My wife and I have been coming here for a couple of years. The food is fantastic! The clam chowder is BY FAR the best I've ever had. Everything my wife and I have had here is absolutely delicious. The drinks are great and we love the dive bar ambiance. It's is family owed and only family works here. They all take great pride in the business and their father is the chef. They are all very friendly and personable. He's been around the Sunset Beach restaurant business for a long time and his recipes are the best. The George Fryer Band has been playing Sunday's here for like 25 years +! We highly recommend you stop in for a cocktail and dinner. Their fresh fish is to die for! read more

I can't believe this place is just up the street from me... probably have never been before cause I'm not really a bar person- but since covid I noticed they had a cute little patio. Ah, the beauty of the Sunday funday. I much prefer these kind of Sundays to the Sundays of my youth, grumbling out of bed to go to get my religion on early in the morning. I've since converted to the idea of keeping the seventh day full of rest, fun, and...a mimosa or two. Neptune's has a pretty nifty setup. Much better than I expected, and the crowd was much more welcoming than I expected. Plus, they've got pinball! You can never go wrong with pinball in my book. But, if you hate fun and life and pinball for some reason, they've also got darts, shuffleboard and a jukebox for ya too. As for drinks, I stuck with a classic (and quite speecy spicy too) blood mary...but the radtacular bartender Juan, served us up a couple of special concoctions he had up his sleeve too. ...like a freakin' delicious Orange Julius shot and his own special Super Charger bomb drink. Who gets drunk at 11:30am on a Sunday? I DO! :oD And I recently found one of the coolest dive bars to do it - King Neptune's in Sunset Beach. Not only do they employ the Bartender of the Year (2009), the place is already filled with people just like me early in the morning. Their bloody marys are bold and spicy, while the orange julius cocktail (or shot) is cool, creamy, and not too sweet. The prices for such drinks are average at about $6-7. The place looks bigger from the inside with a dining area to the left and game room to the right. The game room has a digital juke box, a couple dart boards, a Sopranos pinball machine, and another unknown game table. They have quirky decorations all over the place, from a cool display of handguns in plexiglas to the ladies' room walls embellished with doilies and buttons all over. The place looks like they serve locals and an older clientele but everyone seemed friendly and didn't have a problem striking up a conversation or two. Hubby and I had an appointment in the area and thought we'd make a trip of it and find some place to eat. Voila - we found King Neptune! Man, this place was a dive, for sure...but we felt right at home when the kind bartender greeted us quite nicely and didn't make us feel out of place at all. All the TV's with the sports news + beer hit the spot that Saturday early afternoon. We also ordered fried artichoke hearts, CRAB potato skins, 1 ginormous crab leg and a patty melt. Fried artichokes were great - I was afraid it would be mostly batter/breading but it was actually mostly heart! The crab potato skins were delicious - topped with just enough (not a lot) Alaskan king crab meat. I got a cup of clam chowder from my crab leg (singular, yes lol) and had to say, it tasted surprisingly pleasant. It was thick but not overwhelming. It was flavorful but not oversalted like many other versions. Then the crab leg hit the table and all hell broke loose. Seriously, the biggest crustacean limb I have ever seen. Maybe I've been sheltered all my life or possibly it's because most of the Alaskan king crab I've had has been in some Vegas buffet or another (bad quality)...but daaaang, girl. This was impressive. I was afraid it wouldn't be enough food for me but trust me...at the end of the leg, I was stuffed and good to go. Hubby said his patty melt was a little dry but I told him that's what ketchup was for - he didn't use any. We had a few beers...I felt a little ghetto when I ordered a red beer but the bartender merely asked "Tomato juice or Bloody Mary mix?" Stage way too small and the Dance Floor even smaller. The drinks are mostly cheap, watch out for fancy drinks... and the food is Fair to Midland. The service is pretty good, those guys work hard. But with music like they've been having lately they aren't a dive bar anymore. Get there early if you want a place to sit it's small and gets crowded quickly. J King Neptunes is a Family owned restaurant owned and ran by Jose Alvarez thus is where the "J" comes into play in J King Neptunes. First and foremost the live music on the weekends is a plus. The atmosphere here is lively and up beat. A stage for the band sits in the corner in front of a small dance floor for those feeling the urge to boogie woogie. The menu has a little bit of everything from swordfish to bleu cheese burgers. Their clam chowder makes a delightful warm appetizer or a hearty meal. Now let's get to the good part. Their drink menu. The 2 main bartenders Nick and Juan both have years in the business and they both have signature drinks that you must try. Juan, the owners Son is an avid competitor in bartending contests all over the world. If you don't know what to drink just leave it to these two mixologists to concoct you a drink that will have you wondering where they learned how to pour complete heaven in a glass. Hidden gem. We've been driving past this place for years and never knew the secrets hidden behind the underwhelming exterior. It wasn't until it popped up on my Yelp feed that I took notice. When I read the reviews and checked out the menu, I was pleasantly surprised! So we decided to check it out last night and glad we did. Immediately upon entry, you're standing in the bar area. The World Series was on and there are many TVs to choose from. We opted for a quieter dining experience and sat in the small but quaint dining area. Immediately, Chico came over to take our drink order and give us menus. I was happy to hear they carried one of my favorite Cabernets. The menu here is impressive regarding steak and seafood options. What a dive bar! I came in for open mic night to watch a friend and this little local bar has a nice old run down stage. I could not believe the talent that showed up, seriously good music. Not sure if every open mic night is this good but Alec Bauer, Ethan and 2 dudes on guitars really brought some talent. I didn't try the food but was surprised how good it smelled and looked so will try it next time. Bartender and crowd friendly, tap beer selection was a little thin. King Neptune's has the appearance of a dive bar, inside and out, we most likely would not have eaten here but we were invited by a couple that we were chatting with at breakfast so we joined them for dinner and totally enjoyed it. We were advised that the best crab legs in the area were at king Neptune's , we ordered 3 legs and some sides, the legs were amazing, so tasty, perfectly cooked. This is a tasty restaurant disguised as a local beach community dive bar. Perfect bar to head to after (or during) a beach day. Bar and waitstaff are friendly. Good beer selection. The food is REALLY good and very reasonably priced. I've been here a few times and highly recommend any seafood item, the chowder, and burgers. The hamburger may be one of the best you'll ever have. I love saying it's always my favorite place to go on a Thursday night. Music is good, the bartender's awesome, and the beer is cold. It's always a safe place to go alone even as a woman. As a Sunset Beach resident, we have plenty of choices for food and cocktails, and I enjoy all of the local businesses. Pre-covid we could often be found enjoying football on the weekends and live music. Neptune's has the look of a dive bar, the feel of an entertainment venue, and the food of a 5 star restaurant. Crab legs are as good as you can find. Anywhere! My personal fave is the bleu cheese burger.... outstanding. My wife is more of a fish person and the swordfish is her favorite. The drinks here are 4/5 stars. Very strong and also tasteful cocktails. However food is a solid 0/5. I had the 45$ crab leg. Although very big, upon picking it up burned my hands minutes later I had a bite that was hot on one end and FROZEN on the other. The potato was about the size of a baseball. Lastly the vegetables were stiff and tasteless. My mates ended up with food poisening. I believe they ate the scampi pasta and salmon. read more

