Like the vibe and the bread, not the biggest fan of the prices. The baguette and butter was my favorite dish of the night. The bread was airy with a fantastic crust, although it was a bit more reminiscent of a sourdough (I love sourdough). I will say that they have a decent happy hour menu. The fries were tasty and I liked the bit of crunchy on top of the deviled egg. I thought the portion of salmon was very small for the price. And the carrots and parsnips were tasty but very oily. The hubs and I came to catch up with friends over dinner. By far and away the customer service was the best part of our experience. Our server was really friendly and totally on it. We ordered the roasted rutabaga salad and tartare for starters along with the house made bread with butter. The bread and butter were perfect and the rutabaga was really good. For my main, I went with the salmon and lentils with butter rouge. The salmon was perfectly cooked. The only thing lacking was a bit of seasoning. The server brought me a side of flaky salt which was appreciated. The hubs opted for the duck leg which he thoroughly enjoyed. We skipped dessert but overall we had a lovely time. I was somewhat disappointed with the service; they were timely but the waitress seemed annoyed each time she came to the table. The food was flavorful. The duck was spicy, and almost so spicy I couldn't eat it. I wouldn't order it again for that reason. The French onion soup was decent, but nothing like I had expected from the reviews and $15 for a small cup of soup (not even a bowl) seems steep even for a nice restaurant. Maybe if the presentation was nicer or some bread was served with it, but not as it stands. I also wanted to order the caviar but they only do it in a spoon full, and when I asked if it came with a cracker or anything, I was told it did not. Overall 4/5 stars. Jacques in Denver has a lot of potential! The food was good, made with fresh ingredients, and the chef's quality and skill were evident in the presentation. However, the dishes were lacking seasoning--I've never had a more bland beef tartare. We went to Jacques for the first time when having friends visiting town. The evening started great! We had come from grabbing a cocktail next door so we were in great spirits. We got sat down and we had to wait a bit to be greeted which is fine. It's a busy night. However, the whole time our server made us feel unwelcomed? Like she didn't wanna help us or for us to be there. It was definitely uncomfortable. We debated about asking for a different server but as millennials we power through. As we were obviously ordering quite a bit, the server started to become nicer which is so annoying. What if we were saving up for a nice evening out? I feel like everybody deserves equal treatment. As for the food, the appetizers were amazing. The French onion soup was so tasty and the caviar bumps with the mini espresso martinis were super fun to do. The bone marrow dish was also fantastic. Our entrees were a bit of a dissappintment compared to the apps. My burger was okay but nothing amazing and our steak dish was also average. Overall, very mixed experience. read more

I am not sure why all the good reviews. Our experience was quite the opposite of what others have said on Yelp. First off, the hostess made us wait a long time and we noticed she was seating others that came in after us (not with a reservation). We asked her about this and she said she thought she had already helped us, so she had forgotten about us completely. The meal itself was a real disappointment. I had pork that was extremely chewy and tasted like a boiled shoe. The Brussels sprouts were burnt to a crisp and inedible. The only redeeming part of the meal was the bread and butter. Not at all worth what we paid for this meal. As far as ambiance goes. It was okay, reminded me of a generic Airbnb. Nothing really exciting or special. read more

I really want to give this place 3.5 stars. While there were some fantastic hits, there were a few misses as well. First off we went on a Sunday which is there all day Happy Hour. The doors don't open till 5pm. We had a great server who recommended some house favorites. A must try is the onion soup. As close to perfection as you can get. We ordered the pate and really it was a small serving that was way more mousse like than pate. There was some berries on top that really took away from the pate flavor. We also had the mussels which were a nice size and perfectly done. I think the broth could have had a little bit more flavor. The bread that came with the mussels was beautifully toasted and tasty. Alas the duck entry... loved the crispy skin and slight bbq taste. The duck sitting on Texas toast with a sweet sugary syrup was a total miss. I didn't understand the connection between the toast and the duck. The sliced zuchini that came with the duck was very vinegary and just not a good blend of flavors. Cute little unassuming spot in Lohi! My bf and I decided to try it out after seeing it walking by. We stopped in on a Sunday and they were doing all day happy hour which was awesome! We both got an aperol spritz which were great. We tried the caviar bump, burger, and the tater tots. Caviar was fresh and good, the tater tots were AMAZING! I would go back just for those. I wasn't a huge fan of the burger. The sauce was kind of sour on it and it still had pink throughout which I don't care for. The fries were very delicious too. I will say it was really hot in there. We were going to try more things on the menu but we were both uncomfortably hot. I also am not someone who needs AC blasting but it felt like it wasn't on at all! I definitely will be back to try more things on the menu though (and for those tots!) read more

