Came here on a Thursday night with my family. There was 8 of us. When I told the host how many were in my party he looked as if his head was about to explode.. it was quite comical. The waitress was very nice but clearly very over whelmed. She was the only waitress for all the tables in the one side of the restaurant including our large party. Our apps came and we had no plates, we had to stare at the apps on the table for 10 mins before we flagged down the bus boy for plates. our meals were supposed to come with soup/salad.. but they never came. The food was overall mediocre, prime rib special was pretty tough. Only plus was that they had an acoustic guy playing some good music. read more

Rally poor experience. I always support local business over chain restaurants. I have driven my here for four years on my way to work and have always wanted to stop in. We went on a Saturday at 1pm. We were seated quickly and saw they were still doing breakfast and got excited. We had our twin boys with us so we ordered theirs first and the out or order in. The food took forever and when it finally did come out it was horrible. The kids burger we ordered was rare. Do you even have to tell them well done? Apparently you did. When we sent it back, "oh, did you want this well done?". Are you kidding me. Our food was mediocre at best. Everything was out of a box and nothing seemed to have any love. The waitstaff was bad and very confused. The manager and a waiter got into it right next to us about table assignments. We won't be returning and wouldn't recommend to anyone. read more

I kept giving Jake's a try because there is only one other place to have breakfast in the "central part" of Richboro. I just keep getting disappointed because for such average orders, they make them worse than I would at home. "Stuffed French Toast" - (sigh) I can tell you the process: Two pieces of white bread (plain), strawberry slices in the middle then dipped in eggs (no cinnamon or nutmeg that I could taste) - THE MIDDLE IS NOT EGGED OR "TOASTED" just plain in the middle with the strawberries.... WHY JAKES? Why wouldn't both sides of each slice be french toast??? ugh... out side of the breakfast Jakewich and the average but not horrible quesedillas... there is not much going on here. But if you like plain plain plain food this is your place. read more

I see mixed reviews for Jake's, and truth be told, I have never come to Jake's for anything but breakfast. It seems like the mixed reviews come from people who are going for lunch or dinner. While they do have a full bar and plenty of seating for lunch/dinner, I try to judge restaurants based on what I know they do well - which is breakfast in this case. Jake's is a diner at heart, and if you don't go to a diner to order an omelette, you're likely doing it wrong. That said, Jake's excels when it comes to omelettes. I prefer to build my own omelette, and I always get the same one, which is as follows: egg whites, broccoli, spinach, onions, sausage and cheddar. Extra onions on the potatoes and the potatoes well-done. What I love is that you tell them extra onions on the potatoes and they load it up with onions like you wouldn't imagine. I'll have to add a picture of what that looks like. I have yet to order this and not love it, and I've definitely gotten this omelette 30+ times. My sisters and family agree this is the spot for omelettes (breakfast is our favorite meal), and I'm really thankful this is so close to home. I have been to the Newtown location three times and it seems to always be packed for lunch. I never have to wait for a table and they are pretty fast with getting food to the table. I have tried three different meals and I am a big fan of the Tuna Melt. So delicious, they serve it open-faced and the cheese and tomato were a perfect blend. I visited Jake's for the first time at lunchtime on a weekday. Maybe I just ordered the wrong thing, but I was very disappointed. The restaurant and bar area are very cozy, and the server was very nice. I ordered the hot turkey sandwich, which was two slices of white bread with a few slices of turkey inside, smothered with gravy and served with a little cup of cranberry sauce. Both the gravy and cranberry sauce seemed canned. The gravy was very gloppy, and the cranberry sauce contained no cranberries--the texture was really more like jelly. The sandwich came with fries, which were decent. Their potato chips and breakfast potatoes are likewise well done. Their eggs Benedict and turkey and bacon club sandwich were average. However, the sandwich was very underwhelming--maybe I should go for breakfast instead. read more

