My spouse and I have eaten here many times and have never had a bad experience. The dining area has a nice decor and style. Staff were friendly as usual and the food was very tasty. Our food also arrived faster than I thought, although the restaurant wasn't the busiest at that hour. The vodka soda fish and chips I had were crispy and enjoyable. I would recommend them. Price was average when compared to other bar and grill restaurants. They do offer a nice reward program and an app which has a few features that can make your experience better. While I did not eat on the patio on this particular visit I will say it looked like one of the nicer patios I've seen this summer. An all around good restaurant. read more

family day .. 2025..tonight we decided to go to one of our favorite places,,our favorite meal on our minds.,.Chicken Parm.. always delicious.. always consistent,, so tonight a young mother waited on us.. If you want the best chicken strips ever, this is your go-to place. The chicken strips are nice and crispy with an amazing batter and the fries they come with are nice and crispy. I got gravy to go along with it and it was delicious. 10/10 service as well. Very fast and polite. Will go again! read more

What a terrible meal. Stopped in on a Saturday night. Service at the bar was slow, slow, slow. The food took more than 30 minutes to come out and the plate was hot to the touch (which makes me think it sat under a heat lamp). The asiago chicken pasta dish had little flavor at all, the sauce was watery, and worst of all it made me sick the next day. So slow service, food that tastes terrible and might make you sick. I want to start off by saying that 3 years ago the idea of not only giving Jack Astor's 5 stars, but the idea of loving this place would of been a joke to me. This used to be the chain my girlfriend and I would jokingly suggest going too because of how bland everything about it was, and 3 years later here I am giving it 5 stars for the overall experience, food, and service. So this was my first time coming to this St. Catharines location and I was super impressed. The place looks very cool to start, it is covered in televisions, Canadian art, and even some sports memorabilia. The menu is much smaller then it used to be, but I honestly think it's 10x better then it used to be in terms of quality. Originally I was in the mood for some sort of rice dish but upon seeing the "Dirty Bird Chicken Sandwich" my mouth started to water and I needed it to be in my mouth. The food took about 15 minutes or so to come out which is expected at any restaurant and our waitress was super friendly so that makes up for most things in my book. When the food arrived it looked simply amazing, hands down one of the best chicken sandwiches I've possibly ever had. Put that side by side with some delicious french fries and you have yourselves a delicious meal. What can I say, over the past few trips to Jack Astor's they have totally changed the way I look at them. I loved my meal and I will be 100% coming back soon! read more

I pleased to say that Jack Astor's is definitely an amazing chain restaurant. I've been coming here for a few years now and at first I wasn't so thrilled with it. However, over time they have really changed what they were doing to create an amazing restaurant. The menu has a good amount of different types of dishes. The have everything from big salads to rice bowls to burgers. At this time they had a summer specials menu. It was a menu celebrating Canada's 150 birthday. I went with the Montreal smoked meat poutine, I mean how can you not? It was so good. I was really impressed. Our server was also really great. I do recommend coming to a jack astors. A group of 15 of us went to have lunch at this location on a Sunday afternoon. I have never had such amazing service at a restaurant. The manager was so kind and gave us a history lesson on this location. He also gave us bread on the house for no reason. The staff were so attentive and polite. Best restaurant ever. read more