This was my first time at Jacques and they had a limited menu but I didn't feel like I missed a thing!!! The restaurant gives a dark and moody vibe, great for a date night or a friends dinner. Our server was extremely attentive and prompt with everything we ordered. We had the escargot which was served in a puff pastry, a serving style I have not had before but was a great way to soak up all the sauce. Then we had the shared plate salad which was made with butter lettuce and not too overdressed (my usual complaint with salads). We also shared the pâté which was one of the best pâtés I have ever had. My aversion to pâté is because it normally has a strong iron flavor but Jacques serves theirs with a tart cherry compote on bottom and it is the perfect pairing to cut the normal metallic taste pâté can bring. I also appreciate the amount of bread they give you, it is more than enough for the pate. I finished my meal with the mussels. It was a generous portion and huge mussels. The sauce was perfectly brothy while still having a creamy mouth feel and again a generous portion of sourdough. No way I had room for dessert after. I am excited to go back, even if they didn't add a single thing to their menu I would be excited to go back and try some more! read more

We stumbled across this place trying to get into a local distillery. Even though they were slammed they managed to have two spots against a window (bar seating height). I can't remember what drink I got but it was yummy. Tart and not too sweet. We just wanted something light so we ordered escargot and mussels. Came here for a date with my husband the other night -- and we had a great time -- but just not QUITE five stars. I would recommend trying it right at 5pm when they open, and sitting at the bar for happy hour -- it's what I'd like to do next time. Overall spend: a little under $400 for 2 people, including a bottle of champagne. Service The service was amazing. If I could give our server Matt 10 stars, I would. He's probably one of the main reasons we had such a good night. We felt welcomed, given great suggestions, never forgotten, etc. Drinks Love love love the spicy mezcal cocktail I had. I want to come back for HH just to try more of their cocktails -- because the descriptions ALL seemed on point. Also, a very affordable bottle of grand cru champagne for $88 that we enjoyed. So not a crazy-priced bottle list. I was a bit surprised that there are no dessert cocktails or wines (e.g., Sauternes). Food Here is where I struggle just a little. The beet appetizer in a yogurt sauce was delicious, as was the French onion soup. Not crazy expensive either. Almost all the meat appetizers have lots of gluten, though (escargot with puff pastry, pâté with sourdough, tartar with crostini, rillette with toast, bone marrow with toast) -- which is probably to be expected from a French restaurant, but I usually see at least one GF alternative in Denver these days. HOWEVER, the chef was nice enough to do a cucumber & carrot side for our tartar instead of the crostini (so we greatly appreciate that). It still wasn't my favorite tartar: very dense meat (albeit good quality), but missing flavor -- mustard, pickles, something. The Bouillabaisse was a $75 shared dish, and quite beautiful -- but I've just had a lot of traditional French versions of this dish -- and it's supposed to have 3 kinds of fish, shellfish (often lobster if they're feeling fancy), some leeks and/or potatoes, etc. This one had prawns (which were admittedly huge), mussels, clams, and a tomato-based sauce (which was really hard to reach in this kind of deep pot it was served in). It's not that it wasn't enough food -- it just felt like a very simplified version of what it's supposed to be... for $75. I wish we'd maybe tried the chicken instead, because I probably just had too high of expectations for the Bouillabaisse. It DID make us get the potato pavé though (thinly sliced potato tower topped with caviar and crème), since the main was just the seafood -- and it was probably the best dish we had the whole night -- so at least there's that! read more

The ambiance of this place is so cute and modern! They open at 5 and happy hour is from 5-6 so we got there right when it opened. There were quite a few people waiting outside for them to open. We sat at the bar and got a few drinks and snacks from the happy hour menu. Everyone was super nice and helpful. Excited for this new spot in the neighborhood. French bistro is a welcome addition. Atmosphere and food was a miss. It was incredibly loud, I couldn't hear what my hubby was saying, we had to lean in and yell. The food: Beets were very acidic, not a fan of vinegar. The dressing was not balanced and I couldn't taste the horseradish. The chicken liver mouse was delicious. There was way too much bread for the amount they served. The pairing was overpowering. The scallops were nicely cooked and served, but first round was severely over salted. They redid them but was annoying. My husband liked the burger. The fries were a bit soggy. Overall I'm hoping the fix these issues and rotate the menu with new additions. read more

