We may have a new front runner for my favorite fish fry of the season. After trying a few different places this season, we decided to try another one of the popular options we kept hearing about. We ordered takeout and it took about an hour or more before we could pick it up, but I guess that's just the usual Friday wait times these days. On to the fish fry. The fish was light and fluffy. It had really good flavor without being overpowering. The best part about the fish fry is the sides and this place doesn't skimp out on sides. A big serving of fries, potato salad, mac salad, coleslaw, and rye bread made this meal HUGE. They all tasted great. The fries were crispy and I like how they put tin foil between the fries and fish to keep them both fresh. Parking here is a little tricky on a busy Friday but the vibes in here are very old school bar and restaurant. We will definitely be back for more fish fry specials! read more

Sadly I Had to knock it down a star the fish was inconsistent, three of us got it one had a crispy batter but cool mushy fish. One had slightly soggy batter and flaky fish mine was good crispy and flaky and delicious! One thing we all loved is they serve the delicious shoe string fries in a little basket , most places put the fries under the fish and both get soggy, so kudos for that. We decided to try Jade's once again. So many people Rave about the fish at this restaurant we figured we would try it one more time. It was garbage again. The fish was very watery and very salty. friends and I went to Jades recently on a Friday nite. meeting at the bar for a cocktail was a great experience receiving a perfect cocktail and enjoying a super beer selection. moving t o the dining room and greeted b a welcoming waitress was perfect. ordering a couple appetizers (Poppers & Coconut Shrimp) was a good choice. The Bison burger ordered by my friends wife turned out to be really good. the Cajun Seafood platter ordered by the husband also was good. My choice of the Yellow Pike (Walleye) turned out to be very disappointing. Why they would serve an unbelievable tasting fish by serving it breaded is baffling to me ( Shame on me for not understanding when ordering). It was eating cardboard. The sides were outstanding !!!!! We went here for lunch with a group and surprisingly we were the only guests there. The waitress gave us all here attention and she was funny too. I shared a large fish fry platter. The fish was very crispy and really hot and not greasy at all. The 2 huge pieces of cod come with potato salad (choice of German or American), macaroni salad and a small container of Cole slaw. The fries come in a separate basket; my idea said the waitress, otherwise they will be soggy. Before we got our food, several baskets of rye bread were put on our table. Excellent. If you go for lunch there is also a lunch portion that's perfect and you still get all the sides- coleslaw, Mac salad, potato salad and fries!! Stopped by Jades for Lunch today as I was really hankering a Fish Fry and my area seems to be predominantly Haddock, but I'm a Cod guy and asking around Jades came up. Walked in and dining room was mostly full @ noon which wasn't a huge surprise considering its a Friday during Lent and Friday Fish Fry's are a big deal around here. After a couple of minutes sat down and ordered my food, about 10 - 15 minutes later the Fish Fry came out and I was impressed. Good batter, nice side portions with a tasty German Potato salad and the Fish itself was tasty. Not a fancy establishment at all and the decor looks like it hasn't been updated in about 30 years, but it doesn't matter...the food is all that matters and it lived up to my expectations. My only complaint ( and it's minor ) is that the small Fish Fry serving comes on a tiny plate and with the sides etc served with it doesn't leave a lot of room and if you're not careful you got some fish spillage over the sides......tiny complaint but 15% bigger a plate would solve that !! read more

Everyone raves about the fish fry so I had to try it. It was average at best. They use the crinkle cut fries that I hated as a kid and hate them more as an adult. They are tasteless cheap fries that high end restaurants wouldnt serve if it was given to them for free. Jade's is a hidden GEM (pun intended!) Jades is a tiny cute place in Depew with the most amazing food, drinks, and service. If you've never been inside, I have to warn you that it is not clean whatsoever lol. Hopefully that won't bother you! I came for their famous fish fry and I was not disappointed. The service sizes are HUGE and I had enough for 2+ meals. My favorite feature of this dinner option is that they give you THREE choices for sides. You can have a bit of everything. They also serve the fish fry with fresh rye bread which is perfect for a Polish girl haha. The environment was not great. It is small inside, and old and dusty, and the tables are close together. For the fish fry night it was crowded but the service was quick and everyone was very nice. They were also cleaning down all of the tables. I was here for our monthly group luncheon. Sadly the restaurant was completely empty except for our table of 10. The good part was that our waitress was very attentive(but not overly!). My husband and I shared the large fried fish platter. The fish was wonderfully crunchy and not at all greasy. There were two large pieces of cod; sides of macaroni and American potato salad were on the plate, plus a separate small closed container of Cole slaw. The French fries are now served in a separate basket. Our waitress told us that was a change she initiated as no one wants soggy fries which happened when they were on the plate with the scoops of the side salads.(The Cole slaw was previously scooped on the plate, not in a plastic container. While I am not happy about using the throw away plastic container, no one wants their fried fish or fries to get wet from the Cole slaw.) There were several baskets of sliced rye bread on our table. Everyone's lunches looked very good; most of us had a doggy bag! Mine was pretty small, but just a little bit too large a piece of fish for me for lunch. Jades has been in business for quite a while. I hope their dinner business is busier. The prices seem very reasonable. read more

