I don't know what rating to give this. From the dogS' standpoint I would give it a one. If it weren't for the dogs and feeling bad for their lives I would give it a four for the scenery and unique experience. Considering the staff I would give it a two. So I settled for a three. Given the way the dogs are bred, Live, and are treated I wouldn't go back. The staff were nice but so incredibly disorganized that our group of guests Had many a good laugh. That was all we could do as we watched them sort things out. We were pulled by the dogs about 6 miles out to our endpoint where we had a great lunch and swam in the Hot Springs. We were able to ride in the sled and/or drive to sled. It was a great experience and the scenery was overwhelmingly beautiful. The trail that we took was heavily trafficked by crazy snowmobilers. They were very disruptive to the tranquility of the trip!!! This activity is pricey! read more

Dog sledding was on my bucket list for years. I came specificallly to Jackson WY (after waiting several years for timeshare opening) to dog sled. I feel so fortunate this company had space for me (only a single woman) with relatively short notice (about 2 weeks) cos that Contiinental Divide company was full for weeks in advance, and I am still on the waiting list. They picked me up at 8:15 am at my Jackson Pines timeshare 50 Millward St. Takes 40 min to drive to Frank's kennels. I was somewhat surprised to see the dogs lives their lives in the snow, tied on 6 foot lead. Another Yelp review gave 1 star because reviewer felt the dogs were treated miserably. It is the same scene as the Humane Society plea for support, showing dogs tied to a doghouse in the snow. with head hanging, looking miserable. But these dogs didn't have their heads hanging, they were jumping, soooo excitedly. Yapping, howling concert, the calcaphoney was horrendous.! They always have something to look forward to, like being harnessed to pull the sled, and coming back to "dinner" of raw chicken, kibble and when it is really cold, chicken fat. The only time the dogs are silent, is when they are pulling the sled, cos it is what they wanna do and they are doing it! Frank equips us with snow boots that are super comfy and have a thick bootie liner. My sled musher was Julie. It is her first season doing this. She said when she saw the job notice, "Sled dog guide", she thought REALLY? I could get paid for that??? Frank even provides their lodging, after all the place is not at all close to town, and they work full days, 6 days a week. I sat in the sled, wrapped in a sleeping bag, siging up, like i was in my hospital bed. Other people can chose to stand on the back of the sled and help the driver with braking, etc. Took 2 full hours to dogsled to the hot springs because we took 2 long breaks to give the dogs a rest. Otherwise I was told it takes 1.5 hours. It is 10 miles to the hot springs. The women have one communal dressing room, men have one on the opposite side. We walk on salted stairs and on wooden deck to get to the hot sprinigs (not in the snow with our bare feet). Hot springs has a bit of a small waterfall where the water enters into what really looks like swimming pool with wooden instead orf concrete deck. It is really hot where the waterfall is. We are allowed 45 min in there, but most get out earlier. I figure it would take me 15 min to put all those 5 - 6 layers of my clothing back on. We have hot brie rounds with apple slices, and crackers as appetizer. The dog sled outfitters keep the propane stove and grill there and have apermit for that and the picnic tables we eat at. Then they they serve us homemade chili made by Frank's finance and hot cornbread for lunch. The chili was quite spicy, maybe too spicy for some people who kept saying how spicy it was, who don't eat spicy . I eat spicy, but I felt the chili had too much cumin in it, and others nodded in agreement, But the chili was full of ground beef and tomatoes, and it was temperature HOT! Dogsledding back seemed to take only an hour. I am not sure, too layered up to find my watch. But it is also downhill. Guide Julie was GREAT, always asking if I am OK, and if she can get me anything I might need, If I am happy with my place in the sled, or if I wanna trade with someone. Soon we are back to hot chocolate and tea in the office at 4:30. Well worth the $400 for the day.. Frank was excited to introduce his finance to me, and tells her to look at my fingers and what's around my neck, because she loves jewelry and crystals. I tell her that I just spent 8 days at the Tucson Gem show in Feb. My neck pendant was made in India, has lapis and other stone inlay. And I have colored diamond rings on my fingers. She shows me an ivory scrimshaw necklace that Frank bought her when he was last in Alaska (where he did the Iditarod). I had a great day, and now I have that bucket list item DONE. Absolutely the worst experience of my entire life!!! They had me share a small rail with a very overweight and rude instructor. They never swapped places. The dogs went very, very slow. You can walk faster. The bossy ride instructor was hitting the poor tired dogs. I was so horrified I could not experience the hot springs and had to be taken back on a snow mobile in tears . After the horrific experience that the owner accepted responsibility yet, he denied giving me a refund!!! That is very low class. I'm fighting with my bank now. Very greedy. I do not recommend it at all!!!! read more

