Maybe it is because I now only eat meat on a rare occasion (such as now), that I found J, N & Z Deli smokehouse a bit of a trip when I first walked in. Never mind the questionably (in)sane woman who butted in front of me with a jar of pickles, the shop is very authentic with smoked meat hanging from everywhere and the scent of smoky flavour permeating the shop. My fears were quelled as soon as I spotted a VERY authentic Ukrainian sausage (kolbassa) my absolute favourite, and a treat from that was passed down from my Ukrainian Baba and Mum. One bite in and I'm hooked! I will definitely come back here from now one for my fix! The authenticity is no joke as the owners are from Yugoslavia and they have been sharing their smoked meat with Vancouver-ites for decades. Lucky us!

Happiness to be surrounded by meat!

However, recently their July rotational flavours really blew my friends and I away, so much that my friends have come 3 times in the last week. Their fresh mango ice cream was absolutely amazing, great flavour and not too sweet. I also really liked the lilikoi cheesecake. Who can resist passion fruit and cheesecake in a creamy ice cream? We decided to also try the float since it already contained a scoop of mango ice cream and it was super yummy! The mango at the bottom mixed perfectly with the sticky rice and coconut and it wasn't too thick despite having all those ingredients and the ice cream. There is some seating inside their cute little store, but due to summer, it can get quite busy on nice days and peak hours. The line up can also get quite hefty so I recommend coming during non peak hours (e.g. weekdays and on rainy/cloudy days) if you don't like to wait.

There's also no taste sampling allowed. The flavors were good - we got fresh mango and aloha rocky road. The mango one was delicious and tasted like real mango. The rocky road one wasn't spectacular and was more like just normal chocolate ice cream with some chocolate and marshmallow pieces. The place is very clean though and there is seating on the inside. There's a public bathroom on the inside.

I tried the Cinnamon rolls too - I loved that the server made sure I got the more desirable middle pieces rather than the corners. Passionfruit white chocolate croissant cube (5/5) Cinnamon roll (3/5) - it was a bit more on the denser drier side despite microwaving it slightly to try to warm & revive the texture. The icing topping was ok. I had to remind myself that this was a VEGAN bakery. So no butter or eggs, which is extremely impressive to execute the pastries and creamy filling to the texture that they did. Definitely would come back for their feature pastries!

I also got the passionfruit cheesecake which was out of this world. The service is friendly, and they were very helpful with helping us choose the cheesecakes Ambience, wise, it is nothing to rave about, but it is not bad either. Now, they have 2 locations on Commercial drive and in Port moody. I got several kinds of cheese cakes for Thanksgiving gathering. What we got: Classic Vanilla, Espresso, Earl grey, Mango, Passion fruits, Pumpkin spice, Chocolate, Houjicha, Birthday, Salted caramel, oreo, Peanut butter, It was good deal - buy 5 get 1 free. I could not have all flavor, Most of them went to other guest. I got Houjicha, and a little bit of salted caramel. Texture was as always rich and firm. I felt flavor was a bit weak for houjicha, still it was very delicious. Salted caramel was great, strong caramel flavor. I labeled flavor name on the top of cheesecake, so, all guest were so curious about all flavors. Birthday cake, mango, oreo, were popular between kids, adult prefer earl grey salted caramel, others. Overall, it was a lot of fun to share variety of cheese cake! I highly recommend to get them for occasion or for yourself.

I will say many people came in with scowls because there werent open seats. So be aware it is a very small shop. Which i love. The service was good. The staff was friendly. Some of the grumpy people wanting a seat; did complain to the staff and the staff were very patient with them. We ordered two pastas a coffee and cookies for dessert. My carbonara was sensational one of the best pastas I've had in vancouver. Very well balanced. Excellent flavour profile. My friend also loved her meal and said her coffee was also one of the best shes ever had. My small jam cookie was delicate and sweet. Very impressed. The atmosphere definitely added to the experience. Rainy day and a warm pasta shop. Tables alive with conversation. (The only downside was the washroom definitely left things to be desired. Its understand that in a small space it can be very hard to have everything be aesthetic.) The staff and atmosphere otherwise very charming. Made me homesick for Montreal. I love that smaller places like these are becoming more common place in Vancouver. I will definitely be back to try more of their pastas. And say hello to their staff again. Its a true gem!

It's so cute and quaint, fits maybe 8-10 people, so perfect for a little lunch date or girlfriend chat fest. We ordered lattes ($5), which were delicious, not too milky, definitely good strong espresso. We shared the daily special which was cream asparagus pasta and a mortadella sandwich. Perfect amount for two people. The pasta was perfectly cooked, and tasted so fresh, it had plenty of fresh cheese on top. I found it was a little salty, and a bit dry, but it was still delicious ($21). I will try another pasta next time. The mortadella sandwich ($13) we asked for grilled and it was sooo good. The fresh made foccacia was amazing. It had plenty of mayo and arugula which paired perfectly with the creamy mortadella. They sell plenty of fresh pasta sauces like bolognese, cacio Pepe, truffle cream sauce, along with fresh pasta including gluten free fresh pasta We loved our time here and we will be back!