On multiple occasions my girlfriend and I have received, what I can't even consider, horrible service at best. Yet, we keep trying and they keep failing to provide. The latest was this evening when we arrived, no hostess present so we sat ourselves bar side at a high top. Proceeded to watch the bartender serve multiple tables without acknowledging us. Watched multiple servers walk by chit chatting, again without any sort of acknowledgement. We waited a solid 15 minutes before walking out hoping someone would even notice that... but still nothing at all. Love the food and drink selection when service is actually received. This was inarguably one of the worst restaurant visits of my life, and this coming from a usual Jack Astor's fan. We used to live in Etobicoke and I would visit that location frequently for work lunches and special dinners with my family. I'd typically order the Sesame Chicken Bowl from their bountiful menu, as it was always filling and delicious. When we arrived at the St Catharines location, we were quickly seated by our gracious hostess and were looking forward to having our usual faves, albeit in a different location than our previously local Jack's. Well, the menu was a one-pager, not at all what we were used to, and I asked our server if they still had the Sesame Chicken despite it not being on their abbreviated menu. We were told it was not available there as they were more of a satellite JA's rather than a full one. "But we do have fried chicken, and they don't", she said. She took our drink orders and came back in a reasonable amount of time with them, and asked for our dinner order. My wife decided to order the aforementioned Fried Chicken, while our kids ordered the kid's pizza and chicken bites, and I splurged and ordered the Classic NY Steak, medium rare. Our server promised to get the kid's orders in first so they wouldn't have to wait. This probably wasn't the best idea, as it turns out, because the kids got their orders and were completely finished before my wife and I received ours. It's basically from the time the food came that the evening turned terrible. My daughter did not like her chicken bites or fries at all. My son enjoyed his pizza, at least, but he was the only one of us who had an enjoyable meal. We waited what seemed like ten minutes or so after our kids had consumed every last scrap off their plates for our food, and during that time, our server never came by to ask if anyone wanted a refill of their drinks or how the kids had enjoyed their meals. Eventually, the adult dinners came, delivered to us by other staff (not our server), and to say they were a letdown would be understating things by a considerable margin. My wife's fried chicken was "slimy" with a considerable aftertaste, and she shared some with our daughter and myself for confirmation. We didn't try the supplied dipping sauces, but according to my wife, one of them tasted like "mustard and vinegar mixed together", and she normally loves mustard. Not impressed, considering this was one of the dishes our server touted as being a reason to visit in the first place! Now, to my steak. It was absolutely NOT a $30 piece of meat; it was simply full of gristle, and I found it was a huge chore to chew through every single bite I cut. It was cooked properly, at least; however, I felt that it must have been supplied by some grade-Z beef supplier from Baffin Island it was so chewy. Yeah, I know we weren't at the Keg or Ruth's Chris, but my gosh it was terrible! On top of all this, our server never once came back to ask how our meals were going, or if we wanted drink refills. My wife eventually flagged her down once we were pretty much done to get the kids and herself refreshments of the refreshments, and even at that point, no "how was everything?" was offered - ever. Finally, we were able to get the kids complimentary dessert orders in, with both the kids ordering brownies without whipped cream. Our server also presented me with the cheque. Still no "did you enjoy your meals?" or anything along those lines, even after giving me the bill. She came back to process my payment several minutes later; still no kid's brownies, even though I'd now paid for our dinners! Finally, literally 15 minutes after the dessert order was taken, and around 7-8 minutes after I'd paid for dinner, the kids got their freezing cold and rock-hard brownies, served to them by another hostess. They'd apparently come right out of a freezer or super-cold fridge, and hadn't been warmed up at all. The kids struggled to cut off pieces of them for consumption with the supplied forks, but the necessary chisels that would have been more suited to the task weren't included. As soon as they had eaten what they could, we made a beeline to the door and vowed NEVER to go back. Nobody (outside of my son) enjoyed any of the food, and the service was slow, unfriendly and not at all interested in our dining experience. I always tip in the neighbourhood of 18-20%+ as I worked in the restaurant industry myself in my younger days, but when I entered the tip to the CC machine, I went straight to 15% and not a nickel more. I would never go back to this location, would not recommend it to friends, and came here to warn others - especially if you're used to one of the other locations that has its stuff together. This is a sports bar and televisions are everywhere. But they do have seats away from the TV's as well and they keep the sound low enough (at least during the day) so that you can still have a conversation. They have a great cider on tap and my partner ordered an n/a beer - which they had in stock! (that so seldom happens). I had the salmon. It was cooked perfectly. The side dish of rice and quinoa seemed overcooked to me. It was gummy in flavor. I felt that there wasn't enough quinoa to offset the bland taste of the rice. The tiny portion of vegetables would not be considered a portion. It was tasty, but I was expecting a lot more with a fish dish. My partner's hamburger was good, with two patties, it was a huge burger. He had a side of salad as well as fries. The server got this mixed up and didn't realize that he ordered both, but she quickly did a rush order and they were out in 5 minutes. I haven't been here in over a year, and it seems that the prices have increased significantly and the food quality is not as great as it was when we visited last. Maybe we were there on an off day. My other complaint is that there is minimal gf food to choose from unless you want burgers on a gf bun. I wonder why the salads are not gf - I'm guessing it's the dressing - which they should be able to offer alternatives. My server didn't seem too knowledgeable in this area, so I stuck with the menu items that were designated gf. read more