Literally the best part of our entire trip. Rachel, our musher was wonderful. Our dogs, Porthos, Bronco, Brownie and Darby (to name a few of the goodest puppers) absolutely loved their jobs and did great! The views were breathtaking, the hot springs was super neat and the lunch (hot chocolate, apple cider, Brie cheese with apples & crackers and chili) made the entire trip even better. I really didn't know what to expect here but I am beyond impressed. We were picked up at our hotel in Downtown Jackson Hole and transported ~45 min to the remote home of Frank and his Jackson Hole Iditarod team. Frank did just as he promised and "got right to the point" so he could help us get out on the sleds as fast as possible. After a brief overview from Frank, we were introduced to our guide, Annie. She was an absolute dream. It was such a joy to watch her take care of her dog team. I am usually very anxious and stressed if I don't have an exit plan or am stuck doing an activity too long, but the full day trip out to the hot spring sounded worth the risk. The truth is, I have never been so relaxed and at peace. The dogs pulled us through the snowy back country while Annie gave us background on the team dynamics and life of the dog team. The dip in the hot spring and the delicious and hearty, campfire lunch was so rewarding too. This was the highlight of our trip and can see why this was a heavily sought after activity with a long waitlist. I think we booked it about 6 months ahead of time. This is a long review, so here are the highlights: - adorable, friendly dogs, many of whom have actually run the Iditarod - friendly, knowledgeable guides - opportunity to drive the sled yourself - FULL DAY TOUR ONLY - time to relax in the hot springs, and a hot, hearty lunch; don't forget your swimsuit!! This was an experience not to be missed. I called to book directly with JH Iditarod Sled Dog Tours and the entire process went very smoothly (so I can't speak to the previous reviewer's complaint). I called about 10 days in advance and the full day tours were already sold out! :( However, the woman I spoke to (Glenna?) was very sweet and said she could waitlist me, so I booked the half day tour (it was made very clear to me that the half day tour wouldn't go to the springs) and waitlisted me for the full day. They took half of the cost on a credit card over the phone as a deposit and had me send them the address where I was staying so that they could arrange transportation. Transportation arrived on time with a large van driven by a very courteous man who pointed out wildlife, avalanche paths, and random points of interest along the way. When we arrived, I found out to my delight that the other people in my group were a family with 3 small children, so they were able to go with one guide (normally they only take 4 to a sled) and I got a guide all to myself - which meant that we were able to do basically whatever I wanted, including taking the full day tour to the hot springs! AWESOME. Due to airline shenanigans, a lot of my gear didn't make it to Jackson with me, but JH Sled Dogs had plenty for me to borrow - hats, gloves, snow pants, boots, goggles, the works - you name it, they had it. I suited up and headed out with my guide, May, who was absolutely fantastic. She knew her dogs so well and once we got going, she was able to answer all my questions. You could lay in the basket or stand on the back with your guide, so of course I stood on the back the whole time :) The ride out to the hot springs was gorgeous, and the hot springs were not to be missed. The full day tour was significantly more expensive than the half day tour, but I absolutely recommend it, as the hot springs are worth it. For the ladies - don't forget to bring a swimsuit! The hot springs are run by someone else and they had swimsuits for rent, but they basically rent (after washing!) what people leave there. Which apparently means a lot of men's swim trunks and no ladies' swimsuits. I went in wearing a shirt and rented swim trunks, because I was not about to sit that one out. While I enjoyed the springs, the guides prepared a hot lunch, which we ate outside under some trees while the snow fell. It was rustic and wonderful, and the food was excellent too. They started us off with hot brie, crackers, and apple slices, and then lunch was a very hearty beef stew in bread bowls, with plenty to go around for seconds. They also brought hot drinks - hot chocolate, cider, and I think coffee and maybe tea. For dessert, they had huckleberry-filled chocolates, which were decadent. Once we were stuffed (and had stuffed some chocolates in our pockets), they hooked up the dogs and we headed back. May made sure that we stopped along the way in a good spot to take some pictures, and she answered the rest of my questions as we went. As we neared the end of the trip, Mother Nature had one more trick up her sleeve which made my day particularly exciting. Since it was just the two of us on the sled and we had 10 dogs pulling, we were moving pretty fast and were in front of everyone else. It snowed all day and the path along the sidehill leading back to the lodge had been covered over in snow, making it impassable for the dogs. I was tasked to stand on the brakes while May enlisted the help of some snowmobilers to clear enough of the path that the dogs could pass. It was a bit of an adventure and made me feel like I'd really had an authentic experience! :) Once we got back I had a chance to play with the dogs and take a few more pictures. They offered us more hot drinks as we shucked off our snowy clothes, and after we tipped our guides very generously (!!HINT HINT!!) the same shuttle returned us safely to our points of origin. I can't recommend this tour enough - yes, it's expensive, but it was worth every penny and then some. The dogs were wonderful, the guides were super knowledgeable and friendly, lunch was hot and delicious, and the hot springs were a lovely destination. read more

