False advertisement. I purchased a 2017 vehicle and received a phone call in 2019. They said I prequalified for a newer model at the same monthly payment or lower. They asked if I would like to fill out an application over the phone to confirm. I agreed and they ran my credit and confirmed I can come in and upgrade. They emphasized numerous times my monthly payment will be the same or even lower. A TOTAL SCAM! a scam to lure customers in to get them to buy a new car at a higher price. After they had me pick out the vehicle and test drive and then they said they couldn't do it. They kept on quoting me significantly higher monthly payments and kept trying to convince me to buy. As a grad student and a mother that works my time is very limited. If I make an appointment I expect it to be kept. So can someone tell me what the point of scheduling an appointment is here if they aren't even going to honor them? If it's first come first serve then say that. Don't make me go through the trouble of even scheduling. I get there 20 to 8 and there's a line around the dealer. Is EVERYONE'S appointment for service at 8 A.M?? Because if that's the case then say that too. I've never had a problem before so it sucks that my saturday morning is completely thrown off because of this. If people get there before their appointment times make them wait until their times, it shouldn't be this complicated. Or don't schedule appointments at all. I've scheduled my next change at Hodgkins. Maybe the experience will be better there. read more

Want to let everyone know that I have had the WORST time with my car at Jack Phelan Chevrolet. Let me start by saying ordinarily I wouldn't have taken my car to a dealer since they usually charge way more than necessary. Unfortunately I had to take my car there due to some recalls. I dropped it off on Saturday and Jose, the man in charge, said he wouldn't be able to look at it Saturday but would look at it right away on Monday. I told him that I noticed the check engine light was on and asked if that was related to the recalls. He said it might be and he could check. Then I asked for an oil change. Fast forward to 6pm Monday when I hadn't heard anything, so I called. I got ahold of Jose, who looked up the car and said they had to order parts but it should be done by noon Tuesday. Would have been nice for them to call but whatever. I got a call around noon Tuesday saying the check engine light was on due to issues with transmission, he wasn't sure specifically what but would probably require a new transmission and it would cost $3600. I told him to just do the recall items. He said it would be ready at 4pm. Tuesday night I went to pick up my car. Jose sat for five minutes typing at his computer and then told me to meet him at the cashier. No explanation of what they did, no recommendations, didn't even show his face at the cashier just dropped off a pile of papers for her. She said I owed $121. I was confused since I was only expecting to pay for the $29.99 oil change since everything else was related to the recall. She sent me back to Jose. I asked about the charge and he said that was for labor to diagnose what was wrong with the car. I said I thought he was going to do that to see if it was related to the recall. He said no, we talked about this. And I told him that no, we didn't, I definitely would have remembered him telling me it would cost $121 to check the engine light. He told me I was wrong and that he had told me that it would cost that much. I asked if he did the oil change and he said no, I hadn't asked for an oil change. I said we must be remembering different conversations since I definitely asked for an oil change and he definitely didn't tell me there would be a charge for the check engine light. He said fine, his mistake about the oil change, he could add that if I wanted to sit and wait. I asked if that was going to cost $121 too. He said no, it's 29.99 and then started helping the next customer. In addition to all of this, I have also been receiving weird letters from people saying they are Jack Phelan and asking to buy my car, or sending me newspaper clippings for selling my car. When I asked about it at Jack Phelan they said it wasn't from them, but apparently they don't keep their customer list very secret since it had information about my car and services in the letters. Recall was handled quickly and they went and washed the car too- free of charge. They were also very helpful and prompt servicing my car a few months prior when I had issues with it. I took my car to Jack Phelan Chevrolet on July 28th, 2021 to be serviced. On August 2nd, 2021 I received a phone call from the service department. The service department informed me that their auto mechanics went on strike. They went on to say that they did not know how long the strike would last. Upon doing my own research, I discovered that the last mechanics strike was back in 2017 , and it last for seven weeks. I told the service department that I wanted to pick up my car. They told me that I could not pick up my car because it was disassembled. They said that only one of their certified mechanics could reassemble it. Today is the August 24th, 2021. I have called the service department several times not only to express my complete and utter frustration, but to ask for a loaner or rental car. Each time I received the same response, "We do not have a loaner car to give you, and we do not give rental cars to our customers." I have know doubt that the dealership was fully aware of the potential possibility of the mechanics strike. They should of at minimum notified their customers of this and gave them the option of leaving their car to be serviced or reschedule. I of course would not have left my car their to be serviced knowing that a mechanic's strike was a possibility. So as you can see it has almost been a month know since I dropped off me car their for service. I can not afford to rent a car for an indefinite amount of time. The strike is showing no signs of ending soon. All that I ask is that I be given a loaner or rental car till the strike is over and my car is fixed. I don't believe that is to much to ask for. Apparently the dealer does not agree. This is very poor business practice to say the least. I will will make sure that I tell anyone and everyone that I know about my absolute miserable experience. read more

