My girlfriend had an appointment on Wednesday May 1st at 6pm. She shows up 10 minutes before and no one was there!!! The shop was completely closed, lights off and doors locked!! She has a confirmation text and everything for her 6pm appontment for todays date. The website even says they close at 7pm, front door says they close at 8pm but yet no one was there at 5:50pm?!?!? She calls and the owner picks up and claims they don't have her in the books even though she has a confirmation text for the date and time she showed up for! The owner then got in contact with the stylist who booked my girlfriend's appointment and the stylist claimed she forgot to put her in the my system. The stylist then claims her car broke down so she got an Uber but the Uber also broke down so she is on the side of the road waiting for another uber.....(probably a lie)...so the stylist then claimed she is on her way but due to her "transportation issue" it will take her 30min. Owner even confirmed they would keep the store open longer once stylist arrived due to the inconvenience. 2 hours later and no one shows up, no one calls my girlfriend to say they are no longer coming and they won't answer anymore calls from her and she called about 10 more times throught out the 2 hours she was waiting.... Completely ridiculous! This was an appointment to get her hair done for her graduation which was the day after!!!!! Completely ruined her big day! This appointment was made in April...A WHOLE MONTH IN ADVANCE...Unacceptable, completely unprofessional, would not recommend to anyone. For any boyfriends or husband's out there send your girlfriend or wive somewhere else unless you want her waiting for 2 hours by herself..... read more

Akwen, the woman who did my cornrows exceeded my expectations and even knew exactly what I wanted to do with my ends that varied from the pic I showed her. I had a terrible day today and had gone to a salon to get my dark hair lightened to Jessica Rabbit red. I came out with darker hair than when I went inside. Needless to say, I was upset. Jessica over at J Lex listened to my plight with a sympathetic ear before telling me we were gonna fix it. She was completely transparent about price, what she was going to do and how long it would take. She kept her salon open for me and bleached, colored, washed, and blow dried my hair into the beautiful red I wanted. She went above and beyond and even offered me pizza when I was flagging because I had been out of my house since 12pm and hadn't eaten for hours and hours. She was friendly, chatted happily and was just so kind. My hair did not take to the bleach well in one spot and a huge chunk of it broke off, leaving a section of my mid-back length hair up to my chin. Jessica rolled with the punches and cut me some angled layers and bangs to fix what happened and I left feeling like I got the star treatment. 100% recommend the Hell out of this place. The only reason why I went through to this salon is because I'm a busy person, and this is the only close salon I knew when the lady told me a deep conditioning blow dry and braids was $170 in total I was pissed I don't know how getting a blow dry is a 45$ charge in itself most places do not charge extra for a blow dry without a wash. I've always traveled to Watertown arsenal mall and waited in a Horrible line ( there's always a line there!) for eyebrow threading for $10 not including tip. Get your hair cut here if you want to feel good and be happy AND look fantasitc. Easily one of the best haircuts I've ever gotten. I made an appointment at the last minute and everyone was super nice. No one made me feel rushed and the whole salon had a super positive vibe. There were men and women getting cuts, and everyone was really friendly. I hadn't had a real haircut in two years and my stylist, the owner, busted out a perfect layered cut that made my textured, tangled, faded hair suddenly look like a darn mermaid. And on top of it all she made me feel like an old friend. There's nothing worse than getting a cut while twiddling your thumbs because the conversation is awkward or forced- SO not the case here. The minute I walked into the Salon I didn't have a good feeling. I was there for a manicure and eyebrow waxing. The lady who did my manicure push the skin on my cuticles too hard and it bled, and she did a crappy job with my nails, part of my thumb is not painted, and my nail chipped the next day, I got GEL manicure, it supposed to last 2-3 weeks, chips the second day. I made an eyelash extension appointment for next week, but after the experience yesterday, I cancelled my appointment, no way I am going back there. read more

Each time I came in everyone was very friendly, and my end results were PERFECT. The vibe in here is far different from a typical spa/salon. More fun and upbeat than quiet and serene. Went on a weekday afternoon for a facial. Good stuff: The woman who took care of me (never got her name, sadly) was lovely. Friendly, very attentive and responsive to concerns. Nice long facial massage, which is always my favorite part. The place was clean and comfortable. My skin looks and feels great, and I'm nice and relaxed. Needs work: The noise from the salon was sometimes loud and distracting, even inside the treatment room with the chill music on. I had the best experience, I did not get my hair done, Mani and Pedi were my services. I have gone to the nicest of the nicest nail salons (not bragging it's part of my review) and I'm always on