Found this place coming from VMAC. It's a large restaurant with lots of seating and parking. Clean and spacious. Service was fast. Not sure if it was because there was only four couples beside us. Ordered the two choice combo with roast duck and cold ginger chicken. Chicken was nice and cold and meaty. Nice flavor to the sauce. The duck was not to meaty and little dry but, good portions. The skin was like the the kind you get in the duck with steam bun dishes. My lunch partner ordered gau gee min. Nice flavor and large gau gee. Was full on just one and some noodles. Pros: Good size portions. Lots of parking and clean. Cons: The only one that I had was the duck. Everything else was good. Would I go back? I've been to JADE GARDEN in Waipio near Foodland twice so far. The first time I came here was with some friends for a gathering. We dined in and I thought our dining experience was good...just your typical Chinese restaurant. I remember ordering Minute Chicken over Hong Kong fried noodles that was delicious! However, when I got my bill, I didn't realize that I was charged extra for the Hong Kong style noodles. That blew my mind! That sure was a learning experience for me. Yesterday, my husband was hungry for Chinese food and he wanted to order takeout out to eat at home. I was in the neighborhood so I decided to come here. My husband ordered the dinner plate and he really enjoyed it. I ordered the beef with sweet sour cabbage and I thought it was delicious! One of our favorite Chinese restaurants. They're always with a few specials but we always order our favorite dishes. Always nice to eat at Jade Garden. We usually order more so we can have the leftovers for the next day. Our favorite is the salt and pepper shrimp, pork and bitter melon, stuffed eggplant and stuffed bitter melon. In fact, so far everything we order there is good. I've been eating Jade Garden's food for years and it never disappoints. With options for take out and dine in, it is also a great place for larger parties with lots of parking. The owners know my Uncle who has been ordering here for years and they are very friendly and provide super fast service. While the interior is a little outdated, you definitely go for the food. This past visit was for a party and had about 11 courses of all of my favorites including duck and honey walnut shrimp. Our power went out for 7 hours due to the storm that invaded our islands! Called Jade Garden & thank God they were open! Ordered Minute chicken on cake noodle, honey walnut shrimp, Shrimp fried rice, Cold ginger chicken, Sweet sour cabbage, Black bean chow funn with tofu & Choi sum with oyster sauce. Service was quick. Disappointing to say the least. Took away dinner plate and changed to "dinner for two." Used to have dinner plate, but after 3 pm the lunch plate disappears. Diner for two is $63 with tax. Although the workers were nice the food was more on the bland side. My big issue is they charge a 15% automatic tip. But they didn't let me know a head of time. If I didn't catch that on the receipt they would've received the 15% they added plus a cash tip I was about to leave. It's not right to rip off your customers. Before making a phone order for my girlfriend and I we were trying to kinda calculate how much it would be for honey walnut shrimp, egg fu yung, and their shrimp fried rice from their menu on their website (jadegardenwaipahu.com). After doing to the math total with tax should of been close to $34 ish. When we got there we payed $50+ for a small portions of honey walnut shrimp, a small portion of egg fu yung, and a decently portion of their garlic shrimp fried rice. Food was decently tasty but definitely not for the price we payed. When my girlfriend went in to pay and everything the person in the front took the card and didn't finish the transaction, instead he took a call and had her wait a bit. We were told 10-15 min on the phone and left the house after 10min of putting the order in (the place is about an 8min walk from the house). She then had to wait once she got there. read more