We came to Jades early Friday afternoon for a fish fry. We were seated right away and given menus and bread for the table. They had a huge fish selection which I thought was awesome. We ordered drinks and our food shortly after we were seated. I liked how they had a twist on a fish fry. I got what they called a "nuggie basket" which was hand cut fries and fish nuggets. My boyfriend got the small fish fry. You also get to choose a large or small size, which again is great! My dish didn't come with sides, but I was able to try my boyfriends. They were excellent. Not drenched in mayo, and a good portion. The sides weren't taking over the plate like some places tend to do. Overall, I would rate Jades a 3. The fish was a little soggy for my liking, compared to other places. But I would come back to try other menu items for sure. read more

My boyfriend and I stopped in on a Saturday night, around 7:45 for dinner. We walked in, and the only thing I saw, was a lady standing there, so I was confused. We went 5 minutes before they closed. We apologized and said we would go somewhere else, no worries. She said "you know what? Everything is still on, and I'm going to be here a while cleaning, make yourselves at home." They actually opened everything back up and welcomed us with open arms when they were trying to close up for the night. They couldn't of been more gracious, and we couldn't of been more grateful. I got the french onion soup, which was fantastic, and the nutty goat salad off of the lent menu. I think this is going to be my go to here. My boyfriend got crab cakes, which he said were excellent and fresh, and you can tell they were homemade, and he got the baked cajun fish fry, with a side salad. It was perfect, because he just wanted the fish and not the usual sides that come with it. Its a great option on the lent menu. I cannot rave enough about this place. I finally decided to try this place because everyone talks about how good the fish fry is. I am not a fan of the traditional fish fry with all the batter and grease ( sorry I swear I'm still a buffalonian) so I opted for the Cajun breaded fish but it seemed to be missing the breading...it still tasted very good so I'm only taking away 1 star for that. I ordered the small order and when I saw all the food that came with it I was shocked! 2 salads(potato and macaroni), coleslaw, and FRESH CUT fries! It was way too much to finish and had I known, I would've skipped the appetizer. The app we went with was the stuffed peppers and they were good but not my favorite and we all know how much I love my stuffed peppers to I'm picky. Now my favorite part was how friendly all of the staff was! We were seated right away, drink orders taken timely and also took the food order since we seemed to be ready judging by the closed menus and the food came out really quick for how busy they were. It's unsettling for me to have to write a review like this especially when everyone was so nice. Staff. Wow. You couldn't ask for a better staff and having worked in the restaurant business a good portion of my life, great servers, bartenders, and waiters are hard to find. These folks deserve five stars and then some. Atmosphere. Don't let the web site fool you: this place is crying out loud for a renovation. I could stand the bar but when you ask for a top shelf liquor and you get a well drink, something is wrong in the land of Oz. The food. The fish. One of my guests had the fried shrimp and I had one. Fantastic! Then came the Friday Fish Fry. The exterior of the fish was, well, fried but the interior was translucent. What is probably happening is that the fryer is too hot. It's hot enough to cook shrimp really fast (because they're small) but too hot to cook fish thoroughly. The fish appears to be done because the fryer grease is so hot, it shows like it's done when it isn't. Then there is the salt. The salads. The absolute best part of any fish fry is tasting that luscious fish with a taste of mac or potato salad (please STOP serving german potato salad with a fish fry, Buffalonians!). The mac salad would have passed except that someone in the kitchen really, really likes a LOT of pepper...and the cook is putting pepper on ALL of the salads. Note: Someone forgot to put a little vinegar in the coleslaw...or avoided doing so. The potato salad. Paprika. Need I say more? It was mushy, or a couple days old. Couldn't tell. Just dissatisfying. Again, too... much...pepper. What Jade's really needs is a chef who isn't over the age of 25. My guess is the cook is a man. Don't know. Just a guess. It's too bad. This place could really knock Buffalo's socks off...if they only knew how to keep it clean. read more

