Anniversary Dinner was here last night and it was our first time here. I couldn't ask for a more romantic ambiance in this old home with exposed brick walls, artwork, and windows everywhere! Our appetizers were the ultimate memory here- the steak tips with a blue cheese sauce was absolutely to die for! Hubs is still talking about the fried quail on bed of greens app- both were simply spectacular! Also ordered the French onion soup with beef tips- this is a meal in itself so be prepared to get full fast! We will definitely be back!! read more

This is my go to for a big date night or special event. It was the restaurant I went to after I proposed to my now wife and a regular for a date night. Every time I have been here the food is always amazing and the cocktails are the best. They have great steaks and my wife always enjoys the dishes with shrimp. Food is good but the service was a little off to me. We came on a Tuesday night. I asked for warm water but they gave me room temperature water. Then they gave me scalding hot water. For dessert, one of my coworkers asked for crème brûlée but they gave her key lime pie instead because the chef changed their mind about it apparently. She wasn't too happy about it. Then when we were leaving we saw one of the waitresses sleeping at the bar. I guess she was tired, because it was almost closing time but I just thought it was weird. read more

Overall, I had a great experience! I ordered the shrimp and grits with a house salad. The salad was A+, the peppercorn dressing was everything. The Shrimp and Grits: flavor was impeccable, but the roux had a very salty after taste. However, the creamy texture of the Gouda grits offset a slight hint of saltiness from the roux. The andouille was flavorful and green onions and peppers took it to the next level. Pros: -The staff was great and tended to our every need. -Food was flavorful overall Cons: -Noise level (In all fairness, I went during graduation season for a Saturday lunch.) -The dish was a bit too salty. read more

We celebrated our 45th anniversary dinner at the Jacmel Inn on a recent Saturday evening. We were welcomed by the hostess and headed for the bar as we had arrived early for our 7:00 PM reservation. The bartender/manager was friendly and very professional at his job. Once seated, we ordered our appetizers (boudin, and crispy fried oysters over smoked bacon). Entrees were the Redfish w/ lump crab and the Crispy duckling. We split the bread pudding for dessert. The presentation and flavors of all dishes were right on point perfect. Service all evening was great. Our server, Emma, was friendly, informative and professional. A key point for us was The ambiance. So nice to have dinner and be able to carry on a conversation without straining to hear. The background music was great ( e.g. CSNY, George Harrison) and played at a volume just perfect as to enhance and not distract from conversation. I'd highly recommend the Jacmel Inn for anyone's fine dining experience, special occasion or just a great meal. Only wished we could of met Mr Paul Murphy, the proprietor, but maybe next time ! read more

Yelp helps again!!! On a recent trip to New Orleans I wanted to stop for lunch somewhere along the way. I checked out top rated restaurants in the cities outside of NOLA and came across Jacmel Inn. It is as good as the rating suggests!!!! First, it's a bit tricky to get to. I followed my GPS around the same block 4 times - never seeing this place. Finally when I had given up and circled around to get back on the highway I saw a big sign for it. It seems that it is between two one way roads - try both roads before giving up. There is at least a huge sign on one side! The next thing one needs to know is that this place is in a very unassuming location. It's heavily residential outside of downtown Hammond. It looks like the kind of neighborhood one might find a great fried chicken joint, not high quality food and wine. Push on, this place truly is an oasis in the middle of Hammond. Once I finally arrived I was stunned. The restaurant is nestled between lots of trees, which really helps you feel like you're traveling to another place and time when you visit. The inside is gorgeous with wonderful woodwork. The outside patio though is where I ate - and where I have daydreams of returning! It's so spacious, with water fountains, lights, and speakers playing poppy emo music were all so wonderful. I think it would be great for a date night or to even rent out for a special party. And I bet in the summer this place is packed! It was a little cold that day, so no one was on the patio, however when I mentioned to the server that I had my dog with me and would like to sit outside - she did not hesitate. She quickly pulled out a white linen table cloth and got me my own little spot set up outside. It was just a quick lunch so we ordered the turtle soup and a salad. Both were outstanding. They also serve you fresh baked bread when you dine here, which on a chilly day was a great compliment to the turtle soup. They had many delicious looking items on the menu and a pretty attractive wine list. This likely will be regular stop for me on my trips down to NOLA. read more

My dad found this restaurant while searching for a restaurant open for our first Thanksgiving without Mom. None of us realized this gem existed! We were seated upstairs at a bit of an out-of-the-way table (perhaps because of the holiday, or because we showed up with 3 instead of the reserved 4) and taken care of, unobtrusively and kindly. Service was leisurely, the atmosphere mellow, and the food was great. We each had the "Thanksgiving Dinner" (natch!) entree which made me want to return and try the regular menu. I only wish we were big drinkers or dessert eaters, ha, to drive up the bill and the tip, but we very much appreciated this surprise (to us) which helped make this Thanksgiving a wonderful memory. read more

