I will say these are some of the best wings I have had in Chicago. These wings burst with flavor and are very tender. The place is a little pricey but you pay for what you get. I much rather spend the extra dollar or two for wings that aren't some wings that could maybe fill a small child. I'm a growing boy, I needs my chicken delights. Anyways the only thing I was mislead by was the level of heat. Typically if I see something that is labeled spicy, I expect a little kick. I purchased the Asian and spicy chicken wings and I was slightly disappointed with the spicy wings. The flavor was bangin but zero heat to it. I don't want lose my mind when eating something spicy but I do enjoy a double take to make sure I didn't just bite into an actual pepper. I was torn between a 3 and a 4 for Jakes and, the customer service and atmosphere is what pushed me to a 4. I came to Jakes with 4/5 of my friends; we all ordered different things and shared family style so I tried multiple menu items (pulled pork, wings, nachos, etc). All and all, I would say the food was pretty good. I didn't eat anything I found myself just craving again but, the food was good enough to enjoy. Very much bbq/bar style menu. The prices are about what you'd expect for a bar in the heart of downtown Chicago off of Michigan ave, meals are going to be about $15-25 a meal and $8-16 priced drinks I'd say, depending on what you get. My favorite part about this place was the atmosphere and the service! The servers were very friendly and attentive , even with it being hectic and us being a bigger party. The atmosphere was one of my favorites that I've been to in Chicago. If you like sports, you'll love it here. There are TVs everywhere you look and every direction you turn. It seems to be a lot of sports fans in the building so, I'd imagine they draw more of a sports bar crowd on a regular basis. Unlike some sports bars who just have 3 gigantic TVs, Jakes invested in 15+ normal sized ones which is a great idea to me and very conducive for when multiple games are on at once. Our server at Devon Seafood recommended the wings here, and holy was he right about that. We came to try just the wings and got some drinks while we were here. The combo has the traditional and poncho's, so freakin good!! The flavors are on point, the wings are huge themselves and were tender. The fried pickles were good, but a huge portion! I work in the area so I figured I'd give Jake's a try. I heard good things about the wings and their buffalo chicken sandwich plus with a banner outside stating voted the best wings in Chicago...how could i go wrong? I took my girlfriend there since she suggested something American nothings is more American than wings, burgers and football. There was a 30 minute wait that was only 20 minutes so that was good. the service was ok we were being taken care of by a rather fidgity waitress. She greeted us and we put our orders in i had a Steak sandwich and my girlfriend got the Que Burger a speciality burger angus wrapped in bacon.......(insert Homer Simpsons voice ...UMMMM Bacon!) We started with their fried pickles which were great. I ordered one of their house beers I was impressed. Then the food came my steak was coked a perfect medium well. My girlfriend's burger was still alive dripping blood onto the plate. So we got the waitress to have the cook throw it back on the grill. At this time I'm in full masticating mode and had her blessing to eat while she waited....Thanks boo your the best :) So she returns with the food and being apologetic so she cuts into it again and it seem like they just dressed it with barbeque sauce and warmed it up. It goes back for the second time at this point I'm concern they are going to burn the burger to a crisp. Finally she returns for the third time I'm at the end of my meal and its finally cooked and not jumping over the moon. While cooking the burger they continued to recook the fries which on the third time were burned. She ask for a box to take the burger home while i talk to the waitress on getting a discount for a not so pleasant dining experience. We weren't charged for the burger and the waitress was nice somewhat forgetful. The experience hasn't soured me on Jake's I think I'll just stick to the wings. read more

