I pretty much crave Jade Garden mandarin chicken whenever I get paid. I think it's a Pavlovian response by now. The servings are kind of big and I can't always finish it within a couple of days, and I have to toss it. But still. Yum. I've tried a couple other dishes; the one that comes to mind is the Thai noodles. Not that great -- a little too sweet and coconut-milky for me. Also, not such a fan of the chow mein. So maybe I only like the mandarin chicken, but I'm ok with that. read more

I have been here several times 7-10 years ago. I was really looking forward to it this visit and I was very disappointed. The food tasted reheated and was luke warm. I got item A and the won ton soup was salty, the sweet and sour (chicken or pork not sure) was disgusting and tasted old and re heated, the rice was ok, but cold like everything else, the chicken chow main looked like soup and tasted off. Food hasn't changed. I've been a customer since 1996. Yesterday there was a mix up in an order to go. We drove a total of over 80 miles to deal with this. We are (extreme) seniors. When I called the order in, I asked the girl to read it back. She did and gave me a total. When my husband picked it up, the total was different and she just read off the items, did not check the inside. Bottom line, we got more than we ordered and the rice was missing. Calling back to the restaurant I finally got the manager. He was rude and disrespectful, asking WELL, WHAT DO YOU WANT? When I went to pick up a refund, he peeked around a corner and had a young girl bring me the money he owed me. Didn't even have the customer respect to deal with me himself. After all these years, that manager lost the business of two senior citizens who always brought any visitors and friends to their restaurant. We were driving through helena and went to this place as it was closest to Walmart. The lady serving us was brimming with excitement and energy. She was courteous, took time to explain the menu very clearly. Thai Curry noodle is tasty and has a huge portion size. Two of us could have shared one of this dish. The Plum sauce pork with rice dish is ok. We did notice that all four mains had roughly the same set of veggies. I think their chef needs to slightly modify this generous addition of same vegetable pack to dishes. read more

Vegetarian review: I called tonight for take-out and ordered the orange tofu, fried rice, and vegetarian springs rolls, just as I have for years. A few minutes thereafter, the woman who took my order called me back to tell me that they can't make orange tofu anymore, they could only do that dish with chicken. I explained that I had ordered this same thing for years, and there had never been an issue before. I asked her if they had tofu, and she said yes. I then asked if they had the orange sauce, and she said they did. I then asked why, then, they couldn't put those two things together. She replied that the menu has recently changed; at that point, I realized we weren't going to get anywhere, so I didn't tell her that I have been to their restaurant several times since they reopened, and they had never declined my order before. So I canceled my order and took my $17 and $5 tip (which is pretty generous for take-out!) to Domino's. Spoiler alert: Domino's made me a Hawaiian pizza without meat, and cost $10 less. So I definitely got the message that Jade Garden doesn't want my business. Moreover, I can only assume that they must now pre-make all their food if they aren't able to make simple substitutions. read more

I took my daughter out for a daddy daughter evening here and everything was okay until i was eating my Mongolian beef and it got caught in my throat a piece of meat was stuck to a hair I started pulling the hair and the meat came out of my throat the manager was watching this with a horrified look on her face she came over to me and started apologizing and offered me another meal to take home with me and said she would handle it from there not sure if the problem got fixed but that was my experience here read more

Good service! Great Food! Little pricey but for the portions its almost worth it! They also have a really nice atmosphere!

Over the years we have eaten at the Jade Garden with our friends at least a hundred times. The portions are large, so we typically order about half as many dishes as the number in our group, six or seven dishes for ten of us; that really brings down the price per person. Spicy "orange beef" is always on our list, but with the steamed or fried rice there is always plenty. The service is prompt and professional. If you enjoy Chinese food, this is the place to go! read more

I had an out-of-town guest a few years back whom I took there for dinner. I had not been before then but always heard it was pretty good. But my dining experience was only mediocre. The decor/ambiance is sort of bland as is the food. In fact, I probably will not go back even though this town doesn't have too many oriental restaurants. But the china buffet place was better and the staff more friendly over there too. Somehow the service was tepid too in keeping with other aspects of the experience. In the end because of the foregoing, I thought it was also over-priced. One star! read more

The sever my friend and I had was extremely nice and friendly. The food was such a let down. First of all, the portions you get for dinner did not match the large portions I received for take out a while back. The take out was amazing! When we went in a couple of weeks ago my friend and I ordered the combo meal. I ordered orange chicken and some vegtible mix with chicken. The orange chicken was fried hard, I cannot belive the cook would serve that. It was obviously well over done. It ruined the meal. The chicken breading should be a little soft. The next chicken dish had maybe seven peices of small thinly cut chicken and it was very soupy. I think if the House of Wong's opened back up the owners of the Jade Garden would start caring again. My wife and I visited Jade Garden today for the first time. The hostess sat us and then we waited 20 minutes without our waitress coming to bring us water or take our order. After being completely ignored for 20 minutes we got up and left. I can't speak for the quality of their food but the customer service was what forces me to give a bad rating. read more

