Had some time before an event and love supporting local breweries. We were also told this was a great place for cheese curds, so we decided to stop in. The space was nice. I was actually surprised at how comfortable it was for a small town brewery. Lots of space at the bar and plenty of tables too. Service was fast. We tried a couple beers and the aforementioned cheese curds. Both were good. If you enjoy local beers, make this a stop if you're in Western SD. read more

Perhaps next time I'll taste some of their brews, what they're known for, because unfortunately this visit I didn't order any. My family and I planned to have lunch at Redwater Kitchen, right next door, but it was closed that day! That's what led us next door, to Spearfish Brewing. Everyone was pretty pleasant, although service was hands-off. We weren't asked about if the two young children (1 and 3) needed booster seats; we had to ask the server to come back and ask if they had any. Thankfully they did which helped a lot. It's not the most kid friendly on first glance; they don't have a kid menu; they don't have any of those kid activities, which makes sense given it's a brewery; they only had high tops and regular tables, so I appreciate they at least had the kid booster seats. The food was okay. I ordered the Smoked Turkey sandwich, and it was pretty tasty. All of us ordered sandwiches that came with a side of pickles and a bag of chips. I needed that pickle, because the rest of the meal was a lot of salt! My boyfriend and I shared a side of wings, which were coated with a delicious sweet + spicy sauce. This stop was sadly the least favorite of our group. There were a ton of option but most seemed to fall short of the expectations, similar to when you go into a restaurant with a 20 page menu. I could feel the potential in each but they just didn't quite get there in nose, flavor, mouthfeel or all of the above. The staff here is awesome. Everyone is knowledgeable about their beers and makes great recommendations. You can sample something you may be considering before committing to a full glass. The beer list and variety is great and they also have an extensive food menu. I will call myself a beer snob. The beers here are SOLID! But what makes a great atmosphere and the desire to return to an establishment is the staff. This is our 5th visit to area. Sat on the patio and watched the staff return a baby bird to its nest. Their compassion for the baby bird was simply amazing! Well done young men!!! read more

Five stars for the best mac 'n cheese that I have had in a long time. Seriously. Just the right amount of Cheetos and jalapeños. Thinking about it almost makes me want to drive back from Los Angeles now. Right now. Also, a rad place to work remotely and drink beer. Tasty beer. Street parking was easy and hassle free. I sincerely hope that Spearfish doesn't get "found" like a lot of smaller college towns in the West. It would be a tragedy if something like that happened. read more

Beer - We tried all their IPAs and Pales and their sour. All were pretty good. If I lived in Spearfish I would be back. Food - Burger was less than to be desired. The two appetizers we had were great. Fried cheese curds and pretzel bites. Next time we will try restaurant next door. My wife and I were in Spearfish, SD, about an hour north of Rapid City and we had just visited the fish hatchery, which they said get 150,000 visitors a year at, it was cool, but maybe worth 1/2 hour of your time. The bartender at Spearfish was super helpful in showing us some cool waterfalls to see in Spearfish and some hiking. I started off with a The Schwa beer, which was pink guava fruit beer. Not too crazy at the ABV at 5%, but it was super flavorful. A little hoppy, but the perfect amount of sweetness. My second beer was Half a Horse, their flagship IPA, which was super solid. Just a great IPA. I took it next door to the restaurant and got a Cuban sandwich to go with it. Perfect pairing. Great interior and talked to some other tourists in there. We recently stopped into spearfish brewing after doing a hike locally, both my husband and I love craft beers so we was excited to check another one off of the list. The establishment its self is bright and clean with a great atmosphere, our server was super helpful and friendly, he talked to us about the beer options and based on his recommendations we placed our order. We also ordered a couple of appetizers and spent some time looking at the swag while we waited for our drinks and food. I ended up buying a tank top and my husband got a t-shirt, both were really soft and great quality. The beers and food were really good, and we took a couple of cans of the sours home with us. We have since visited several other local breweries and spearfish is by far my favorite, we will be returning this weekend and I will for sure be leaving with more then 2 cans of sours for my beer fridge. read more

All the beer I tasted was good, specially the jalapeno one. Friendly bartenders, the pretzels served in a cup very really good. I believe they were Dot's brand from north Dakota. The establishment was classy, nicely decorated, had outdoor seating and a good sized bar. Had a few items on the food menu, but once I saw the dinner menu next door, I had to hold out. This bar shares the bathrooms (very clean) with the restaurant nextdoor and I believe the kitchen too. Wish they could offer some of the main dishes from the restaurant. We were excited to visit and the Beer was good, but the service and attitude from the manager was unacceptable. We tried to buy a sweatshirt and they had it marked one price on the display. When they went to ring it up it was higher price. When I asked them to honor the price that was displayed, they refused and gave me an attitude about it. I guess they are not familiar with the "customer is right" concept, which is unfortunate. Considering we'd be paying them $50 to advertise their brewery, it's truly their loss. We spend our time driving cross-country several times a year, stopping at every brewery along our route, which we blog about - so it's disappointing to have a negative experience, which doesn't happen often. We would have been OK to spend the $50 they were asking; however, it was how the staff handled the situation that soured our experience. We will move on to our next brewery and spend our money there - and will happily advertise for them with the clothing that we purchase. read more

We were here the week before Sturgis and spent $400 in the brewery. We took 10 growlers home to share with our friends in Colorado. We Love the brewery but we stopped in again on Saturday of the Labor Day weekend. There were two tables with dogs so we sat on the patio to enjoy a Lemon Bar Sour with our Great Dane and Chocolate Lab. We had already ordered from one gentleman, when the bob cut do server booted us. Too bad, Sawyer brewing down the road was more than accommodating for us and our dogs. We're beer snobs from California and Oregon. They passed the test. They also have hat's and shirts which we bought. Stop in, you won't regret it.