Jake's has tons of loyal customers and as far as I can tell it's because there is no alternative to the diner style service and food in a cleaner and quainter atmosphere. I was at Jake's several months ago with my two kids. The food is far from impressive, but they were reasonably-priced for the large servings and staff was wonderful with a 1yr old and 3yr old. (The 3yr old asked to go to a restaurant for a special occasion.) It was an all-around great experience. We have been meaning to return, and finally had an excuse for Father's Day. Service was fast, but not particularly impressive. The amount of food served has decreased in several obvious, corner-cutting manners. Last time I believe the pickles were two spears, this time it was two disks that could never fill and sandwich. The chicken fingers had shrunk, in particular the amount of meat inside (Breading amount might have been the same.) I swear that my tuna melt came with three slices of bread before. Not that I actually ate the third slice -- my 1yr old enjoyed it -- I don't care that much about smaller pickles and the loss of a bread slice I wasn't going to eat. I dislike being told that there are no healthy alternative sides for an adult dish. Kids are allowed to choose applesauce for the kids menu. But my tuna melt and my husband's burger only could come with chips, or upgrade to fries for a fee. The waitress said "The chips are free. So you could just get them." Really? Aren't I consuming enough oil and salt yet? Frankly the pile of chips on an order for an adjacent table turned my stomach. I guess chips are one thing they aren't cutting back on. In some ways we were lucky that we could only eat finger food sides. When I looked at my fork it had old food stuck on it. My spoon had a nice thumb print that did not match any of mine. My daughter's utensils looked washed but dirty, like the dirty dish water had not been removed. I could have complained; but after looking closer at the restaurant, I wasn't sure I could trust the cleanliness of the next set. When our food arrived, the plates were clean but scraped and scratched. They looked dirty at first. I wouldn't have used them to serve company at home, maybe a family dinner if we were in a pinch. Waitress spent awhile chatting about dance schools with a nearby table. To her credit, when the conversation was done, she did check in on our table and got a refill for my water. But she really had just turned around to leave the bill. I'm not taking my kids back. The entire meal was just too heavy and unbalanced. The lack of a healthy side for adults, even for a charge, is absolutely unacceptable. The dirty utensils crossed the line for me. Three strikes! And I'm not sure what exactly happened in the kitchen or back area, but I think something that wasn't supposed to happened, something "dangerous" did occur. One of the servers was looking a little uncomfortable, couching and drinking water, when someone came from the back telling her to report it and that in some way it was dangerous. What was the bigger disappointment was when we brought to the attention of the waitress she was very dissmissive about it. Came in for a nice lunch today. The minute we walked over to the bar the bartender/ server was throwing things around, he was not in the least bit welcoming. My boyfriend had asked for him to turn a game on that we came in to watch knowing Jakes had TVs in front of the bar. He had never changed the channel and kept saying he would get to it when he found the time to. After about an hour and a half we walked out and thanked him for turning the game on (which he never did) and he sarcastically said back, sure no problem. This is a hometown place we grew up at and the last 3 times we have been there I've found the service has changed drastically. I was in the Newtown location but I didn't see that location on Yelp. Anyway I went here and it was good overall. Sat down right away it was a little empty but it was Thursday. I felt like the server was a little unknowledgeable regarding the menu but maybe I was expecting too much. When I asked if the pasta was fresh she gave a hesitant yes and it didn't taste fresh. I ordered the chicken, rice, and ginger soup not bad but a little bland and not enough ginger. For my entree I ordered the chicken over penne and pesto. It tasted decent but the pasta didn't taste fresh like I was told, the chicken was cooked well but the sauce was oily and not a ton of flavor. The chef seemed to use excessive amounts of cheese and parsley to try and give it a good flavor but I just kept thinking the sauce was bland. The portions were huge and you definitely got quantity if not the best quality. For the price though it wasn't bad and maybe I am just expecting too much from this place. I do hear their breakfasts are fantastic so I may have to try it for breakfast but I don't believe I will dine here again for lunch or dinner. Overall if you like ok food with large portions and fair prices you will enjoy Jake's! My biggest critique would be to make your portions smaller and invest in some fresher ingredients and not rely on parsley and huge amounts of cheese to flavor a dish. read more

