I was in shock of course, having never had a car stolen before. I got a call from Salem police two days later saying they found the car. It was impounded so we drove up on Monday afternoon and went to rescue it. I couldn't believe how the thieves sought to destroy my well-loved classic car. I couldn't start it and there was TONS of mud inside the car, under the hood, the back area under the hatchback was smashed along w/ a taillight. I knew I was going to pay for someone else's crime, which sickened me. The tow company recommended Valley Specialist so I had the car towed there that afternoon. Very nice staff, the young woman who runs the front office was so kind, love the sweet mascot they have (dog). I was fearing a big mess and big bill. The next morning I got a call from the shop and the first step was replacing the starter. I approved it. About 2 hrs later I found a receipt that I bought a new starter from a local shop for a new starter. I called the local shop and they called Valley Specialists and told them it was under warranty. I got a call from VS about 1 pm stating the car was working and that seemed to be the only problem w/ the car-mechanically speaking. The starter was swapped out for free and the bill was just $132 for the labor! I was thrilled! Without a doubt.....Valley Specialists are top notch and honest! I will definitely use them if I need them and I'm in the area! THANK YOU FOR HELPING TO EASE MY PAIN!

Took my truck in to this place due to loss of power when accelerating…read more The did a diagnosis and the truck threw a p1401 code (insufficient air flow at egr valve) and a p303 ( intermittent misfire on #3 cylinder) They told me it needed a tune up. I agreed to what they said was the problem and gave them the go ahead on their recommendation. When I picked up my truck when they called me and told me it was ready, the mechanic mentioned that I had a refrigerant leak in my air conditioner. Well I know that wasn't there before I took my truck in because they put dye in the refrigerant just because it will show leaks(easy to see) I check my fluids regularly because my power steering has a leak and I don't want to have it go dry on me. The tune up consisted of new plugs, new boots for the plugs and a new pvc valve, he also installed a new fuel filter which I provided. The bill for the diagnostics and parts and labor was extremely high I thought $729.79. When I took possesion of my truck it still had the same problem only now I have a refrigerant leak now too. I thought it was way too much for the tuneup so I checked at the local ford dealership and gave them the bill I received and asked them what they would charge for the something that was done to my truck. I was given an estimate of a little over 500 bucks. They told me they didn't understand why the mechanic didn't check the egr system to see if it was plugged with exhaust matter as that was listed on the codes and it wouldn't of taken maybe 1/2 an hour to do so when he changed the plugs. Especially since it gave the code for insufficient air flow. I was told by the mechanic that a plugged egr is one of the more common causes for loss of power for the engine in my truck. Needless to say it cost me another 500 dollars to have the problem fixed and I haven't got an estimate to fix the refrigerant leak yet. It took me all but 200 dollars I get for my disability check in a month to pay this guy and half of my next month's check to have the real problem fixed. I went to this shopbecause of a recomendation from a friend. I'm sorry after my interaction with this shop I won't give a reccomendation except to say you might want to go somewhere else.

They also addressed a wheel bearing issue they could take care for me- which was an already known issue to me, but I wasn't certain if they were able to resolve it during the same appointment. Between the diagnosis of my turbo & wheel bearing, ordering & delivery process of the parts, and service, I got my car within 2 days. They were absolutely great & transparent about anything they came across or might have issues with that may change the estimate. I was very pleased with their customer service, ability to provide proper care to my car, and their mechanic who did all of the work. The "Air Box Repair" & Filter Charge: The owner claims the $101 was to "repair damage to the air box." As line item #5 on my receipt clearly shows, I was charged $25.91 for the filter, $26.00 for two metal clips, and $49.50 in labor strictly described as "Remove & Replace Engine Air Filter Element." Snapping on two clips during a routine filter change does not justify $101 total, nor does the receipt list any actual repair labor for the box itself. 2. Inaccurate Claims About My Review: Brake Inspection: The owner accused me of "fraud" regarding an $80 inspection charge. I explicitly acknowledged that "While they didn't charge for the brake inspection itself, the overall experience left a bad taste in my mouth." I acknowledge the $0 charge on that specific line item. Caliper vs. Total Brake Cost: The owner claimed I said calipers were $900. I never said that. I stated the total brake repairs came out to over $900--which is accurate, as the front disc brakes ($842.24) and rear drum service ($132.00) totaled $974.24. My review explicitly stated the calipers themselves were "almost $250" ($124.14 x 2 = $248.28), which is accurate to the penny. 3. Unclear Communication on Calipers: Replacing calipers isn't routine maintenance for standard brake wear; it's a major component replacement. Check with any reputable shop and they will agree. Replacing them without clearly explaining why the original calipers had failed--rather than just servicing pads and rotors--lacks basic transparency. Bottom Line: Instead of addressing legitimate concerns over high labor rates ($274 to change a single serpentine belt, $49.50 labor for an air filter element), the owner chose to misquote my original review and throw around baseless accusations. Please ask yourself if being accused of fraud is what you want as a customer before you do business with anyone. Buyer Beware: Take my situation as an example of the response you can expect from this shop if you express honest dissatisfaction. I stand by my experience and my invoice.