Best vibe / ambiance in Hammond. Food is great but I come back because Chance, is in my opinion, the best restaurant manager in this area. Service is always great. Great place to get a cocktail. Good whiskey selection and they can actually make a cocktail. I personally like to hang out on their patio. Steaks are very good but I usually end up eating a bunch of appetizers. Calamari is great. Very large portion. The fried oyster with bacon is ridiculous. The crawfish tamales are very good. My one knock is I wish they had a little more variety for entrees...it's very much centered around meat or fish (they do have a good Shrimp and Grits.) I recommend coming here for an intimate dinner or starting your night off here with an appetizer and a drink. read more

Loved the gnocchi for the appetizer, and the cauliflower soup was delicious! For my entree, I tried the shrimp & grits, which were super flavorful. I'm very picky about my shrimp & grits and always order it if it's on the menu. Definitely a must-try. The reason I've given four stars rather than five was because each of our cocktails were VERY sweet, and the cocktail menu was very limited. Other than that one criticism, the atmosphere was great and felt super cozy. It was like having dinner at friend's home, which was really nice. read more

When we first arrived there was a large private party and we were greeted within five minutes. Once at the table we waited about 5 minutes before the waiter realized we were his table, which I thought was going to be a terrible experience. We ordered appetizer (calamari) and it was delicious. Prior to ordering dinner, we asked to speak to the chef because I have an allergy to anything cooked on propane or natural gas, Chef Paul came to the table and assured me he would prepare the food perfectly. For dinner, I ordered a filet cooked medium, double baked potato with the soup of the day, which was a bacon, mushroom, Swiss cheese! Everything was perfect! Chef Paul came back to the table to assure everything was great! We will be back! read more

We had reservations on Christmas Eve & they sat us quickly at a table for 2 in the lobby near the fireplace. In about 30 minutes a group of people waiting to be seated had congregated around our table, even though there was plenty of space in the back of the lobby as well as at the bar. They were literally close enough to us that we couldn't push out our chairs & leave the table. I mentioned this situation to the waitress 3 times that this was very uncomfortable for us as we couldn't even talk to each other. The last time I mentioned this to our waitress I asked her to tell the manager about how concerned I was about this. The manager never came out to our table to speak to us. I spent $200+ there tonight & left a generous tip for our waitress. I will not be returning to Jacmel Inn nor will I be referring anyone else there. They have lost my business & I will find a new place that appreciates their faithful customers. read more

Went here for their advertised steak night. They Only had two steaks for steak night, a 6oz filet and a hangar steak. There were two of us and we were seated next to a large noisy party. There were plenty of tables yet we were seated next to the noisiest spot in the restaurant. We ordered one filet and one hanger steak. The hangar steak was cut multiple tines like someone was trying to check for fondness. The filet was cut in one spot also. They came with carrots and fries. First , for the price of the steak, you would think they could have at least given you a baked potato and as far as the carrots go, there were 3 hard tiny baby carrots on our plates. My carrots were so hard, I had to send them back. Jacmel holds itself to a higher standard but the presentation and experience was no better than a McDonalds! read more

I was a little apprehensive about going to Jacmel because of some of the negative posts that I read. I think mostly the negative comments are from people who just don't know how to order at a really upscale place. So they just want to complain about everything. I was overall pleased with my meal as was everyone at the table. We started with two appetizers - the crab cake, which was full of jumbo lump crabmeat and the heirloom tomato salad, which was tasty. Three of us had the amberjack filet with eggplant and another had the redfish dish. All of the entrees had either a salad or soup complimentary with the meal. The garden salad was a nice size and it was pretty. It came with the house dressing which is some kind of peppercorn creamy dressing. That was okay. It was a tad sweet for me. The only con I have is about the drinks. They are expensive and overall they weren't that tasty. The blueberry martini was literally blue and had no fruit in it at all. It looked like they used blue curaçao in it to turn it that color and it was way too sweet. The Bolivian 63, on the other hand, was very tart. It is very expensive and it is very loud. I could hardly hear the person across the table from me because of this really loud table that we were seated next to. They were just loud and admittedly drunks. Overall it was a nice night and I'm excited to try them for lunch and brunch so I can give a review that covers everything. Just make sure to bring/have twice as much money as you think you need. My (now) husband and I had our rehearsal dinner at Jacmel Inn and we absolutely loved it! They used the upstairs space just for us and it was the perfect size for our party, which was about 35 people. The food was so so incredible; we had a set menu (steak, chicken piccata, and redfish were the entrees) and everything on it was fantastic and everyone at the rehearsal dinner raved about the food every course. The servers were all professional and helpful and managed to handle such a big party really well. It was the middle of June and the ventilation wasn't great so it was warm in the restaurant so that was a small hiccup, but we still had a fantastic time! The manager that my father-in-law spoke to was Alphonso and he had nothing but great things to say about how Alphonso handled everything! read more

