The Mac and Cheese was really good, not based in an Alfredo sauce. I had a bite of the Wife's bowl of orange chicken. It was really good. It was Goldielocks, not to spicy not to sweet, just right. Oh and it was huge according to the better half. We ordered on Grubhub so I can't talk about the service and the way it looked inside. My hotel room was very quiet and comfortable.

I usually don't drink on the weekdays, so I ended up just getting an iced tea and him a tequila soda, but because I don't drink, we decided to get an appetizer and we browsed the menu for a minute and ended up splitting the Parmesan chicken egg rolls. Truthfully, I really just wanted to see what that would entail because it seemed a little disgusting or maybe even some kind of high-food, but to my surprise, it was actually a really crispy skinned pizza roll. I'm pretty sure it had been previously frozen, but in that moment- served with a side of marinara, I didn't really care. It was full of gooey melted mozzarella cheese and almost like a breaded chicken nugget center. Pretty decent as far as bar food goes. They also had crab rangoon to which I thought, "hmm are they doing a little too much?!" I'm sure drunk me would have gotten them years ago so what can ya do. Overall, quite a positive experience. The bartender was really sweet and everything wasn't super expensive. I've been in the neighborhood for such a long time, but I've actually never been here and I'm glad I came on a night that it wasn't chaotic.

Fries are also nothing special. Hushpuppies were also nothing special. Big pass on this place for the lack of staffing which effected wait time and for the food to being nothing worthwhile.

We had a problem with our order when my daughter found a small piece of plastic wrapper in her food. We told our waiter and he immediately informed management. The manager came over and offered a new plate but my daughter was fine having the current plate. So instead, she comped her meal and gave her a choice of dessert with a gigantic milk. Despite the minor glitch, this place deserves 5 stars for the way they handled this issue. We feel they went above and beyond to remedy the situation. I will spare the details. I am not a gluten free trendy who has a pastry for desert; this is an issue that's followed me my whole life. Usually when trveling, I end up eating carrots, rotisserie chicken and coldcuts when my supply of hard boiled eggs runs out. Every now and then I hit the jackpot. I arrived in Chicago on a Thrusday afternoon in September and first thing, set out around the neighborhood to find a restaurant where I might be able to eat. All the usual kinds of places (naerly all of them corporate) were out of the discussion when I spotted Doc Bs at 55 E. Grand Ave. The exterior was low-key but for some reason I was drawn to it. I went in to check the place out. Usually this part of the discussion goes like a legal deposition. "What do you know, and how do you know it?" I asked for a menu; I was handed one and began to read carefully. Among other things, they offered a kind of rice bowl dish, a bit like hot poke (the Wok Out Bowl). It came with a diversity of sauces -- Curry, Sesame Teriyaki , Sweet & Spicy Thai, etc. I said, "Which of these sauces has no gluten?" "All of them," said someone named Cassandra, responding in a confident voice. She was the general manager. "Our company takes food sensitivity very seriously. We also have gluten free deep fryers." I pushed a little harder: Cassanda said she could account for every ingredient in every dish on the menu. Right away I was having a 1 in 1000 expeience. Even in the top tier of places aware of the gluten issue (which is no longer vogue), I am often saved by a server who has a clue what goes into the food. Cross-contamination is an issue; as is ignorance about product. Gluten-safe dining is usually based on a stripped down menu; and some places commit outright fraud by neglecting to mention known issues in the kitchen but still saying GF on the menu. My theory of keeping gluten out of restaurant food is **start with none, and add it only where you need it**, which is nearly in nothing. She said that's exactly what we do. My second theory of gluten free is **parity of experience**. That means that everyone at the table has an equivalent experience. The whole table does not enjoy sumptuous deserts while the GF person gets canned pears. At Doc B's I could eat anything on the menu, including French fries and chips and salsa (small, taken-for-granted pleasures by most diners). My third theory of gluten free dining is **no gluen free upcharge.** It's tacky, and adds insult to injury (especially when a GF bun or bread is subpar, as was NOT the case at Doc B's). Doc B's got 100% on all counts. That and the food was consistently excellent. I ate there seven times over five days trying many things (but having a lot of Wok Out bowls). I sent several people and brought four different friends, one of whom had such such extreme dietary restrictions he could usually order an apple. Both were good...not sure it pairs well. (I saved the guacamole for my burger) I had the wedge burger, primarily for the egg. It was great! The burger was perfectly cooked as was the sunny side up egg. I ordered it with a side of fries. Perfectly cooked fries. They give huge portions. I was able to share with my friends. I ordered a cranberry and tonic for a beverage. It was great, however, they served it in a "bar" glass, so it was not a lot of liquid. I had to order two. I prefer pint glasses for non-alcohol beverages. Tasted great, just needed more. Prices are reasonable for a city restaurant. Without tip for 4 adults, 4 entrees and 1 appetizer and soda-water beverages. It came to about $130. Parking...If you can walk or take a ride share. It's the city and parking options aren't great.