I've driven by this place a million times, I thought it was just a dive bar. I would have never known they had food unless I googled fish frys. My gf and I both got fish frys. The sides were pretty good. The fish was cooked perfectly but the oil they used definitely needed to be changed as it gave the batter an extremely bitter taste. Wow is all I can say!! We went for a fish fry on Thursday to beat the Friday rush! Was seated right away. I have to say hands down the absolute best fish fry in buffalo. The portion was enough for 2 and all the sides are made fresh. The rye bread is brought in daily and the basket was refilled 3 x. Mike waited on us and was excellent. We brought home the leftovers and I had a piece of the chicken, and it was the best fried chicken I have ever eaten. Please, Jade's, add this to your regular menu. It was that good. Additionally, they serve a rack of ribs on Wednesdays only that is also as good as they come. But that honey-dipped chicken, wow. Wow. Every Friday my mother, grandmother and I went for a fish fry to a different restaurant each week. We did that for about 3 years. I think we hit just about every restaurant in WNY that had it on their menu. But we kept asking, "Why are we doing this? We already know who has the best." But, we wondered if maybe there were others that were just as good. We would be wrong. There was/is only one place that has the best and my entire family has now been going there for fish fries for the last 35 years. Jades... you just cannot beat their fish. Never fishy tasting, never tough, never bland. That said, I have never had a bad meal there... ever. Never had to send a meal back. Never had anything under or overcooked, cold when it should be hot or hot when it should be cold. I've never had anything but good, homemade food. They have catered everything from funeral breakfasts, to graduations, bridal showers, baby showers, and just about every other party my family has had... and guests have raved about the food every single time. They have a drop off buffet that comes piping hot and soooo fresh! Their breaded pork chops melt in your mouth as do the beef rolls. Their Polish platter gives you a nice variety of foods. From soups to sandwiches and everything in between... there is something for everyone! The only thing I wish they would do is remodel... tear out that old bar and replace it with something more updated. The liquor display could be more tidy... more pleasing to the eye. Also it would be great if they knocked out the wall where the pool table used to be and open the restaurant up a little more since the restaurant can be a little cramped sometimes. UPDATE 10/28/17: Jades has been sold and has new management. The pluses.... food tastes the same. Thank God!! :) Seems as if they're the same recipes, which is great. They remodeled and it looks very pleasing when you walk in. It's clean and tidy. I like the seating area when you first come in. This is when they should ask if you'd like a drink, (would bring more money into the bar and give the customers something while waiting). Prices don't seem to have changed and if they have, it's not noticeable. They removed the ceiling fans, and that was a mistake. It's hot in the summer... very hot. If you ask them they will bring out a big fan, but there really isn't anywhere to put it, and one time the waitress quickly sat a person right in front of it. We had to leave. :( The only a/c seems to be in the very front across from the bar and it's a small one that does not cool the whole place. They should do something about that. When people feel comfortable, they want to come back! Now they're only open 4 days a week... Wednesday through Saturday. Not sure why, but it seems every time my friends and I want to go out, it's a Tuesday after work. We miss them not being open Tuesday through Sunday. Well, hello little diamond in the rough. This place SCREAM old school Depew Bar. For a second I felt like I was on the set of the Magnificent 7. I have been here a few times for wings and Fish Frys which are so far out of this world Matt Damon could have had them when he was stuck on Mars. But now with new owners it was a crap shoot what we were going to get. I rolled the dice on a Bacon Blue Burger, girlfriend got a chicken sandwich. I wasn't expecting anything crazy as the place was very quiet for a Thursday and I was cautiously optimistic on what would come out from the doors to the kitchen. From a far it looks as though 2 Galapagos turtles were on our plates. This made Red Robin look like white castle. Holy Cow... ha but really this thing was huge. Both were big enough to fill Paul Bunion. Fantastic! Fresh cut fries.. are you kidding me. the worst part was having to get out of my seat after adding 6 lbs of food. Service was very good as well.