There is something to be said about a French restaurant that has people who speak French. Transports you a bit. Food wise, get the steak tartare. Hands down. The hazelnut was a surprising and welcome addition to the Hamachi. The mushrooms were magic but feel like more of a side or addition to something else. Cheese plate was rich creamy and delicious. I came here with two girl friends for a belated birthday dinner. We arrived during happy hour, so we were able to order two happy hour cocktails, as well as a $35 bottle of Malbec to share. The Aperol spritz was nice and refreshing, and the Malbec was good as well. We ordered nine dishes total, which was A LOT of food for three people. We had the steak tartare and French onion soup (both on the happy hour menu), the mussels, the freshly baked French bread, the panzanella salad, the steak frites, the duck confit, the salmon, and the lemon tart for dessert. Everything was delicious and cooked perfectly! The standouts for me were the fresh bread, the French onion soup, and the panzanella salad. Even with the happy hour discounts, the meal was about $100 per person, which makes sense given how much food we ordered. Our server was friendly and attentive. We went here for my wife's birthday dinner, and they made our occasion absolutely perfect. This is the old LoHi Steakhouse, but they made it much more spacious feeling on the reopening. They also purchased the next door place that I think used to be a bakery, and Jacques will be making it an event or large group or something room. Noah made us feel welcome at the door, and Jerome was on point from the moment we sat down at the bar. We sat at the bar until our reservation, and they have some really good HH drink and food specials to check out. I got a craft beer for $6, and martini's were $10. Both reasonable for the atmosphere and food you are enjoying. We ordered the pate at the bar, and it was mouthwatering. Kathy was our server at our table and she gave us perfect service. Efficient and welcoming. I had the burger and I have to still think about where I rank this one. Very high. It is a perfect serving size and has fantastic taste. Note that if you are one of those people who judges a burger on size than this won't be for you. I found it perfect. Wife got the steak and frites and the steak, per her, was "some of the steak I have had at a place in quite a while." She ordered it rare plus, so you know. I agree that it was fairly awesome. They had a fried egg aioli that was ridiculous. I also want everyone to be on the upcoming brunch alert, as I assume they will be rolling out some more awesomeness. Exceptional dining experience Came early to grab a cocktail at the bar. The bar was full so we were greeted by the hostess who offered to seat us at our table early. The footprint is a very nice with ample comfortable seating with an adjacent event space. The design is classic and beautiful. The vibe is relaxed, warm and welcoming. We were greeted by Cathy our server who was friendly and informative. We ordered some classic cocktails and one of the house specials. All were well crafted. We enjoyed a hot French baguette /butter with our drinks which was delicious. We were a four top and decided to share small plates. We were asked to place our entire order at the onset. This usually makes me nervous but it allowed the kitchen to shine. All the food was presented in a perfectly timed sequence.Each one was excellent. We enjoyed glazed carrots, beets, salad, cheese plate, escargot and of course French onion soup. The escargot was served in a puff pastry. The cheese plate was a triple cream slice of heaven. The onion soup had perfectly caramelized onions with tasty broth ( perfect salt level) delicious melted cheese. The wine list had excellent selections of which we happily availed ourselves to complement our appetizers and entrees. We shared a 24 ounce bone in ribeye that was perfectly cooked medium rare with a perfect sear and tasty crust. The steak was sliced so it was easy to share. I'm a carnivore and this was the best ribeye,quality of beef ,quality of cook and presentation I have ever had. It had an exquisite bordelaise sauce on the side. We had aligot potatoes, French cheesy,silky,buttery heavenly. We shared a pot de creame which did not disappoint. They did not offer coffee service so we shared espresso martinis The front of the house worked seamlessly with the kitchen staff to offer a tremendous experience. Dined at 7:30pm on Wednesday March 6th. tl;dr - good ideas that fell apart on the execution. Fast casual food presented as fine dining. The bartender, the host, multiple food runners and waiters walked past us for at least 15 minutes. The waiter who ended up seeing us sitting in desperation saved our last evening in Denver. He was charming, apologetic, and we had a great time chatting with him. He took our order accurately, and the service he provided was fantastic. My cocktail tasted like just straight bourbon. Until I drank most of the bourbon, and the ice melted (an hour later) revealing that my last sips were sickeningly sweet like drinking straight honey. The idea of flavoring the drink via an ice cube is not new, but you can't put all the flavor in the ice, and if you do, you can't use one giant cube that melts so slowly that it isn't enjoyed with the drink. The fries were good, but pretty plain. The garlic mayo might have been homemade, but the Heinz ketchup was boring. It's not hard or expensive to make a compelling dipping sauce. The beets were very plain. Both the yogurt and the beets didn't have anything surprising or interesting. Some herbs, spice, zest or anything to make it more than a smear of plain yogurt with plain red roasted beets on top would have been nice. The cook on the cod was good, but the dish was very poorly seasoned. The sauce was weak, again lacking basic seasoning, and very much in need of a little acid to keep it from tasting so flat. Not only that, but it was thin, lacking enough body to cling to the already lean fish. The leaks were not only under cooked, they were sandy grinding between my teeth. Leaks should be washed in deep water, agitated and scooped off the top leaving the sand behind at the bottom of the water. The cook on the chicken was good (it's not science to cook chicken this way), but once again the overall seasoning of the dish left me wishing there was salt and pepper on the table. The apples under the chicken were mushy and flat tasting - they needed salt and acid. The fennel was a little thick on the chicken. When shaving the fennel one should avoid the overly fibrous core of the base. The star of this dish was the brown butter. Seriously, the chicken and the brown butter alone would have left a better impression on me. By this point we gave up on the quality of the food, and looked elsewhere for dessert. If the expectations are high end dining, as signaled by the photos of your presentation and your prices, then the execution has got to be better. I would have been satisfied with the food at a fast casual bar, but it was a huge miss at this price point. read more

