The ribs were just okay... i certainly smoke better myself... i know they should actually fall off the bone as that is a sign of an overcooked rib, but they were not juicy! Pork shoulder was dry, sausage was good, but something you could buy at the store. Mac and cheese was very bland. I tried the "TX" Brisket.. and it isn't even close to the brisket I have had in Lockhart TX at Blacks... NOT EVEN CLOSE. I asked for a fatty cut of brisket as that is generally the juiciest. .. Although it wasn't dry... The slice was way to large and really didn't have the flavor you would expect. First off, know that this is a paper plate place. You go through the line, get your food from the guy behind the counter and go sit down wherever. Oh yeah, and they have shiner beer... The brisket has pretty awesome smoky flavor and while it doesn't melt in your mouth, it has a great consistency without being tough. The mild Tennessee sweet bbq sauce is my favorite, but there was also a tomato based spicy "Texan" sauce, and a Memphis vinegar sauce that pretty much covers the sauce preferences. Baked beans are made right, with extra brown sugar, the potato salad has mustard like it's supposed to, and the apples are not canned and not sickeningly sweet. Bread that comes with it is almost a cake like texture, it's almost a side in itself( goes great with the bbq sauce). To top it off, its cheap and close to the convention center. There are also chicken, turkey, sausage, and pork shoulder options. Plates come with 2 veggies. "Veggie" choices include potato salad, cole slaw, Mac and cheese, baked beans, cinnamon apples, and yes an actual vegetable: green beans. Hubby loved the baked beans with a hint of molasses and spice. We both enjoyed the creamy Mac and cheese. The mustardy potato salad was good as well. Here it is folks, my first visit to Nashville and the chance to try BBQ in the south for the first time. Since it seems nearly impossible to find a brisket in Michigan that isn't a dried out mess, I made it a goal in this trip to give it a try where it surely will knock my socks off. Looking online it seemed that Jack's is a Nashville favorite in BBQ, sitting in the top section of nearly every list, so that is where I went. Pulling up to the cafeteria style lineup, I immediately spotted what I had to have, the combo plate. I chose the brisket, ribs, and smoked chicken for the three meats. For sides, I went with the mac & cheese and the coleslaw. A slice of pecan pie rounded it out. The man behind the counter pulled a foil wrapped brisket out of the storage behind him and proceeded to cut several large slices from the black-crusted/meaty-inside bundle of goodness. On the plate they went. Then he pulled a leg and thigh chunk of smoked chicken and added it on. Next to join the meat was four or five bones of glistening rib. I couldn't wait. At some point after that I requested the mac & cheese, coleslaw, pie, and worked with the cashier, but those transactions were lost to memory as I stood transfixed with that pile of protein mix. My brisket apex was upon me... I had waited months since I heard I was headed to Nashville for this moment. The chance to have that juicy, amazing brisket of the likes I had only seen on TV. I tried the first bite - It was dry. The damn brisket was dry. I tried another bite and another bite, all dry. What a disappointment. Deflated, I pressed on. The chicken was pretty good, the mac & cheese was pretty good, the coleslaw was pretty good, but then came the ribs. The ribs were out of this world. It occurred to me afterword that I never added any sauce to those ribs (never needed to) as they were probably the best ribs I have ever eaten. Perfect meaty and fatty rib flavor, smoked, glazed, superb. Those things made up for the brisket and along with the blissful pie, they saved the day. read more

Now, I eat a lot of bbq (and do a lot of it myself) so it's one subject that I can get a bit opinionated on. My experience is that Jack's is a great value and is pretty good. I wouldn't say it's great bbq, but good. I ordered a combo of pulled pork pork ribs, brisket and a couple of sides for like $16 or $17. That's a crazy good value and it was decent. I'm not really sure as the menu wasn't to clear. I was leaning toward the fudge pie, but then the cashier mentioned that she didn't like the cheese pie because it tasted like an egg-custard. DING DING DING! I was sold. The "egg-custard" was awesome. The pork was great as well. Everything was moist with only a few crispy pieces and I really in enjoyed the sauces. When we first walked it we were really worried because the place was packed and we had a large group (15+). Luckily when we went upstairs there was plenty of seating room. Solid BBQ joint. The ribs are my favorite. Got the 3 meat combo wit two sides and went with ribs, pork shoulder and beef brisket. Sides were Mac and cheese and baked beans. There was a line (good sign) but it moved quickly. They have five sauces to choose from and all tended to be tangy with vinegar. The ribs fell off the bone but went too fatty. The brisket and pork were a little dry but still enjoyable. PRO TIP: sit upstairs by the big windows were it's less crowded and watch the crowds on Broadway. read more

Our food was sitting in some type of cleaning fluid or fire starter. The Ribs Only. I am curious as to why one waits for an hour to get in to get food like this. In the end the food ended in the garbage and we ate elsewhere. The ribs were fatty and had an element on them. The pulled pork was decent, but nothing to wait for. Don't be fooled by the long wait and the lines out the door. After driving 7 hours to Nashville for a convention, I was eager to try local barbecue food. This placed was packed and a long line out the entrance attracted our attention. After spending 20 minutes in line and spending 30 dollars on some ribs and chicken we finally sat down to eat. The chicken was flavorless, not cooked fully and my side of Mac and cheese tasted like a homemade microwaveable entree. I picked around at my chicken before giving up as the chicken was not fully cooked. Entrees range in price but most are around 15 dollars. Plates come with 2 side choices ranging from steamed vegetables to Mac and cheese. Not worth the hype and definitely not worth the food quality. Sadly l would not recommend. read more

The sides were on point and service was good. My sister was with me from out of state and enjoyed it as well. We tried just about all the sides between our orders.
