Finally a Chinese restaurant that will give me spicy Kung Pao chicken. My hubby and I visited with our 3 year old. They have a booster and high chair, but we didn't need them. There are no real descriptions in the menu, which I would have liked, so that I could order less "Americanized" food. My spouse says the crab rangoons were excellent. My egg roll was nothing exciting bit well done. They were very busy, but we still got our dinner done in 40 minutes start to finish. I will be back! read more

Best Eggroll I have had in the past five years! It was crisp, not greasy, and had little bits of shrimp and I think pork in it too. Really fine. Rest of the food was great, considering the location. We did take out, as did most everybody else. Finally tried the ever-popular general Tso's chicken! I actually liked it. Yes, it was deep-fried but I ordered it with extra vegetables and so the chunks of fried chicken were like little treat buckets, with a generous amount of vegetables. It was a good compromise. Kungpao chicken was very good, but the amount of meat was a little skimpy. They are slightly understaffed, but reasonably friendly. Will definitely be going back. Highly recommend it. read more

Tried the food, not the dim sum here. I always trek it to Chi town for dim sum. First time trying it so we went with safe bets. House fried rice, bbq pork lo mien, wonton soup, shrimp with mixed veggies, and fried donuts. Fried rice was flavorful, lo mien had a good texture but I wished the noodles were thicker. Shrimp with mixed veggies was prepared very well, shrimp was not overcooked nor were the veggies. The sauce wasn't too thick like most Chinese places. The wonton soup was really good. Most places in MKE seem to think that wonton soup is sheets of noodles with some meat mixed it. JJ's had actually dumplings! I think they were pork and shrimp. They had good texture and the soup also had bbq pork and napa cabbage for some flavor and crunch. This may be my new chinese delivery place. read more

I was excited to find this place on Yelp as I recently traveled to Hong Kong and fell in love with dim sum. The pork dumplings lived up to expectations but everything went down from there. Crispy shrimp rolls tasted fine, if a little boring without any types of sauce. However I could clearly see some uncleaned shrimp within which immediately put me off (for those that don't know, the "vein" down the back is actually the lower intestine and is full of excrement). The stemmed pork buns were all bun, little filling, and the chicken feet were underdone and tossed in a sweet sauce which ruined any crispiness that may or may not have once been there. And finally, my big reason for the one-star rating. The dumpling soup smelled off to me but in my infinite wisdom, I ate the dumplings out of it anyway, figuring the smell was just some spice or herb I was unfamiliar with. Alas, a couple hours later, my severe gastrointestinal distress let me know that my choice had been a bad one. I am sure the soup was the culprit as my boyfriend ate the same things that day, except for that soup, and he was fine. Needless to say, I will not be back. read more

In a small store front in an equally small shopping strip of the rather large intersection of 108th St and Oklahoma Ave of West Allis is where you'll find the quaint and often rather busy J.J. Chen's Eatery. Walking in one discovers about six tables filled with young and old eating the traditional dishes of Mainland China. Mandarin is found to be the language of choice here, though English is spoken with equal politeness (but then only when necessary). It is by no means fancy but it is somewhat homey. The food is generally good and has what some might consider an earthy texture, taste, and feel to it. The water is surprising fresh and clean, as if one was drinking from a high mountain stream as yet untouched by man. Great place for a meal with friends and family. read more

The positive reviews are all correct, we had a nice time of Dim Sum. no complaints about the service or the food we will be back. Was it traditional Dim Sum service, no; was it lactually ike in mainland China, Hong Kong or Chinatown in many global locations no; that said it was good Dim Sum. Typical strip mall Ma & Pa place. It's a little out of the way from where I live but I get there often. . Plenty of parking in front of the restaurant. Yesterday I tried their Stir Fried String Beans - Szechuan style. It's great, but seems a little overpriced. My only negative is that they would don't offer brown rice. read more

We started getting delivery from them a year ago. It was pretty good. But then, we noticed over the last 6 months, the quality has declined considerably. Good Chinese is about the sauces and JJ's has sunk to the level of Panda Express. We will go back to Fortune on Hwy 100 even though they don't deliver. read more

