I have never in my life gone out of my way to leave a negative review on a business. I will give the kitchen feedback if I'm dissatisfied by something but never leave a review. I would call to give the kitchen my feedback but this was actual dogshit. I just spent 64 dollars on the dancing eel roll, Thai green curry, seafood miso soup, soft shell crab, and king salmon roll. Not fucking worth it, not a single thing. Firstly, all of the food was thrown into the bag with ZERO care. Soup leaking into the bottom of the bag turned sideways. Soft shell crab was completely upside down in the bag. And rolls were also on their side. Secondly, one of these cooks left their male pattern baldness all over my food. Softshell crab, salmon roll, AND the dancing eel roll had hairs on them. I understand being frustrated with bad genetics or age but that doesn't mean you gotta drop it on my food so I can deal with it too! Third, both of the sushi rolls we got were dry as all HELL as if they were left out for hours. I got food poisoning from Nagoya from the last time I got sushi and was hoping for something better and was severely disappointed. I'd honestly choose the food poisoning and decent sushi over whatever the fuck I got from this place. I'm known for eating whatever will fill my stomach regardless of how sketchy, but I couldn't finish anything I ordered from this place. I'm honestly shocked I didn't vomit into the curry but that honestly could have made it more tolerable. I kept on trying something else PRAYING that it would taste better than the last. It didn't. Crab tasted like unfiltered fryer. The orange in the side salad was alright, although that also had a hair on it. read more

Extremely average sushi. It was really not that great. The California had a straight up krab stick in it. The single combo that was supposed to come with 3 pieces of sashimi came with 3 pieces of seared tuna - it looked like leftovers. My husband's beef fried rice was really, really average. The rice was clumped together and the beef was dry and tough. The fish lacked color and was clearly thawed from frozen. My stomach hurt after. Service was good, and the place is cute. I've been coming here off and on for the last 6 years, (sushi only) and I've never had a bad experience. The service is always prompt and has been unwavering in politeness and professionalism. Suki Cafe is probably the only place in the state of Montana that offers AYCE, they have it for both lunch and dinner and the price is very reasonable. Fish is good and the rolls are quite decent. Your standard selection and fun locally themed rolls. Last go around the miso was jam packed with flavor and extra heavy on the tofu (we like this!) Conveniently located next to a parking garage with options for street parking as well. I'm grateful for Suki Cafe and hope it enjoys many more years of business and success to come. read more

So we used to love this place and the former owner always made us feel like we were at home. After our experience last night we will never go back! We called in an order for take out and showed up a few minutes early. I had my service dog with me as I always do so I thought I would be polite and sit on patio. My wife was told we can't sit out there cuz they are closing in 30 minutes and they don't want dogs in the restaurant. Instead of arguing with him we waited outside for the order and felt very unwelcomed and quite uncomfortable! I asked my wife if we should just leave but she wanted to wait for the food. The guy with the LA hat brings the food outside to us as we discuss never returning there but we are on the fence cuz it is one of our favorite places. We sit down around the corner to eat and there are NO NAPKINS. I go back to ask for napkins and the same guy tells me we don't give out napkins for take out orders??? At first I thought he was joking and then he said he was serious!! That is when we knew we would never return. I guess that's how they treat their customers in LA. Got takeout from here, which I would definitely recommend as it was pretty busy inside. The hostesses was very nice and recommended some good things on the menu. I hot gyoza and drunken noodles. The gyoza was good, especially with the sauce it came with. The drunken noodles didn't look great but the chicken was surprisingly tasty. My only complaint is that there were maybe too many onions but I asked for no mushrooms and they listened, which is always really nice. Lots of traffic and actively offering discounts for vets, healthcare, and state employees. Knew lots of names( must be a loyal following). Cozy seat by the fireplace. Good food. Enjoyed chicken pad thai (spice level 1) be careful here, it was THE hottest level 1 we have ever experienced! Have eaten at Suki many times over the years. Lately we have been disappointed in our experience. The food is still full of flavor and fresh. While the service has been subpar, from our perspective the issues center in the kitchen and communication. The appetizers came out sporadically, then the last was served with my son's soup and meal. Common occurrence in our experiences someone watched everyone else eat as their meal came out very late. Another commonality was the sushi order either didn't get put in or it was extremely delayed to the rest of our meal. It appears having appetizers, sushi and entrees is not coordinated/timed. It's really unfortunate to report that this is THE worst food I've ever had! I've given this restaurant a chance several times & each time it's gotten worse & worse. I recognize that they put a lot of effort into making this a classy restaurant but their food is anything but the "best." They serve 3 different cuisines, none of which are good. Their menu is all over the place, & the energy in the restaurant always seems to trigger chaos in our party. But OK, let's start with the aps: the calamari was so over fried it had no flavor & the squid practically evaporated. The sauce that accompanied this dish was decent but not good enough to mask how tasteless the batter on the calamari is. The Thai fresh roll was like it was rolled by the dishwasher. None of the ingredients were prepared properly. The carrots were hella thick, they use the wrong noodle type & the peanut sauce was as thicker than molasses. I could barely eat it. After one piece I was done. The gyoza is OK. Probably one of the only aps that were cooked properly. The Pad See-Ew had a sauce that was WAY to sugary. I really liked the shrimp. I thought those were cooked properly but even my 7 yr old daughter refused to eat the noodles because they were TOO sweet. She was right. I thought the salmon on the nigiri was a little on the cheap side & the rice had an unpleasnt sour/sweet flavor to it. I get that fresh salmon is hard to come by over here but don't serve it if you can't do it right. I've tried various rolls all of which are barely passable. This trip we had the Dancing Eel Roll & it seemed good at first but the shrimp (again) was overcooked so it took away from how delicate the roll should taste. Everything we ordered was inedible. It was such an uncomfortable experience that we just packed everything up & went home. Because the food was so horrible it never made it out of the bag & ended up in the trash. Such a shame, $75 literally down the drain. In addition to offering horrible food, it's also way over priced. If the food tasted good, it would justify the price. Guys, this may seem harsh but authentic Japanese restaurants take PRIDE in their rolls. They source the best ingredients & each roll is put together with precision. Suki Cafe presents a good example of why you shouldn't mix cuisines. Either serve Chinese food, Thai food or stick to Japanese, but serving all Asian foods ever is not paying off. We got there when they opened so we pretty much had the place to ourselves. Very nice service people. We ordered soup to start with. Tom Yum (Thai spicy sour soup with your choice of Chicken, Shrimp, or Seafood) and Tom Kha (Tom Yum with Coconut Milk choice of Chicken, Shrimp, or Seafood). Both fantastic! Then we went with Drunken Fried Rice and Sushi: Philadelphia Roll, Firecracker Roll, and Tornado Roll. Of course, we took a bunch home for the next day...still delicious. After visiting Montana's capitol, we decided to have sushi for a late lunch. There were only two options so we gave Suki Cafe a chance. We chose to eat outside to enjoy the nice weather. They were not busy at all so the service was fast and friendly. We had a couple of Kirin beers with a couple of veggie sushi rolls - avocado and cucumbers. They had too much rice, but enough veggies to balance it out. They had a lunch menu which we ordered from and the server made sure it was vegan. She said they could veganize all the dishes except the Pad Thai because the sauce had fish sauce already. We found out later that the Miso soup that comes with the lunch menu isn't vegan either. My husband had the Garlic black pepper with tofu which was supposed to be sautéed garlic pepper with steam vegetables. He got 2 broccoli florets, 2 thin carrot slices and a few pieces of cabbage... that was all the "steam vegetables" he got. Not worth $10. I got the Spicy Thai Basil (stir-fried basil, onion, bell peppers and mushrooms). There were lots of onions and bell peppers, but 4 pieces of mushrooms... one whole mushroom! It wasn't spicy at all and the basil flavor was non existent. The flavors were good though. The outdoor area was clean, but uneven floor made it challenging to keep tall glasses and bottles from falling. The service was fast. I recommend this place if looking for vegan food considering the options in Helena. read more

