Wait, this place serves as a restaurant too? I missed the memo, and came in on a Friday night to celebrate a friends 30th. Walking up to it, it felt a little shady, but I'm so glad I left my snobbishness at the door, cause inside is such a down to earth eclectic vibe and people. There was a reggae band playing adding to great background music, but there's also a jukebox on the other side of the bar where our group congregated by the tables and enjoyed ourselves. The bartender was a nice guy who created a tic-tac shot for all of us and said thank you when I tipped him. My goodness what manners! I was impressed. Went here because they were in the entertainment book and let me tell you....we thought we were inthe wrong place for a Steak & Seafood restaurant...... First of all the outside of the building looks like a run down biker bar with bikes parked out front. Secondly, the music blaring out of the front door led us to believe it was a bar...We werent even sure we were going to go but then a couple was behind us so we did Once we went inside a waitress who looks liked she was on meth with a nicotene patch on her arm seated us on the side of the bar where there were about 6 tables for dining purposes We both ordered the seafood brochette which consisted of a piece of halibut, a piece of salmon, a scallop, and a shrimp and that was $22.95....Let's just it wasnt worth it in the end and won't be going back read more

This isn't your typical fancy restaurant. It's more of a dive bar with a fishtank partition that serves up awesome food and great drinks. The service is great, but if you are expecting fine dining, please pass. I went with a restaurant.com coupon, and it was so good that I went back again. Their king crab is sublime, and if you are lucky enough for pops to be cooking up fresh artichokes, grab them cause they are great. Taco Tuesday $1 tacos. Group of 5 and the service was horrible even though there weren't many patrons. The waitress made sure to let us know we couldn't have separate checks even though there were only 5 of us. Was there a couple hours and never did get a water refill. Also shocked that they didn't have any fish tacos being a seafood restaurant called Neptune's! Service sucked, jukebox music only so really awkwardly quiet after we were tired of putting money in. I didn't get the chance to hang out here very long, but I liked what I saw. I'm a big fan of dive bars, and this is the kind of place I'd love to chill at for a while on a random weekend night. It's pretty small when I think about it, but it's kind of cool cause the walls and bar section off the place into different little... stations, shall we say? There was the dark area with booths that I assume are for eatin' during the day. There's an area for dart boards, etc. (behind the WALL FULL OF GUNS). There's the stage area with a good amount of tall bar tables and stools. Overall, a lot to pack into this little bar, and I'm quite impressed. I'd say the crowd was more in their 30s or 40s. I got the impression that the people were pretty nice, as I received a compliment from a woman who said I reminded her of her cousin as soon as I walked in. I remember the bar being well-lit, and for some reason I want to say that the feeling I get when walking in is like I'm hanging out in someone's kitchen or something. I don't know why. They also had a really good band playing original songs on their little stage -- I hope all their musical entertainment is as good. I've only visited this place once. I came here on a early Saturday afternoon so it was pretty empty. The service was good. As for the scene, it seemed more like a sports /dive bar. The burgers here are pretty large, and came out within a reasonable amount of time so we didn't wait lomg. The only thing I can say was sort of disappointed was the fried scallops that I've ordered. There wasn't very much of it. It seemed like 3/4s of my plate was fries amd 1/4 or maybe less was scallops. The scallops were good, I just wish the portion was more even. The food here is surprisingly good. From outside looks like a sports bar, but the chef is amazing and the food is very well priced. You get an entire meal here for what you pay for just an entree at other places nearby. When you enter take a hard left and go sit in the dining room area. It is completely separate from the bar. GREAT dive bar and a good place to get dinner, too. I love the Sunset Beach area of unincorporated Orange County. This area reminds me of the way it used to be up and down the California coast back in the old days before everything was gentrified and picked apart by the wealthy class. King Neptune's is located at the south end of the strip, and should be your first stop for both happy hour and appetizers (free, appetizers, mind you) as well as where you should settle in for a reasonably priced steak and seafood meal. The bar is kinda "U-shaped", which I like, and there are TV monitors aplenty for you to watch your favorite game on. Bands play later in the day, if that's your thing. This is one of those classic dive bars straight out of the 1960s-1970s. It doesn't look like much from the outside (or inside), but the staff and the patrons are all cool beach-dwellers that have obviously been in Sunset Beach for decades. But if you're a newbie, don't worry, you'll feel welcome here too. The shocker (or rocker) is the food; it's amazing. Clam chower, ahi tuna, salads, burgers, steaks -- everything is top notch. My party of 6 arrived as the kitchen opened on a Tuesday night. First off, this is the epitome of dive bars, lol. Fairly clean, nothing, I mean nothing fancy. We all had 'level 5 Mai Tai's'. They were fabulous! Highly recommend them! As for the food, we all ordered something different. It was our 1st time here and we wanted to explore the menu. The crab legs, $44.00 each, were average. Big, yes, firm, yes, just not that super fresh taste to them. Not bad, just not off the charts good. I have not been to King Neptune's in at least a year, but I have to represent for days gone by and many many nights spent at this place. This was where I would meet all of my friends that lived in Long Beach and Huntington, when we just wanted to catch some drinks. First of all, the stuff behind the plexiglass is a museum of sorts. The sights are a nice diversion. I hearken back to the days when the when the giant stuffed beaver sat on the front of the bar and at least half of the people that dared to eat here had That Potato, which was a big baked potato with cubed prime rib and cheese in it. Alas, I think it is long gone from the menu. When my friends are back in town, we still try to meet here. My boy Pete loves this place because he always ends up chatting up some girl that is friendly or drunk enough to start making out with her friend (also female) while they are talking. I was at King Neptune's to see a band, so I can't comment on the drinks or food. The stage is decent sized and raised a bit...the basics, but something you don't see as often as you should. Lighting was one-color, but enough to see the band, so that's a plus that you can't always count on. The sound system is, again, decent, and the shape of the small side area the band plays in helps. The set-up of the chairs, table and dance floor is awkward. If you want to stand rather than sit (we're talking rock 'n' roll music), then you have to stand right in front of people at tables, which isn't great for anyone. Overall, a pretty good venue for original music. read more