On a Sunday evening, a couple friends and I were just looking for somewhere to grab food. Lately I've been on a serious wing run trying spots all over, so naturally I suggested wings. I threw out a few places, but we ultimately landed on Jake Melnick's. Honestly, why wouldn't we? They're constantly talked about as having some of the best wings in Chicago, so my expectations were already high before even walking in. We got there around 8 PM on a Sunday, so the place wasn't overly packed, which I actually liked. The atmosphere still had energy to it, but it felt relaxed enough to enjoy the experience without feeling crowded. Service was pleasant right away and everyone there was welcoming. I ended up ordering the Jumbo Wings along with the Smash Burger. Usually when I try a place known for wings, I go straight for them first, but something told me to start with the burger. I'm glad I did because that burger was honestly excellent. I kept it simple with lettuce, tomato, and BBQ sauce, but sometimes simple is exactly what works. The burger was juicy, flavorful, and balanced perfectly. Nothing about it tried too hard, yet it still stood above your average burger spot. Every bite felt clean and satisfying without being greasy or overcomplicated. I would absolutely come back just for the smash burger alone. Now for the wings. I really wanted these to continue my streak of finding standout wing spots, but this might be where the streak sadly ended. Let me be clear, the wings were not bad by any means. In fact, the chicken itself was juicy and had good flavor. But when a place carries the reputation of having some of the best wings in the city, you naturally expect that extra level that separates them from everywhere else. For me, great wings come down to three things: crispiness, juiciness, and how the sauce complements the wing instead of just sitting on top of it. Jake Melnick's nailed the juiciness. The chicken had flavor on its own and wasn't dry at all. Where the wings lost points for me was the crispiness. Since the wings are breaded pretty well, I expected a crunch that would hold up against the sauce, but the sauce softened that texture more than I would've liked. The buffalo sauce itself was solid, but it tasted similar to what you can find at a lot of other wing spots. It didn't really have that signature depth or identity that immediately makes you think, "Yep, these are Jake Melnick's wings." At the same time, I do want to give some grace because we did go later in the evening. Part of me wonders if catching them earlier in the day would've made a difference in how crispy the wings came out. Because of that, I definitely want to give this place a second try before making any final conclusions. Overall though, Jake Melnick's is still a good spot. The service was there, the atmosphere feels like it would be an absolute vibe during a big game, and the burger seriously impressed me. We stopped by here on a quiet Sunday afternoon, mostly looking for some comfort food before wrapping up our trip. The place wasn't too busy, and the service was laid-back and friendly, which was appreciated. We tried a handful of dishes to share. Some were great, others were more average: The fried pickles were definitely the standout -- super flavorful and crispy, even if a little messy to eat. The waffle fries were solid too, especially with a side of ranch. The broccolini was surprisingly good -- nicely seasoned and had a bit of crunch to it. I'd get that again. The mac and cheese was just okay; nothing bad, just not super memorable. The KBBQ wings didn't really deliver the flavor we were expecting. Tasted more like regular BBQ, so they were a bit underwhelming compared to the rest. Overall, this is a good spot if you're after casual bites and a chill vibe. The food hits the mark for the most part, and the space works well for catching a game or relaxing with friends. Jake Melnick's Corner Tap in Chicago offers a quintessential pub and restaurant experience with a lively and inviting atmosphere. While the ambiance is nothing out of the ordinary, the food truly stands out. The Biggie Pretzel is a showstopper--huge and perfect for sharing, though even with four people, we couldn't finish it and had plenty to take back with us. I also had the Brisket Sandwich with BBQ sauce on the side, and it was exceptional. The brisket was tender, flavorful, and an absolute highlight of the meal. The service was decent but could use some improvement. Our waitress was polite and attentive, though she seemed new and unfamiliar with the menu, which made asking questions a bit challenging. Despite this, the overall experience was enjoyable, and the incredible food more than made up for it. Jake Melnick's is a solid choice for groups or anyone looking for great food in a casual, welcoming setting. My next trip to Chicago will certainly require another visit for some Good comfort food! read more