Hello, I WOULD GIVE ZERO STARS IF POSSIBLE. I HAVE BEEN LAUGHED AT AND HUNG UP ON WHILE TRYING TO GET A $760 DEPOSIT BACK. THEY ARE HOLDING MY MONEY HOSTAGE. I HAVE CALLED SEVERAL TIMES AND ASKED TO SPEAK WITH THE OWNER, NEVER ONE CALL BACK. THERE IS A WORLD WIDE PANDEMIC... I CANNOT EVEN GET TO WY! As you know, the United States has been hit with a very serious pandemic that is causing a lot of changes very quickly. I am unable to leave Chicago due to the city being on lockdown. I had planned an amazing trip to Jackson hole, yet have had to cancel due to flights being canceled and ski resorts being closed. Part of my plan while visiting was to attend the Jackson Hole Iditarod Sled Dog Tour. While rearranging my plans, I have hit several bumps in the road with the company withholding funds and not following through with their guidelines for refunds due to this national crisis. I do have to say that I was offered the opportunity to reschedule for next season. I would be happy to reschedule with this company as I still would love to dogsled next time I'm in WY. However, I lost my job, just like MANY others during this pandemic and I need the $760 to ensure that I can survive until this passes. I would have been more than willing rebook with them in the future, until this situation. I have placed a deposit of $760.00. While reaching out to resolve this, I have been hung up on, refused answers, and treated with the utmost disrespect. I called my friend who lives in the city and she said you're not allowed to be within 6ft of someone. The woman I spoke with on the phone for this company said that rule doesn't apply here. So I was lied to. She also keeps telling the owner of the company is "unavailable" and I have called Monday, Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday the day of my reservation. She also LAUGHED at me for telling her I will wait to talk to him. I asked her to have him call me back each time I have spoken with her on the phone and have not ONCE received a call back. I have never dealt with a business that did not empathetically explain this process or give me answers while withholding MY money. I wanted to make sure others are aware of this, as I am sure others are experiencing the same issue. As a tourist, I believe it is important to recognize the amount of people that support your economy but are experiencing this unprofessional and inconsiderate business in accommodating guests especially during a time where citizens are unemployed. I lost my job due to this pandemic and could really use my deposit back, as I am not sure when I will have my job back or even be able to travel to WY. Anyone thinking about going, I would HIGHLY reconsider it. I would NEVER recommend anyone to this business, especially with the way I have been treated during a LOCKDOWN. read more

What a fantastic experience this was! It was worth every penny! My boyfriend and I took the full day trip to the Hot Springs during our trip to Jackson last month and it was probably the coolest thing we've ever done/will ever do. Starting with my first call to the office to book our trip I knew it would be great, the woman in the office was very patient with my many questions and gave me several helpful hints about what to bring and how to dress that made for a great experience on the day of our trip. Our guide was fantastic she was very personable and shared a lot of great tips about the area with us. The views along the way were incredible and we were able to take tons of great photos, there was also a photographer along the trail and I was able to purchase photos from him after the fact. The hot springs were great and we had plenty of time to warm up, swim and relax, even our camp style lunch was great the chili was delicious and the staff was very accommodating. I'd like to shout out to the whole team at the JH Iditarod Sled Dog Tours, there was no power in the village on the day of our tour and also no power at their facility, the whole town was sort of scrambling and there were lots of road closures. The tour group was very communicative the day of and called a few times to let us know where and when they'd be arriving to pick us up, they even made the best of having no power at the office and worked out some make shift bathroom and payment options for us. I truly couldn't recommend this enough, if you're on the fence I say go for it! read more

