I visited Jake's on the eve of the big St. Patrick's day music festival. They were friendly and accommodating, even though the staff was clearly in prep mode for the huge crowd coming the following day. I got the loaded pina colada. It was a super strong vodka-based drink with a splash of seltzer. It was an absolutely perfect low-sugar option for someone. We also got some mozzarella sticks and tots. Both were solid starter options. Since they were on a limited menu due to the festival, that's all we got. They don't have many vegetarian-friendly options anyways, so it was all good by me. They could work on their TV and table placement during sporting events, but we made it work. Overall, this is a good college bar where the vibes are positive! read more

My friends and I were in Columbia for the St. Patty's Day music festival and the UNC vs Duke game was on so we were trying to find somewhere to watch the game. The staff here were very friendly and accommodating. It was really warm and nice outside so we went to the giant outdoor seating area. There were bars both inside and outside for convenience. The TVs outside were limited but we found a spot where the 6 of us could sit and watch the game. The TV was on a different channel but they were quick to change it for us. We all ordered drinks and close to halftime we ordered some food to hold us over until dinner later. I had some tater tots and they were quite nice. A slight crisp to the outside and still fluffy on the inside. They were a little busy for an early Friday afternoon but there was plenty of space available. People were sitting and conversing throughout the outside area, and this place is dog friendly. read more

Excellent spot if you have a dog! Not so great if you're a vegetarian, but they have plenty of fried options like fried pickles and french fries for munching. Yappy hour was incredible, we mostly visited for the dog aspect. You can let your dog off the leash and let them socialize and run around. Be careful eating, because doggos might jump on the table and steal your food. Service was quick. I mostly stayed outside, but when I went inside to the bar, it kind of smelled like urine... maybe stay outside, if you can. read more

The bouncers at Jakes, particularly the 3-4 working the night of Friday, April 5 are some of the smallest(metaphorically), most disgusting excuses for men that you could possibly find. To be a bouncer, you usually have to already be pretty severely insecure, and that usually causes these poor excuses for humans to have a power complex because they can read an ID, however these four really took that to another level. Not only will they miraculously be able to read your ID, but they will also laugh in your face and demean you as they do it, as if they don't look like they just got let out of their mothers basement. I probably won't ever go back, and i will do my best to spread the word about the jakes experience to everyone I know. It's not the establishment itself, but with those type of people as bouncers, it's really not worth going to. 0/10 read more

My wife wanted to take our puppy to jakes. She said also she was craving there hotdog and I was going to get a burger or their cheesesteak sandwich. Visited Jake's mostly to get a Ripper's hot dog and thoroughly enjoyed my experience from start to finish. I was lucky enough to visit on a Thursday while Yappy Hour was happening. As a dog-lover it was a joy seeing all the happy pups running around the patio. I grabbed a drink at one of the outdoor bars and placed an order for food. I was visiting by myself and it was kinda hard to find a spot to sit where I didn't feel like I was taking up a whole table for a larger group but I found a small spot in the back. My food came out quickly and everything was hot. One hot dog was absolutely LOADED with pimento cheese. Two huge mounds. The pimento was great. I did have to scrape some off the dogs but it was still tasty on the fries. The other hot dog had chili, mustard and slaw. This was good too. My only complaint was that I'm pretty sure the slaw had raw red onion in it, which is definitely not my jam. The fries were crispy, well seasoned and served with a really good dipping sauce. All in all, a top dog experience and I'd definitely return. Bouncers outside reminded me to wear my mask when I wasn't eating or drinking which was totally fine but it was weird seeing some of the staff without masks. read more

This place is a 0 star to say the least. I used to like this bar until god forbid I have to use the bathroom just like I do at every bar. I have irritable bowl syndrome and get diarrhea after eating anything greased or drink beer. So I go to the bathroom and little to my knowledge they have a cocaine problem. I see the bathroom door kick open into my legs and it's a bouncer looking down at me at my most vulnerable moment on the toilet. I couldn't believe my eyes. I was torn between hiring a lawyer or throwing myself at the person who bashed in. This is the worst establishment I've ever been to and they rely on drunk college kids to spend their money there to keep themselves open. I Do not recommend this place. read more

Stoped by this location at around 9pm because it was the only restaurant that was dog friendly open at that time. They have an open patio outside for all of the dogs to play together. I loved that it was great area for the dogs to run around but that means the pee smell is everywhere. The dogs literally pee on everything! The food was really good though! The cooks close down at 10 pm but it was nice and hot. My chicken strips were moist and crunchy! Definitely will come again for a doggy play date or hanging out with friends. read more