I tried this place the other night... Wow... I really liked it... I wanted to try their. Xxx hot wings. So I ordered some "pumpkin beer" at the bar. Some off-duty waitor from another restaurant laughed and looked at me funny. So I told him to give Frankenstein his face back, and I went about my buisiness... Fugly... The 3 orders of xxx wings were really good. So I had 3 more orders. I really enjoyed them and even broke a sweat. But they were not as spicy I thought, at least going in. ...........At some point in the night I lost control of my bowels and woke up to the horse head scene from the Godfather. Yes I was screaming... But it was worth it, maybe not to my dry cleaner, but it was a special night for me... Note to restaurant: maybe you should change the name to FIRE DOWN BELOW!!!! read more

We visited Jake Melnick's Corner Tap upon a friend's recommendation. We are not from Chicago, but were in route to Georgia and stopping over to visit my daughter, who does live DT Chicago. We were there for lunch . The atmosphere was warm and inviting. The staff, including the hostess, our waiter and the manager who checked with us at the beginning and end of our meal to ensure our satisfaction, were all first class. Most importantly our food was fresh, hot and delicious. We had the Pulled Pork-Carolina sauce, Buffalo chicken Sandwich and Beef Brisket BBQ Platter. The portions were generous and cost reasonable especially considering the quality of the food. We will definitely recommend to anyone visiting Chicago and we will return ourselves next time we are in town. read more

This place has been around for as long as I can remember. I used to live close to it when it first opened and was a frequent visitor. Great place to watch sports and get drinks and good food. Service was great. And then I moved to LP and came back here last week. Looks the same but was happy to see that the crowd (a lot younger now!) is still having a good time. It is close to Michigan Avenue so best to avoid when the tourists come in, but I think there is a strong basic "Corner Tap" where you will get good food, good drinks and good service. Best in class if you can handle extremely spicy chicken wings! Made with an extraordinarily spicy, but amazingly flavorful, ghost pepper sauce these are the best wings I have ever eaten. Big meaty wings which must be bathed in cool blue cheese dressing just to temper the fire a little, pair this with a beer and you're taken to another place. The burn will build with each wing, along with your adrenaline as you wonder if you will be able to make it to the finish line. That jolt of euphoria kicks in towards the end and as you finish the last wing you feel a real since of accomplishment -- these wings are so hot they make you sign a waver! read more

