    Chicken and dumplings

Wow another amazing find! Doing laundry up the road and find this place. We had some Hungarian dish with chicken and dumplings and it was delicious. The place is clean..the waitress was all alone handing the bar and tables and did great job. Highly recommend.

    We love coming here

What a treat! Everything was fantastic at Jake's! The service was beyond incredible! For such a small diner, the Overall experience was wonderful! The stuffed French, toast and pancakes were delicious! I really enjoyed the four egg omelette!

    Not very good at all

Tried Jakes for the first time for the Fish fry they have on Friday during lent. All I can say is the chef must be scared to season his food because the French fries were wilted, soft and not a spec of seasoning or even salt. The Tartar sauce was , so so. The Fish was NOT seasoned and no crunch at all, it was simply BLAND, breaded, kind of like If you were feeding your 95 year old mother with no teeth and no taste. The cole slaw was outstanding, very good on that one item. Chef needs to season his food, nothing special here... price was fair for food. The service seemed very good, but JUST NO Taste! The only reason Im giving g them some credit is because the coleslaw and service.. fire the chef!

The place was BUSY and we sat down at a recently unoccupied, but still full of dirty dishes, booth to get a seat (the waitress near the door instructed us to, "go ahead and find an empty spot." It took a little while for the table to be cleared and the servers to acknowledge us, but not TOO long considering how packed it was. The food was very good and the servers were attentive with refills on the coffee and soda. I had the Herb Nelson (a scramble) and my partner had a burger. Either way they did let me switch to a coffee. It was very typical burnt dinner coffee. The food took a little while to come out, but when it did...yum!! I had the eggs benedict with hash browns. It was all seasoned perfectly. I normally prefer my potatoes a bit crispier, but they were delicious. My husband had a western egg sandwich on a croissant, which he enjoyed very much. We shared a half order of biscuits and gravy. I would get my own next time... too good to share. We also had a slice of French toast and a pancake with the "turtle" topping. The French toast was NOT cinnamon, which is what I am used to, so the first bite I was a little thrown, but I would definitely get it again. The pancake with the turtle topping, it wasn't all topping, they had mixed the pecans and chocolate chips right into the batter and then drizzled it with caramel and topped with whipped cream. All delicious! The actual building may be hard to find if you don't have good gps. There is currently no signage with the name of the restaurant. The window does say Diner so at least you know it's food, haha. Go. Have breakfast. Or lunch, that also looked delicious.

It's less than a 10 minute drive from downtown Akron but it's off the beaten path. All locals (except me) in here. When I went (10AM Friday) the place was almost full, and I was dining alone, so I sat at the counter, happily next to the kitchen. To look at the kitchen was like looking inside a bee hive, bustling with activity but barely a sound. I could just make out what was being calmly stated "2 Silver Dollar, Salmon, Country Fried, 2 Over Easy..." It was fun to watch, but what was important was the output. It took just over 6 minutes from the time I order until it was sitting in front of me, and everything was perfect! The waitresses were so efficient. I saw my order hit the window and in about 12 seconds it was delivered. They were so customer focused, they were (jokingly) fighting over refilling my tea. When I was done and paid for I waited outside for Uber to pick me up (3 min). I looked back on what I'd just experienced, and snapped a picture of the two parking lots of cars for Fred's Diner. I counted and there were 32 cars at Fred's. OK maybe 10 were staff so 22 cars for customers, let's say on average there were 2 customers per car (remember I walked here so no car for me). By my calculation, Fred's was feeding 44 people every 30 minutes or so. No wonder they're only open 4 days a week and only for breakfast - lunch. I calculate they might serve 3200 meals in those 4 days, and then take 3 days off to get ready for the next week. I love this place. Wish I lived here so I could come more often.

There were a bunch of regulars sitting at the counter and chatting it up with the servers. We grabbed a table and were greeted right away. The server checked on us often but didn't smother us. We also witnessed a lot of folks coming in to grab to-go orders. The menu is very simple and straightforward. They serve breakfast all day and lunch service begins at 11am. We both had breakfast. Between us, we had scrambled eggs with cheese, eggs fried over-medium, bacon, French toast, pancakes and potatoes. Everything was decent. I wished that the cheese had been cooked into the scrambled eggs and allowed to melt, but that was okay. Also, the texture of the breakfast potatoes were like mashed potatoes that had been smashed and burned on the flattop grill. We weren't a fan of those. Overall, the place was cute and quaint and the staff was friendly. Everything was priced very reasonably as well. Also, anywhere you can find the locals at is usually a good sign!

As for everything else, this little diner is definitely locally owned and locally loved. It was only a few minutes from the farm I took my bf to go apple picking on the far east side of Cleveland. FYI!!! - The menu online is incredibly outdated!! Each thing is about 50% more expensive. Use the attached menu pictures to get an accurate idea of prices in late 2025. This is no longer a cheap place to eat. :( After about 15 minutes of waiting, we were sat at the counter right next to the cash register and could hear everything the staff said. I was enlightened as to how terrible they are treated by stingy, entitled customers. I felt terrible about my impatience at getting seated and getting our food but it seems like all the staff and cooks were just burnt out today. They still did a pretty good job at making yummy food though! My bf got a skillet with home fries and wheat toast. This was a lot of food and the toast was very thicccc and very heavily buttered. I ordered a gyro salad with tzaziki sauce and it came with buttered triangles of pita bread. Since we weren't prepared for the price changes, we just got water to drink. We both were shocked at how LARGE the portions were! The gyro meat was so good and the pita bread was nice and lightly buttered. My bf was a huge fan of the sausage in his skillet. Because we didn't want to leave the food in the car for a few hours, we ate everything and did not have leftovers although we could have! Not sure how well my gyro salad would taste as leftovers though so it was probably best I ate everything. Lastly, I made sure to thank them and tip generously. I hope everyone else there did the same. I ended up paying about $42.