What a once in a lifetime chance it was to actually be on a sled being pulled by true sled dogs on the side of a Wyoming mountain. You are truly immersed in nature while appreciating the incredible strength and work ethic is these amazing dogs. You go out in teams of 4 plus a guide. We were pulled by 12 highly driven dogs. They pull two sleds behind them tandem. Which I was not expecting. The second sled was tethered to the first sled by what I imagine was a very strong rope. The key is to keep the rope between the first and second sled taught while the dogs mush along. And the key for the dogs is to have a strong, focused leader, which our team did! Ultimately the most important team member was our guide Cheyanne. She was stupendous on explaining to us what to be prepared for and what to do. She was extremely proactive, so we were truly prepared for whatever we came upon on the trail. We did a full day trip which consisted of sledding out 10 miles to a hot spring. We then were able to change to bathing suits in either a men's or woman's changing room. The hot spring at the source was 118* of pure heaven. The only thing I was shocked about is that the actual spring was a poured concrete, almost like swimming pool. But it was surround by rocks and snow. The caretaker let me know that he does empty it nightly and clean it out. We were able to spend an hour in the hot spring and then we were treated to a lunch of piping hot chili, warm cornbread, and assorted crackers with cheese. The lunch was delicious!!!! And there was plenty to go around for everyone. As we started to load up for the trip back (10 miles back) I had already become a little sad because I knew that sometime soon the trip would end. The dogs and our guide were so amazing to get us back to home base safe. It will be one of those experiences that I will always think of in amazement. The fact that I got to experience even a piece of what a Iditarod feels like. And the fact that I got to share those moments with 12 majestic dogs that worked so hard for me. This is a do-not-miss experience in Jackson. We did the full day tour which included a hour soak in Granite Hot Springs and lunch. E miles there, eleven back with a team of 6 sled dogs. We got our own sled, without -ahem- a guide! It was exhilarating. Each guide has two couples, and two sleds. We were the back sled and we got to mush the dogs ourselves the whole time. We alternated driving and sitting and at one time we co-mushed. We were looking for an adventure and we got it. For those who are nervous to mush alone, I assume the guides are flexible on assisting. Tomas, our guide was charming and helpful, try to get his teams of dogs, they're delightful. Cons - even though we loved mushing our own sled, it would have been nice to get some tour-y info about the landscape, etc that the other sled couple got from the guide. And the lunch, contrary to the brochure, is NOT a steak! It was soup. Good soup in bread bowls, but still soup. Honestly, I can barely squawk about these two items because they were merely a bump in the road. read more

We booked directly with the company, and they were very informative and friendly. They picked us up at our hotel and drove us out to their property. There are about 200 dogs there, and all yipping at the same time, it was hilarious! This is a small privately owned business, and you can tell. There are not a lot of bells and whistles, they get you in and get you rolling quickly. They supplied very warm boots, which we really appreciated, since it was only 3 degrees that morning. We stayed warm and cozy on the trail while our dogs took us on our merry way. Every time we would stop, the pups began voicing their desire to get moving again, so funny! Our trail guide was Doug, and he was fun and friendly. We were able to stand or sit in the basket, we choose to stand up and get the feel of being in charge. (We weren't of course, Doug was) We stopped for a campfire picnic, with home made chili, biscuits and drinks with amazing views of the Tetons. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip, and feel very fortunate to be able to help any business that is privately owned after COVID impacted so many in our country. This was a fantastic experience but the only reason we didn't rate this 5 stars is because there are some serious risks if the weather is not cooperating. JHI delivered everything they promised and more. They do a great job preparing you for the day, lunch was a fun camp style experience, and the mushers were outstanding. Here is what you need to know. If the weather is below zero (which it was for us) TAKE THE PARKAS that JHI offers you. We did the full day because we didn't want to miss the hot springs, but it was so brutally cold our kids suffered on the ride back and got early stages of hypothermia which was scary. Wished we would have taken the parka, which they offered some people but not us. If the temp is below zero, recommend only half day with little kids. Still we will remember the highlights and not the cold I'm sure. It was a really cool sight seeing experience. read more

