pho with steak, brisket and flank steak

Ok we are loyal to Kevin's down south in Walnut Creek, but wanted to investigate! Interior was quite nice and fancy, compared to most viet places i've tried. Service was nice as well. The egg rolls were very fried, but i guess that's what makes them good! The pho broth was very rich, but too rich that it was salty. I even poured some water to dilute it. What i loved was the meats they had, they weren't stingy. Everything was so tender and yummy! Overall we live closer to Kevin's so I think we'll stick to there, but if you're up north it doesn't hurt to try.

My coworker and I tried their Banh Mi yesterday. We were both disappointed. Thin Slices of meat, and lots of veggies for fillers for the price of almost $14 each. and Also when you pay card there is an additional %%%.

Really friendly staffed outdoor seating so dog friendly. Has large tv inside for sports. Food is decent good flavor. Chicken wing is crispy but lacks flavors the rice plate is tasty.

4 stars for a superb Bahn Mi (Vietnamese sandwich)! Ordered take out at the counter on a Sunday before 7pm, and my sandwich was ready in 10 minutes. The Grilled Chicken sandwich was flavorful & delicious, on a Vietnamese baguette that had a satisfying crispy crunch to it. It was a good size and decent portion of food, as well. Minus one star for their pricing & payment policy. The menu lists the cash price for food items, which can be misleading if you're not paying attention to the policy sign in the restaurant (separate from the menu) or not reading the fine print on their website's menu. If you pay with credit card, they charge you 3% extra! Most people that I know don't often carry cash, myself included. I'll be back for another sandwich, but the pho here is already quite pricey at the cash price. There is indoor and outdoor seating. Getting a close parking spot can be tough.

This place was really good. I'm only giving it 4/5 stars since I was sick when I tried it. The pho broth is really good and don't forget to get the side of pickled onions! The coconut coffee was okay for me. Since I was sick it just tasted like sweet milk. The service was great. Everyone was very attentive. We had like 3 different people check on us every 15ish mins. The place also looks very clean and modern. Will definitely have to try this place again when I'm better!

Love their pho. They make the sliced meat and tendon chunks like the way my parents did. Great broth flavor.

I've gone to this place 3 times since they've opened since I want to try everything on the menu. Genuinely nice Vietnamese people who share the love of food. I've brought friends and family here and everyone so far has loved the authentic food. Restaurant is very spacious and clean which is a huge bonus. Will definitely continue coming back and trying all the other items!!

I got the grilled chicken banh mi for takeout and I have to say it was just okay. The bread was great it was soft had had good flavor and the chicken was seasoned well. The issue is for around $14 they are charging a premium on Vietnamese food I figured they would give more filling. The piece of chicken you can see in the picture is very thin which was disappointing.

A cold, overcast day calls for pho, and I've been looking forward to trying J's Pho Cafe, which had recently opened in the neighborhood. We arrived around lunchtime when the restaurant was bustling; fortunately, there was one available table right next to the door. It was a bit chilly sitting next to the open door, but we were grateful that we were able to be seated right away. We browsed the menu, which offered a variety of pho, rice plates, banh mi, and other Vietnamese dishes. I ordered the chicken pho because I was in the mood for something comforting but not too heavy. After placing our order, our food was brought out relatively quickly - along with a neat, wrapped bundle of utensils including chopsticks, a fork, a metal spoon, and a soup spoon. My pho was served with a plate of fresh toppings, including bean sprouts, cilantro, jalapeño, and lime. Upon adding in my toppings and a healthy drizzle of Sriracha, I dug into my noodles. While I sometimes find pho broth to be bland, this broth had a rich chicken flavor that was only enhanced by the lime and Sriracha. The chicken pieces were thinly sliced and tender, and there was a decent serving of vermicelli noodles. The other members of my party ordered the wonton soup and spicy beef soup specials, and they had no constructive feedback on their dishes. After we finished eating, it took a few attempts to catch a server's attention to get the bill. Meanwhile, a healthy line continued to form out the door. We left very satisfied after our lunch and are looking forward to our next visit.

Pho broth that they told me was bun bo hue
    Chau N.