Tried it for dinner turned out to be a big mistake. Known for their breakfast, I should of known better when I saw the place was dead at 3:45 PM on a Saturday Afternoon, big red flag! Was in the mood for a steak and I see on the table they have a placard showing a Rib eye steak special. Sounded good, so when I go to order it, the waitress says oh the specials don't start until 4:00 PM. My GF asks "well its only 15 minutes away, would you mind asking the chef if they could make it for us?" So the waitress, who was a little clueless but nice goes back and supposedly asked the chef if they can make me the steak since its only 15 minutes off. She come back with a flat NO! No apologies. Are you freaking kidding me ?? The place is empty and they are refusing to make me steak because I'm 15 minutes early knowing I could just sit 15 minutes if I wanted to or walk out!!? Should of walked out at that point but was a long day was tired and asked for a plain burger instead which was just OK by the way nothing special! My partner ordered a crab cake that might of been the smallest crab cake I have ever seen in my life , maybe half the size of my burger. Over priced as well for what they served! The second situation happened last night, I had ordered the Hot Turkey sandwhich amd te salt content was so heavy tat I could only eat the sliced Turkey. Way below average diner. We came here for lunch at my sisters request because she said they had good soup and good fries. I got a cup of coffee, and wasn't watching as I put the cream in, thank god my niece was because she said "EW, what was that big chunk that just made your coffee splash," I put my spoon in, and there goes the completely spoiled, formed, coffee creamer at the bottom. The waitress apologized and got me a new one. Then, my sister and I both got the French onion soup. As she was eating hers, she pulled out a piece of white rubber, pretty small, but big enough to notice it wasn't part of the soup. The waiter did feel bad and explained it to be a part of the spatula they stir the soup with. No excuse. He took it off the bill. My soup seemed fine, an average FO soup. Then my appetizer came which is what I ordered for lunch. The potato skins. These were so over cooked and burnt, I questioned if they were also microwaved. The lettuce they used for plate decor was withered also. I took a couple bites and was done. No flavor, hard as a rock. I understand things happen at restaurants, but three incidences, at least one that absolutely could have been prevented (the creamer) is enough to tell me they don't pay enough attention to what they're serving, nor do they care. My husband raved about how good there food was and I gave in and went to dinner with my husband and daughter. I will never go back. The food was brought out cold and the scallops I had were extremely salty. My husband had the crab cakes and he said they were not the same as he had there before. His cole slaw was awful and looked grey and old. My daughter had the ceasar wrap and she said it was awful. I hear they are good for breakfast, but I wont go back to try it. I was always a Jakes fan .. Back when he first opened the breakfast and wait staff was excellent..now I have been there for the new eatery that is dinner and a new bar .. I was happy until I received a coupon that said I was able to get $5 off of $25 .. It was sent in my e mail and stated that the coupon was to be present .. So being the age of technology I brought my smart phone and showed the waitress the coupon and the email .. She turned it down stating that I had to print out the coupon.. I was there with my son and accepted that as ok not wanting to make a big deal .. The waitress came back and said she asked the manager who also turned done the coupon .. I ordered a glass of wine for $8 and the glass was not even 3 ounces .. Also I ordered a turkey club on rye and the bread was burned along with French onion soup that was also very burnt.. I chalked it up as a random bad visit and was enjoying a rare dinner with my 20year old son so I decided to send an email later to let the manager for future reference .. I felt very put down by his response . I never complain but I feel the lack of service recovery was not a concern . He also says he is the owner/manager .. It's a shame because it's a local spot and I always support local businesses but I feel that is not something that this owner/ manager does not care about ..his only answer was that the wine prices may be adjusted and he says he gave me what they are required to give ..