HOT WINGS I went there for 1 thing and 1 thing only! HOT WINGS... So when you order it, you get a plastic fire hat, and sign a waiver! Then, when you get them, you have the option of when you ring a bell, they rush out with ice cream, bread, milk, and sour cream to put out the fire! And boy, was it a fire! My mouth STILL hurt that night when i got home! Once i couldn't eat any more of the Satan-rigged, lightbulb-sized wings, they took my picture and put it on the wall! If you're looking for top-tier food in a relaxed, casual setting, this place is a must-visit! We stumbled upon this gem near our hotel while visiting from out of town, and it was worth every bite. We tried the Mexican Elote dip, fries, macaroni and cheese, and a side sausage link - and wow, the flavors were incredible! Each dish was packed with deliciousness, and we couldn't get enough. Came here for the wings. Had the traditional and spicy buffalo wings. There's room for improvement with blue cheese and celery. Spicy buffalo wings were ok. Traditional wings were absolute garbage and devoid of much any sauce. I loved how much meat are in the wings but they need to use more sauce and hold back on the salt just a pinch. Love Jake Melnick's. I always take family to Jake's when they visit. I've never had the same thing twice and everything I've had has been excellent. My personal favorite is the Sloppy Pig, it's BBQ heaven. The wings and mac and cheese are really good also. I've always had excellent customer service as well. There can definitely be a wait around lunch and dinner but they text you when your table is ready and there is plenty to do within a block or two of the restaurant. read more

Every time I'm in the area I have to stop here for some Poncho wings -- the flavor is so good and you can't find wings like these anywhere else! They didn't have the boneless ones though and they have cut down their menu quite a bit, no more platters with brisket, pork, chicken, etc. My friends and I reallyyyyyyyy miss the asian salad they used to have on the menu, the wasabi vinaigrette was to die for. Right now my favorite stop over for beers and hot wings is Jake's! I know there are probably better out there, but this one is close to home and makes me plenty happy when nothing else fits the bill. I love that it's the full wing, not these little wee wing-lets. The less processed, the better it is. I look forward to continuing my wing hunt! Because of the location, I didn't want to go there as I thought it would be overpriced. I couldn't be more wrong. The beers were actually reasonably priced and the food was quite good. Since it is BBQ, I wouldn't say healthy though. The bartender Michelle was a total babe with a porn star body. Too bad my friend was a total jerk to her. Jake Melnick's has a great beer selection, and pretty decent bar food. I really like their chicken sandwiches, burgers, etc. Unfortunately, I never seem to have good service when I go there, and not because it's busy either. In addition to the frequently sub par service, management seems to be non-existent. Watch out if its busy, you could be waiting forever for service. read more

Long story short - NO DOGS ALLOWED even though on amenities: We went to the restaurant because it had dogs allowed and outdoor seating on the yelp filter & on the yelp page. This is NOT a dog friendly place and we got denied entry. They specifically said no dogs allowed. Next time we will call the next place before coming out to the city :/ read more

If I could give 0 stars I would....how can you promote yourself as an Official Blackhawks bar and not show the game because the NCAA basketball games compete with the time. Not sure how you get that title, but believe it should be revoked. Will stick with Timothy OTooles who accommodated both for everyone. read more

This place has a decent selection of beer, but the prices, crowd and temperment of the staff make me hesitant to go back another time. Overall, it's probably as good as you're going to get in the neighborhood, but still not great. I recommend eating elsewhere, as it's overpriced and not that good. read more

While I understand this is becoming a common industry practice, a gratuity should ultimately be an option based on service. The server did mention at the end that we could have it removed if we wanted to, but customers shouldn't be forced into that awkward position in the first place. Unfortunately, the quality of the food has also gone downhill. I always used to order the ribs and frequently took extra food home because it was so good. Last night, the food left a lot to be desired. The barbecue simply isn't what it once was. When I tried to make a lunchtime reservation for 5 a week on advance, despite being a Gould OpenTable member that was blocked. I called to the Restaurant resolve the issue and upon arrival today there were lots of open space. The restaurant also needs better sign or/directions as the address leads you to a large office building not to the restaurant. We just set off plaza towards rear. Tables are far too close together and that couple of the high ceilings, no carpeting and no drapes makes it difficult to hold a conversation as the noise level is unbearable.
