They just dropped a new Pork Rib Soup, and it's amazing. They use spinach in it for a healthier twist, and it works so well! I tried the pork rib soup this time, but my absolute all time favorite is their Dolsot Bibimbop. It comes out sizzling hot, and the gochujang has a unique, refreshing yuzu flavor that is so good. Also, my boys absolutely love their Galbi, and their Soft Tofu Soup is another one of my comfort foods. Every single side dish and main flavor is always so fresh and high quality. Then I found out the owners of Sistory had opened Saneh Bangkok in Pleasant Hill, so we decided to celebrate my aunt's birthday there. Wow, it exceeded all of our expectations. Every single dish was outstanding, and honestly, even better than I remembered from Sistory. We ordered the Pad Thai, Pad Kee Mao, Red Curry, Spring Rolls, and the fried chicken with roti and Massaman curry. Everything was perfectly seasoned, fresh, and packed with flavor. The noodles had that authentic wok flavor I'd been searching for, the curry was rich and delicious, and the roti with Massaman curry was absolutely incredible. The portions were generous, the service was warm and attentive, and the whole experience reminded me why I loved Sistory so much in the first place. We were so full that we didn't have room for dessert, but next time I am definitely getting the mango sticky rice! As if that wasn't enough, I also learned the owners are behind Thai Lao Pakaoma in El Cerrito, which took over the old Banana Leaf location--and it's only five minutes from my house! Our usual order is: Chow Mein w/Prawns Salt & Pepper Pork Chops Crab Meat Puffs Veggie Egg Rolls In the last two orders the chow mein was either soaked in soy sauce or completely unflavored, like boiled spaghetti noodles. This last time there were only six prawns in the serving. The crab puffs were not as pictured, more like fried empanadas, with no trace of crab. Just cream cheese. The pork chops were soft and the flavor was not nearly as good as previous times. Two small servings of their amazing Chinese mustard are usually included. Not this time. After two disappointing orders we are convinced that something fundamental has changed in their food prep and we won't be ordering anything else in the future. It's pretty sad. All the fried foods for that matter! One thing they definitely have going for them is selection. I had no water so I had to ask for that, and the waiter just acted like he knew, but if he knew he should have brought it when I first sat down. Then I had to ask for naan, and again he just seemed to know he was late in getting it to me, and I had to wait. No apologies. I finished my first plate of food before the naan ever came, and it wasn't very good naan anyway, so no big loss there. The food was all incredibly too salty for my taste, and very average quality. As I was paying and leaving there was a couple that came in and they wanted to sit at the same table where I had initially wanted to sit, and the table was still dirty. Overall this experience was no better than the former Saroor, not bad but not good either.
