I have been going to this place for 8 years. Today I went to have dinner with my family. know one was in the dining room so we set ourselves down like, we always do. Waited about ten minutes finally, I had to go over to the bar to let the server know.We were there the server was a white guy with long curly hair. Gave me complete attitude.I heard him say, I don't know.They just sat down. Then, rudely slammed the weight to be seated.Sign down. he finally took our order gave us attitude the entire time we had to ask for water ask for extra silverware for the children. Meanwhile, we are watching other customers come in.He was right away greeting them serving them waters he was being very attentive to them. Checking on them etc. When he gave us our bill, he did it with attitude.The other customers when he gave them their bill, he said, is there anything else I can get for you. Even when we said thank you to him, he didn't even acknowledge us. I have been a loyal customer 4 8 years after this experience, I will not be returning until they train their staff on better customer service or this guy is no longer working there. Sing Fay has stepped it up a few notches with the Dim Sum (Daily Special Menu). Don't miss these delicious snacks! We enjoyed 4 (not pictured is the Soy Sauce Lo Mein - very delicious)!! Just like Hong Kong - generous portions, priced right, and always delicious (leaves you wanting more)! We added Salt & Pepper Shrimp from the regular menu and 2 bowls of Hot & Sour Soup. The Shrimp is XL heaping with 12-15 Shrimp sautéed nicely with onions. The batter is extra light, crunchy, spiced nice, and a real treat. We are very critical of Chinese food and visit many Chinese restaurants - Sing Fay is one of our top 3. Every dish is spiced just right. The service is always fast, very friendly, and the place offers an updated lounge area adjacent to a room with lottery type machines. We live 20 miles away - yet we make the trip to Monmouth to enjoy Sing Fay and have never been disappointed. read more

Came here not expecting much because it seemed like an American Chinese restaurant with orange chicken, kung pao, etc but they have a Chinese menu that has really solid food. This place has an amazing selection of Chinese food. Our favorite is 3 pepper shrimp and salt and pepper shrimp. A must try. Staff will always make you feel welcomed and are very knowledgeable about the menu items. The place just got remodeled and now has a bar area. read more

We're from Hawaii....where Chinese food reigns supreme! Mana pua, dim sum, noodles...so on and so forth. So after settling our son into WOU we found Sing Fay right next door. Sing Fay is definitely action! Homemade lemon sauce on chicken! Chinese steamed choi sum and vibrant vegetables in beef broccoli! Tasty, hot Egg Flour soup! Ended with a pot of hot jasmine tea. Sing Fay is your best bet for family style chinese food in Monmouth. The food here is alright. It's typical american-chinese, so you have the regular General Tao's chicken, and house special fried rice. This place is a good way to fill up off of campus dining. Their menu has had many additions over the years to cater to both American and foreign tastes. When I first started going to Sing Fay in my first year, I stuck to the options on their standard menu. You know the standard menu items: fried rice, general Tsao chicken, sweet and sour pork, beef and brocolli, chow mein, and many more. My favorite dish that they offer is their House Special fried rice. There is something special about fried rice from a Chinese restaurant that holds a dear place in my heart, and Sing Fay's House special fried rice hits the right spot. Throughout the years, though, I have ventured out into their Chinese Menu and ordered not-so-standard fare like steamed pork ribs with black bean sauce. My recommendation is to try a few new things after asking what it is, and how its prepared. Sing Fay is good at what they do, and what they do is offer delicious meals. Most of their entrees come with a side of steamed rice, so you can order, say, beef and broccoli on its own, and still be certain that you'll have a side to eat it with. We were out to go to Yang's Teriyaki but were unaware that Yang's was closed for Spring Break. Sing Fay is across the street from Yang's so, since we were in the mood for Asian food, we thought we'd give Sing Fay a try. Chinese American food disappoints me more than any other cuisine: ingredients are frequently overcooked, not fresh or covered in thick heavy sauces. I have to admit that my initial impression forced me to keep my expectations in check as the decor and furniture are noticeably worn and old looking giving the appearance of a dive. The menu is pretty much the standard Chinese American including favorites like General Tso's chicken and Broccoli Beef. I ordered the curry chicken and I have to say that this curry chicken was the best I've ever had: the vegetables were crisp tender, the curry seasoning was perfect and the chicken was absolutely delicious. We also ordered the broccoli beef which was also cooked perfectly: the vegetables were crisp tender, the beef was tender, the aromatics (like garlic) were punchy and the seasoning was spot on. The egg foo young was the best I've ever had. The patties were impressively thick and the gravy was excellent. The gravy was surprisingly natural and fresh tasting as I find that gravy's in many family style restaurants are too heavy with bouillon flavor and excessively salty. The waitress who served us was very friendly. As a bit of trivia, the waitress told us the owner immigrated from China and bought the restaurant 10 years ago. Yes, Sing Fay is a typical American Chinese restaurant catering to local American taste buds. However, if you are up for authentic chinese food, ask for the "Chinese Menu" and order off that. The items on the "Chinese" Menu are true to chinese restaurants in the Chinatowns around the country, catering to Chinese taste buds. If you have to a chance to go to Sing Fay, you'll see at times many Chinese international students eating at this place and they order off the "Chinese" Menu. Granted the decor needs a huge update, but if you can overlook that flaw, the flavours are very traditional and the portions are huge. read more

