I have nothing but great things to say about this brewery! We came in with a party of 13 and no reservations. A party this large could be something that frazzled the staff but not the crew at Sawyer, they were so nice! It was our first time here so we were curious about the diffrent beers. They let us try as many as we liked and they were all delicious. They had a peach sour that was fantastic. They also have a ton of delicious ipa's and a few different non alcoholic drinks. I was shook with a party so large how fast they got all of our food. I really appreciate that I can't do dairy so I asked if I could have the cheese for the nachos on the side. They did this but to my disappointment it was basically just chips and meat. Not their fault since I modified it. What I really appreciated though was I asked since there's no cheese could you bring me some salsa for it. They lovingly did this, and a big bowl too!l What excellent customer service. Reconsidering my angry review. Stopped in despite my previous experience and was greeted by a pleasant female who was as sweet as the last dude was sour. Still the product was out of stock but she was kind and what a difference! I'm holding out for a good restock. Here's hoping I can give this establishment another upgrade some day. read more

Bonus Stop, not on the Hop Passport (yet?) I'm going to have to start with agreeing with another reviewer on the credit card policy. We prefer to pay cash with small businesses to keep them from having to pay credit card fees (or us for that matter, if the fees are passed on to the consumer) but that seems to be unacceptable here. I completely understand having a card on file for keeping a tab open but it makes zero sense to require a card when someone wants to pay cash. We ordered a flight and wanted to pay cash but were told they needed a credit card regardless, just in case. Just in case what? I'm paying for my order before I get it. I would then be free to leave when I choose without additional work for staff or, well, me. Especially since there is indeed a credit card fee here, since we were told the cash price on closing out exactly what we initially ordered - "just let me pay and be done with it" (quoting the hubs). I'd seriously rethink that policy. On to the beer, there were a couple of stand outs, including our favorites the Dark Lager & Mouse Trap. As well as middle of the road brews, falling in the 3 range. We loved the collabs. It's always great to see businesses support each other. There are pizzas on the menu that looked pretty interesting but, circling back to point 1, we were annoyed enough by the credit card requirement that we opted for 1 & done, unfortunately. In my opinion this place is the perfect brewery. Great beers, of course, but also great food -- with the right options whether you just need a little nosh or want some really legit pizza. The Village at Creekside in Spearfish has some really good eateries. Sawyer for pizza and Gao for Vietnamese food. I would avoid Farmhouse. Woodfired pizza at Sawyer is so good! So are their drinks. We got garlic cheese bread which came out looking like a cheese pizza! Then we got Hawaiian, Margherita, potato and prosciutto & arugula pizzas. The potato pizza was the most different. Has mashed potato texture with baked potato flavors. All were my favorites and wood fired crust pizzas just taste so yummy. I got the hand crafted root beer non alcoholic drink and I couldn't stop sipping. Could taste the herbal scent of anise, vanilla and other sweet frothy flavors. read more

I visit spearfish regularly and always find myself and our family going to Sawyer's for some good food and drinks. The location is perfect in warmer months and inside is also very nice with plenty of beers on tap. I recently was just there doing a take-out order for pizza and the pizza was ready to go in 15-20 minutes and it was excellent. We got a few different pizzas and they all were awesome. I have tried the potato pizza before too, and that was also very good! Keep it up and thank you! read more

First time I've ever had to provide a credit card before ordering at a dine-in, table full-service restaurant, we nearly walked out when asked to provide a credit card as soon as we were seated. Pizza was fine, beer and selection were good, atmosphere good, but service was abysmal. Our server was so rude, she seems to be in the wrong profession. She was also mopping floors in between serving us, without washing in between. It was slow while we were there, only two other tables dining in (~7:30p weeknight), and it looked like the staff was already looking to close and go home, well before closing time. Bartender was rude too when we sent our crafted soda back because it was flat. We will not be returning to this place, ever. read more

After spending the afternoon in Deadwood with family visiting from out of state we made the trip to Spearfish specifically to try out Sawyer Brewing Company. The outside of the restaurant was nice and modern. As soon as we walked in, we saw the bar where patron's were standing/sitting around. There were at least 4 staff members who watched us walk in, however none greeted us. I wasn't sure if we needed to order drinks at the bar and then find a seat so I asked the bartender who answered my question in a very condescending way. She seemed extremely annoyed to be bothered by such a stupid question... We found a seat and were approached by our server quickly. She was very nice and the pizza and drinks were pretty good. Unfortunately, the reception we first got from the bartender kinda gave us a bad taste from the get go. I have worked in different elements of customer service for over 30 years and I can't say enough how initial friendliness is SUCH an important part of a person's first impression. I really hope the owners address this because other than the rude bartender and the staff not caring about greeting patrons this was a cool little place. read more

