does not disappoint!! I usually meet friends here for lunch when I'm in town. We tried dinner this time and OMG it was tremendous!! We had a party of 5 and three of my group ordered the Chilean sea bass with gnocchi, one ordered steak, and I ordered an ahi tuna salad (you could tell who was from California!). My ahi was soooo good and cooked exactly to my order! It was lightly seared and so very tender. I had the shallot dressing and that was superior! I took a bite of the sea bass off of my friends plate and it was out of this world! Like a warm knife though butter, my fork slid through that piece of fish! Tremendous!! Forgot to add that I started with the Maryland crab soup which was awesome!! Hot and very tasty with lots of crab. We sat outside on the patio and had the best time eating and catching up. Our waitress, Ginger, was attentive and friendly! The hostess on duty last night was very friendly as well and a real sweetheart! She gave us our choices of where to dine since it wasn't packed. Service is a little touch and go, with longer wait times for drink refills and check ins. However, staff is friendly. Overall, I'd recommend it. We got the calmari which was excellent (its the same as headkeepers because its the same owners I believe). That thai chili sauce cannot be beat. My medical school diet is not particularly exciting. It involves a lot of eggs, a lot of mini Reeses peanut butter cups, and the occassional splurge of Chipotle. However, when my husband got a chance to visit he took me to dinner at J. Corks, and that was definitely exciting. We made a reservation for a Saturday night. When we arrived, there was a big (read: loud) party in the main room), so the hostess suggested we might be happier in the lounge. The chairs looked comfier in there, anyway, so that wasn't a problem. Our server was welcoming and very friendly, and did a great job of appearing when we needed something and disappearing otherwise. The wine list isn't huge, but what they have is quite good-- we had a great bottle of Chardonnay. We were very happy food-wise as well. We had: --spinach dip: not the most elegant dish to order, but very good! Great flavor, not too oily. Served with a great pretzel made in-house. --filet mignon: my husband had the filet, which came with grilled asparagus and gorgonzola mac n' cheese. All of it was great, and the filet was grilled perfectly to medium. Even the leftovers were good. --special lobster tail: after perusing the menu, I was going to get risotto and be perfectly happy. But then the waitress came and described the special, which was pretty much all of my favorite things in one dish. Lobster tails with gorgonzola gnocchi, haricots verts and a sweet corn sauce? I can't describe how delicious this was-- I cleaned the plate. The chef actually brought both of our entrees out to us; the waitress said it was because he was especially proud of them, and he should be. All things considered, this wasn't outlandishly expensive, either-- two gigantic (biggest I've ever been served) lobster tails with fancy side dishes for $35 is a steal, really. And with good ambiance and wine to boot, I'll definitely be back next time I get the chance to splurge on a fancy night out. read more

My boyfriend and I came here for an early Valentine's dinner and couldn't have picked a better place! Immediately after setting foot in the restaurant, we were greeted by an extremely friendly staff and great service that continued with our waitress, Ginger, who was attentive, friendly, and presented our meals at a great pace (too often I find that dinners feel rushed, or even the opposite. Our appetizer came out very promptly, we were able to eat leisurely before our meals came out, where usually meals are brought 2 seconds after your appetizer arrives. Yet there were no lulls in service - thank you!) The food was delicious! My boyfriend's filet mignon and gorgonzola macaroni was flavorful and tender and my scallops with jalapeño maple risotto was amazing! The appetizers were very good but the main courses were lackluster. My husbands steak was under cooked and my pasta sauce was way too sweet. If you live in or around Greensburg, you are likely well aware that 1) there aren't many good restaurants there, and 2) many people living there think Olive Garden on a Friday night is FAAAAAANCY. Fortunately, a few great little places are scattered throughout town, including J. Corks, a lovely little restaurant housed in a cute brick building in downtown Greensburg (it's also the sister restaurant of The Headkeeper, another great restaurant in this town). They have good food, friendly servers, and a nice setting, all of which make for a pleasant dining experience. They have, to me, the perfect menu in terms of offerings: not too few, and not too many. The dishes aren't pretentious, but they certainly aren't your usual American fare. Among their starters, the "Headkeeper Calamari" and "Blackened Ahi Tuna" are some of my favorites, and their salads (especially the "Pear & Goat Cheese" salad) are fantastic. Their current dinner offerings include a variety of fish and meat dishes, along pasta dishes and a small selection of pizzas. I recently had the ahi tuna, which was served with a delicious shitake mushroom-and-carrot slaw and mashed potatoes, but I've also had the "Black Tiger Shrimp Carbonara" (creamy and rich) and I've had a chance to sample other dishes when dining with friends and family (including the filet and salmon). They've got a decent selection of desserts as well--nothing too fancy, but a few tasty things to choose from. They offer seasonal drinks as well as a few staple mixed drinks, beer, and a great selection of wines. Be wary--they are a bit heavy-handed with the liquor in their mixed drinks (but, you know, that's not necessarily a bad thing...). I particularly love their Moscow Mule and they've done a mulled wine in the wintertime before that was just fabulous. Parking is pretty good--there's a garage right behind the restaurant that offers free parking in the evenings and on weekends, and street parking is also available. The restaurant has indoor and outdoor dining, including a bar/lounge that offers a more casual atmosphere. It can get busy on the weekends, so I recommend making a reservation--I went this past Friday at 6:00 and was able to get a table for 2, but was told (very very politely, which was nice) that we'd need to finish up by 7:30 because of a reservation for that table at that time. Though we were finished and quite content shortly before 7:30, they were still incredibly apologetic when we left (even though we were perfectly fine doing so), and that was nice to see. I'm just happy they squeezed us in at 6:00. The lounge area is a little easier to get seated in, so you can always try for that. J. Cork's is a great little place in a town that's oh-so-lacking of decent restaurants, and it's nice to be able to get this kind of dining experience without having to travel into Pittsburgh. If you're that person who does the "TGI Friday's-Friday, Red Lobster-Saturday, and Olive Garden-Sunday" routine, break the cycle and dine at J. Cork's. It's great for a girls' night out, date nights, or even a nice family dinner, and a lot of business-people come in for drinks too. read more

Went for lunch following an event and I have to say it was great! We got there before they opened at noon and they were gracious enough to let us sit in the shade at a table outside. Our group had the bison burger, club sandwich, a couple salads and desert (chocolate cake and creme brûlée)...there were ZERO complaints! We came here as out-of-towners for a light lunch. The staff was very welcoming and informative with the menu. I can easily say the food here was the best that I've had in a very long time! While everything was relatively light, I was comfortably full and completely satisfied with the flavors in everything I tried! The lavender and limoncello martini was absolutely refreshing and aromatic! We split a cup of the soup of the day. While the name escapes me, it was a creamy soup which included gorgonzola and pancetta. I would come back for this soup alone. We also split two other dishes so we could keep trying things. The poached pear salad with the goat cheese fritter was honestly the best salad I have ever eaten! The salmon BLT didn't disappoint either. The atmosphere was cute, especially with the old Elks Lodge bar top as part of the decor! I can't wait to go back on a nicer day to eat on their patio. While this is my first review, I can truly say I was inspired to start a yelp account because of the lunch I had at J Corks. I will likely travel the hour's drive there to come back! read more