i'm hoping that we caught them on a bad night... We ordered takeout and it arrived in a timely manner, piping hot. That's as good as it gets unfortunately. Our Broccoli Beef was under-cooked while the Mandarin Chicken was so over-cooked it was crunchy in places. There was so much tempura on the fried shrimp that it was basically a corn-dog without the stick. The BBQ Pork Fried rice had gigantic chunks of fried egg and before someone says how there's supposed to be eggs, these pieces were basically the size of yolks. We ordered the appetizer platter which looked like it was missing half where even the poor tiny crab puffs were a shriveled, fried mess. There isn't enough hot mustard to ease this weird after taste. I grew up in Oregon eating the Americanized Cantonese dishes (which I still like) but when I lived near Los Angeles I discovered a whole new world of flavors and delicacies in Chinese cuisine. Be sure to ask for the traditional Chinese menu. If you're lucky enough to have the delightful Imelda as your waitress, she can guide you through the process of ordering so that you'll find things to suit your taste, if you're adventurous enough. We had the Kung Pao Chicken, which is my go to, and it was delicious. My husband ordered Salt and Pepper Squid which was perfectly breaded and tender. At Imelda's suggestion he also had the seafood hotpot with potatoes, prawns and squid. The flavors were spicy and rich and infused themselves especially well in the potatoes. We also ordered beef chow fun because my husband likes to use it in place of rice as a base and he enjoyed that as well. If you're looking for a different experience than the average Oregon Chinese restaurant and want something authentically Chinese, then ignore the 3.5 stars and come here. read more

Tasty Chinese food especially for a small town. We had the spicy fish and it was pretty authenticate. Broccoli beef, shrimp and curry chicken were also great. The kids digged the dumplings. Whenever I read a review complaining about the General Tso's chicken or the crunch of the fortune cookies, I wonder why the reviewer didn't just buy a can of LaChoy Chop Suey or go out to one of those Happy Panda places. I lived in China three years and, ever since, try to avoid ordering from the American-Chinese side of the menu. If that's your thing, this review will be of no use. My wife is from China and heard about Sing Fay. We checked the reviews and, when I read about the tables full of noisy Chinese students and tanks of lobsters and crabs near the door, I thought we may have found the right place. We did. I would like to start out by saying that there are a variety of reasons I chose a 1-star rating for this restaurant. My fiance, our friend, and I decided to come to Sing Fay for the buffet around lunch time. I looked at the food and thought that it would be really good, and the buffet route was pretty cheap, so went for it. After sitting down with my food, I regretted it instantly. I had never gone to a Chinese restaurant where EVERYTHING tasted bad until today. The entree food tasted like it had been sitting for a day, the deserts were pre-made so they were okay, but even the egg-flower soup tasted off. I thought that maybe it was just because we chose the buffet and considered giving it another shot on a different day, until I decided to use the restroom. I went into the restroom to find that it looked as if it had not been cleaned in weeks, there was vomit in the toilet, and the sink looked dingy brown as if someone had pooped in it. I will never go back to this restaurant. The workers were nice, but having good workers does not make up for having a terrible restaurant. read more

The food is decent. Not the best American Chinese food I've ever had, but their Authentic Chinese menu is great! The service is both friendly and fast. I'm often surprised how fast my food is served. It is one of my favorite lunch spots in Monmouth. If you are a student, the prices will suit you as they are cheap! They also have a vegetarian section on their menu. I went out with the family while I was town and the food was slightly better than my college days. Apparently the restaurant had changed owners since I was last here. Our server was wonderful and friendly. She promptly gave us water and took our orders. The food came out in a timely manner and we had a nice meal. We ordered items off the "Chinese" menu which you don't find on the regular menu like Chinese sausage fried rice and broiled fish hot pot. Items from this menu are catered more to the Asian palate and tend to be a bit spicier. Prices were reasonable and portion sizes were good. There isn't much selection for food in Monmouth, but nice to know that Sing Fay is still around the corner if I fancy some Chinese. read more

Really bad. Got the #10 combo and the general tsao chicken tasted like cigarette smoke. It wasn't spicy at all either, which is how it was advertised, and was saturated in pure salt. In fact it really just tasted like salt. Meat wasn't good. The egg roll was mushy and lacked flavor. The egg fried rice bland and nothing to write home about. We threw out (and up) our entire takeout order. The chicken smelled like ammonia. It was supposed to be sesame chicken but it was just breaded and fried with a sauce served on the side that wreaked of ammonia as well; no sesame in sight. The mongolian beef consisted of off colored grayish "beef" with an odd chewy texture. The twice cooked pork was probably the only thing edible, but after sampling, and literally gagging on the other food and spitting it in the sink we decided it wasnt worth the risk of vomiting the night through and our entire order was placed into the garbage; after we put our hazmat suits on. Never again. 1) I went there with my son. We both ordered. He also ordered soup. 2) My food was put on the table. The soup the waitress was holding was put on the table next to us, given to people who came in about 15 minutes after us. 3) His soup never came. 4) I was about half way through my meal before his food came. 5) There was grit in the shrimp in my dish. 6) There was something gritty in his Mongolian Beef that he spit out and put on the table, like little chunks of stone. 7) There was a broken piece of eggshell, folded over, in my dish, about the size of a nickel. 8) My Singapore noodles were incredibly bland, though the menu had it marked as hot. Save your money and get some good Chinese somewhere else around here. Want a recommendation -- go to Happy Dragon in Independence. They are top notch. Sing Fay should turn the giant CLOSED signs that you look at while eating around and bag it. read more
