Disappointed. My family and I visited Helena frequently when I was little and we always enjoyed coming here. Maybe my palate and tastes have changed or maybe this place has gone down hill. But it certainly wasn't as good as I remember. I got the Po Po Platter to start: Egg Rolls, Crab Rangoons, Beef Chaun'r, Fried Chicken bites for dipping in Sweet N Sour and BBQ Pork. Good portion but everything lacked flavor and salt. It all had a bitter note at the end other than the Beef Chaun'r, skewered marinated beef which had decent flavor but were chewy and hard to eat. The Rangoons were soft, not crisp. My main dish was Combo B with Chicken Subgum Chowmein, Almond Chicken and Fried Rice. Again just lacking in flavor over all. Decent portion and fresh food. It just didn't taste good which is the most important part, right?? I got it to go and they forgot silverware. And I'm pretty sure they forgot ketchup for the BBQ pork unless they don't do that kind of thing here. The meal was quickly prepared and staff were friendly. But I'm not coming back. read more

I would give zero stars if allowed. The food was bland and overpriced! My husband ordered some dish that tasted like they scooped it right out of the Pacific Ocean, minus the salt. When we asked if we could exchange for a different dish, the waitress/"manager" said "I'll see what I can do", then took the food, dumped it, brought the new dish and told us we had to pay 1/2 price for the dish she dumped because "this is not a sampler restaurant". I've probably worked in the restaurant business longer than she has (I can tell by her lack of training and customer service skills). Surely, making a refund is an unpleasant process but essential when a client is disappointed and demands their money back. It can cost you much more, say, your reputation and thousands of prospective clients, if you refuse to return the payment. Wife and I are enjoying the food and services. Best Chinese Cuisine in Montana!!! We didn't expect too much from Jade Garden due to the fact that Montana lacks flavor in the food service industry, but this place blew us away. We had the PoPo Platter and split the Yin Yang shrimp. Wow. Probably the best food we have had since our arrival in September of 2020. The appetizer plus one main course was enough food that we had left overs. Wow, this is an amazing oriental restaurant. The first oriental cuisine that I have eaten since arriving here in Montana that has been absolutely amazing. It's cooked to order. Clean fresh tasting. Don't get an awful taste after you take a bite or swallow. The customer service is outstanding. Super friendly. Food came out in a good time frame. It's clean inside and peaceful not loud. We ordered the poo poo platter and the yin and yang shrimp platter it was plenty for two with leftover to take home. I really just can't say enough good things about this place. I come from an area where there is many types of cuisine that is good so I've kinda become a food snob and don't like going our prefer to cook at home but will venture out sometime and was happy I did this time. I called in for a to go order as we were traveling through Helena, nothing was said that I needed to ask for eating utensils or napkins at the time of ordering! I spent $25 and got none of them. The eggrolls were extremely greasy which left grease everywhere!!!!! the orange chicken was so overcooked that I couldn't even eat it! Maybe they're having a bad day. BEWARE OF HAIR Husband and I had dinner on 12\6\15. Found a LONG hair in his dish. Told the waiter, and he said that all the Asians in the kitchen have short hair. We were surprised by his comment. We also told the GM and he also said the same thing, except he didn't reference the asians. He said he would take care if us the next time we come in and to ask for him. This restaurant has pick-up down to a science. Highly impressed with the efficiency of the staff and accuracy of our order. The girls were professional and prompt; I called at 5:12pm, walked in at 5:28pm to pick up, and paid and walked out 3 minutes later. Nice. That said, the food was just okay. Generals and Orange chicken were bland, and the breading was soft and falling off. Preferred to over fried, but still not ideal. The crab rangoons were clever--like super mini burritos. Nice light filling that melted in my mouth. The shrimp in our Lo mein looked yummy, though I didn't try it-the kid loved it. Food appearance, great. Flavor, meh. Service, stellar. For Helena (be honest, not a ton of diverse culinary options) not bad; but the food can not compare to what I get in CA...though the elevated prices are the same. The Po Po Platter has been a family favorite for many many years as it has a great selection of apps and the warming tray it is served on is unique and fun! This is the worst representation of Asian/eastern food in town! I had Pad Thai shrimp. The shrimp was the only thing eatable, the Thai sauce used to make the dish tasted like it was made from katsup! We also had S/S chicken it was okay. Had an order of crab rangoon that was straight out of a box of frozen rangoons you get from the grocery store, you know like pizza bits, really a Chinese restaurant that can't make their own? The egg flower soap was good, thank goodness! The reason most of us enjoy going or getting Chinese food is having leftovers right? NOPE didn't even ask for a box to take any home...........yuk! Jade Garden has some pretty darn good dishes. It's not quite the same as a more authentic Chinese restaurant, but for Helena, MT, it's pretty great! Jade Garden is located on North Montana, close to Carroll College, other restaurants, and quite a bit of shopping. My favorite item to get at Jade is the fried rice, it has become a staple for my girlfriends and myself! 