As a fan of Hemingway the author, I always check out bars with his namesake. This one is a divey spot in a strip mall. There are pool tables inside and it's overly smokey outside. The staff are friendly. Tried the fried pickles and mushrooms: nice, crisp batter. The cocktails are overpriced and there aren't many beers on tap. They charge extra for a credit card, which isn't explained on the menu. Overall okay but not as generous as most dive bars. read more

Came to watch a afternoon game. The place is equipped with a stage, games and pool tables and also have a outside courtyard area. Our waitress was super sweet and attentive while manning the bar. Ordered the cheese sticks, fried mushrooms and teri hot and hot wings. They do not accept all flat/drum requests which was a bummer bc I only eat flats. The wings were ok. Nothing to brag about but the fried mushrooms were good and freshly made and a huge portion enough for 4+. The cheese sticks are huge! Lots of breading but plenty of cheese. Stopped in to check it out. Great food, great service! Got the Pepper Jack appetizer, great serving size and great flavor. Ordered Cajun wings, good size winds & good all around flavor. Variety of drafts including a few ciders. Extended selection of liquors including several house made sipping classics. This bar has a "everybody knows your name" kind of feel. Worst place ever. The kitchen closed 30 mins early, so I ordered a beer and asked the bartender if I could order a pizza to the bar, I even told him I'll order enough for the whole bar. He told me that it's perfectly fine. When the pizza got there the kitchen manager flipped out on me and when I mentioned the kitchen closing early and that the bartender told me it was okay, he told him to kick me out because he was about to "FUCK ME UP". This is the only place in Irmo that every time we visit, the waitress and the bartenders don't acknowledge you. Walk right pass you 3 or 4 times and don't even acknowledge your existence. This experience was AWFUL considering my boyfriend waited over 20 minutes BEFORE last call to revive service from a 65+ aged bartender, on New Years Eve mind you. Considering he waited patiently at the bar, while other customers were severed, with cash in hand, you could assume he would be served. But, no. Unfortunately, the male bartender refused service to him after he patiently waited in line. This type of treatment and service is unacceptable and I personally will not be condoning from this point forward. Spoiled chicken wings!!! . Be careful as my wife and I ordered the 25 wings and a side of raw fries Togo. After getting home and getting into the wings my wife bit into a wing that didn't smell or taste right. She called Hemingway's to be told she would have a credit with Rocco on our next visit. The best thing about this place is Rocco and Nicki, Jeff is a self absorbed dick head who makes his own rules and thinks he owns the place. He has always been rude to me and my friends and for no apparent reason. I have asked why on several occasions but he's never man enough to answer. There have even been times when he's denied me drinks (he wouldn't say no to me, but I would show up and he would literally serve everyone else around me, and would look at me and smirk until I left)again this falls into him not being man enough, and I'm not the only one he has done this to, I've heard other stories from people that i don't even know. We arrived to Hemingways at 11:45pm, 15 minutes before the kitchen closed and the bartender refused to put in an order of wings (strike one). In my opinion it is bad service to turn away a pregnant woman resuming the role as the designated driver for her group of friends. But that's what happened and the bartender claimed "you're pregnant, so you shouldn't be here in the first place, get out"(strike two). Then as my friends and I gathered ourself together in the car parked 3 businesses down for 5 minutes, they proceeded to call the police on us (strike three). Long story short, don't go there if you're hungry, pregnant or the designated driver. They would rather call the police on sober people than on regular patrons that leave over the legal limit every week. read more

The waitress has absolutely ignored me. Honestly, I'm not lying and am not exagerrating even a bit. I was completely and absolutely ignored by the waitress. Also the bar girl was very unfriendly. The only friendly people were the door guys. We were 3 at the table yet she only brought 2 menus for my friends and not for me. After they ordered their meals the waitress still was completely ignoring me as if I was not there. They asked me where I was from (I am from Northern Europe). Then I asked her why she was ignoring me and she told me she was not ignoring me. Oh really? Not saying hi, not bringing me the menu, not even asking me whether I'd like a drink or water, she calls that not ignoring? I am White, but this hole is a KKK hole that's for sure. Other white guys (from MD and NJ) by the bar told me this place sucks and they were right. The place is all smoking, no ventilation, very loud, too many TV screens and its boring. The band was fine though. Very racist. Not diverse. There were about 20-30 people, only one black woman with her white boyfriend. No Asians, no foreigners. No wonder! I reviewed Hemingway's about 5 years ago when it was in another location in the same shopping center. Not much has changed except it is a lot bigger, and the windows are clean. It is still seat yourself and it is still no frills and very boisterous with the video games, TVs, pool tables, and loud shouts of encouragement or derision based on how the video games were going. We visited on a Monday night about 5:30 and the men outnumbered the women by about 10 to 1. A friend recommended the wings there so that's what I ordered: Lemon Pepper at the suggestion of the waitress. As with every other wing place that I have ordered Lemon Pepper wings from, they were neither Lemony nor Peppery. What they were, were salty. Oh my goodness. I have never had such salty food in my life except when it was a mistake. And I love salt. I put it on everything. The wings were cooked very well, and I could tell I probably would have enjoyed them had I ordered another flavor. Now my husband. My husband loved his wild something something chicken sandwich and the potato salad. I tasted the potato salad and it was indeed very good. He cannot stop talking about the place (the food) and wants to go back ASAP. He would give the place 4 1/2 stars. I would give it a too early to tell benefit of the doubt 3 stars. So consider this a 3 1/2 star review. In reading some of the bad reviews between the lines, I would recommend going there early as apparently they have to throw people out for drunken rowdy behavior from time to time. read more
