It's was just meh, I ordered the shrimp chow mein, the shrimp tasted fishy and some mushy, very bland no onions in it. The hot and sour soup was just broth with hardly any vegetables or tofu even, fried rice was pretty flavorless too. I won't be back

It was the best Chinese food I've had in Monmouth (almost reminded me of 'Golden Duck' back home on King St.) and I was so happy to finally eat honey walnut shrim

First and foremost, as we discovered, parking is in the back. Second, the formal diningroom had apparently been closed for years, meaning that that all business is conducted in the bar area, which also has slot machines and pool tables. There is also a very prominent sign saying 21 YEARS OR OLDER ONLY! We confirmed that if you have children, the only option is takeout. This is NOT a family-friendly restaurant! We ordered the egg rolls, orange chicken, and mongolian beef. The egg rolls were nothing to write home about; However, the entrees were both amazing and worth coming back for. The portions were large, and the price was reasonable. Both also came with a side of rice. The only reason I couldn't give this place a fifth star is because the menu lists the price of wine as $6.00/glass, yet we were charged $7.75 each. The remainder of our order was billed correctly. This won't stop me from recommending this place or coming back in the future. Hopefully they are able to reopen the dining room at some point so that we bring our kids.

Waited about ten minutes finally, I had to go over to the bar to let the server know.We were there the server was a white guy with long curly hair. Gave me complete attitude.I heard him say, I don't know. They just sat down. Then, rudely slammed the weight to be seated.Sign down. he finally took our order gave us attitude the entire time we had to ask for water ask for extra silverware for the children. Meanwhile, we are watching other customers come in.He was right away greeting them serving them waters he was being very attentive to them. Checking on them etc. When he gave us our bill, he did it with attitude. The other customers when he gave them their bill, he said, is there anything else I can get for you. Even when we said thank you to him, he didn't even acknowledge us. I have been a loyal customer 4 8 years after this experience, I will not be returning until they train their staff on better customer service or this guy is no longer working there. Even with the experience that we have my wife still tipped him 20% like I said, I definitely would not be going back. & yes, I did speak to the owner with no luck

Hot Tea comes with your meal ; they also have a senior menu and a lunch and dinner menu with small differences in price restaurant is always clean and the service is always. Excellent. The good: Szechuan Beef, Kung Pao Shrimp, General Tso's Chicken, and Crab Puffs were very good. However (here's the bad) we received no soup, the Shrimp Rolls were soggy and one had no shrimp at all....just cabbage. The Shrimp Lo Mein, while tasty, contained very few vegetables or shrimp (for $19, I expected a bit more). The Pork Fried Rice was like none I'd ever had before: few vegetables, no flavor/sauce, and it contained the same sliced BBQ Pork that came as an appetizer...which was dry and not very flavorful. The atmosphere is very similar to other Chinese restaurants I've visited. Also this one seemed a bit more spacious, and looked very clean. It's clear they are very busy, and enjoyed by locals. I haven't had Chinese food in about 3 years, and used to eat it about every month or so. Perhaps I'm just very accustomed to the places I used to eat at, in another state, and just long for what I'm used to expecting/eating. Also, I don't know if this an "Oregon thing", but I've never had Chow Mein with crunchy noodles, so I'm glad the person that took my order made this distinction for me and suggested Lo Mein instead. I realize that when you visit a new restaurant, it's all about learning what you like or don't like, and over time you develop your favorite items to order. However, I get take-out or eat at restaurants far less often than I used to, so when I DO make the effort, I don't want to be disappointed. Overall, I'm happy with the food I received, but there are a few things I will avoid in the future.

3 out of 5 stars Lucky Garden - Salem, OR…read moreRestaurant reviews always come down to personal taste -- this one just didn't quite match ours. Small dining room with about nine tables, a TV, video lottery room, and moderately comfortable bench seating. Food: * Egg Flower Soup: Mild flavor; decent. * Hot & Sour Soup: Standard flavor, solid base -- improved after adding a couple spoons of chili oil. * Lunch Special ($11 with fried rice): A good value, though not as fresh as what we're used to around Salem. * Crab Puffs: Could use more crunch. * Fried Rice: Plain, no veggies, and on the dry side. * Spring Rolls: Crispy exterior with fresh filling -- a bright spot. * Cashew Chicken: Veggies weren't as fresh as expected. * General Tso's Chicken: Soy-sauce-forward flavor; crunchy breading, large chunks. Just okay overall. Drinks & Atmosphere: Tea is served by the cup (not a pot) -- extremely hot with pink or regular sugar packets. Takes about 20 minutes to cool enough to drink, and comes without a "hot beverage" warning. There's also a faint, odd smell in the dining area that was noticeable during our visit. Overall: Portions are larger than expected for a lunch special, and some locals clearly enjoy this spot. For us, it was average Chinese food -- okay for the price, but below the freshness and flavor we typically find at our favorite Salem restaurants.
