This was my first visit to Reidsville and wanted to grab something to eat before my ride back to Greensboro. When we arrived, we were greeted in the parking lot, at the front door as a staff member asked for our beverage choices, and on the way to our seats from our waitress. Dining here felt so welcoming. Throughout our meal we were checked on, had our beverages refilled without asking-- staff was wonderful and attentive overall. As this is a typical diner, you head to seat of your choice and pay at the front counter towards the end of your meal. The menu had its breakfast options, sandwiches to choose from, and burgers as well. You know, diner food. All reasonably priced. We ordered quite some food and our total was roughly $35-- can't beat that! The banana pudding was deeeeeelicious! All homemade, even the whip cream. I enjoyed my meal a whole lot. The mashed potatoes and gravy, to quote the girl at the grill, " I wouldn't serve this or eat it." I responded, "why should I? I don't want it". It was served anyway. NOTE: Some of the info on the Yelp page is not correct.... this place is open until 10 PM, not early afternoon. And they take credit cards. ---------- For what it is, this is excellent. Reid's House is a very unassuming looking roadside restaurant on a main street in a small town. Reidsville NC is an old tobacco town that is within commuting distance of Greensboro NC and Danville VA. And while the inevitable sprawl of Walmarts and Lowes Hardware and strip malls is slowly creeping in around the edges, the town itself still feels like it is moving at a pace that is a notch more relaxed than the small cities nearby. Reid's House fits perfectly with that atmosphere. It's a crowded, busy place -- busy in customers but not the pace of eating and meeting up with friends and neighbors. There are perhaps 7 booths seating 4-ish and 9 to 12 counter stools, plus an area to sit and wait for a table. The staff is super friendly despite being pressed to keep up with everything. Wife and I ended up eating there breakfast and dinner one day recently (our planned dinner choice was closed) so we saw two shifts of the kitchen/wait staff and two four executed meals. We were very pleased. Breakfast for me was over medium eggs, bacon, grits, coffee, and wheat toast. The coffee was really good -- strong without being obnoxious. The eggs were cooked perfectly, and the grits(!) were perfect. Most places serving grits either cook them to death in the holding pan so that they come out grainy and clumpy or they are soup. These at Reid's House are still wet yet retain their mouth feel and flavor. Excellent. The bacon was good quality and cooked well. Wife had country ham and eggs with grits. The country ham had a deep and salty flavor, as we'd hoped for. We also shared a side of sausage gravy over biscuits. Plenty of good NC sausage enrobed in that white gravy. All in all an artery clogging meal, and so worth it. We saw waffles and pancakes go by us that looked great and smelled better. Returning for dinner, we went simple. Wife had a grilled cheese and bacon sandwich with fries (she ordered it jut to get more of that great bacon from breakfast) and I had a "Master Burger" which is basically a flat-top cooked double cheeseburger. Both were perfect for a late dinner food. Also on the menu are more hearty options -- pork chop plates, chopped sirloin, a variety of steaks and deli/southern diner sandwiches, soups, salads. I am sure they're good -- in a small town like this a restaurant depends on repeat business. I hope to try some of them when I am next in town. read more

Let's start with ambiance: this is an traditional road side dinner from the golden days! The 1/3rd bar, 2/3rds booth seating and the short order cook in full view of the patrons. Everyone knows everyone here! The owner is there helping 3-4 waitresses and the short order cook and all are busting their butts! A true diamond in the rough of Americana Dinning of yesterday. I ordered the baked chicken, baked sweet potato, hush puppies, fried okra, and it came with a salad. The food was perfect and just what I ordered. The serving was more than enough but not gluten. The waitress... well one took our order, one delivered our food and all 3 plus the owner checked on us several times I can not say enough about the service, food and atmosphere for this classic joint! We liked it so much we are coming back for breakfast in the morning. If it's fine dinning you want look elsewhere. But if you want great food awesome service worth the down home feeling of yesterday, this is the place for you! We were finally able to go enjoy a meal inside a restaurant today!! Ordered up two waffles cooked light, and a scrambled egg. Everything was cooked to our request! Sweet tea was delicious as always. Service wasn't terrible either. Reid's House is definitely somewhere everyone eats and with that said I wish they had a little more urgency behind keeping the tables cleaned off. Due to the new requirements for social distancing there are only three booths available to use and a handful of barstools. They have installed plexiglass where appropriate and seem to be cleaning the grill in between orders. read more

1st time there and won't ever go back. This place is filthy with flies everywhere. Left when a cockroach climbed up my shirt. We had already ordered our breakfast waffles, which were raw on the edges and had no taste at all. They were also flat, like a pancake. Not fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside, but limp all over. I don't recommend the waffles. The scrambled eggs were too soft and snotty, so be sure you ask for cooked eggs. However, the 3 half pieces of bacon and the two sausage patties were pretty tasty. Got through half my waffle when I saw a cockroach crawling towards my face since it was already on my chest. Of course, I freaked out and we left quickly. This diner has an A sanitation rating. Since this place was filthy, with flies and cockroaches, I would rate it a C-. So, you're hungry, you need a burger and maybe some hot, sizzling fries! This is what you're gonna get here. The grub is good, simple, and the people are the no muss, no fuss, down-home type . It's your typical diner/greasy spoon with a number of booths and a handful of stools. They serve burgers, sandwiches etc. and people seemed to enjoy their desserts (didn't have time to try). Two of us had the burger, I had a fish sandwich, fries were scorching hot (which is always a PLUS) and the hushpuppies were really pretty good. I believe I saw the owner there, he was greeting and schmoozing all the patrons, it's Americana at its finest. The restaurant appeared clean, well maintained and the bathroom was very tidy. These folks are okay by me, and hey, breakfast looks like it could be good. If I'm ever in Reidsville again, I would definitely give Reid's House an encore. I was surprised to see a "100" inspection rating on the wall, frankly. But on the plus side, the service was good and friendly, and the food was good enough, though not great. I had a country ham sandwich that was good, my dining partner had the fried flounder sandwich, which was over-cooked. The menu selection is good, and there were some good Southern things on the menu, like country ham, grits, biscuits and gravy. Swung through here for a quick lunch, bad choice. Ordered a steak and pepper sub with fries and drink. Well the Coke was tasty at least. The sub had neither steak nor peppers on it, which in my opinion are pretty key components of a steak and pepper sub. We have lived in Reidsville for just over a year and have just decided to try Reids house. We both ordered breakfast, called it in, picked it up. Normally there are errors in almost every call in order in every restaurant experience, however, everything was cooked to order and both my husband and I ate every bite. First time visit. I ordered bacon and eggs with homemade biscuit. My husband had eggs with hash browns and toast. I knows he wished he had a biscuit rather than toast. That biscuit was fluffy and light as air. One of the best I've had anywhere. Service was slow due to tiny cooking area that only allows for one cook at a time, but everyone was very nice. The cook had about 8 tickets up when we arrived so she was busy but kept her cool. We also shared a waffle which was good but not memorable. We will go back for sure! read more
