I want to thank J. Jill for their efforts to be size inclusive. Both in stores and online they carry a latge collection of petite and tall clothing items (at the same price as their regular collections!) and offer their clothing items for individuals with larger bodies as well (I believe they go to 3X but don't quote me on this) I want to commend J. jill sales associate Sam L. For her warm and professional assistance at my visit to the UWS store last week. I was shopping alone and conflicted between two sizes of the same sweater. Both fit but without a friend's eye I was having a hard time choosing between the two sizes. Sam offered her expert opinion in a genuine and kind way, without pushing the sale on me at all. I have only been to this store a few times as I normally shop online. J.Jill has never been a store for the young woman, but for a more tailored look with a hip vibe. I have shopped with them for 20 years and love that more often than not they have mostly natural fibers. I guess you just have to know what your style is and sometimes that changes along with the store you shop at. read more

I took it upon myself to take some pictures in one of their stores of exactly who their customers are . I sent the pictures to their new designer, Elliot. I called four or five times. No one ever got back to me. They have no interest in customers input. They are going downhill at a rapid pace. They are going the way of Chicos. The fabrics are a very poor quality. The patterns or for "old ladies". The styles offfor anyone except the customers that they have. They keep being asked to bring back the ORIGINAL kimono sweater. For some reason on the rare occasion that they did bring it back they made a change to it that apparently no one liked. I even offered, at my own expense, to send them one of mine if they didn't still have the original pattern. No response. I will be very sorry to see them go but go I am sure they will. For some reason, I cannot review the store on third Avenue and E. 67th St. Basically, the company deteriorating rapidly! The fabrics are very cheap. The patterns are very middle America. And the designs are not for their customer, but for the customer they would like to have. I went into the third Avenue store and bought a pair of pants. I brought the pants with me that I wanted to duplicate. The manager thought she would have to order them for me, but found she had a pair in the stockroom. I got home. They were an entirely different pair. I showed her exactly what I wanted. Now I have to go back to return them. They would not offer me any customer service. They would not send a label so I could return them. They would not send a messenger to take them back. I even called the corporate office. The mistake was not mine. It was the store manager's mistake. lt doesn't matter let's not do anything for a customer. I am so tired of hearing. "I'm so sorry." "I understand." and the rest of the nonsense that they spew out from a written script all the while not giving any service. I can only say it is terrible. I had a nice experience here I came in for a wrap around, Irs a more mature look than I normally shop for in clothes I tend to shop in stores that are a little more trendy but there was a 50% off sale going on, the store was nice, with a really nice girl working behind the counter. The wrap I found was a little too long for me and the sizes ran a bit big for my liking. read more

I was on my way to a competing retailer when I decided to stop in. Salesman/Designer Brian stepped right to me with a peppy personality, offering to assist. I was initially taken aback because I thought I'd browse casually and leave to go to the other store. But Brian drew me in with not only suggestions, but amazing style combos. I spent far more than intended, but got some looks I'd never otherwise put together for myself. I also didn't feel like I was shopping alone. The staff constantly asked how I liked the clothes. Brian even helped me tell what was working and honestly, what wasn't. He picked a lot of things I rejected until I tried them on and loved them. I typically shop at Macy's on weekends when the doors open for quiet and privacy. But I am by no means a designer, and end up buying the same-ole stuff or things that end up on the hanger, rarely worn. With Brian's picks and guidance at J Jill, I am positive that I'll wear the outfits and return for more. It was a much better shopping experience -- although I suspect that part of the frequent checking in is the company's friendly approach to avoid shoplifting. I assume. I don't know. This is done at another retailer nearby, but at Macy's it's very private. That said, I understand and just took it for the positive aspect -- help selecting and feedback. I will certainly be back. So it was one of those days where you forget where you are or are flying to and end up in the very much wrong clothes in what could be an embarrassing and or freezing moment in time. That was me in shorts in Manhattan when after searching high and low for my size, I was about to give up. I saw J Jill and decided to give them a try. Immediately upon entering, I was approached by a woman whose unique name I can't remember how to spell: Thea? She seemed like the type of Mom we all wish would tuck us in at night even if we are 50! Anyhow, she and her colleague moved quickly to find an assortment of choices for me after listening carefully to what I wished and voila, I walked out with just what I needed. This store offers beautifully made clothes in very flattering styles for women. They have Petites, Talls and regular and are made to fit women's curves and bodies comfortably with excellent craftsmanship and details. This location has the most polite, helpful and trained staff happy to fit you and find exactly what you are looking for. Love this J.Jill--staff is really nice, many clothes made to fit middle aged women's body so they tend to have extra room in the middle. The sales are great. I only wish they carried more of what's in the catalog. That would require perhaps a larger store. Anyway, you can order all the sizes/styles you want online and then take them back to the store if they don't fit. I'm so glad this store opened. read more

I find the clothes and the whole set up very reminiscent of Eileen Fisher stores only at a lower price point. Nice customer service and the staff go out of their way to help you. the staff are polite and helpful without being clingy and the store feels civilized, unlike most of the stores these days. the clothes are nice and prices are comparable to Talbots. Wait for the sales and you get a better deal, of course. read more

Overall, this company seems to have remnants of that dying breed - decent customer service! You can post questions via website that their staff responds to in a timely manner, or use online chat, etc., and they will listen and respond appropriately (like a human who has heard of the golden rule). I have found some discrepancies with info/prices online vs in-store but they are very accommodating once you point it out (vs "I don't know anything about that" or "I'm not in charge", etc). I've only been in the store occasionally - sometimes you have to be patient - they aren't down your neck, but with a little patience I found staff to overall be helpful but not pushy. And willing to say, "No, I don't love that." Seems to nearly always be a line at the counter - Maybe it's just a busy (and it's new) location and they are hitting all their numbers easily, but I LOVE a store that isn't pushy with sales and will give me a fair assessment. Especially when I seem to need some time and to kiss a lot of clothing frogs to find a sartorial prince or even a distant cousin of a prince. If I feel rushed or pushed, I'm out. It's not a "go-to" place for me - it's hard to find things in this store that fit me and my shape - most look squatty or frumpy on me, but with a promo like they seem to often have and some decent service, I'm willing to take the occasional look because sometimes it pays off. And we need stores in this area that aren't $200 for a t-shirt! read more
