I love Jack's. Whenever I am in Nashville I stop in to eat, including driving to and from the airport. The line moves fast, and people don't seem to realize there is an additional area to sit upstairs as well as outside. My favorite spot to plop down and stuff my face is right in front of the windows overlooking Broadway on the top floor. I like that they cut the turkey thick, its not thin sliced and you can really mop up on of their 6 sauces with it. My other go to meat is the brisket, which you can almost never go wrong with. For sides, the beans are excellent, the green beans are consistent (and make you feel less guilty about everything else you are consuming). The mac and cheese isn't anything extraordinary, but I am not really a fan of mac and cheese, I was hoping Jack's would change my mind. read more

Nashville for the day and Jack's Bar-B-Que was recommended for great BBQ in Nashville. It was everything I expected with the brick walls, country and Tennessee sports memorabilia, red plastic table cloths, wooden benches, lit up signs and country music, except there was no country music!!!! That was pretty disappointing considering we were in Music City USA! A tennis match was playing on the tv of all things. Okay, so I'll get past the country music, I'm not a huge country music fan to begin with... Thankfully, we beat the lunch rush, we walked right up to the counter and ordered off the lit billboard above. Everything is cafeteria style and they dish it up as you walk through and pay. By the time we sat down, there was nearly a line out the door of tourists and locals alike. There is a station of a variety of BBQ sauces ranging from sweet and savory to spicy! I tried them all and they were all VERY good. I ordered the brisket sandwich with macaroni and cheese and baked beans as my two sides, it was all very tasty, not the best BBQ I had ever had, but good enough I would recommend to someone else. As I sat down to checkin on here and upload a picture of my platter before devouring it, I saw the offer for a free bottle of their rub with checkin! The employee at the register was super nice when I walked back up to claim my free bottle, sometimes employees can be annoyed or make it a hassle, that wasn't the case here, so don't forget to check in and claim your free bottle! Overall, it was a fun atmosphere with good food and good service, great people watching and lots of random local and country music themed memorabilia on the walls. The ribs were disappointing. They were hard and dry. I expected better ribs in Nashville. The problem is this place is in a very high traffic area so they will always have high foot traffic no matter how mediocre the food. As a general rule, restaurants in high foot traffic areas tend to have mediocre food. The spicy sauce is actually pretty good, but not good enough to offset the mediocre ribs. read more

Very nice place right down on the strip of Nashville. Our family of 4 ate for $35! Got a family pack for $27 and then drinks. The bbq was smoky and good. The mild sauce was sweet, but I preferred the original. Nice kick and a little thinner. We got mac-n-cheese and potato salad for sides. Very good! Cornbread was nice and sweet. When I arrived the line was just at the door. Took about 15 minutes to get to the front. It was worth the wait. The staff was very efficient. I ordered the pork shoulder plate with macaroni and cheese and cole slaw. The plate comes with two vegetables which just means two sides. All of the food was great. The meat was tender, coleslaw was tangy, and couldn't resist Nashville 's favorite vegetable, the Mac and cheese. The Tennessee vinegar based bbq sauce was my favorite, followed by the hot Texas tomato based sauce. Thinly sliced cornbread added to the carbo loading. The ribs were just okay... i certainly smoke better myself... i know they should actually fall off the bone as that is a sign of an overcooked rib, but they were not juicy! First off, know that this is a paper plate place. You go through the line, get your food from the guy behind the counter and go sit down wherever. Oh yeah, and they have shiner beer... The brisket has pretty awesome smoky flavor and while it doesn't melt in your mouth, it has a great consistency without being tough. The mild Tennessee sweet bbq sauce is my favorite, but there was also a tomato based spicy "Texan" sauce, and a Memphis vinegar sauce that pretty much covers the sauce preferences. Baked beans are made right, with extra brown sugar, the potato salad has mustard like it's supposed to, and the apples are not canned and not sickeningly sweet. Bread that comes with it is almost a cake like texture, it's almost a side in itself( goes great with the bbq sauce). To top it off, its cheap and close to the convention center. There was no line because we were there on a Tuesday at 3.30 pm, but I can totally envision a packed house on weekends. Also I tried like 7 sides. Delicious Bar-b-que! We did the hop on, hop off bus tour and they said this place and Martin's would be the two best BBQ spots in town. We tried both and we feel there is no comparison, Jack's was much better! The pork shoulder at Jack's was absolutely amazing! I loved the pieces of fully cooked skin throughout it and the flavor and juiciness of the pork shoulder. The ribs were very good but I feel could have been a bit meatier. The brisket had incredible flavor but also seemed a little dry for my liking. Sides wise, the mac n cheese is very good and has a nice creaminess to it. The baked beans were outrageous and frankly some of the best I ever had! The mashed potatoes were good not great and the corn was delicious. I'm not a big cornbread fan but my wife enjoyed it and said it was good. Overall, I enjoyed everything we tried and would definitely go back next time I'm in town.