Love this place - I've been taking my dog to yappy hour on Tuesdays and Thursdays for almost a year now and it's so fun to kick back with a drink and watch all the dogs play. The outdoor bar area is a very cool and relaxed setting. It's big and open with plenty of seating and also has outdoor TV's. The bar gets 5/5 stars for great drinks, prices, and service....but the new menu/food is terrible so that's why the rating went down to a 3. A new vendor bid on the kitchen at this bar and completely changed the menu. They offer Poboy's, deep fried hotdogs (which are a beef and pork blend)... And a few other random items. I ordered a few drinks because I came with a friend during happy hour... And the drinks were great as usual. However, for the food I decided to stay safe and order chicken tenders and pimento cheese fries... (For some reason, this new menu doesn't have wings even though it's served at a bar). The chicken tenders were terrible if you can imagine that... The batter was weird and the tenders were undercooked. The fries weren't crispy and they tasted similar to what I would assume cafeteria food would be like. And the cook's version of pimento cheese was just shredded cheese and a random sauce... Jake's is an awesome bar with an extensive drink menu. Do note that there is very limited parking. I was fortunate enough to get there early enough to snag one of the two spots right in front. (Free after 6pm) We were carded at the front, and then greeted by the bar staff. The manager was incredibly interactive with the Yelpers and other patrons. We were provided with yummy hot dogs that's were on an interesting bun. One thing I ABSOLUTELY loved was their smoked wings. It's a dry rub that's sweet with a slight kick. You'll get about 6-8 wings for $12, so it's a bit expensive for me, but definitely worth it! I also tried their passion fruit cocktail, and it was soooo yummy! The ambiance is very comfortable considering it's a bar. I can imagine it being a hot spot for college kids and hipsters . They have two pool tables and some high top tables. Very cool spot ! If you do come on weekends they sometimes run out of items. They ran out of some of the beers and food. But that's ok.... It was a Sunday night and that's expected. Surprisingly good and creative brunch for a spot that was my go-to bar during my college years and twenties. The brisket Benedict is really good though the hollandaise is a bit thick. The BAE biscuit my wife had is one of the best breakfast sandwiches I've ever taken a bite of. Surprise your tastebuds, try the yellow dog BBQ brunch and you will thank yourself later. Would have loved to rate this local place higher but facts are facts. Been here a hundred times in the ole days for beers and twice recently for food. The BBQ is fantastic from Yellow Dog and really the only reason I came here to eat brunch.One out three people that work here seem to acknowledge you or even say hello upon arrival or during service. Biscuits have either fallen apart or taste undercooked and doughy. This will be the last time I come for food as they had no silverware for me when my dish arrived. So I had to wait whilst food began to get cold. Only reason they get 3 stars is because the deck area is awesome and the meats are great even though there served on mediocre biscuits. Jake's is the quintessential 5-Points college and sports bar, with 6 indoor HD screens and 5 outdoor screens that play sports and other available cable programming. The best part of Jake's is the outdoor deck/patio area. They have a fountain, plenty of deck area with seating, and an outside bar that is open on weekends and other busy times (seasonally, of course). Indoors, the beautiful old wood bar is often overlooked. You can also find the usual pool tables (pay), darts, a large shuffleboard table, and other video games. They have 50 domestic and import beers on tap, with plenty more available in bottles. As for bar food, I think the buffalo hot wings are some of the best in Columbia, as is the pizza by-the-slice. They also have every beer on the draught wall for $2.50 on Monday nights if you're looking to save some money. read more

I only have the bar experience, but I'm rather impressed with what goes on here considering it's essentially just a college bar. Drinks are dirt cheap, there's more outside than there is inside, which makes sense for this part of the world, there's cornhole to be played outside, dog friendly area, an outside bar, a stage, and all sorts of other forms of entertainment... I'm past the age where the impossibly loud bar is my thing anymore. I like to be able to hear myself think when I go out and drink. At Jake's, you have both options. Understaffing, out of products even being turned away because of capacity could all be given a pass. Walked in placed an order paid for an order and went back I'm to get the food. Was yelled at because the order was for an ubereats customer from the Greek village at USC. It was no effort on their part but the ability to fullfil a to go order. I wouldn't order food from them because they are apparently not equipped to handle it. I loved going here when I was down in Columbia for school. The inside has a pool table and shuffle board. The outside area has corn hole and music. The drinks here are a little over priced, but there is a full bar inside and outside. The outside area is almost like your own backyard and very welcoming. This place is an institution. A welcoming place to visiting football fans of the SEC or other programs. Gamecocks.of course are priority. Inside you'll find a few pool tables, dart board, shuffleboard and of course a long bar. Outside, two bar stations and a variety of TVs showing off the games of the evening, with the flags of all the SEC schools flying. Of course I'd give it more stars if it wasn't one incident back in my undergrad days where I was charged with a $50 bar tab when clearly I had only bought $5 dollars worth of drinks. I was recently made aware of a negative yelp review regarding yappy hour and Jung in particular. I would like to make a rubuttal on the remarks made. We come to Jake's specifically for Yappy Hour. Even though we have the luxury of having Jung there every Tuesday and Thursday keeping a harmonious balance between all the K9s there as an owner, it is your responsibility to be mindful of your fur baby that you bring in. Some people want to take full advantage of the situation and ignore their dogs behavior and expect to be cottled if and when an incident occurs. Jung will give you an opportunity to control your animal and stay but if another occurrence happens and you choose not to handle it appropriately you may be asked to leave. Jake's is a gift to those of us that want our dogs to interact with other dogs in a playful way. It is by far one of our favorite places to go because they allow our babies there as well. Jung is the icing on the cake as far as experience goes. He is professional, honest and loved by all four of our little monsters. read more

They also will start a tab without asking you and will give your card back to you with your tab still open, then charge you for not closing it. I worked here for years under the old management. The kitchen has gotten better since I worked there, but the clientele has gotten worse. It use to be a graduate school and older bar, but as you'd expect when the owner of Pavlov's buys it it has gotten younger and more greek and less chic. On the other hand, they still have an impressive draught beer selection. Craft and local brews all on tap. Friendly and helpful staff. Starting to get a good live music scene in there thanks to Reno Gooch. The farm to table kitchen is the biggest surprise. The food is great. Still have a great deck! Incredibly dog friendly! We really like Jake's patio. It is a dog friendly establishment, the patio area is super cool, and it is a nice place to sit in the sun and drink on a hot day. I really like that dogs can just run free here and play with their friends. The beer selection is very good and the wine list is good enough to keep me coming back for more. Jake's is great to take your dog...Its a lot of beautiful beautiful women..The problem is it's cliques and people come in groups..Everyone pretty much knows eachother and its not ideal if you are looking to get loose and have fun..It's a lot of standing around and groups of friends..Have went to Jakes several times and its a good laid back bar where many beautiful women just stand around looking good talking to eachother..Not my kind of place.. 3 out of 5 beers for JAKES read more
