Came here for brunch while in from out of town -- we were able to get a table for 6 within about 30 minutes on a Friday at 11am, and the service was great (our waiter was a delight). The mimosas were good and some of our party liked their food a lot, but the dishes seemed to be hit or miss. I got the famous hash and was very disappointed, so was the other person who got it -- tasted overpoweringly of onions and was not good. The bread that came with my dish was excellent, which was what I filled up on. Overall I think the place is pretty okay, but I wouldn't recommend the hash! read more

Yep. It's as good as they say. I thought I was sneaky coming in on a Friday morning by myself, but there was still a wait out front. This is good sign to me! I went in and was able to grab a seat at the bar alongside some regulars. I asked for recommendations and was told the shrimp and grits, biscuits/gravy, and breakfast sandwich were all out of this world. The guy next to me ordered a dish and when I saw it, I closed my menu and that was that. I forget the exact name, but it was like a hipster juevos rancheros. Black beans with jalopeño cheddar cornbread, 2 eggs any style, salsa, sour cream, and chives all piled high. I opted to add avocado as well and a perfectly ripened avocado was definitely a needed element for this platter (see pic). The whole breakfast was 9 bucks and welllllll worth it. The ambiance was casual, relaxed, and the waitresses were doing a fantastic job. The only thing keeping me back from a full 5 stars is the price.. 9 was worth it for my meal, but there were a lot of things that were 12-14 bucks. We don't come anymore. They have great food but as of now they have no (ahem...froo froo) espresso coffee drinks or hot chocolate - and they won't tell you until you are seated/ordering. Also, still on their menu. Please get your espresso machine fixed! I'm (almost) speechless that the owner/manager has been so slow to drag their feet - I'd safely estimate between 6 months to a year. You've always charged a small fortune for espresso/hot chocolate; all this time you would have easily recouped your funds for a machine or infrastructure repair, a rental, or a used la marzocco on ebay! It's true, the repair folks are busy, but the backlog is several weeks, not months. COVID is making running businesses more expensive, but this is low hanging fruit. At least 12 times in the past several months we have left or not even come by in favor of a competitor. As our average bill is $75 - that's $900 towards a solution and likely nothing compared to the other folks who have shifted to another breakfast spot. read more

Our first visit to Jake's we randomly selected it from a Yelp search as we were driving to a destination further north. The hubby likes hash and the description and reviews drew us in. All the hash varieties are displayed on the wall behind the hostess, but don't get your heart set on some scrumptious hash variety hanging there, they probably don't have that one cooking that day. Don't be too disappointed though, the hash of the day is always rotating and they are all delicious! Our second visit was this past weekend, we were a little surprised at the crowd out front and the 40 minute wait estimate, but it was a beautiful day so we didn't mind a bit of the wait. The breads are either made in house or somewhere nearby, always fresh and delicious. Their Country Benedict is a savory twist on traditional biscuits and gravy I recommend trying. This most recent visit I had the grilled cheese (bacon and tomato too please) with curry tomato soup and both were delicious. If we're back in the area we'll be looking to visit again. read more

We had three meals between the two of us. The waitress suggested a side of today's hash or a fresh blueberry pancake. We ordered one side of each plus andouille sausage Benedict and pork belly Benedict. The star was the blueberry pancake with the bite of sour/sweet berries and fresh maple syrup. Although NETA was my primary motivation for getting to Northampton, Jake's was a close second. Had a phenomenal lunch here, because of the quality of the food and the warmth of the staff. I had (I believe it was called) the green valley salad with grilled mahi. There is a magical shallot dressing that is on it. Plus, pickled onions! Mahi was cooked perfectly. My friend had the grilled cheese and soup special; both were excellent. We were attended to by a few different staff people because of a shift change, and not one of them blinked an eye when I breastfed my infant son at the table. I wish everywhere I've taken my baby was as accommodating as Jake's. Also, they have baby changing tables in both the men's and women's room, which, to me, indicates a great attention to detail. read more

Sensational Sunday breakfast (Bastille Day of this year) well worth the 45-minute wait (as predicted, almost to the minute, by the hostess). Everything was cooked perfectly. Better half ordered the massive Jake's Breakfast Sandwich, served on a jumbo English muffin. The sandwich was so abundant, she had to take it down with a knife and fork, and she was only able to polish off about 60 percent of it (though she is petite). I ordered the 3-egg omelet with chorizo (perfectly succulent and spicy, though not overpowering) and cheddar, which comes with expertly cooked herbed homefries and choice of toast. I opted to upgrade to the biscuit and -- man -- was I ever glad I did. Moist and chewy, heavy and just the slightest touch of sweetness. This needed nothing but the butter with which it was adorned, but I'm already wondering what Jake's version of biscuits-and-gravy (the Country Benedict, I believe) must taste like. The omelet was princely enough to challenge this husky boy (though I retained my membership in the clean-plate club). Waitress was lovely -- a slender, even wiry blonde woman, left-handed with a crocodile smile (in the sense of being cute and sly, not duplicitous) -- and she was right on us with coffee refills and everything we needed, though we didn't catch her name. A real pro, though. One of the most superb breakfasts out we've had in nearly forever, rivaling the exceptional Hominy Grill in Charleston, S.C. And the whole thing came in under $25 before tip, really a bargain for the quality of fare. read more

Popular as ever when we visit Northampton, Jake's was full on a Saturday. We had to wait about 10 minutes as opposed to the 30 they predicted. The menu is wonderful, full of good choices, homemade bread and cinnamon buns. My Lox Benedict was delicious. I have a problem, however with the common practice of restaurants adding hot peppers or cayenne to dishes not traditionally spicy, and not mentioning it! I couldn't eat the home fries, spiced with cayenne! A shame, as I love potatoes for breakfast. Next time I'll ask for potatoes without this spice. read more

