I was really disappointed with my experience at J Wok. I arrived about 30 minutes before their posted closing time, only to find out they had already closed. If a business plans to close earlier than the hours listed, their hours need to be updated so customers aren't wasting their time driving over. The food here was good. Second time visiting and the bourbon chicken was good. It was not overly salting like many of others. The service was fitting for a traditional Chinese restaurant. Chinese takeout is either hit or miss for me. I am either in love with my meal, or throw half of it away. J-Wok has become our go-to Asian takeout spot and I don't expect that to change anytime soon. Recently, we branched out from our usually sushi order and I go some Pad Thai to go along with it. It tasted fresh, wasn't greasy or overly sauced, and had just the right amount of toppings in it. I almost always add a little chili sauce to my Asian food, and once I did that it was perfect. I will definitely be ordering the Pad Thai again (probably in a few days...) As I mentioned, we usually get sushi when we order out from here. We kept it light this time with just a cali roll and a smoked salmon roll but both were fresh, well made, and held their shape through the "picking up, dipping, and inserting into mouth" motion that sushi requires. We've had a variety of rolls from here and are never disappointed. One of the guests we were with ordered Curry Fried Rice, dumplings (can't remember which ones), and Mongolian beef. All of which I sampled and were wonderful. I think the Curry Fried rice might become a staple for us when we do future ordering. J-Wok does Asian takeout right. Quick, fresh, and reasonably priced. We ordered take out from here so my review reflects that! We ordered a bunch of sushi online because it was easy and the perfect excuse to not cook. The online ordering process was very simple to use and told us the wait time of 35 minutes for our order to be ready. Something unique about this place is that they have two menus. One is Chinese inspired and one is Japanese inspired. Both have various options but we wanted sushi so we focused on the Japanese menu. Each roll came with 8 pieces around the $14 range per roll. I had a couple of my girlfriends over and we ordered a bunch of different rolls to try. We got a few sexy mexican rolls, the spicy tuna, and tiffany's roll. We got extra spicy mayo and it was a solid move because the mayo was our favorite part. My sister has had the sexy mexican roll before and I'm so glad she suggested it. It had shrimp tempura, spicy crab, jalapeno, cilantro, and was topped with avocado. The fish was fresh and the jalapeno and cilantro were such a great surprise in the roll; I've never had anything like it! Again, pair this with the spicy mayo and the room will go silent. The sushi had great portions and was very filling. We got an order of edamame and it was still hot when we got it at home. My husband picked our order up for us because he is the sweetest pea in the world. I think our order was ready exactly on time because he picked up rather than us doing delivery. Quality of food and service in need of attention! I often hesitate writing critical reviews. The experiences at J Wok, however, have encouraged me to comment on the poor quality of the food and the most unkind service found at the take out venue. For sometime, we have joyed the food, ambiance, and service at Sushi Junkie. From the folks working there, we understood that the same family or group owns J Wok. Under such an impression, we have tried ordering various types of food from J Wok. While ordering online has been fair, once at the venue, the reception, tracking of the order, and getting the food has been consistently not pleasant. We have had a young man and women and a mid-age person tending to our various orders, including Chinese, Korean, and Japanese foods. Invariably, not very kind service. In comparison to other Asian establishments, the packaging of the food seemed carelessly put together. The quality of the food has been consistently poor. Even a simple dish such as fried rice, which we ordered once, was not pleasant to the eye, the condiments were off, and the meet had the consistence of rubber. Well, we thought, as we placed our last order (literally), maybe Chinese or Korean foods are not their things, despite their advertising. We should stick to what we know is good. Lets order take out sushi. Again, the assumption was that the food would be as good as what we have had Shushi Junki. Nope, we were wrong. The picture below, depicts a 60 dollars order (seaweed salad missing). The food lacked presentation, it was packed tightly in one container, the sauce from one item shared with the other items, slivers of discolored fish... enough to say, we decided to take discard the food. I wish I could have something positive to comment on about J Wok. I feel that the businesses need to work on respecting their customers, serving quality of food, and contributing to our community life. read more

I will never again order from JWok. Everytime I order, there is something wrong with my order, not to mention that their prices have sky-rocketed. Their lunch specials went from $11.95 to $15.95!! They do not use chinese vegetables in their dishes like other chinese restaurants do. No bean sprouts, no water chestnuts, no bok choy, no mushrooms, no celery. Their eggrolls are 1/2 inch thick. But this was a good solid 4 stars. All very fresh. All really piping hot. Had lo mein and chicken with vegetables. And potstickers with a black vinegar dip. Very authentic. EAT HERE! This place is amazing. My fiancé and I have been here a handful of times and today we ordered delivery. I had a rough day so it was a treat. The delivery person was very polite. Food arrived warm. The spicy tuna roll, my favorite thing from here, is pretty spicy but sooooo good! I also got the tonkotstu ramen. The ramen, which I ordered spicy, had a little kick but a ton of flavor. The pork, the broth, the bamboo shoots, the seaweed, eggs, everything