Started off with king crab legs dinner. You could order one two or three at market price. When they told us the price we were sticker shocked. But ordered two for our dinner, grilled shrimp for appetizer. The shrimp was grilled perfect and very large. The dipping sauce they provide was phenomenal with lots of flavor. Did not taste like that cheap sauce you get at red lobster. The king crab legs were huge like oh my God huge. Over a foot-long and lots of meat. Nice dive bar atmosphere but they have a secluded dining area if you don't want to sit near the bar. Very cozy place drove this area for many years and happen to catch the sign so pulled a U-turn and came back for dinner. It may look like a rundown hole in the wall shack, but the food is definitely five star. read more

I have always loved King Neptune's! It's changed over the decades, adding a bar and live music; the place was hoppin' when we were there Saturday evening. Nice to see they still have the scrimshaw collection on display (sort of) RIP Beautiful button-wallpapered-Women's-Restroom, the but the new one was clean and well stocked! We chose to eat on the Patio. The chairs left something to be desire for us larger folks but we're delighted to report they survived our tenancy!!! Chico was our server and super on top of things. We ordered several appetizers, the sautéed mushrooms, crab-stuffed mushrooms, jumbo shrimp cocktail, and the calamari. All items were excellent but to be honest we felt the calamari needed some seasoning, at least salt. We also ordered the steamed mussels. They were sweet and fresh but sadly also lacking any sort of flavor or seasoning. On to our dinner choices, 2 orders of swordfish - EXCELLENT. I got the King Crab Leg (one pound/one BIG leg) and could not finish it! So sweet, amazing quality. Great baked potatoes, fresh steamed veggies, it was a wonderful feast. I saw Juan when I went in to use the lady's room. He had been so helpful when I was making our reservation. I thanked him for his help, this is a great place!! read more

We come here for the live music and dancing on Sunday nights -- which are fantastic -- but the food has been good every time I've sat down for a meal. We love King Neptunes! Everyone here is great - the service is amazing with really friendly people who are all family. Lupe, Juan and Lance could not be nicer or better at their job. We've been coming here for years and alway enjoy the food and atmosphere. I recently was told by a "regular" to try the shrimp scampi- it was fantastic!! I've already had it couple times again. Dad is in the kitchen cooking up the same dishes for decades and is really great!
