Location: 2818 South FM 973, Austin, TX 78725-7115 I called J P's to see about getting a tune up on my Mercedes. I told him that there were a few things wrong with it. It did not have any acceleration when i stepped on the gas pedal. Most recently I had balls of flames shooting out of the exhaust. (According to an Austin police officer on his way to work) I told him that I was going to replace my spark plugs but had some gunk on it. He gave couple of ideas to try to clean it over the phone. He said that my car was probably running rich. J P's suggested that I change my spark plugs and see how that helps the way it runs. Then I can figure out what else is wrong with it. All of the other shops that I called told me I would have to bring my car in to get an estimate. Groovy Automotive on Red River said that it could cost up to $700 for a tune up on a Mercedes. J P's was extremely helpful. I will definitely be taking my car to them after I change out the sparkplugs. read more

Called JP's and they were able to fit me in that same day for repairs on my car since I had the parts already. Great customer service! They really know what they are doing. Had to replace my interior driver door handle on my 2014 C250 and they were able to get it done by the end of the day with an unbeatable price. Auto shops around town quoted me way much more than JP's did so they want their customers taken care of more. They don't take credit cards but cash/check are accepted! Here's the skinny: I drive an old Mercedes - by choice, not necessity. My 1976 450SLC is an automotive extension of yours truly. It's got personality, it's quirky, it's expensive to maintain, it never stops going, and people like it in that "I'm glad it's not mine" sort of way. Last week, it started peeing on my driveway, and I think I may have done that once or twice myself, not gonna lie. The place I bought my car from (Elite Motorsports in Cedar Park) carries Lamborghini's and crazy hand-built Mercedes SL65's and all sorts of cars that cost 100k+. He has his own team of mechanics and even HE brings the old Mercedes he gets his hands on to JP's Mercedes service. In fact, when I rolled in to this joint, they recognized my car right off the bat. "You bought this off of S.W. at Elite Motorsports, didn't you?" So let's cuddle up to each other and tell a few dirty secrets. I'll go first. This place is way the f-bomb out there, past the airport, in the Del Valle area. Lest you think that's a pretty valley running through a Dell campus somewhere, check a map. I'm in North Central Austin, so it's a but if a trek to drive the car there. If you needed to tow, it would cost you a pretty penny. I just go during non-rush-hour times and it takes me 20 mins. or so each way. Dirty secret #2: This place is. . well . . . a junkyard. He has one of every model Mercedes ever made here, crashed and burned and rusting. Which means sometimes he can pull a part right out of a car he already has, saving you money. Photographers might have fun here. Where else can you find a burnt out Mercedes limo? Only at JP's. These guys may or may not be hanging around all day smoking the doobage, if you know what I am saying. When I pulled up this morning I think they were sitting outside grilling meat. But man can they work on a benz, especially the old ones. My last dirty secret is perhaps the dirtiest, so scoot up real close and let me whisper it into your ear. THESE GUYS ARE HONEST. They quoted me $1050 for my most recent repair, then charged me $811. How many mechanics do you know that quote you more than they actually charge you for labor? Inevitably, I visit a shop at least twice a year. I consider it my "car payment," and it still works out much cheaper than an actual car payment. And I get to drive a badass old Benz. And I get to meet people like JP and Cisco, his trusty sidekick, who might be grilling meat on the hood of an 81 300D that is compressed into a tin-can when you arrive. read more