Went here for a family gathering. Was not impressed...chicken was bland, tea tasted like chemicals. The fish with ginger and onion was good, as was the honey walnut fish. Service was fine. Well, I finally found a Chinese restaurant relatively close to my new home. Waipio and Mililani Mauka aren't what you might consider as "near", but it's near enough to consider it being "close to my new home". I studied the menu and saw that they offer a pretty extensive and reasonable lunch combo. Too bad it ends at 3 pm. I'm here to pick up dinner. Decided to get my favorite go-to dishes: Shrimp Fried Rice and Sum See cake noodles. Shrimp fried rice is pretty well seasoned with a generous amount of shrimp. The sum see cake noodles were packed in 2 separate containers. One for the crispy fried noodles and another for the topping. It's separated so the cake noodles can stay crispy... Impressive! Or so I initially thought. I got home and emptied the topping over the crispy fried cake noodles, let it soak the sauce for a little bit, then dug in. My first reaction was; WHAT THE HELL....? The cake noodles were.....CHEWY....!? It seems the noodles were pre-fried and set aside and stored, until somebody ordered it. What's the point of keeping the noodles separated from the topping if it's stale? This totally defies comprehension. The other places fry the noodles and cut them into squares after the order comes in. My order came out relatively quickly and the staff was courteous. Judging from the amount of orders coming out of the kitchen, it seems to be the neighborhood favorite takeout spot. I hate to rant on everybody's favorite, but the cake noodles are not happening.... The food was actually really good! The honey walnut shrimp was nicely flavored! Everything about it was perfect. Salt and pepper pork chops was on the dry side. They specialize in Rice Porridges (Jook) many different options. The most interesting is their Bird Nest Rice Porridge. Tonight we had their version of Oxtail Soup (very tasty lots of Oxtail). Capital Ribs, Stuffed Duck, Honey Walnut Shrimp, and House Noodles made with Hong Kong style noodles. They do a great job with the Stuffed Duck, Boneless Duck with a stuffing made from Barley, Water Chestnuts, Mushroom, Bamboo Shoots, and topped with a Oyster Sauce Gravy. Food was good, I've had better minute chicken/ cake noodles. Noodles were thin crispy but dry, and not much. Chicken could have been crispier, I used lots of chili sauce which helped the taste. This was a unique experience. Where to start? The dining room was completely filthy. The chairs, we're visibly dirty. This wasn't just "whatever, it's a little dingy," it was actually dirty, very dirty. To add to the "ambiance," there was a guy loudly vacuuming in the dining room while we were eating. It was so off putting that it was almost funny. Almost. We placed an order for 5 different items on the dim sum menu and about 5 minutes later, our waiter came back and told us that only one of the items was available. We went through a guessing game with him to try and figure out what was actually available... This one? No. This one? No. How about this one? Okay. Etc. When the food arrived, it looked so unappetizing that it's hard to describe, but I hope the pictures help (I tried to get a picture of one of the flies landing on my plate, but it was too fast). I've heard jokes about "grey" meat before, but have never actually seen it before until this meal. We took a few bites and it was not good. Not good at all. Some comments that came up over the course of the meal: "The texture of the meat is so oddly inconsistent" "Is it possible that fast food has higher grade meat than this?" "Hopefully our suffering will serve as a warning for others" There are so many great places to eat in Honolulu and this is most certainly not one of them. My first time going there late this afternoon and it was okay! A flash back to the 60's and 70's style table, chairs and decor. Nothing fancy but if you just looking for a neighborhood Chinese restaurant, this is it. Upon returning from the neighbor isles today and driving back from the airport, decided to go there for a quick late lunch. And yep as I hoped, the food came quick! Being out was almost 300 pm, there was no lunch crowds, *bam*, food came quick! Hong Kong style noodles were tasty and crispy. Cold ginger chicken was good too! The salty ginger sauce goes really great on rice ...not the healthiest, but hey, once in a while is alright! We all live once! Definitely will keep this place on my list since in the Mililani area, it's down to only 1 Chinese restaurant now. read more

Took a short while to be served water, etc. but there was only one lady and she was taking care if another table. Crispy chicken was ok, rest was good. The pork chow mein was more like a stir fry of poor and veggies on top of chow mein. I liked it, hubby didn't because he's not a stir fry fan. Daughter had minute chicken cake noodle. LOTS of chicken and Choi sum that it covered the noodles. Daughter said it was good and would condone ordering it again. If you are ok with the standard ambience of a Chinese restaurant, and like basic Chinese food then you will not be disappointed here.