3 1/2 out of 5. Despite the iffy reviews, we decided to try this place. The options for high quality Chinese food in central Montana are as rare as finding Jackalope Soup. This was our first visit here, and we were pleasantly surprised. The up and down reviews have kept us away for many years. Maybe we caught them on a good day and they had recently changed the frying oil. The Walnut Shrimp was good and the Orange Chicken tasty. Neither were the best we have ever had, but the meal was good enough to entice us back when another Chinese craving demands. Both plates provided large servings and filled our to-go boxes. Cudos to our server, Jessica, who was pleasant and properly attentive. A decent beer selection in this clean facility added to our dinner experience. If you find yourself in need of a Chinese fix, this is the best option we have found in Helena, maybe in the region. This is the only Chinese sit-down place in the town besides Panda Express. This place gets packed for that reason alone. The food could be better. The hot and sour soup was very blah, and the brown sauce was just not that up to par with other larger cities I have been to. The place seems clean, and that is one bonus. Besides that, it differs from other Chinese restaurants in big cities. It is what it is for Helena, Montana. All my opinion are based on different experiences at other Chinese places. read more

Amazing chinese. Best in the country according to my husbands palette. LoL. Shauna was our server and she went above and beyond. I'm highly sensitive to gluten and they really did an amazing job accommodating that. They are knowledgeable and have GF soy sauce to work with. They cleaned their wok and changed gloves before cooking my food and she took extra care when serving the food. It was a nice treat for someone who can't enjoy eating out much because of food allergies. But beyond that the food was amazing. We really enjoyed the food here that we got as a delivery: we got Crab Rangoon, Vegetarian Eggrolls, Pot Stickers, Pad Thai with tofu and Jade Pepper Shrimp. Our favorite was a tie between the Pad Thai and the Jade Pepper Shrimp. The tofu was delicious (light and fluffy) and our favorite part of the pad thai dish. The shrimp was cooked perfectly and were very large. Vegetarian eggrolls and rangoon were good too. We've seen other reviews that the rangoon wasn't crispy; ours was softer, but it worked well for the appetizer and was very good (would definitely order these again). The pot stickers were our least favorite. They weren't hot and were too large for our taste. We would definitely eat here again. read more

Having lived in Helena for more than two years, the hubbs and I are pretty used to bad, overpriced restaurants. We considered Jade Garden to be "on the average side of bad" and went there maybe a few times. Nothing spectacular, but mostly edible, and the price no longer fazes us because we just assume it's going to be a quick $40 minimum for the privilege of dear wifey skipping a night of dinner-duty. We came in on a Friday night recently when both of us had worked rather late and we wanted to grab a bite. We saw from the website and google local that Jade Garden was open until 10. We walked in at 9:20. Immediately, the older lady who (I think) owns the place stood up from her counter and said "we close in 30 minutes." We hesitated a bit, kinda muttered something about "... but it's not too late to seat us right?" and were seated. To make a long story short, we got a long sigh when ordering an appetizer, were rushed into ordering our entree, and then received said entree and the check within 5 (literal) minutes of of another. THEN to make things even better, our server came back in a mere 5 more minutes and claimed that her boss wanted to close the till and could we pay our bill now. Shocked, I gave her my credit card. (In retrospect, I wished I had told her I'd be glad to pay our bill when we finish our meal). So we continue to eat our food (at a regular pace, certainly not rushing for their benefit but also not lagging out of spite), and we *very clearly* hear our server asking the owner if she can go or if she needs to wait for us to finish. I didn't hear what the owner said to her, but she waited. (Mind you, the last two tables who were there with us when we sat down left right before