the lookout for something local and not in Boston. I was questionable about this salon as I know it's an urban environment and I am very into quite and relaxation while getting my nails done. I will say it was anything but quiet BUT I have never in my life seen someone work so hard. The manicurist did my nails like she was trying to win an award. She did hot stones, a clay foot mask, sugar scrub, massage the whole 9 yards. I don't want to speak about the environment as I don't want to be negative at all because the experience was so incredible. I don't even know where to start with this place! Went there today because I had a Groupon for two shellac manicures and regular pedicures which I got for $69. I saw it as a way to get to test a nail salon at a good value. The pedicure was okay - I was not impressed with the fact that my pedicurist got nail polish on my skin. I admit I have small nails so I understand that it may have gotten on the edges around my nails but that's what acetone is for! In addition, I could still feel the cuticles on some of my toes. I will say the leg and foot scrub and moisturizing were standard so I cannot complain there. One thing to note is that on Groupon, the manicure was advertised as shellac, however, they unfortunately only had gel manicures. For those who don't know the difference, do a quick Google search. Second, the nail polish they used were visibly and there was a lack of newer, trendy colors. The initial nail polish I chose for my hands had gotten thick and almost chalky in its bottle, so I was asked to pick another color. I chose one and it was set aside. When finally time to apply it, the manicurist laughed as she bent the brush 90 degrees and it got stuck in that position. The manicurist and I went through 7 different bottles of nail polish I liked the color of, before we could find one in which both the nail polish itself and the brush looked in good enough condition to apply. I was appalled! Why were they not throwing out all of these old nail polish? How could they think it was okay to keep using these on customers? As time went by, things only got worse. My manicurist - although she was such a sweetheart- just plainly wasn't experienced enough. She told me she'd been at the salon for only a month but I assumed she had prior experience at other salons. Anyway, while cutting my cuticles, she cut my left pinky in addition to a few other fingers... the pinky was cut deep so it would not stop bleeding. She kept applying alcohol to it and rubbing it with cotton balls but as soon as she removed the cotton, more blood kept coming out. Poor lady, she was panicking and literally said aloud, "Oh my god, it won't stop bleeding!" I know mistakes happen, and although my pinky and few other fingers were hurting, I tried to be a good sport and said, "it happens. Let's just focus on the other hand for now." She proceeded but once she put the gel nail polish on all my fingers (except my left pinky finger which was still oozing out blood), and put them under the UV light, she panicked again, because the nail polish looked like it was running and was not drying. My fingers looked horrible. She showed the other manicurists my fingers, and the other manicurist eventually decided to takeover and said she would re-do my nails herself. However, at this point I must point out yet another big disappointment. I went in for my appointment at 5:30 PM and it was 7:50 PM when they told me they would remove the gel and re-do my nails. By this time, the receptionist (who also seemed like the manager of the place) had come by to see the commotion. I had dinner reservations for 8:15. So I truthfully told them that the whole thing was taking much longer than I anticipated and that I didn't have time for a re-do since I had a reservation I was already gonna be late for. The receptionist stepped in at that point, saying that their salon is different than Asian salons and that one should expect a mani-pedi to last around 100 minutes long. I didn't respond to her at the time, but I guess she wasn't aware that amount of time I'd been at that appointment (from 5:30 PM to 7:50) was already is 40 minutes beyond the 100-minute expected time she'd given me. The messed-up gel nail polish was taken off using an electric removal tool, which in their haste, went a little too deep. They removed a good chunk of my nail on some fingers and still left gel nail polish remnants on others. As I type this, my fingernails not only hurt but they look horrible: dry and bruised for the most part with a purple pinky, containing dried blood on the edges. I thought surely they'll have to give me another appointment since they messed up and realized it before I even said anything. And, yes, the receptionist did say I could come in for another appointment so they could fix up my manicure. I said I had availability to come back in 2 weeks. She said okay, but when she described what they'd be doing, it was upsetting. She said when I come in, I'd have the gel nail polish put on, but not get a fresh manicure. She said if I wanted a new manicure- with my cuticles cleaned and my nails buffered again, I'd have to pay $7 additional because they had already done that for me today. Yes but they bruised my fingers and made my pinky bleed in the process! I should get a re-do manicure after what happened, but they expect me to pay?! I honestly do a better job doing my nails at home! DON'T GO TO THIS SALON! WORST MANI-PEDI EXPERIENCE IN MY LIFE! read more