The owner (Frank Teasley) is a lifelong Alaska Iditarod dogsled musher/trainer. His base is just outside Jackson, WY. As of today, he has 179 authentic Alaskan Husky sled dogs and puppies. Frank Teasley is 100% a dogsled musher and that is why some peoples' reviews complain about him. He's not a great businessman or a great marketer or a great personality; he's only one of the world's great dog mushers -- AND THAT IS EXACTLY WHY HIS FULLDAY HOT SPRINGS DOGSLED EXPERIENCE IS THE ADVENTURE OF A LIFETIME. I have been coming to Jackson Hole for 40 years. I now own a place there. And to this day, I rank Mr. Teasley's Jackson Hole Iditarod dogsled tours (the fullday only -- never book the half day) as the only MUST DO EVERY TIME winter activity. BTW, the lunch is a hot meal, but not a steak or a fish. It's soup or stew or chili and some great appetizers and hot beverages. Mushing a sled 10 miles along a snowy trail beside a creek, with mountains in the foreground, to a natural hot spring, is an incredible and unique experience. Then, when you arrive at the hot spring, you change into a bathing suit and get into a 104 degree pool to get warmed to the bone, while the steam rises around you. Get re-dressed, eat a delicious hot lunch, and mush back to base (about 1.5 hours). Be prepared. Dress waterproof and way warmer than you think would be needed. Bring handwarmers, a swim suit, and a towel. And give Frank a break. He's sharing his authentic experience with you, and it's unique and well worth every minute and every penny. read more

Although the actual trip on the dog sled was fun, I have to say the booking staff, especially Ryan who seems to run the show was a not very professional. My daughter woke up sick & was not able to make it.. She wanted to go but I thought the other people wouldn't appreciate it. When I got there I immediately told Ryan.. He stated @ too bad, u r not getting a refund" turned his back & left. I understood this but his rudeness was really sad! After the ride I approached Ryan & the owner Frank who were alone in the check in room & told Ryan that I didn't appreciate his rudeness. Ryan was again rude & Frank, very dismissive, annoyed & basically hoped I would go away. As our van pulled out, Frank stuck his head in to tell us that his dogs eat 80,000 lbs of dog food a year.. Directed @ me.. That he needs to squeeze every last dollar out of his guests... Ok Frank... It's ur business & dogs eat! Duh! The 1/2 day takes u out to a point where they set up a table & feed u a chili lunch w/ a muffin & a drink .. Ok.. No big deal.. Our musher, Chloe was wonderful which made up for the other rudeness. I had a terrible experience with Jackson hole iditerod dog sled tours. Fank Teasley was a real jerk to me and my fiancé and to the booking agent, Parkway Inn. We booked the trip thru Parkway a few days ago, upon their recommendation. The only information we have is a brochure that Frank has printed. The brochure clearly sates that the dogsled tour go to Granite Hot Springs. It Does not say that a half day tour doesn't go to the spring. I called to confirm and spoke to Mrs, Teasley, who said we were NOT Booked on the trip to springs. Then Frank Teasley, called me a few hours later to essentially scold me for not booking thru him and essentially telling about the high commission rates that Hotels charge, and that if 8'had booked through him none of the mistakes would have been made. He blamed the hotel and didn't accept ANY RESPONSIBILITY for the error. He said although he has a waiting lis a mile long, he " had better things to do with my time than calling anyone on a waiting list ". He essentially refused to refund my money , nor allow us to go in a day long trip to the springs. After about 20 mins of him venting his frustration to me, he told me I had no recourse, and to fight it out with the hotel. I want say that Parkway Inn has been a fabulous hotel and they have been more than helpful in creating a memorable experience . Unfortunately, Frank Teasley has a lot to learn. read more

If in the area, you have to do this! They book up early so definitely reserve in advance. We did a half-day tour so we did not go to the granite hot springs (although we went there a different day and they're definitely a must as well!). We were worried about the cold as the weather was extremely cold (rated hazardous), but it really wasn't a problem. They give you boots and make sure you have the right equipment and then you stick some hand/toe warmers in and off you go. It was absolutely amazing. The guides are so nice (we had Mary who was exceptional but everyone else seemed nice too), and they will either drive for you while you sit in the sled or let you drive yourself, not a problem. I sat in the sled one way while my husband drove and then joined him standing on the sled (2 adults will fit) and am so glad I did. They make everything so easy and the dogs are so cute and clearly loving what they do. JHI also has one of their guides take pictures of you along the way so you can have pretty awesome Christmas cards the next year! Can't say enough about this. read more