I waited until my last included service before reviewing this dealership. I purchased this car on 12/31/16. It was a new car with 00025mi. Six months later. They give me the car back with 4 missing lugnut caps. I hold off until the next visit since this is minor. About 7500 miles this year After 18 months in the car the rotors look to have scores in them. I am told its rot lot and I should drive it more. I do not agree, & offer that they would be better if he could just lathe the rotors and I will sign-off. They say no. They never leave the car on the 240V charger when its ready. On 12/21 at 7AM was my last appointment for service, and I mention that the rotors again, and that now the tire bead has cracks in them. I believe if I still hand washed my car 6 months ago, I would have noticed those cracks at that time. My adviser is Mike. I wait 1 hour and am called in, and am surprised at how bad the rotors are on the backside. Mike is saying I have to replace them and he is refusing to replace them. We talked for about 10 minutes. Now the rotors are too bad to lathe. I mention that I should not have to pay to replace rotors on a car with 15000 miles and less than 2 years old. Mike says if I like I can talk to Marty in sales and they get in at 9. I should not have to talk to sales about this. I wait another hour. I talk to Marty and explain my position. The key is they sold me a new car, and it is a model year '14 Volt. I have a new purchase with less than 2 years and 15000 miles and it is not reasonable to ask me to replace the tires and rotors. He says- okay, but why are you talking to me about this. We talk/argue for about 20 minutes. I told him that the car didn't move for 3 years and it had an effect on the car being exposed to the environment. Marty says that I do not have an argument, and what I'm asking for is insane. Marty says I am expecting free service after two years. I do not, but I expect the minimum life out of rotors and wheels. He says he has no idea how the car has been driven the last 2 years. Yes, you do, it's been in for service every 6 months. Marty says I knew what I was getting into when I bought the car, but he already said that the car being parked outside in the environment had no effect. Which is it? Service says lot rot, but sales says no such thing as rot lot 6 months later. Which is it? Marty says it's a 5-year-old car, I tell him that I brought this up 6 months ago when I only had it for 18 months. Which is it, a 5-year-old car that's seen all the seasons, or an almost 2-year-old car I've driven? Marty is acting like the cars are stored in an indoor garage for the 3 years it sat on your lot. Marty keeps asking, does driving the car for 2yr/15K have no effect? I never said that. I interjected when he kept trying to make a false claim, don't let him push a bad example on the situation. I explain to him that it's not normal to expect rotors and tires every two years/15K. I say your products last longer than 2 years/15K miles. Marty says- "It's a GM product, it's not our product." WOW Marty calls Mike from service and asks him why the parts are done, right in front of him he says the environment exposure. Don't understand why Mike didn't just service the car in the beginning. This was an exercise in futility. Marty & Mike were not interested in paying, and not interested in holding up the name of the product. Marty walked away & took a call. I waited until he got back off his phone. He says he doesn't know what I want. I requested to get his answer in writing, he declined. I said that I'm not a taxi driver, look at the mileage and the lack of wear on the tread, suspension, and bushings. Marty says the best they can do is give me a discount on service. I decline as this is just an add-on to the price of the car, because these parts should last 2 years, but they are acting like I have owned the car for 5 years. Now it is about 9:30 and Mike asks what I want to do. I said I'm not paying & to reassemble. About 30 later he says your car is ready. The cashier says you owe $30, I explain my services are free. They forgot(!) to do the oil and rotate the whole time I was there. I have to go back to waiting and finally get my car back at noon. It took over 90 mins, I'm not a priority. Again, I ask what the charge is for, Mike says the brakes. I say since you already have the wheels off, I haven't been charged before. This is the fun fact: Mike says that is basically a walk-by inspection, and this is a real inspection where the calipers and rotors come off. You guys could have avoided this situation. This leads me to believe that the tires were not even looked at six months ago and they must have had cracks on the bead them also. He takes the charge off, & says that this is ridiculous. I agree the whole experience was. Five hours & again- lost a lugnut cap. The sales/service award you hang up is from '13, 5 years is a long time ago. What has happened in those 5 years? read more

If my driving experience today is any indication to how the workers treat their vehicles, then people should stay away. Driving to work today, on a 40mph speed limit street, I was going 45mph, and then a red Chrysler sedan with DL plates, being followed by a Black Chevy SUV with DL plates, and Jack Phelan Chevy written all over it, literally, cut me off going at least 60mph and proceeded to weave in and out of traffic on Joliet Road, where the speed limit actually decreases as it continues. as if they were an ambulance headed to an emergency. I think it's safe to say NOTHING a car dealership does that involves driving requires that kind of driving behavior. Is there a minus star option I can select?? We have purchased two new vehicles from Jack Phelps. We were pleased with the automobiles, Chevrolet is a great make. However, the way we were treated today is beyond my comprehension. Due to the fact that we have been loyal customers, I expect to be treated as such. We ran into a problem with our brand NEW Goodyear tires that are on our 2011 Traverse. We went to the dealership since we were guaranteed a 1 year warranty bumper to bumper and to my dismay we were denied service. They state that because the tires are Goodyear they do NOT cover the wheels. WHAT??? I have never heard of such ridiculous terms. I hope and pray that I will never have to step foot in this place again, and I will advise all of my friends and colleagues to avoid this place. I would suggest to the owner to send his staff to an etiquette class and maybe then they will treat their customers with respect. read more