The only positive I have is that the food came fast through Door Dash. (It came fast because it wasn't fresh.) Food arrived cold. We received only 1 small portion of white rice with 2 entrees, and our entrees were less than 1/2 the container full. WAY TOO OVERPRICED for the small amount and poor quality of food received. So disappointed I want to cry!!! This was my most favorite place to go (as a whole food PLANT based eater). Although there aren't a ton of vegan options, what they do have is delish! Unfortunately the last time I was there I had a horrible experience!!! When taking my order I kept repeating that we eat a plant based vegan diet (we had a different waitress than usual) and she assured me our order would be. After almost finishing her entire plate my daughter asked me what an item was on her plate. I spent most of my life eating meat so I well know what it looks like. Her plate had pork mixed in with her noodles and sauce! That's not the WORST of it. When I mentioned to the waitress what we had found she took the plate back to the kitchen. Upon return she stood her ground on the lie that it was egg!!! Seriously!? I told her (in a very kind way) that, no, this is pork, that egg does not hold together the way this meat does (I even picked it up and was pulling the muscle fibers apart in front of her as she is holding the plate)..... nope, she stood her ground that it was egg!! I was speechless at that point!! I couldn't believe that she was standing there lying to me about what was obviously cooked pork on our plate!! Besides we asked for a vegan meal, they shouldn't have even put egg in it. Before leaving I examined the ticket where she wrote the order and not one note that the order was supposed to be vegan!! It's one thing to make a mistake and apologize, it's another to sit and lie about it. I'm so sad to say I can't eat there any more... TRUST is huge when someone else is making your food... unsure of whether it was the cook, or the waitress who encouraged such behavior, my TRUST has been broken here. read more

I like Suki Cafe in Helena. I like the food and the space. My only concern is the inconsistency of the service. I have been here several times. And. My experience has been that of frustration with the servers more often than not. It may be that the times I am usually there are during lunch when I have a limited amount of time. I usually let them know that. This is not enough of a concern to discontinue my frequenting Suki. It is enough of a concern to let people know so that you can ensure you have enough time to eat without being rushed or frustrated. read more

The new manager has brought Suki's Cafe from first to worst. When I complained to him about the inattentive service, he was dismissive and rude as he asserted that there was no problem. We have been loyal customers at Suki's for ten years with dozens of great experiences, but we are done with the new manager and we are done coming to Suki's while he is at the helm. It looked like he couldn't retain his dedicated staff either. Happily, we look forward to revisiting the many other outstanding restaurants in downtown Helena. read more

I have eaten here twice. I rarely if ever write negative reviews however this time I feel compelled to share with others what to expect. The first time the sushi roll ordered was swimming in the mayonnaise sauce. It had dripped off the roll and pooled on the plate. Last night we ordered off the Thai menu with two totally different entrees. The Thai basil came out cold (was also swimming in oil like soup on the plate) and they used the same sauce on Thai basil for the drunken noodles. The highest accolade I can give is that we have brought many friends here who were new to chopsticks and sushi and they all come back again and again. Well what to even say about this place. I suppose it's my fault for giving this place a second try but it was not good at all. We ordered the Gyoza and they came deep fried/not pan fried. there was a dipping sauce but it was covered in a quarter inch of what appeared to be vegetable oil- which in itself is gross. The miso soup was very salty as if it had been sitting boiling in a pan for who knows how long. That made us decide not to go ahead and order any sushi.