My wife and I usually go here once every two weeks and usually by day 13 we start looking forward to it. The food is delicious and we have not gone wrong yet with any of the dishes. The food was mediocre at best. I ordered steamed dumplings and they were not homemade. I could tell the dough was a wonton wrapper. Asked her if they were frozen and she said yes and they don't make their dumplings or egg rolls anymore. I ate 2 of them and left the rest. Chicken with black bean sauce was just okay . I need to do a small update. This review is intended to offset the previous one. I am starting to think that there is an unusual amount of MSG in this food. I am unusually exhausted after eating here and that is coupled with other standard MSG type symptoms. I haven't been able to replicate this level of fatigue in any other way. The more I thought about it the more this was likely the culprit. I do know there are people out there that avoid MSG like the plague. You may want to consider this. We moved and recently ordered delivery to our new place. We live right next to a Chinese restaurant but chose to order JJ Chen's as it has been good in the past. After this experience, I would never recommend them. Our order took 2 HOURS and 2 phone calls to the store, before it was delivered. Not only was our food cold, it was overall not edible. When we called, the lady offered no apology and no compensation. I paid $40 for food that ended up in the garbage. As I mentioned, we've ordered from them before but never at our new address. They had no idea we were repeat customers! Had this been our first experience, I'd be even more angry. Completely disappointed in JJ Chen's and the quality of service and food they exhibited. I ordered crab rangoon (6), chicken lo mein (small), and the beef with vegetable combo for dinner with an egg roll and chicken fried rice. it was all very good! Woman waiting on us was unpleasant-- "No soup!" "No iced tea!" However, the portions were ample for the price. Although a small store-front place in a strip-mall, the interior is bright and clean. The menu is extensive and may be authentic. Two of us had shrimp with vegetables and rice with an egg roll ($8.95) and one had chicken fried rice ($7.95). I would rate the presentations as bare-bones-basic, and the quality of the food as adequate. However, we should try some different choices in the future to see if the quality on other items improves. Very tasty unique and freshly prepared Chinese food. I had a friend tell me I had to go and try the Peking pork chop entree which is a very tasty chopped bone in pork chop with pineapple and onions. It was very good as was the shrimp and pork egg rolls. We were there on a Saturday afternoon and were the only non Asians in the place. It's not a place you go for ambience it's good and reasonably priced Chinese with an extensive menu. The service was too quick. It was our first time there and our waitress at first didn't want to take our appetizer order until we ordered our food. I am from the Pacific Northwest, lived in Hawaii and I am currently living in the Bay Area. I've had my share of Dim Sum from Asian populated areas. That being said, our Dim Sum experience here was pretty good. I was visiting my boyfriend at Great Lakes and he and I were RAVENOUS for Dim Sum. We don't have great experiences with the rolling cart type Dim Sum so I was happy to order off the menu here. We got like 5 orders of Har Gao, because that's our fav and sampled most of the Dim Sum menu. I'm pleased. I love dumplings. Their hot sauce was on point. read more

We ordered take-out and it was ok. Nothing amazing as the previous reviews insisted. Food: Crab Rangoons - As good as fried gets. Peppery Salt Chicken Wings - Average. Nothing amazing about them. Kind of soggy by the time we received them, so maybe that made a difference. Hot and Sour Soup - Again, just ok. I added some ingredients to improve the taste. Szechuan Style Spicy Beef - Def wasn't a fan. It was like a Beef Stew with overwhelming spice and no other flavor. Just wasn't for us. General Tso's Chicken- This was ok. This Place isn't much to look at but do go there for the food. I have been there twice now within the week and ordered the same dish and it is consistently good both times. They have select dim sum dishes, though the option is limited, the flavor is authentic enough for me to come back. I have had fantastic dim sum in Hong Kong, SF and Chicago, while this can't compare to those cities, it is as close as you will get to the authentic dim sum. Their beef and the peppers fish also was cooked with a lot of flavors. Do your self a favor and check this place out for yourself. Their General Tso's chicken is probably the best I have ever had! I order it mild and it comes with the perfect amount of sauce, good chunks of chicken, and a light breading! Just returned from J.J. Chen's tonight and had a great experience. The place is small, but clean. The menu is a little weird, since it has several different Chinese cuisine mixed together (including American Chinese), but we like what we got. We ordered Ma Po Tofu and Peppery Salt Fish Fillet from the Chef Special section, both fresh & tasty. I have tried many places in the metro Milwaukee area, and most of them disappoint me as they are not authentic. I am also sensitive to MSG, and so far I have not felt it, so that is a good sign. I am really glad to have found this place - we are going to return to try other dishes for sure! read more

It's always been good but today was inedible. The crab Rangoon had something brown in it, not pink, and the beef was so chewy I couldn't eat it. I never call to complain but I did today, and the staff and owner argued with me. He delivered a egg roll, didn't knock on my door and let himself in and yelled at me.