I can't say enough good things about this place. It was delicious, the service was great, and the prices were fair. Huge portions! Definitely couldn't finish my entire sandwich in one sitting. I LOVE THIS PLACE. I went here first with my boyfriend, aunt, and mom, and got the fried cod sandwich and ordered a side of coleslaw to put on top. DELICIOUS. My aunt ordered the three bbq sliders with garlic fries and everyone was obsessed with them. But this time me and my brother wanted to try their sandwiches for lunch. We got the turkey burger and the grilled chicken sandwich! The turkey burger was good and juicy. It was pretty tasty in my opinion! The grilled chicken sandwich was very dry! Each bite was a struggle followed by a lot of water after it to be able to swallow! It just wasn't as good! I don't ever write reviews, but just had to leave one for Jake Melnick's. The BBQ.... oh man--so delicious. The truffle tots and corn bread were also group favorites. The atmosphere has a cool dive vibe and we were able to watch two sports games at the same time which was nice. What really sets this place apart is the service. Our server (Paige) was so friendly and went above and beyond from helping us choose the right beer, letting us try wing sauces we were torn between, and overall making us feel accommodated even when the place was packed! We will definitely be coming back next time we are in town. read more

I'm done with this place. I live a block and a half away and really wanted to like this place (I loved it when I first started going a few years ago). Unfortunately, I've had too many bad experiences to even think about going back. As far as the food goes, I admit the last time I ate there I did show up about 45 minutes before the kitchen closed so maybe it's the reason they thought they could get away with this. However, for a place that claims to be "the best wings in Chicago," there's no excuse. I got one order of wings and one order of french fries. When they came out, I immediately knew something wasn't right. I figured out (and after verifying by talking to a few friends of mine that run restaurants) instead of going through the trouble of making me wings, they just RE-FRIED wings and french fries that were previously sitting around. Needless to say they were awful, I sent them back, and left vowing to never go back. If you're a Chicago sports fan, don't even bother coming here to watch a game. I can't count how many times I've come here planning to watch a 'Hawks game only to find out they weren't showing it on any tvs (they have at least 20). Not usually a big deal but when they call themselves an OFFICIAL BLACKHAWKS BAR and display the banner, I expect them to show the game on at least one tv. Not too long ago, I decided to give them one last chance after my last awful food experience because I wanted to eat and watch the rest of a Cubs game but was pressed for time. I walk in and ask if they were showing it and they told me "sorry" because they were too busy showing NBA games Chicago wasn't playing in ON EVERY TV. Safest choice in a wing flavor; if you're looking for a decent amount of spice, is the traditional spicy buffalo sauce. I never tend to stir away from that flavor the few times I've been here. My husband and I went for a late night dinner. He had the burger. It was cooked perfectly. He said it was flavorful and tender. I had the sloppy pig, which had pulled pork, brisket, and smoked chicken. It was topped with cheddar cheese and crispy onions. The flavor was excellent! All of the meats were tender. Simply delicious. The only recommendation is to keep the bathroom clean. I thing is worse than going into a bathroom before you eat and seeing that it is filthy. I was supposed to go to this Italian place but they were full and then I saw this place. It felt like a sign from God or something. The food couldn't have been better. Our server was really nice, he knew how to have fun. Chicken wings are gorgeous. My brother and sister had the pizza, which they had devoured in 5 minutes, they saw it was amazing. My mother and father had a burger, can't remember which one but they loved it. I had a chicken caesar salad, it didn't disappoint. Although there was a bit too much in the plate for my liking. I love this place! Im in love with their hot wings, medium. If you ever are at the United Center, make sure to stop by their stand to pick up some wings there. You get 8 wings to an order, and for me that is way to much, I usually only get through 4 of them. But they are hands down my favorite. They always have a monthly mac n cheese dish and it does not disappoint. Service is always great, atmosphere is a woodsy, sports bar. I ended up with a burger and wings to share. The burger was fan.tas.tic! The definition of a char-grilled burger. The fries were the old school, paper bag fries. They were good but would have been better had I'd eaten them hot (it was a to-go order). The wings were also good. I'm not prepared to say the best. But definitely flavorful with a good spice. I'm not a fan of wings that are hot for the sake of being hot, but lack flavor. The only downside is that they are a bit pricey, so this won't be a regular spot.