this). I was kind of pissed at this point, so I suggested to Mr. B that we just get boxes and take our food home, which we did. Since we're both firm believers of the tip as a privilege, not a right, and because that was some seriously horrible service, we left no tip and headed for the parking lot. Apparently the server left at the exactly the same time, because even though she got into a car nearly 50 yards away, we could hear her complaining about not getting a tip. I'm a bit confused by all the terrible reviews. My husband and I moved here from Denver a few months ago and we avoided this place because of the awful things said here. After trying Panda Express (disgusting) we finally decided to try for takeout. One reviewer said the cashew chicken was just cashews and chicken, but it came with a bunch of steamed broccoli and tonnnss of delicious cashews. My husbands general's chicken was big peices of white meat and lots of veggies. The shrimp rangoons were good, not great. I've had incredible Chinese food in Seattle, San Fran and lots of other great foodie cities, and come on guys, we are in Helena. This is really pretty good for the middle of Montana. Especially considering we have so few options. The girls who took my order and helped me pay were very sweet and friendly. I had the opportunity to enjoy a late lunch at Jade Garden with Mr. Hottie. When we walked in we were greeted and seated very quickly. I ordered hot tea to warm my popsicle tootsies! We decided on three dishes: pad thai, szechuan chicken, and almond shrimp. We asked the waiter to make sure that the pad thai was spicy. After just a short wait the dishes were served. The pad thai came covered in Siracha sauce...while not quite an authentic pad thai ingredient, I happen to LOVE Siracha. It wasn't the best pad thai I've had, but it was a-ok. I moved onto the szechuan chicken. The sauce was very good, but again, not enough spice. I tried the almond shrimp. The sauce was almost too creamy, but the shrimp were lightly fried and delicious. Overall, I enjoyed the food. For being in such a tiny town, I didn't expect Jade Garden to deliver good Chinese food, but they surprised me! read more

Ate here for lunch last week on a recommendation from a coworker. The decor was ok, the food was excellent, and the service was friendly, if not a little over-zealous. But during a relatively quiet dine-in lunch period, I'm sure there wasn't a lot for the guy to do but ensure top service. I had the sesame chicken entree with fried rice, and the food was perfect and the portions were large. I'm a big guy who can put down some chinese food, and I couldn't finish my food. The chicken was great...big chunks of meat that wasn't overly battered. The fried rice was light and flavorful, and wasn't overwhelmed by onions and vegetables, which is just how I prefer it! I understand it has been a family-run restaurant for many years, and they clearly have endured by making great food at reasonable prices, and have excellent service. Ok, Same trip for me in MT. Montana has great folks, amazing scenery and it's probably the place I'd like to grow old. It's looking like I'm going to have to bring my own food though. So many good reviews for Jade Garden....but why??? I struck out big in Helena. I got this Thai dish that was noodles with some veggies. It was literally like day old canned spaghetti with a melted peanut butter sauce. When the server put the plate down I immediately began to think of how I could get out of having to pay for this pile of Asian style Chef Boyardee. The sad thing was that I was starving and strapped for cash. So I forced half of it down and went back to the hotel room...I had the strangest urge to drink whiskey after my meal at Jade Garden. Maybe it was to disinfect my mouth, or just to drink off the depression that set in after I handed over 12.99 for a giant plate of Thai Beefaroni. Come on Montana, this is not good Thai. This place is a retro-fitted old JBs Big Boy or something. The waiting area is hilariously bottlenecked and the only place to sit down is inside the coat closet. The most unsettling thing about our experience there was that the waitstaff was A) very disogranized and flustered or B) incredibly expedient. We were rushed to our table and our main dishes were served within 3 minutes after getting our appetizers - signaling that all the food is sitting in a steam-table and not prepared fresh. And it tasted that way. The food was bland and had the look and consistency of slop. I've spent more time in a drive-thru than we did at this sitdown restaurant with $16 plates of food. We had a very nice waitress, but she was rushing rushing rushing around and everyone seemed to be in a huge hurry all over the restaurant. It's one of the most bizarre dining experiences I've ever had. My wife and I left completely unsatisfied and actually on edge from being rushed around so much. Visited the establishment about a week ago, my wife and I were a little nervous seeing it had 3 stars. We are both amazed at how delicious the food was!
