This place is THEEEEE SPOT! It's a little small so be patient if your intention is to sit down, but once you have a spot and are able to eat in, you won't be disappointed. We've had almost all their dumplings and it's so incredibly fresh and savory; their green beans are delicious, we can eat their green beans till they run out lol!

My cousin had never been here before so it was a treat to be able to share one of my favorite spots with her! We came for a late lunch around 2 pm so it wasn't too crowded and we were immediately seated. Since this was her first time, we decided to do an assortment of dumplings, XLB, Szechuan cold noods and scallion pancakes (forgot to take a pic). They have beverages available in the fridge but I opted for some hot tea. It's so nice to spend quality time with family eating comfort food. It's a small little hole in the wall but it's clean, cozy and the staff takes care of you. As I promised Joanne, I will be back more often and will need to satisfy my beef noodle soup cravings next time!

    Mala xiang guo

I was sold as soon as I saw that they pull their own noodles. Review done! All jokes aside, my lunch was great today. I had dan dan noodles and soup dumplings. I was initially thinking about getting mala xiang guo a.k.a. dry hot pot, but thought I'd start with something I'm more familiar with. The place is adorably tiny, shoehorning 10 tables tops. I can see how some people might feel super claustrophobic, but I happen to like snug places. It was super charming imo. It was super weird when I walked in though. There were three tables of customers dining, but no staff to be found for a good couple minutes in the hall. I had to stand around, snooping behind the curtain to see if I can grab someone's attention from the back. A couple bus boys came out to grab drinks, but didn't say hi, or any sort of acknowledgment. Some folks would have thought this to be a red flag, but if you've been to enough traditionally Asian run places, this is nothing new. Doesn't bother me much. I ended up succeeding in grabbing the waiter's attention, who I think was in the back, packing a to-go order. C'est la vie. As I already mentioned, I sat down and ordered dan dan noodles and xiao long bao. I knew it was too much food, but the intention was to take home some leftover dumplings. So. Naturally, the noodles in dan dan were great! I generally love the chewiness of noodles and pastas when they're made fresh, and this wasn't any different. People generally expect the noodle to be medium-thin to medium, and this version was definitely more on the thicker side, which I didn't mind at all. Also worth mentioning is that Katy's version of dan dan is soup-based, not the traditional dry-tossed version. Personally, I enjoyed this version very much, especially because it was a very chilly, windy day in Chicagoland. The soup definitely helped warm me up. What I liked about the soup was that even though the brightly red nature of the soup's look gave me the impression it was going to be uber spicy and oily, it really wasn't. I found their mala profile to be greatly balanced to enjoy the slight numbness on my tongue, but without overpowering rest of other spices. The xiao long bao was good. I personally thought it could have used a tiny bit more soup filling, but I've definitely had my mouth burnt by scorching hot soup filling before, so it's a wash. I personally liked the slightly thick nature of the skin, but I can see how some people might not appreciate it. What I appreciated most was the taste balance of meat fillings. Whatever ingredients went inside did a great job of nullifying any meat stink, as well as elevated slight sweetness and savoriness. All in all, it was a great first impression. I'm definitely looking forward to coming back to try some other items.

Katy's dumpling is an amazing spot to get dumplings and hand crafted Chinese food in the neighborhood. They have a mom and pop ambiance and can have a wait but are totally worth it because everything we tried was absolutely delicious. I recommend the Dan Dan noodles and the soup dumplings both were very fresh and delicious!

The food is yummy. They cook super fast, the rice cake is chewy, dumplings are very good and what they are known for. But general Tso chicken $15 was too spicy and no flavor. The mixed vegetables for $15 only had broccoli, bok choy, carrots, and a lot of oil. Disappointing. Pulled noodles and dumplings are what you should buy here. This is a small place in a strip mall w about 10 tables.

The soup dumplings are very good! The pan fried pork Napa are okay. Green beans are okay. My husband felt indifferent about the pork buns. The shrimp fried rice was good. Small place but the soup dumplings are worth it. A bit pricey.

I saw this place on social media and I was so happy I decided to try it. I'm already a huge fan of dumplings and this place hit the spot. Even though the place itself is small, it's very cozy. Will be RAVING to my friends and family because this is such an underrated spot.

10/1/25 update: I came here because my girlfriend was craving it. Honestly, the food is great but they mostly cater to white people. I think it's pretty obvious when you walk in and want to dine in. Lol. We were the only Asian customers there. I usually go to Chef Junes, SY Chef, or that international mall in Westmont. For the update, we ordered past favorites like the beef napa dumplings, beef tendon noodle soup, and pork belly cabbage soup (new). Dumplings were still tasty. The beef tendon noodle soup was just as good as before. The pork belly noodle soup is slightly sour but it's good. Plenty of noodles and pork belly. Service was fast. The rating is still the same.