Went in for an Oil Change and as always they talk me into other things to be done to my car and walk out with more problems then I know that I walked in there with ! Walked out with now no air conditioning which when I walked in there I had no problems with it, and of course with that oil change my brakes were not squeaking but I am sure when they did my oil change the tiers are usually rotated. Of course Sunday you are not open and all week my brakes have been squeaking and of course I don't have to leave let alone get my self to work all week without a car. For the air conditioning they said they did not do anything to my air, that I took back not more than an hour after I got the car back form the dealer only because I had my 90 year old mother with me and it was hot that Saturday and try to put the air on and that's when I found out now that did not work when I was with her the previous week and we drove with the air on. Extremely disappointed after Jack Phelan Chevrolet service department misdiagnosed the problem on my Chevy Equinox and wants me to pay for it! I've been a loyal customer since 2004, but this is the epitome of getting ripped off. I took my car in on March 6, 2020 to get a diagnotic check since the car was shaking/ trembling. Diana from the service Department called me the following week to tell me that the problem was related to brakes, spark plugs, etc. and it needed to be flushed out. I agreed then I paid $1,342.86 on March 13, 2013 when I picked up the car. As soon as I drove the car off the lot it started shaking/ trembling the same as when I dropped off the car. I immediately called Diana and returned the Equinox to the service Department where Diana suggested that I turn off the car because of the extreme trembling. The following week Diana calls and says that technician ran another diagnostic check and found the issues related to the trembling. She also stated that it would be an additional $638.00 to fix, but I told her that I already paid for the issues to be resolved. Next, I asked to speak with the manager and never received a call back so I called again on March 31, 2020 and spoke to the service consultant who notified me that Diana was no longer with Jack Phelan. I asked to speak with the manager because my car had been diagnosed and there was no accountability by Jack Phelan Chevrolet. Next, I spoke with Service Director, Rick Hiller and I told him that I got zero value from the $1,342.86. I told him the car was misdiagnosed and asked him to please throw the old parts on the car so that I can trade it in since it's worth less than what I paid for it to get fixed and I will pay the cost of the diagnostic check. If they couldn't do that, I asked if they could hold their technician accountable and fix the problems related to the trembling that I already paid for. I don't know how the service department could allow me to pick up the car and pay that amount when the car was in the same fashion as when I dropped it off. Bottom line is that Jack Phelan service department misdiagnosed the car and wants me to pay for it. Rick Hiller (Service Director) gave me zero options and accepted zero accountability and they have had my car since March! It is now July 20, 2020 and they still have not called or done anything to resolve the matter. I'm obviously not a priority so the car has been just sitting there for over 4 months since they refused to fix the problem or give me a refund after misdiagnosing the problems. read more

I needed a car and I was referred to This Dealership by a friend and I could not have done any better. I was lucky to meet Bill and he took care of finding what I wanted and needed. No pushy sales practices. He was honest, which is hard to find at a car dealership. In fact, both Phelans that I met while there were very good people. Here comes the good part. After I bought my car, a short time later, my daughter needed a car and I took her back to Jack Phelan and Bill. She bought a used Toyota Rav4. 3 months later the trans goes out and the cost of repair is 4,000. We took the Rav4 back to Phelan and Bill and they gave us a trade in for the same price we paid for the Rav4 and my daughter left with a new car. They made good and they made a nightmare into a happy ending. You can't beat Jack Phelan as far as I am concerned. read more

Today I had my vehicle serviced at this dealership. Upon receiving my car and pulling away I check for my sunglasses. They are gone. $300 Pradas. I call the service department and let them know one of there employees stole my sunglasses. I go back and the service associates ask a couple people but no one comes forward. They really didn't try hard to find out who took them except for one person that assured me he will check the cameras. Jose still hasn't called me back with his findings. It's my fault for leaving them in there but there mechanics have no reason to go through all of my compartments. There intentions were to steal cause my sunglasses were put away in a compartment. I did call the police but that wasn't any help. Just remember when you go to Jack Phelan on Harlem. Take your valuables out of your car. Someone will steal it. I spent $300 for service and someone stole $300 from me. Bad day read more

It was time for me to get an oil change so I took my car to my dealership and I told Jose that I wanted an oil change and he asked me was that it I said yes and to make sure to check the tire pressure. He tells me that my warranty was up and that the price was $330 but he can knock $10 off with a coupon I wasn't understanding why an oil change would be $300 so I made a call and was informed this should only be about $30-$50 but yet I was not given any other options or prices. So I went back up to the counter to tell him that I don't know what else you're trying to get done to my car but I don't want it I just want an oil change like I said before and Jose tells me that they're already working on your car. So basically you're charging me for other things that I didn't even ask for....stay away from Jose in the service department and this dealership altogether!! read more