I love my mamma dearly, so for her birthday, I wanted to take her out to a fancy pants dinner. We both wanted to try somewhere we'd never been, so we picked Jacmel Inn. Jacmel looks like it's in an old house, and it's so pretty. You walk down a winding path through a garden to reach the house. When you enter, you feel like you're in someone's home. Beautiful exposed wood, dim lighting, and a burning fireplace, make it very welcoming. Our server was nice, but I felt he could've been more polished for that level of restaurant. To start, we had the French Market Oysters, which is fried oysters on top of creamed spinach, andouille and anisette. Holy cow! This was DELICIOUS!! I wish I had an entree size of it. We also ordered the turtle soup. It was disgusting. It tasted like chili, and was very watery and greasy. The server promptly took it away, and it didn't appear on the bill. For my entree, I had the scallops. They were seared and cooked perfectly. There was a special of a filet with lobster knuckles in butter on top My mom asked if she could swap out the filet for a ribeye. She was told that it wasn't a problem, but there might be a slight price difference. Great! While her entree tasted great, I was SHOCKED to get the bill and see that they had upcharged it $17!!! I found that to be absolutely outrageous because they special was already the highest priced entree to begin with at $33, so to not tell me that the price difference was going to put that entree at $50 was just inexcusable. I didn't want to address it there because I didn't want my mom to feel bad for ordering it. I did call the restaurant to complain about it, and the manager was sympathetic and agreed that I definitely should've been told. For desserts, we got bread pudding and creme brulee. This is a wonderful experience for anyone who wants a romantic dinner or to simply done out at a nice upscale restaurant. The restaurant is an old mansion with many small rooms and window views around the entire seating area. The menu is limited but has a great selection of steaks and seafood. I have frequented this establishment for years with good results. Saturday evening, 2-12-22, I ordered the shrimp and grits (2 orders) . Each order had only 5 shrimp and several tablespoons of grits. This was the most meager portions I have ever received and the bill was over $52.00, there was a thin brown gravy/sauce over the grits that had a somewhat bitter flavor. I was extremely disappointed with both the quality and quantity of the meal, it was very overpriced considering the extremely small portions and the obvious decline in quality. read more

Husband and I came on a Tuesday night while we were staying in the area. The building and dining is unique and full of character. Food overall was good -- coming from two people who have dined all over the world and who are very opinionated eaters for this price point. I did, however, almost give a 3-star rating because of the lack of knowledge of staff. We arrived with a dietary restriction card for my husband who cannot do tubers such as potato or grains (we keep many of these on hand for the kitchen when we dine out). The servers were very confused our questions and didn't even know what wheat is or what came in some of the dishes. This makes very a very awkward situation where we don't feel like we can trust them. Luckily, husband woke up the next day feeling fine so nothing was slipped in by accident. This is the best Fine dining restaurant in the Parish. The current chef is very talented and rivals the top high end chefs in New Orleans. Cutting edge cuisine prepared skillfully. The large old house is set on beautiful grounds with a picturesque patio for dining in pleasant evenings. Live music has been there recently on Thurs and Sat evenings. Many fireplaces and a charming bar area complete a most romantic setting. White dinner cloths with attentive but not stuffy service make Jacmel a great place for a special dinner or celebration. Came in at 12:15 for brunch. Three people received the same beverage while waiting and were charged three different amounts. By 2:45 food was served and spoiled to the extent of the entire room wondering what the smell was. 2 out of 4 entrees were inedible. Server was nowhere to be found for thirty minutes after food was delivered. We were really hoping for the best but the service and food did not meet our expectations. Probably the nicest restaurant in Hammond. Old charm, cozy, yet a bit dressy and wonderful food. Tired the Crispy Oyster app. Perfect for 2. Dinner salads with our entres were just the right size and fresh. Loved the small heirloom tomatoes in the salad! I had the Scallops entre, yumm. Will definately get that again. We also ordered the bread pudding desert. I usually don't get bread pudding because it is usually heavy and just too much to eat after a meal. This one was just the right size for 2 to share. Again, yummm, condensed milk OMG. 3 or 4 bites a piece is just right. The only negative to the evening is the wait in getting a mixed drink. I'd recommend getting a glass of wine if you want alcohol. My best friend and I drive past this place whenever we're in Hammond, going on three years. Always with the comment that we want to go. Enough wanting, we picked a date, made a reservation and went. Completely worth the wait. Dinner was like walking through a fine painting of food. It was an experience from the moment we walked in. The location is beautiful outside. I and my sister took my 92-year old mother to Jacmel for Mother's Day and were treated with every possible kindness and consideration. Besides the very gracious attention of our server and the manager, the food was delectable and provided in a timely manner. It is indeed a rare occasion when visiting a restaurant today when both the service and the quality of the fare are unmatchable. My thanks to all who contributed to this memorable visit. read more