I walked in right after lunch time so the seats were almost all filled but I got one. I had heard about them for so long. Finally I was able to try them! I was sat down and they asked me what I wanted to drink but didn't come back with it for a long while. They didn't put utensils down either for me. Everyone else after me who came in for both of those as soon as they sat down. So I was a little confused if I had to get up and get it myself or they just forgot me. I got sesame chicken, Chung du dumplings and shrimp and chive dumplings. Sesame chicken was meh. It was fried so hard that it took a harder bite to bite into it. Broccoli was okay. It came with a bowl of rice. I would not recommend. But the start for me were the dumplings!! The Chung du dumplings were a hit for me! The sauce was salty, sour, vinegary and spicy. It was very addictive. I want to buy that sauce and put it on everything. I had a friend recommend noodles so I'll come back and try that and get another dish of Chung du dumplings. It was a small place so avoid lunch rush since most of the seats were filled. I'd come back to try more.

I was in the area and decided to stop by here and order the shrimp dumplings, and Dan Dan noodles to go. The shrimp dumplings were good. I regret not purchasing some frozen ones. I did not care at all for the Dan Dan noodles. There was hardly any meat. I might've gotten 2 tablespoons of meat. It was also very spicy for my taste and oily. The noodles by themselves

Free Parking lot parking. No alcohol. Excellent customer service. Quick service and a pretty busy establishment for pick up. Inside is smaller but has family vibes. I ordered soup dumplings...3 were broken already but still tasty. Sauteed green beans which were the perfect crunch that I liked with rice. I wish it was a small order but hey I had left overs. I also ordered a dry pot that came with veggies ( broccoli, green pepper, mushrooms or tofu, and beef, chicken, shrimp and pork. I opted out on the pork butt the dish was fresh and hot in temperature. The flavors were delicious as nothing tasted heavily salted even though meant flavors were tickling my palate. I'm a dumpling lover and they had plenty of options to try. I would definitely return. Reasonably priced for good quality eating.

Closer to 3.5. I would love to give Katy's a higher rating. Really I would. But it just wasn't all that. The staff was very friendly and happily accommodated a minor special request. Our water glasses were kept filled and service was prompt. Keep in mind that restaurant is small, maybe about 7 4-tops, so if you come during busy times there can be a wait. The food. Sigh. I so wanted to like it more than I did. We ordered the Chen Du dumplings and the Beef Noodle soup. Both were just okay. The dumplings were seasoned well but the wrappers were thick and doughy. The soup didn't taste like much of anything. The broth looked rich but had little flavor beyond some minor heat. There was no discernible flavor of star anise, either. My partner did not think that noodles were actually hand pulled. He could be right. If I lived nearby I would probably return occasionally but I don't feel it's worth a drive.

Small place but kind employees. The dumplings were homemade and fresh and the beef soup was very flavorful.

It has definitely seen better days: still open but very empty (of customers, of vendors, of products). There are a variety of dishes to choose from 4 different vendors on the first floor. I enjoy coming here every so often to treat myself and my family to authentic dishes that are hard to find elsewhere, particularly stinky tofu, ba wan (Taiwanese meatball), oyster omelet, and pig blood soup. It is a food court. You are expected to return the tray and empty dishes back to designated areas. Although not required, I've never seen anyone do otherwise. The bathrooms are small and could use additional lighting in my opinion. Parking, you asked? Yes, there is a large parking lot. It is easily accessed from Route 83 (Kingery Hwy) or Ogden Avenue. On this particular visit, 988 Oriental Food House was closed. Reopening date is May 30, 2023.

It's a decent size food court, but many of the stalls were closed. Chinese Cafe was open, and became a bit busier after us. Most of the customers were non-Asian, but have read that the food court becomes quite busy with ethnic Chinese during the weekend. I was greeted in Cantonese, and even when I responded back in English, our conversation continued in that way. It ended up being fruitful, with an initial order of two lunch plates. I later came back to order a soup from the neighboring dumpling house, both being served by the same front of house. L13. Double cooked pork. L14. Mongolian Beef. ($9.25 each). Comes with choice of fried rice or white rice, egg roll, and can of soda (Coke Zero in our case). The high heat wok cooking really makes a big difference, with the smokiness in both the meats and vegetables that I really love. Can't get that at Panda Express. All the vegetables were sliced/diced with care: really loved the sliced onion in the mongolian beef, actually more than the beef itself. And the sliced pork loin was the perfect amount, with a really fragrant brown sauce that my wife enjoyed. Beef Noodle Soup ($11.95) - a good dish, with a large amount of springy noodles in a decent dark broth. It had plenty of large beef shank chunks, decently tender. It's a good rendition of beef noodle soup, especially at this price. You self bus (which is fine if only disposable items, but not so good when having to return soup bowls that stack up due to not being cleared). The food court definitely has symptoms of being not busy: not clean bathrooms and tables, and a general malaise of nobody really 'caring'. But we found the food to be good and of great value.