Newer place so I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt. Called for to go order. Placed me on hold for 15 mins and forgot. We decided to just stop in to eat. Ordered pho and the bun Bo hue, they brought out the bowl in the photo and I said this is not bun Bo hue the server argues with me about how it is I said this smells like and is pho broth it only has the correct noodles and pork cake... Continued to say it is bun bo hue to me anyway. I stared at the person in disbelief and took the bowl and a guy runs out of the kitchen telling me that's not bun Bo hue only then did they correct it. It's embarrassing as a Vietnamese person to experience that type of engagement at a Vietnamese restaurant because how did you not know the difference? Was excited but not anymore. Still difficult to get someone on the phone today lol. Hopefully they can work through the kinks.

I love J's Pho and Cafe. I think I've been there now 4 times since they opened and I'm planning on making this my regular spot for Vietnamese. I had the chicken pho which was flavorful and well spiced and a generous portion. The Vietnamese crepe was crispy and delicate and I loved the shrimp. The chicken wings were crunchy and really well seasoned too. The service was pretty good. They're still working the kinks out since they're new but food comes out fast and the server was attentive. I'm hoping to try everything on the menu as soon as I can. Highly recommend! So good to have a new Vietnamese place in the neighborhood.

We returned on a weekday and are happy to update our review to five stars. The service was noticeably faster, our children were thoughtfully provided water in lidded cups, and the staff was both kind and attentive. The food was delicious, and we look forward to returning. We spent over $100 for a family of four, and were pleasantly surprised to receive a 10% discount. While prices are on the higher side, the overall experience and quality make it worthwhile - we will definitely be back.

Large portions of the special. It could feed a family of 4 decently...or a very large person singularly.

Fortunately, the food inside lives up to the '80's music. This place is a little Eastern-European treasure chest. The meat selection alone is worth the trip: excellent veal sausages, proper kabanosy (both American-made and the legit European imports), and enough smoked and cured options to make you reconsider every bland sandwich you've ever eaten. Then there's the sweets. Not just a few shelves: an impressively deep lineup of Eastern European treats, both loose and packaged. The kind where you walk in thinking you'll grab one thing and leave with three mysterious chocolates and something wrapped in gold foil. It's also my most reliable solution for a sudden Żywiec beer craving. And if that's not the mood, there's always a jar of pickled mushrooms waiting patiently. In short: a small, charming deli that punches way above its size... and yes, I still sing the Kate Bush song every single time I go.

This time, though, I wanted to try something different, so I went with the chicken and mushroom filling. It was also very tasty. One thing I really like is that they focus more on the filling, and the bread is not too thick. It always has that slightly greasy goodness in the best way. So yummy. As much as I enjoyed the food, my interaction with the woman working there this time was not great. When I arrived, she was unpacking a box. She saw me but did not greet me or ask if I was ready to order. I stood there awkwardly for a few minutes before she finally asked. It would have been nice to be acknowledged right away. I ordered two different fillings, and when she was packing them, I asked if she could please label them so I would know which one was which. She responded by saying, "I wasn't going to make you guess." I did not find that very friendly. In fact, I thought it was borderline rude. I still really enjoyed the food, but that interaction took away from the overall experience a little bit. I wish the customer service had been a bit warmer.

There is a lot of parking since it is in the Safeway shopping center in Downton PH. Decided to go with my comfort dish, which is Grilled Pork Rice Plate. Grilled Pork Rice Plate: I opted for brown rice for a healthier approach. The pork was cooked perfectly and seasoned well. It was also not dry and had a good amount of flavor to it. It sat on a bed of lettuce, which gave it a nice presentation. Overall, a simple dish which I thoroughly enjoyed and had leftovers after. For appetizers, we tried their crispy rolls. The husband couldn't eat these because they had some shrimp in them, but more for the kids and me. Came with a side of fish sauce, and overall was pretty tasty. My son isn't too big on pho, so he tried a pork chop plate and the garlic noodles. He said both were good. He ate it all, so actions match his words there. My daughter mentioned the chicken pho she had contained a lot of chicken and she likes it that way. She also noticed the better quality of meat and bigger portions. Their special pho is an XL size and comes with the shortrib on the bone. I need to come back here very hungry to devour that or at least split that and other stuff with a friend. I've had their other beef pho, and they were good. Def good quality beef. There was a time where I wanted a certain combo without the meatballs and requested they added more of their tendon and tripe instead, but it seems they just took out the meatballs since there were just a couple pieces of tendon in there. The noodles really cooked within the broth. It was interesting since the broth didn't feel too hot as I was able to eat / drink it right away, but the noodles ended up much softer than I'd like. Casual setting here with the tables, cashier, some TV on the walls, etc.
