My name is Jack so that is always the initial attraction as I am not a surfer guy. But for some strange reason I do really like walking around with my name on my cap, t-shirt and drink bottle. That aside, I do enjoy some of the range here. I like some of the clothing line and extras they have in the cabinets. I wonder if they have different people designing their range as some stuff looks awesome and then other designs aren't too great. The plus side is the good designs are really good and I tend to return everytime I am in Newport to buy something. I just seen on here that they do surf lessons as well so maybe I will do this with them and see if I can improve. Next time I'm in Newport I will probably give this a go. Kind of cool that a surf clothing shop is legit enough to do lessons too. Shows they are true to the surfing culture. read more

If you're looking to pick up clothes or know what you're looking for, you should be all good. If your a newb to surfing and need guidance and info, this may not be the best place to start. The people are not rude, and they generally only know the basics, like inventory 101. Great surf shop with the usual surfer gear. You'll find a good selection of girls, kids, and mens clothing at the prices you'd find just about anywhere else. What i really like about this one is the fact that it's not so overcrowded with tourists hoping to buy their nephew lil' Johnny from Iowa that really hip shirt with the wave on it. Gimme a break. I recently visited and had a great shopping experience. First, I needed help looking for something for my 13 yr. old daughter. I asked for help since I knew I was out of my league. The girl who helped me was awesome. We decided on sandals and she found 3 options. My daughter loved the ones we chose. Thank God! My experience was so good in the clothing store that I returned 2 days later to buy some fins in the surf shop. One salesman saw what I chose and asked a few questions. Next thing I know, I'm buying a different set of fins except the Orange Dots. We'll see how these DaFins turn out. My point, I had another great shopping experience. Now, I read some of the negative reviews. And I want to be clear, I asked for help. I didn't wait for someone to come to me to see how I was doing. I actually get kinda taken back when I get approached too quickly as I'm burning a lap in the store. I like to look around without being bothered. Here's my advice to the complainers. If you want help, ask for it. Don't wait, as the young staff might be thinking about how young they really are and how much fun they're going to have that night. In the world of retail, surf shop's seem to have some of the worst customer service ever...because most of the kids who work in them are surfer's first and really don't care about you or your retail habits, HOWEVER there are a few shops where the kids get some sales training...Jack's is one of those places where more than half of the time I have had positive interactions, this store has all your surf needs, a bunch of boogie boards, clothes, shoes, over a hundred clear shortboards of all different sizes and shapes. A rack of 30+ longboards of all shapes and sizes, accessories, videos, and a good sale rack out front. Definitely one of the shops I visit regularly, along with Huntington Surf and Sport. You still get an experience every now and again with a grom who is too cool to serve you...what is a surf shop without a little attitude here and there. Sidenote - Damn I wish it was winter, looking for 8+ Blacks, glassy with barrels that you can drive your VW bus through...Zooport is in full effect in June. read more

You know when someone just makes you feel REALLY horrible about spending money somewhere, after checking out? Yea.. that's how I felt leaving Jack's in Newport after buying clothes for my kids. Not a single acknowledgment from the cashier, no eye contact as they handed the bags stuffed with items, not one Thank You, Thanks for coming in, have a good day.. nothing. Just.. "hands me bag" as I say Thank you... not a word back. Doesn't even look at me. But plenty of conversation between the 2 employees as they rang me up. I feel like a idiot for spending my hard earned money there, for even thinking that maybe they would appreciate my business?? I recently moved to the area and heard about this place being the go-to for sandals and other "cool" clothing items etc. The selection is great for sure. I looked around the mens stuff on one visit with a friend and thought they had really nice stuff for guys at decent prices for a more boutique style setting. I wasn't purchasing anything so I didn't pay attention to customer service.. though I don't recall being greeted or asked if I needed anything- could just be bad memory. However, today I went to the women's store to purchase a pair of sandals. I walk in, one girl looks up at me, says nothing. The other can't be bothered to look up from her phone. I'm looking for Rainbows and am visibly, actively searching for something. They have 4 or 5 areas with sandals and it took me a few minutes to locate them. Not once during this time did someone ask if I needed help, was looking for something, not a word. I would even pass workers on my hunt and they wouldn't even make eye contact. While I was there, there were no less than 6 opportunities for someone to offer help or even say hello as I passed them or was in their vicinity... only one person finally greeted me and asked if I needed something. At this point, my experience was already solidified (and I had already found the damn sandals anyway) so her kindness wasn't enough to salvage the experience. Even the checkout experience (same girl who looked at me in silence when I entered) was stiff and rude. I asked her how her day was... curt response from her, no engagement whatsoever. There were several times where I just looked around and shook my head because I seriously could not believe the lack of customer service in this place. Someone else on here suggested another place for similar items nearby so in the future, I will go there. I can buy $50 flip flops from someone who will smile at me. read more

On a Saturday afternoon I was shopping around and then I seen a sale sign up on jack surfboard shop . I immediately thought lets go and see . I walk in and i say "Hello !" to the cashier and a sales person doing nothing but standing around and no hello back .I replied to myself with a "I guess you don't greet customers !" And still not a peep from them . I was so mad that racism exists in these times .I called the manager and he never even called me back .i had to call him back and he started fussing and arguing about me being racist WOW! I bought a wetsuit here and it only took one surf session on the same day I bought it for a big rip along the seams to occur. I took it back the same day only the hear that they would have to send it back to O'Neill to get it fixed.. I asked how long until I get it back and the sales person said about a month... That means I can't surf though the winter session for a month? I guess ill just spend more money to buy the glue to patch it up. Good selection of clothing and surf stuff. The fitting rooms are a bit small, which makes for a very interesting session of trying on wet suits cramped in such a tiny space...but, it's all good. The women's clothing selection is good. The Jacks in Dana Point has a larger section for women, but I usually end up finding more things that I like and in my size at the NB location. read more

SOOPER RAD STAFFF . THE staff here is super cool man, this is wut I like coming too when I wanna talk to some SUPER BROS about surfing. I used to sponge and the people here convinced me otherwise and I got myself on a surfboard and I have been surfing since. The managers here are wonderful, and like I said the staff here are very helpful. The manager Greg was super nice when I needed help on finding a pair of some surfing fins. They have good clothes here but very expensive compared to HSS which has the same clothes. One RVCA jacket I purchased at HSS was $11 more at Jacks. The service is not great either. I always have to find the long stick to get the clothes down from the top while the employees talk to each other. I understand if it is busy, but if we are the only 2 people in the store and both of you look at me grab the stick to get the clothes down and don't offer to help is a liability waiting to happen. read more