Y'all, this is the place to go in Spearfish. I had asked a fellow camper where to go, and he hollered at me over yonder at Sawyer Brewing Company. He said he was fixin to go himself. So me and the beautiful bride loaded up and skedaddled over there. There was a bunch of youngins lollygaggin' inside, but we were able to get a table right away. I reckon it was a bro club, but it was just some folks a piddlin. Ordered a flight right a way, and lawdamercy it was good. Ain't never had any beer so good. To bad I tumpt one over and got it on my britches, but our darlin waitress made it right without throwing a hissy fit and made sure I didn't rurnt my experience. I usedtacould drink 20 beers, but a couple of flights and I was full. The darlin waitress asked if we were going to J'eet, and we ordered pizza (Hawaiian, no Tamaters). I heard someone try to order Grits and Gravy (what in the tarnation?), but pizza and salads was all they had. The only thing that wasnt perfect, was my chair was a little cattywampus. I reckon that has nothing to do with my great experience I had. I heard the next table over say that Mama'n'em would be coming back for sure. I will stop here for sure everytime I am in Spearfish. Love the beers and pizza at Sawyer. Would like to see other food menu items, but the pizza was excellent. Welcome to IPA land. Sawyer has some awesome IPAs on tap. We started with the 4-stroke and went to the chainsaw squatch down under. Both beers are very hoppy, but the chainsaw squatch had more body and tasted a bit stronger. Very good beer. We had a Hawaiian pizza and a chicken and bacon pizza. Both pizzas were very tasty. The chicken and bacon had onions and corn that blended well with the meat. Highly recommended. We took our dog and enjoyed the stream in the back of the restaurant. Sawyer has caps and T-shirt's for sale. Service was excellent. I normally do not leave reviews, but after today's experience after the multiple visits sealed the deal. After the lack of communication that our food would take over a hour to come out, the server Veronica then proceeded to make excuses and was argumentative instead of apologizing for the piss poor at best service. I understand that it may be busier than one is used to but the layout allows for one to still be attentive to a paying customers experience; btw our order was inputed wrong and still was told we were in the wrong . We'll just take our money to Crow's Peak who remembers us and allows for a more pleasant experience for our money. read more

RUDE is the polite way to say it. We have a 12 year old who can't have gluten they have no gluten free option for pizza. How many 12 year olds want a chicken salad when the whole family is eating pizza??? They are right next door to a Pho restaurant.... they LITTERLY share a patio. The only thing seperating them is a chain across part of it leaving a walk way to go between the 2 places... my daughter walked over there to get a pho dinner(gluten free) for my granddaughter. She came back with it in a black bag still tied up. The manager marched her ass out and said there was no outside food or drink... AGAIN we are outside on the patio that they share with the neighbor. She made my daughter carry the food out to the truck she wouldn't even let her have it in the bag at the table..... by this time my granddaughter who was starving is now crying as she's so embarrassed about this scene being made over her. This could have been handled so so much better by this manager! We weren't sitting there using their tables or space with out purchasing anything.. matter of fact we ordered 4 pizzas, chips and salsa, 2 bread stick orders and everyone but me had drinks. We decided to cancel our order and go else where. The waiter was nice and i think embarrassed by the manager. She told him that the pizza was already in the oven and we couldn't cancel and made my other daughter pay for it. Well that was an obvious lie as it was another 35 minutes(we had already been waiting 30 min) before they were brought out. Then after all this it was very disappointing. Of the 4 pizzas the only one that had any flavor and wasn't dry was the dill pickle one. It was like they forgot the sauce on all of them. The bread sticks sucked there was no melty cheese they were dry and over cooked. The kids all liked the beers they had and the salsa was good but the chips served with it were just average. It's NOT a place i would every go again even if the manager had not been rude AF...... Pizza Ranch pizza is better if that tells you anything. Seriously Sawyers you basically have one thing on your menu PIZZA and you don't have a gluten free option??? In this day and age??? Anyway don't go if you are gluten free, don't go if you want a flavorful pizza and don't go support an establishment who can't make a concession for a 12 year old girl when her family was spending $130 on their meal! ‍‍‍‍ read more

Visiting the Mt. Rushmore area from North Dakota this week and stumbled across some beers (Cadillac Couch and 2 Stroke IPA) while dining at Alpine Inn. My husband and I instantly fell in love and shortened our MT. Rushmore trip by a day just so we could come to spearfish and visit this place! The trip was 100% worth it! Place was busy but understandably so and the beer was even better in person! Oh and to top it off their pizza is sooooo good and pairs well with their beer.
