A local '80s band called New Wave Crave was playing at a newish outdoor concert venue at the J Resort this past Saturday evening. For some reason I do not know, it was a free evening of them playing their lively show of music(I've been a fan for a few years) plus Voyage, an out of town Journey tribute band. The venue has a secure gated entrance with metal detectors that you have to cross before being wrist banded and allowed within the plaza that is an interesting area with a combination of bands of concrete rows alternating with well-padded artificial turf for setting blankets, chairs, or cushions down to sit on. I've been to several summer concerts in parks before, but the way this place is set up, people are generally encouraged to set their picnic spots in a way that encourages neater rows that still have open walking areas to get around easily...bravo to the people who planned this area! There's plenty of space to walk, dance, or sit around while the music is playing. Yes, there are food trailers selling hamburgers, tacos, and churros (surprisingly savory and good...not just sweet donut sticks). There were three beverage stands (2 near the entrance, one to the left of the stage) selling an assortment of drinks including some canned whiskey and coke and vodka and herbal tea drinks. The Glow Plaza has new 60's-ish neon signage and some 60's-modern spacey pillers that canopies can be attached to. This is late September and only the canopies in the back area closer to the entrance still were attached. During the daytime, these provide shade. I was only concerned because the weather forecast a bit of light rain that evening. Where this venue is located, any storms happening over the Sierra crest blow down from the Verdi area. It did rain, but we were semi-prepared with warm jackets, blankets, and good brimmed hats. So, we were golden and stayed through all the outdoor music. This is an incredible evening of excellent music in an excellent outdoor venue that's kid-friendly and dog-friendly (dogs must be on leashes and calm in crowds in the face of loud music.) The new owner of this property that once was the Sands Resort has knocked it out of the park with the Glow Plaza. He's creating a space that will draw people out to this area in the evening by making it a rocking place to go with enough security to make even people with little kids and dogs feel safe.

I attend a couple of these concerts last summer and we had fun! We loved the rock they were slinging so we took over the dance floor and there was more like 20-30 peeps. I loved this band but cannot remember the name...we were with a big group of friends so we'd been drinking all thru our dinner and then I bought everyone these vodka and soda in cans! They were hideous... But great idea! This a fun outing to attend and the street parking is readily available. After our dinner date we headed over there around 7ish. The crowd was huge this time. Definitely 100+ people. They have drink trucks, sno cone machine, and some cheap food trucks. It's funny I keep seeing the same motley crew of people that I run into at various events. This is fun! It was a bit crowded and we weren't digging the music. When they started playing a Madonna song that was our cue for a quick exit :) Fun and party atmosphere for Friday/ Saturday evening the summer~~

I had the pleasure and honor of seeing the Parliament Funkadelic featuring George Clinton at the Glow Plaza. It was really fun, lots of space to dance, and the sound was fantastic. There's a 3 beverage shacks and a few food trucks. The beverage shack service was pretty quick given there were lines. There are plenty of porta potties located in the back of this outdoor venue with hand washing stations. For smokers, there's a designated smoking area.

Very fun, casual venue. Love that they have folding chairs in addition to picnic tables but if coming in a little later might want to bring your own folding chair. They have cornhole which is fun and space feels safe with security at the entrance. Wish they had a few more choices of entrees for food trucks (including more vegetarian) and draft beer and maybe a blended drink food truck, loved the band tonight, Jakes Garage-plenty of 70-80 songs

Reno needed a place like this! We first came to The Glow Plaza last summer and were happy to see it back again this summer. This outdoor space has free concerts every Friday and Saturday from 6:30-10:30 pm through September 3. This past weekend, we saw a very good blues band and look forward to seeing more musical offerings that they have in store the rest of the summer. Food and drinks are available for purchase from local food trucks. They have round picnic tables available but I also saw some people bringing their own low-back chairs. Best of all, they are dog friendly. Be sure to walk around the inner perimeter to read about historical landmarks in Reno. And there are also interesting art sculptures to enjoy!

Had an awesome time! But set up was kind of weird. The restrooms were super far, and a lot of standing concert was great !