I was planning to bring the Benz down from Virginia to spend the winter in Texas and knew I needed service on arrival. Some basic stuff with the transmission fluid change which is a little complicated on the '08 requiring a pump to remove the fluid. I was due a state inspection and a few electrical gremlins with the tail light and fog light had appeared on my electronic display a few weeks earlier. I checked YELP and found these guys as highly recommended Benz mechanics. Called for an appointment and confirmed the day before my arrival. I've heard a lot in the reviews about Johnny, but I did not get a chance to meet him. Cisco took care of me. He provided an estimate within a couple of hours of dropping off the car and was able to complete the work by the end of the day. I would have been able to pick up the car that evening, but found out they do not take credit cards. Only cash and checks accepted. That threw me a little since the check book is back in Virginia. The next morning, I visited the local ATM, rode the bus to the airport for a buck, and then took a cab for the minimum cab fee from the airport to their location. A little complicated, but it is a cheap way to get there without someone dropping me off. Don't be put off by their location or facilities. They are very nice people and I highly recommend them. My wife would have killed me if she had known I left the car in what looked like a junk yard. There are some classic looking Benz's out there if you like older cars. For my service, I easily saved several hundred dollars versus taking it to the dealer. read more

It was a side project I had spent months on and not only did they fix it within the hour, they charged me less than I would ever think imaginaable for a Mercedes repair. jp is pretty knowledgeable about older mercedes. i must have given them over $3000 worth of business in the last six months alone restoring my ride. They mostly did ok but there are two reasons i will never gove these guys my buisness again. It took me a few visits to figure this out. 1) they dont ever finish the list of things you ask them to do; and 2) they dont even finish the job they started. I don't know if its all the schwag smoke i smell when i go out there, but they forget to do everything you ask them. everytime. for instance. i got a new transmission, it took two and a half weeks to fix, and a week later it was leaking a half quart a day.. took it back, and they fixed it ...almost. now it doesn't shift into 1st gear after their halfa$$ work. two other Mercedes mechanics said that this is a product of failed due diligence. i talked to them on the phone about fixing it and they said they don't want me as a customer anymore. besides my having to double pay for a job to be done right, not being their customer is ok. because taking it out there from central austin is a good 40min round trip. thats an hour and a half to drop it off and pick it up. three hours to get it done 2/3 rds of the way, and 4.5 hours of driving back and forth for them to complete the job they should have finished in one week. they inevitably do not complete everything i ask them to do anyway. and apparently they do not do want complete even the task at hand. maybe its time to put down the joint and take some notes boys. i know you have the skills, just not so much the diligence. most people like it when the job is done right the first time. swallow your pride, grab 'em, and own up to your mistakes. read more

I moved to NYC and my SLK 320 was kept inside a storage unit for a 1 year and 4 months near Austin airport. When my storage lease was up I decided to drive my car from Austin to Orange Co, CA. Called JP's a week in advance to tell them I was having my car towed to their shop and it had not been driven in over a year and I was planning on driving it to CA. Would need oil change, battery change, and an all around check up to make sure the car would make the 20 hr (1300+ mile) non-stop drive. I was quoted $85 an hour plus parts. Flew in on Thursday noon, got my car towed to JP's around 2pm and the guys changed the oil, switched out old battery, did an all around check tightening things up, checking the tires, brakes, etc... and I was out of there by about 4 pm. Hit the road for CA the next day at 12noon. It's not the "prettiest" shop and the guys aren't wearing company logo shirts like you'd find at chain store car service places - but who cares because this is a no frills get the job done kind of auto shop. Oh - and the 20 hour drive went without a hitch. My car ran like a champ as good as new! PROS. They Do take credit card They are fast if you call in advance and make an appointment to service your car They are good working and honest guys They know their stuff when it comes to Mercedes cars I felt they were reasonable in terms of price - although I did not shop around CONS Location - kind of far out in the middle of nowhere Internet and cell service is a bit spotty so bring a book if you plan to wait for your car read more

Johnny has worked on my car before when he was located off 183. But then he moved and I had to go to another shop Pampered Auto, a convenient place for me because I live in Round Rock. I should have had it towed to JP's. I can honestly say that Johnny is the MAN when working on older Mercedes. His prices are very fair and provides real technical info over the phone on what is probably wrong with your car, he's that good. So if you want to avoid high overhead, high prices, and a lot of BS call JP, NOT Pampered Auto. read more