Great little spot in Northampton! Came in from out of town for graduation and saw this place and checked it out. The Coolidge scramble is loaded with goat cheese and perfectly roasted whole garlic gloves. Super tasty and the perfect amount of food. Opt for the sourdough upgrade and the side of homemade jam, it's definitely worth it. Their specials were great too - pork belly Benedict was just rich enough, and with the roasted garlic and kale, it wasn't too indulgent. Flowing coffee and great service tops it all off. Highly recommend! Be prepared to wait a little bit though, but the surrounding shops are cute. read more

Been eating here over the years longer than many. Ate here the first time in the mid 1980s. Food was ok--typical breakfast food, pricier than usual. It was $2.50 for a cup of coffee. Silly but real complaint: We are offered a range of breads to eat with our meal, including an English Muffin. We get our bill and are charged for ordering English Muffins (as opposed to other breads). I just wish we'd been told that it's extra to have a freaking English Muffin. Jake's was pretty hyped up for brunch, so going in, I was worried that it wouldn't live up to expectations. On top of that, I was part of a group of 8, which is usually a mess to work around for smaller venues. I'm happy to report that the restaurant was super accommodating, we were able to be seated and served immediately, and the attention we got from our waitress was downright superb. You won't want to miss out on the coffee here - my cup was never empty, and the beans were super fresh. I had the Country Benedict (two buttermilk biscuits with chorizo gravy and two eggs), which was a TON of food for $10, but it will weigh you down and put you striaght into a food coma, so beware. My friends loved the Jake's Benedict and the burgers as well, so feel free to come and have a ball with their entire menu. If you're in Northampton and need a place to eat with a friend or 7, Jake's is the way to go - hands down. read more

One of the best (maybe the best!) breakfasts/brunches I have ever had. I was visiting from out of town so I don't know if I will ever get to eat here again, but I hope so! My Downtown Scramble was amazing as were the potatoes, but the hash of the day that we got to share for the table - I think it was called Moroccan Hash - was soooo good! It was such an amazing mixture of flavors. If we ever end up in Northampton again, I hope we will be able to try the Jerk Hash! Staff was wonderful as well. Also the interior is pretty tight, therefore, if you plan on going in a large group, you won't have too much room to stretch your arms. The atmosphere was bright, welcoming, and cozy. Perfect for those who want to relax, have good food, and enjoy the morning (whenever your morning is). The Build Your Own Homefries were a great deal, my group order them as an appetizer to our breakfast. You can load your potatoes with all sorts of toppings for different price ranges such a bacon, cheese, onions, shallots, etc. The dish came out on a skillet and everything was perfectly cooked, it can easily be split among 2-4 people depending on how hungry you are. The one dish that is to die for is the Jalapeno Cornbread, the combination between sweet and heat was incredible. Even if you are not a fan of spicy foods this dish would be perfect because there is only a tiny bit of spice, it's the flavor of the Jalapeno itself that comes out the most. There is also a fantastic blueberry dipping sauce that comes on the side if you need a bit more sweetness. (Great texture) Overall, the Pancakes, Poached Eggs, Omelettes, and all the sides were cooked perfectly and well executed. If you are looking for a casual eatery with high class breakfast foods, I would highly recommend going to Jake's. read more

Came in for brunch today. Was sat down pretty quick in a table meant for 4 (there were five of us) in a busy area near the hall where all the servers are rushing back and forth. (I didn't care but my family felt very restricted and claustrophobic) We ordered a burger, pblt (pork belly blt), their "special" pork belly Benedict, California chicken sandwich. Everything was meh and salty. The special side of the day was coleslaw which I think was really really not tasty. It had red onions (red onions?!?!?) and was overly salted. It was legit inedible imo. (No one in my group ate it bc of how salty it was) The home fries on my plate was burnt and there was a piece that seemed like it came from the bottom of a pan (all stuck together-chunk Of burnt potatoes). Not appetizing... I was pretty excited for the innovative menu with the pork belly and all but the flavor just didn't deliver. They need to cut back on the salt in just about everything. I expected a little bit more for $14 for an eggs Benedict. (What is this pricing...more expensive than Boston, jeez) The only things I enjoyed was the plenty avocado on the chicken sandwich and the service which was great. I was in Northampton for work and came here for breakfast on a Sunday. This is a super popular spot - it seems like all of the Pioneer Valley comes here. It's a very down home, no frills kind of place. The staff is friendly and their menu is a great balance of traditional and interesting. I was excited to try their hash of the day, which was andouille sausage on the day I came, not really my thing, so I passed and went with the breakfast burrito, which was delicious! It's everything you want a breakfast burrito to be and it had their awesome breakfast potatoes inside. They use chunks of potato, not hash browns, which, as a potato fan, I enjoyed. When I was leaving the hash of the day changed to pastrami and Swiss, so I think they use what they have. I wish it had been that when I arrived - I would have tried it! I don't think you can go wrong with their food here though, it's tasty and there is something for everyone. The wait was long and I imagine that's true in most weekends. I went around 10:00am and waited 45 minutes a for a seat at the bar. Honestly, I think they forgot about me though because when I went in to ask about the wait, they looked a little embarrassed and seated me right away. Service is really great and it's a fun atmosphere. If you are in the area, I'd totally recommend this spot either for groups or if you're traveling solo. read more