I asked for a small table and was told by the manager that I could have a high top or sit at the bar. I have a bad back and didn't want to sit on barstool but figured that they had a lot of reservations coming in so.... I just sat uncomfortably. I was there an hour and the place only filled up probably a dozen more people. Not even 1/4 full. Service was great. French onion soup was one of the best I ever ever had. The baguette was good but extremely overpriced at $10 for a 11" baguette. The pork tenderloin was tender but way too salty. Much more salt and I would have sent it back. read more

We came to commensurate our fallen fathers who died for our country on a holy night for our family and country. The service was attentive even at their busiest. It was noisy but we enjoyed the buzz. The baguette and butter came quickly and was great. I wanted the place to be completely great, but the food missed on a couple of dishes. Our croquettes were just a bit overcooked with a slightly burnt taste. The beets were good, but not awesome. The mushrooms were inconsistent in that the buttery goodness was fine on one end of the plate but absent on the other end. The mussels are great and we ended with that. In this neighborhood you have to be near-perfect to get 5 stars. There's room for improvement and I realize it is a new place, so I hope they can deliver. Food was fantastic, but our experience was ruined by one of the rudest servers we've ever encountered. We started by asking about one of the wines (a French Malbec) on the menu. The response given was "I hate Malbec". I then mentioned that I did not care for Argentinian Malbec but generally liked the French ones. My hope was that I would get a little more information from her about this particular wine, so we could make a decision. Instead, her response was "well, do you want it or not?". Amazing experience! I've been wanting to try Jacques since they opened and was finally able to make it in tonight. The space is very chic yet cozy and the staff was amazing. Matt was our waiter and provided some of the friendliest and most attentive service I've ever had! In regards to food, everything was incredible! Came with a group so tried a few things (and there was nothing we didn't love). For small plates, we really loved the beets, pâté, and the steak tartare. For entrees, the mussels were some of the best I've ever had- super fresh and flavorful. The steak frites was also amazing and cooked perfectly. Overall 10/10 service and 10/10 meal. Everything was fantastic... from the fresh from the oven sourdough bread service, to every appetizer ( yes, we ordered them all.) The salads were fresh and vibrant. All but the wedge, reminded me of the French country side. But the wedge was excellent too. The caviar was delicious, briny, cold, and popped beautifully with each bite. The Beef Tartare was exquisite... as was the Steak Frites... cooked perfectly as a rare delight. Every dessert was a perfect cap to the three hours we were there. My son enjoyed the cappuccino martinis, and I, the vodka extra dirty (filthy!) martinis... incredible. Our waiter was knowledgeable, attentive but not intrusive, ever.