was so flavorful. Hmmm, it would seem i checked us in (and dined at) Sushi Junkie which is attached and share's the same kitchen, but we came strictly for the Cantonese and Mandarin to kick off Chinese New Yr....It should be noted that Sushi Junkie has far better environs and is sorta sleek, really nice and homey homes. If i'm a betting man, i'm placing a wager on J-Wok/Sushi Junkie for having the most extensive menu of any place in Chicagoland. Exhibit A: You know how many Asian places put numbers next to the entree or menu items? I think they ring in at around 500! Totally off the charts that menu and completely dizzying....but I digress. As mentioned, we honed in the aforementioned Chinese and settled on the following, every dish was pretty outstanding on its own merits: Veg Egg Roll - Ok, this was the only exception. Standard, a bit too much breading for me but not bad and not greasy either, so bonus for that. Hot & Sour Soup - This was some of the best H/S Soups i've ever had and a total game changer. Supremely balanced and exceedingly fresh, wow. Ma Po Tofu - Apparently a Sichuan province specialty which is Tofu set in a spicy chili- and bean-based sauce. It also included some bright green onion, water chestnut and minced pork. So good. Shrimp Lo Mein - Runner up dish of the night and, again, achieved a perfect balance of flavor, freshness and fulfillment. Short Rib in XO Sauce - As usual, the XO sauce was shot worthy. Also, as usual, the Short Rib was a bit too fatty but that's how they do it. 3/5. I had the shrimp pad thai and egg roll ($8.95). It was really bad. Something was wrong with the sauce, too sweet and almost ketchup-y, cafeteria-style. I ended up scavenging for the shrimp pieces (too salty) and leaving behind the noodles. The egg roll didn't have much filling or meat. I had a bite and regretted the calories. This didn't taste like a $9 lunch. I'd rather go to a Chinese lunch buffet for cheaper. For pad thai, Penny's Noodles over in Oak Park is a nice alternative. With the quarantine in place we've been trying virtually all the Chinese/Cantonese/Asian restaurants in the immediate area. We've also had the idea of helping them stay in business given the challenges facing small business today. That's why we've been so massively disappointed with absolutely everyone we've been trying within a five-mile radius of Berwyn. Overall, the food has been mediocre at best. It's almost as if the motivation to run a decent restaurant is gone. Maybe it's because the regular staff have been laid off and owners are trying to do everything themselves? Whatever it is, these people need to be trying harder. They need to make sure that the customers they have left, who are supporting them, are satisfied. We all understand what they've been going through but when they charge us $50 for food and deliver garbage, we're never coming back. J-Wok and Sushi Junki are the same business and work as one unit to produce their orders. With what I presume is basically a "no-staff" situation, the people running this location are clearly pushed to deliver beyond their capacity. The attitude of "why pay for workers when my restaurant can't seat customers" is on the one hand understandable and on the other hand, moronic when you have a thriving take-out business. The first time we ordered from this place the food was really good. This time, our $50 bill yielded garbage. All of the food was delivered cold. There were actual shells in the crunchy shrimp tempura sushi. Which I presume is not what was supposed to make them crunchy. My mind started thinking about the safe food handling procedures that were obviously ignored when the sushi was made. If they were this careless about our food preparation, what else was being sent out to customers that was there and not seen? The egg rolls were half the size of the first time and were both stale and cold. The quality of the food was terrible. The small amount we ate was only because we were really hungry. We still threw most of it away. When we called to complain - which we rarely both to do with anyone - the woman who picked up the phone yelled "your food is on the way!" giving one the impression that she was... stressed. When my wife explained our situation, the woman blamed her supplier for the shells in the sushi. My wife pointed out that they made the sushi there - right? She said they did but that it was still the supplier's fault and she wasn't responsible. She said "sorry" for the cold, stale food but in typical "people just lie to get free meals and I'm not falling for it" attitude, she offered no compensation for our trouble. You want to know why "Restaurant Nightmares" is still on the air after so many years? It's because stupid people own and run restaurants. They care nothing about quality, or customer service. The skimp on the important stuff like enough staff to run the place, cleanliness and the quality of the food. They end up cheating the customer and then they look for loans to get through the hard times. Because it's all about COVID and lying customers and certainly not about their lack of business acumen. Someone posted on here that the chicken was the bomb and it was good so I tried it Now I love egg rolls but they have to be at least crispy the egg roll was horrible it was about 4 inches long and very dry and uncooked but I had already pulled off by this time. I have never ordered for delivery so I can't speak about that! We have always dined in and we like the food very much! They offer free self-serve green tea, which I always enjoy even if we're not dining in. I've never had a problem with that. They are not the friendliest of people but I think it's more cultural & I'm okay with that. Only issue I've ever had was once, a few years ago, they had stopped taking pre-paid credit card orders because they said, "many people order but don't come pay!" "Well, I'm giving you my credit card number to pay so if I don't pick up food it's my loss"! They didn't care and didn't let me order ahead! Well, that only lasted a week and I haven't had an issue since!