We've been coming to Jack Astor's for the last while to watch sports on their tvs in the bar area. We keep coming back for lots of good reasons. The atmosphere/decor is amazing, the staff is friendly, and their after 9pm menu prices goes well with our beers. Whatever you are doing, keep it up. Many happy returning customers! :) read more

Used to be good... And the food probably still is, but, the wait staff is so unorganized that the last 3 times I've been there, the food has come out cold. I'm guessing it comes down to awful front end management. The "manager" couldn't even come over to the table and deal with the problem himself. Lol...really though, it is a chain. Low end food served by equally low end wait staff. Also, don't use the washroom before you eat. Smells like dirty cat urine. Keep up the great work jack Astor's! read more

Had a coupon for free burgers on my birthday so thought we should try it out. Started off with calamari which came with two very tasty dipping sauces. One was a Sriracha cocktail sauce and the other was a garlic aioli I think. I ordered the Italian burger which comes with goat cheese on top. Very delicious. My wife had the smoke house burger which is topped with onion tanglers. I even got a free brownie for my birthday. The waitress was very kind and thoughtful. The food was quick to the table. Have come here for over 20 years and now officially wont be going back. Service is usually good. The problem is the menu/food. Paid $15.84 plus tax and tip for 5 chicken fingers that were the same size of the prongs on my fork, sooo small. They took the pizza off the menu, the 3 peppercorn rigatoni off, and now the fajitas are gone too. Had the burger that was "new and improved" and was just a sloppy mess that tasted like it had taco seasoning in it. The newly renovated place looks a lot better. If your just going for beer ok. This place was suggested to us by the hotel we were staying at while we visited the Falls in Niagara...it was a Sunday and we arrived just before it got busy. The manager came over to our table and we told him it was our first time here and what would he recommend. He made a couple of suggestions. After our drinks were brought the manager came back with a bread/garlic app. He said we like to show our appreciation for first time guests. Both my wife and I were truly surprised. A little bit disappointed today by the service. It was an extremely dead day, there was only two other tables besides my boyfriend and I. We were served by the same woman who sat us, she got us drinks right away and gave us time to look over the menus. 10 minutes before she came back to take our orders. We got the calamari to start. Then two burgers. My boyfriend ordered a Caesar salad as his side and I ordered sweet potato fries as mine(I'm allergic to regular potatoes). Calamari came out and our server brought the salad that was supposed to go with my boyfriends burger out as well. That really confused us but we didn't say anything. Starters were pretty good. Then the burgers came out. My boyfriends burger without the side as she had brought it out earlier and then my burger came out with regular fries which was very disappointing because I could not eat them, so I gave them to my boyfriend to eat with his burger. Our waitress did not stop by at all after she dropped off the food. She didn't check to see if everything was tasting okay(which is when I would have pointed out the French fry issue). She did not stop by to take our plates away when we were done, a different waitress did after they had been sitting there empty for 5 minutes. It was then another 10 minutes before another lady(I'm assuming was the manager on duty) stopped by to drop off our bill. Good calamari and burgers saved this review from getting one star because of the poor service by our disappearing waitress. read more

So disappointed with our experience this evening. We ordered Beer and Cheddar Soup which was yummy as always... Then our jacked up Caesar's came out and we both noticed an off taste very 'vinegary' as two former bartenders we knew that something wasn't right. We sent them back and they said it was the fact we ordered them spicy that they tasted that way... Our sauced up fingers then came out... Cold. Delivered by the manager, you could SEE that the fries were cold before I even touched them! We both just looked at each other like oh god now we have to tell him the foods cold! Even the side of gravy was lukewarm. Well we told the server, he took the fries and came back a while later asking if the manager came over yet, he hadn't. He then left again and came back saying that they took the food off the bill but they won't be making us any more food, so he'll get us boxes and we can heat it up at home and we can just pay for the beers we ordered after the Caesar's. Brought us the bill... Didn't bring boxes. We left hungry and feeling like we just got an invitation to leave the restaurant. We would have gladly paid for the food, we love the menu items we ordered and would have appreciated if they came out hot. If this was our first bad experience in the last while I wouldn't have posted this... But it just happens to be getting progressively worse.
