I can appreciate some of the reviews on here which mention that the food at the Jade Garden is on the bland side, and yet while it is not the greatest Chinese food I've ever had, I found it to be decent and flavorful. The food itself would rate at least 3 stars, but what brought my review to 4 stars was the experience. We had the popo platter which came with a flame pit for searing your meat which was surprising and fun, the waitress provided excellent service even though she was busy, and they had hot sake, which is always a plus! Lastly, I enjoyed the decor and atmosphere. I especially loved the jade dragon ship they have on display when you walk in. I'd love to have one of those :) read more

My experience here was entirely positive. The server was absolutely polite and friendly, the restaurant is clean, the portions are huge, service was fast, and the food was delicious. One of my favorite restaurants in Helena. Definitely go for lunch. They have an extensive lunch menu for very good prices - I've tried almost everything on it and was only disappointed by the Egg Foo Young (not what I was expecting). I'd also recommend avoiding the Pad Thai Noodles - they aren't traditionally prepared and seemed too salty. I love the Jade Garden. The building is clean and tidy. The staff is friendly and attentive. They have a wide variety of food, and I try a different one every time I go in. The food is always excellent. I don't understand the 3 stars, it's the best Chinese restaurant in Helena. The Jade Garden deserves 5 stars. I eat take out at least once a week. The food is average, but consistent. I normally pick up my dinner here while I am on the road because I know what I am going to get. The last two visits, however, they have forgotten the sweet and sour part of sweet and sour chicken. Maybe I should check the bag before I leave the restaurant, that is on me. But really? To forget the sweet and sour sauce two times in a row now? Come on! Helena is not big but my hotel is across town and I do not feel like going back for the sauce. Disappointed. I've been waiting for this to come back and sadly, my hopes may have been too high. Portions are way smaller. We ordered a dinner plate to share as a family and received a lunch size portion with cold sweet and sour sauce on over-cooked chicken. Service was slower then expected, even for re-opening week. We were excited to have the Jade Garden back but our experience was less than stellar. About 45 minutes after ordering we still had not received our food, while others seated after us had. Wait staff did not interact with us while we waited. When we did ask our order came relatively quickly. It was disappointing. Both dishes had cold fried rice and inconsistent chicken. Less than impressed with the food. We got the *new items* of noodle soup and Pad Thai... very bland with unpleasant rice noodle taste. What a difference 10 years makes. When they opened Jade Garden consistently served well cooked fresh entrees. Lately they've lost their edge. Last time we visited everything was overlooked. Worse the spicy Szechuan, I love, was bland. I'm afraid complacency has set in. Helena is a small town and for almost a decade JG was the king of the hill so to speak. Chinese is one of our go-to foods for lunch. We've eaten in lots of Chinese restaurants around the country, and have encountered our share of bad ones. Unfortunately, The Jade Café ranks with the worst of the bad. That is the fault of the food, not the service. Our server was friendly and the service was good. We ordered the steamed potstickers. When they arrived, the outside was thick and doughy. Thinking they might be better fried, we asked to have them fried. Frying made one side of the thick dough somewhat crunchy, but they still had too much tasteless dough overpowering the filling. Our next dish was the lettuce wrap with chicken. Surprisingly, it came with narrow romaine leaves rather than the typical broad iceberg leaves, so it was impossible to actually make a wrap. Putting that aside, it was hard to determine what the chicken vegetable mixture had been seasoned with. It didn't have much flavor and the sweet and hot sauce served with it didn't help. Out last dish was stir-fried chicken and broccoli, a standard in any Chinese restaurant. Sadly, the sauce was thick and tasteless. In short, none of the dishes had anything approaching traditional Chinese flavor. The only good thing about the food was the plain steamed rice. I have been back to Jade Garden four times since my first review, and I am as pleased as before. Between my husband and I we've tried 10 dishes now and have not been disappointed. He found the pork won tons meager with the pork stuffing, however I felt that the flavor was strong enough that the proportions were perfect. Their selection of Chinese and Japanese beers is impressive, Sapporo has become his go-to beer at Jade Garden, but watch out, it only comes in a pint! We decided to get a side of lo mein, which ended up being about 4 cups of food. First off I want to say I have eaten at over 200 differant asian food places over the years throughout the US.I Started with the pan fried dumplings. Extremely doughy. About 10 times thicker than they should be. Filling is bland and tough. I ordered the pepper beef. This is the first time ever that pepper beef is bell peppers and slimey unseasoned boiled beef slices. It is normally peppered beef slices mixed with onions and various veggies with a tasty sauce. This food is horribly cooked not seasoned and nasty. Our waiter got 90 percent of my wifes order wrong. I would never eat hear again. I was told I a m w rong and the thick doughy horrible dumplings are best on the menu. Which explains the rest of the horrible food here. I have never had a really good experience at this restaurant, food or service wise. My wife enjoys it so occasionally we go together. Stopped in today to try to get a quick lunch inside of an hour. The place was 75% empty, but they seem to be confused where to set us. After getting a booth and waiting for more than 10 minutes to see somebody I did manage to flag down the hostess and tell her we were ready to place our order. For Helena MT the Jade Garden is some of the better Chinese food. If you are from someplace that actually has good Chinese food you will be disappointed with what I find to be bland Jade Garden. If you are having a hankering for Chinese Food that you just can't shake the Jade Garden will hold them off until you can get better food. Nice building and is always clean, however. I have eaten at Jade Garden several times. My mother refers to it as "the Jade" and it is one of her favorite places to go with me for lunch. The staff is really friendly and the food is usually very good. I recommend going during busier times to get the freshest meal possible. They have a specific lunch menu if you go between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. and those prices are cheaper than their regular menu. If you go with children, they tend to attempt to place families with children in the same general area of the restaurant. Unfortunately, that means it can get pretty loud in that area. We usually ask to be seated elsewhere and they are very accommodating since our children are a little older. The one thing that drives me absolutely crazy about this place is that they scent their menus and I absolutely HATE the smell, but since they take them away after you order, I can deal with that. read more

Food is flavorless and not even remotely Asian. Looking at the reviews it looks like it has become worse over recent years. Change in ownership maybe? I don't know how this place is still in business. Save your money and go somewhere else. I'd go to L&D again before I would go here and L&D gave me food poisoning!
