Jolver was very upfront about what was going on, and how long it was going to take. Problem was electrical and took some time to diagnose, but Jolver got the job done and I'm back to having my SoCal convertible on the road. Have only had the one job so far, but the price seemed more than fair. I won't take my car anywhere else! I've had my Mercedes c-250 serviced here multiple times and always leave knowing I got a great service and a great price. I drive 1 1/2 hours to come here because I refuse to take me car to any other shop! This was the only place I could get a walk in oil change (excluding Jiffy Lube and the sort, of course) and everything went great. Price was exactly what he guesstimated over the phone and they diagnosed my check engine light and fixed it (only a bad gas cap seal, but still) free of charge. And even though I still have warranty and knew I wouldn't get the work done there, he still looked up notices for my car to show my SA at the dealer. He's also very knowledgeable about German cars; I'm a BMW guy but he knew Mercedes extra well. Chatted about cars for the whole duration of the oil change. We have an old model Mercedes SUV. It has had the "check engine" popping on an off for months but we haven't had the time or means to get it looked at. We are due to have a smog check this registration year and finally were able to drop it off with Jerry at Star to check out. I really was fearing the worst and had braced myself for impact. They took a look at it and discovered the spark plug wires were original/ OLD changed them out and then took it to get it smogged for us! "it passed with flying colors" When I dropped it off I had told Jerry about all the weird things it had been doing and kind of game him carte blanche. I told him "I want to feel safe to actually drive it again. When I picked it up yesterday he assured me that after taking care of this single item it was ready to go and safe to take driving! Jerry and his crew are great. I have a 20-year-old Mercedes that no one in North County San Diego (except the Dealership, maybe...) was able to help me. I called mechanics around and they referred me to one person that specializes in older models. He had it for several weeks and nothing. He couldn't figure out what was wrong and suggested a service that's beyond the car's worth. I remember Jerry in San Marcos because he had worked on my first BMW. I went to Star AutoHaus as my last resort to get my ride fixed or sell it. To be fair, Jerry also took a bit of time to figure out what was wrong. For me, it was the conversation that I had that he wouldn't give up until he can figure it out. I think that this type of approach is welcoming to future customers because he cares about the vehicle and, it shows that he's willing to put the effort into finding a solution. I'm the same way in my profession so I was happy to see that he is the same. Initially, I worked on the car myself and changed all the parts e.g. spark plugs and wires, coils, and even the injector that was causing the Check Engine light. So, coming in, I knew it was something more than the basics. I know how time-consuming it is to eliminate each possible cause so the time he spent trying to do the same is an illustration of what kind of service you'll be getting under his care of your vehicle. I know that he had spent above and beyond the hours to get to a solution. I truly appreciate that. The cost of the transaction is more than fair for the service that I experienced. The work that he and his crew did to my car was thoroughly explained which gave me the confidence that the service was exceptional and driven with a goal to solve the issues the car had. I don't know much about how the schedule of the cost that mechanics or in this case, a specialist would incur in doing their business but, I can assure everyone that Jerry's expertise and knowledge about the vehicle's proper engineering did not show up in the bill. Lastly, he's a good guy. When you're on the same side with your mechanic in terms of your goal as an owner with regards to cost, quality, and service experience, it sits pretty good as a customer. I believe that this alone should be a reason to give Jerry and his crew the opportunity to earn your business. For a regular guy that can't afford much and shouldn't be driving luxury vehicles at all, it's a great comfort to have Jerry to call on when things don't go well with your car. Final point, I've been there, looking for a good and fair mechanic, call these guys. I'm not saying don't call others but, I think you'll find that these guys will be on your side in what you ultimately want to achieve. That's it - all the best. read more

I had my car towed to Star AutoHaus because it was suggested by the tow truck driver and it was close to my house. My car was overheating from moderate driving and upon googling the symptoms I discovered that it was likely the water pump which tends to fail around 80k miles. Star AutoHaus diagnoses the problem and gives me a quote for a water pump and thermostat replacement that was on the high end according to the bimmer threads I was researching. Thus, like most smart shoppers, I started calling around for additional quotes at other local shops (with stellar reviews) to make sure I was getting a fair price. Upon calling other shops, I received a quote that was cheaper than Star's quote by about $75 and asked Star if they can price match. The person at Star (whom I presumed was the owner of the shop) became very UNPROFESSIONAL when I asked about price matching and said "Pick up your car!" before hanging up on me. I was shocked that anyone in their right mind would run a business this way. It was a difference of $75. If you can't price match, just tell me you can't. No need to be a jerk about it! In my past experience, every shop that I have ever called was either able to price match or cordially declined. I was not only disturbed by the shop's handling of the situation, but due to the rude nature of the owner I began to have anxiety that my car might be tampered with before I had it picked up. I'm not accusing Star of doing this, but who wouldn't wonder if they were put in this situation? On the positive side, Star AutoHaus' unprofessionalism ended up saving me close to $300 because I found an even better quote at a more reputable shop. Unless you want to deal with a shop that charges higher prices and sorely lacks customer service, I'd steer clear of Star AutoHaus. read more

DO NOT GO HERE. This is the first negative review I have ever left on Yelp. But I couldn't in good conscience let others go down the same rabbit hole I did. Although the warning signs were there before, in that actual costs always came in far above their quote, I continued to use Star because I have always liked independent mechanics as opposed to dealers. And ultimately it came down to "better the devil you know than the devil you don't". However this latest episode went too far. I took my MB in for the 78,000 mile service and Jerry didn't seem to know what was required. He said he would look it up. Against my better judgment, I also mentioned I was having a steering issue too. I should have waited to see first if they could have diagnosed it while doing the required Service 2 and 3. Of course, they came back and said I needed to replace the rack and pinon to the tune of $1,400. In my haste to correct the problem I accepted the diagnosis and replaced it only to have the same issue still. To that he said it must be the pump so that will be another $500. I was pissed to say the least and hung up. He called back and said he would buy the part and I pay for the labor. Again, in my haste and wanting the problem to be solved I agreed to bring it in. Of course, when I came to pick it up he charged me for the part "because it cost more than he expected". What a guy. Now, I am officially done with Star and hope all of you heed my warning, as Jerry seems to have one foot out the door and is just cashing in until the other foot follows. It's too bad, as I am a loyal customer (see how many times I returned to Star) to those that deserve it and like I said I usually move on from bad experiences without leaving reviews.