My third visit to this restaurant in the past couple of months. I love Chinese but I can only give it three stars. The food was good but not great. I ordered the Orange chicken and while the sauce was good the chicken was overcooked and as a result pretty dry. My wife ordered the Curry chicken and had to send it back to be redone as it was way to spicy to eat. It came back delicious. Service staff was very nice and accommodating. read more

This is industrial chinese food. Large portions of over cooked dishes with mediocre flavor that looks like it's been prepared very early in the day. Service was average. The salad was served with old, brown lettuce. I returned it and was provided a better product. You're in the wrong restaurant if you're looking for quality, authentic chinese food. read more

After being closed due to fire, the Jade Garden has reopened with a very similar menu. We have sampled almond chicken, moo goo beef, fried rice and the soups. All dishes were improved. If you are looking for American style Chinese cuisine, you won't be disappointed. read more

Back when my wife and I lived in Helena this was one of our favorite places to eat. Try both the saki and the plum wine. Although The service at the front door was ALWAYS terrible, before you get to sit and enjoy your meal, you had to listen to teenage girls gossip and ignore you for 5 to 10 minutes. I've never understood the fascination with this place. The food tastes like it's LaChoy out of a can- I can get it a lot cheaper at a grocery store. They also claim the "noise level" is quiet? Most of the time I think I just walked into McDonald's. The only reason I go there from time to time is because a number of my friends like the place, so I endure it. And the only time I've ever seen the owner smile is on the TV commercial- otherwise I've never seen her in a friendly state of mind. Once we had a very friendly waiter, so that helped make that trip there a lot nicer. Overall, though, it's two thumbs down from me. read more

The 3 stars are for the food and the dine in service. The service you get at the front counter for takeout orders leaves a lot to be desired. They definitely need to work on their customer service skills. We've ordered three different times and it has been the same. There are usually 3 or 4 young girls standing around and they act like you are interrupting their day and are usually kind of rude. The re-opened Jade Garden is definitely not the same. We have tried old and new dishes and like some things but found that some of the old stand-by items are not so good anymore. I can adapt to change but I must relate the disgusting food handling procedures we encountered. The hostess "clawed" our water glasses using all of her fingers to contaminate our drinking edge of the glass. The proper way to serve a beverage is from handling the bottom half. The top half of the glass is for the guest. The server had her thumb inside each soup bowl as she passed the bowls out to everyone. One of our egg rolls looked liked it had been fried over three times or forgotten in the fryer. REALLY??? Why would you even bring something that looked like that out to the guest? I am glad we only stopped in for an after school snack. I can only imagine what other surprises we would have encountered had we ordered more! Our server did a good job and was very pleasant. I feel it was lack of training on proper food service procedures that contributed to our unsatisfactory experience. read more

I travel extensively in Montana, but stay most often in Helena. The Jade Garden is the best chinese food I have had in the state. I stay in Motels over 100 days a year in Montana, and as a result eat out frequently. I don't think Helena has a large variety of restaurants, or very many good ones, however the Jade is excellent. I like their lunch specials, the service is usually very prompt and good. Many dinner items can be shared. I highly recommend it. I have never had a bad meal there. read more

I know it has just recently reopened, but my visit was terrible. Could not get through on the phone to order takeout so I went there to place my order. I was told 30 to 35 minutes would be the wait time. It took one hour and 20 minutes to call my name and say my order was ready. I was told that everything was in the bag so I made the mistake of accepting the assurance. Got home and instead of having 4 entrees, there were only two and only one was what I ordered. Only defense was that the place was a mob scene and they were clearly not prepared to handle the volume of takeout and dine in customers. At one time Jade Garden was really good. Sadly it has gone downhill. I've had lunch there on several occasions and the service has been slow and food has been lukewarm when served. Tonight I stopped for some takeout. Got home and found no sweet and sour for my egg roll. This has happened on more than one occasion when something from my order has been missing. Food lacked flavor and overall was not worth what I paid. Also, if the bathrooms are any indication of what the kitchen looks like I may never eat there again. read more

This restaurant used to have the finest meals available in Helena MT, since it reopened after the fire the menu has changed for the worse. The wait staff are some of the rudest I've ever encountered and I've spent 30 years in the hospitality industry. Recently after eating at this establishment my wife and I both believe we contracted food poisoning, Fifteen minutes after eating we both experienced EXPLOSIVE DIARRHEA AND SEVERE VOMITING after eating the same entree! We were both healthy and feeling fine before eating, one can only assume that there were some bad shrimp in the dish. It was a terrible thing to experience. I would advise extreme caution when eating here and highly recommend another establishment as there are many to choose from in Helena. Thanks for your time. read more
