For those of you that are brewing purists and believe six inches of foam on top of two inches of actual beer is how you get the "full flavor", then this place is for you. I love beer and breweries but not this place, not worth $2+ an once. I didn't realize "traditional pours" meant ripping of the Customer. And I kid you not.. the WORST service ever. If the Beertender or service staff were busy, I'd totally understand, nope.. slouched over the counter and bs'ing. When my beer-brewing friends visit, I take them here to gauge their reaction... then we giggle about it on our way to a different brewery. They have different types for different folks. All of it was delicious though, there was also a pop up vegan joint as well here when we came which we loved! My wife and I were in Rapid City on vacation doing the Presidential Trail of Statues, which is awesome, they have all presidents up to Obama in statue form. About 7/8 of the way through, it started to hail big time, so we made a mad dash to this brewery, about a block away from where we were. The bartender was great, we got a few stickers and I got an IPA. Their flagship, it was really good. We sat and decompressed for about 15 minutes and it turned into a beautiful day in those 15 minutes. What a great stop, instead of just sitting under an awning in downtown. Awesome stop! read more

Huge place with a variety of seating options. Very industrial rustic decor but very clean. Popped in for a beer and lunch. Unfortunately they do not serve food but the beer was great and will be back when I have a little food on my stomach. I love the fact they have the 4 ounce option that you can build your own flight or sample a little of everything. Their prices were quite reasonable for a brewery. They offer some wine options for anyone in your party that isn't a beer drinker so that is a plus. The waiter was very friendly and knowledgeable. I really liked this place for several reasons. 1- the beer is unique. Why should I go to this brewery or that brewery? A good reason is to try things other breweries don't brew, especially the difficult beers. They even have some collaborations on the list and canned. 2- the staff is knowledgeable. I stopped by here this past yesterday by myself for some after dinner drinks. I was with my wife and her parents for dinner in Rapid City whenever they decided they wanted some ice cream after dinner and I decided to see if a brewery was around. Hay Camp actually ended up being a block or so away and I headed on over. The inside of this place is cavernous (two story high ceiling) and nothing is done in right angles. There is a giant curved bar to sit at as well as living edge high top tables and some booths that were around a semi circle. The decorations behind the bar were also cool as there was a lot of wood beams, the skull of steer head and then a second story lookout that was shaped like a keg. In the back you could also see their brewing equipment. On the night I stopped by there also happened to be a concert in one of the other rooms and so I was able to hear it while sipping my beers. As I often do whenever I visit a new brewery I went with a flight here. They have both make your own flights and premade flights and I went with their hop flight which consisted of the Tricouni Ale, Centennial Trail IPA and Hopdlebar Maltstache DPA. It was supposed to be $7 according to the menu but I was charged $8 which would have followed the non guided pricing. In any case, the first beer I tried was the Tricouni Ale. It started off smooth before progressing to some heavy hops at the finish. The menu had described it as starting off tropical and I got that on the nose but not with the taste. Up next was the Centennial Trail IPA which started off with a nice sweet Carmel flavor before quickly finishing with those big Centennial hops. Last but certainly not least was the Hopdlebar Maltstache DPA. It was a surprisingly smooth beer that showcased the hops but without overpowering the palate. At 8.5% ABV it was also a surprisingly drinkable beer which I think could be dangerous if you didn't know that. The bottom line for me is that I would probably stop by again in the future. While all of their beers were smooth and decent, none really hit the spot for me and made me say "I want more of that". They did have a number of other beers like the XPA and Dino-SOUR which I would love to try though. read more

Also, $20 to fill a growler is something I've never experienced before. I wish I would have just bought a 6-pack instead. The only reason this gets a 4 instead of a 5 is that they don't serve food, but don't despair as there's always a food truck on the weekends hovering close by. Otherwise, what a great place. They've recently moved from their quaint former location to downtown not far from the Dahl's Arts Center and Rapid City Public Library, so you're close to all the cool cultural spots if you're on foot. Check it out, tourists. Their décor is wonderful. They hired local artisans to design the booths, woodwork. It's industrial and very cool, and I haven't even mentioned the brews yet, which are sensational. They have a little coffee shop in the side. It's brilliant Rapid City at its finest. EVERYONE IN RAPID CITY, GO TO HAY CAMP!!!! The brew is off the TAP!! This company was founded by a couple of PhD Grad students, so you can literally say these guys are the Doctors of Brew! This is an up and coming brewery and since the owners are still in graduate school the hours of operation are limited. Currently, they are only open on Saturdays from 4-8pm. Their own beer supply is on such high demand that they run out within the first couple hours, so be sure to get there early! (Also, there normally is a line formed before they even open the door) Even though they run out of their own brew, they do have other beers on tap if you want to just hang out and enjoy the atmosphere, which is pretty awesome! Be sure to like them on Facebook because they are constantly letting their customers know what new beers they will be serving and if their capacity of beer is growing! We were the only ones there but still a friendly fella behind the bar. Beers were all decent. Nothing really qualifies as shitty but nothing really grabbed me either.
