New to the area and had Breakfast here today for the first time ever and went here based on a few people ranting and raving about this place. Seriously, we have had better Breakfasts at Panera's and Diners in the region. Old place in an old building with Metered Parking on the street you have to pay for and it is like $.75 for an hour or so. It was NOT crowded here when we arrived, there were a few people here, but, plenty of seats and tables to choose from. So, not being busy is not an issue for our visit, or, at least it should not be. In other words, they had plenty of staff to accommodate all dining here upon, during and throughout our visit here which was just under an hour. Rest Room did not have a working hand blow dryer and there were NO Paper Towels to utilize either. Foaming Liquid Soap was great and lots of hot water to wash hands with. Decent employees, but, they don't seem happy here. The food was good and some of it was bad, real bad. Pancakes were home-made from scratch, NOT from a Box or Can and EXCELLENT! Highly recommend them. Really Nice Grits made FRESH and great eggs too. Toast was done just right, tasted fresh and most likely made locally. Coffee tasted on the burnt side, do not recommend it. Breakfast Potatoes were AWFUL, really down right AWFUL and BAD! Dry, no flavor and no observable Canola Cooking Oil or Extra Virgin Olive Oil or Paprika and they added a whopping portion of either Cayenne Pepper, Black Pepper, Jalapeno's, or, all of the above, or something which made them un-edible due to being too spicy to consume. I attempted and tried nicely and calmly to advise the Waitress of the spiciness, but, she was just not having it and stated that they did not season them that way. The waitress was down-right INSISTENT and DEFENSIVE about the Potatoes NOT being spicy, which were Red Potatoes with skins on them. Well, somebody did today and the Breakfast Potatoes were HORRIBLE!!! Sad, but true. A word to the wise. Never argue with the Customer when they tell you something ain't right or has been incorrectly over-seasoned. People in the Kitchen DO MAKE MISTAKES!!! If it's not right, fix it and get it right and don't argue. Just do your job, correct any fixable issues and accommodate the customer as best as possible so that they enjoy their meal and want to return and also so that they will recommend what you are doing correctly so that others will want to dine there. In the end, it will be better for you and the customer. Bad news spreads fast these days, especially over the Internet. It only takes a small amount of effort to get it right. Just Do It! So, get it right the first time when the Customer brings it to your attention and don't argue! read more

I have been in town for 3 days and ate at Jake's everyday. I had the Chickpea Burger and Jake Fries two days. Very good with a dill sauce. The Jake Fries are awesome. Absolutely outstanding food. They always have a different type of hash option on the menu. The most recent time I went I had the Shepherd's pie hash, which was amazing; and my partner had the buffalo chicken hash, which he said was terrific as well. The staff was polite, attentive and knowledgeable of the menu. They also have dividers up between all the tables and I saw them sanitize the entire table area after a party got up. The prices are definitely on the steep side for breakfast, 70 dollars for 2 breakfasts and 2 sides of hash pretip and no alcohol. However, it is Northampton, to be expected. Also, as I stated in other reviews, I believe you get what you pay for. If you want something outstanding that you probably can't make at home (or if you can it would take hours to do) you won't be disappointed by the quality of the food they present. read more

Very good pub-style food, a cut above in quality. Nicely done burger, correctly made to order, well-prepared. Delicious kale salad with chickpeas and wallnuts, which was quite large, fresh and tasty, and a curry tomato bisque, which was delicious. Service was a little bit slow but friendly. This place definitely knows how to do brunch. The wait was kind of long (about half an hour) but it was quickly forgotten about as soon as we were seated. The menu had a pretty big selection to choose from and can be a little overwhelming especially for a slow person like me...haha. Being in the mood for a burger and a huge fan of pork belly, I definitely had to give the pork belly burger a try. My girlfriend ordered the pork belly benedict and wow! Both dishes were perfectly made and well presented. I finished my burger in the span of a few minutes and my girlfriend is usually the faster eater! I went to Jake's for the first time with my boyfriend for brunch. The wait was about 40 minutes at 11:30 am on a sunday. But, the staff was efficient as possible to seating customers down which I appreciated. Now the food... HOLY MOLY it was not what I expected. I got the eggs in purgatory and my boyfriend got the house hash. We also split a french toast from listening to all the recommendations on yelp. From the sound of what was in both of our savory dishes I was worried they would be very heavy and salty like many restaurants I have been to. But WOW the eggs in purgatory had the perfect bite and felt so refreshing with the salad that was part of the dish. The house hash of the day was chicken pesto flavored and had such a unique flavor that still tasted amazing. The french toast was addicting and so fluffy and soft. I regret not ordering enough french toast. Portion-wise, I felt that the servings were kind of small when I first looked at it. But by the time I was almost done with my dish i was getting so full. The portion size of these dishes felt so perfect for someone that was starving like me. To be honest, we ate everything pretty quickly that it was the first time I felt kind of sad that the eating journey ended but still very satisfied. Setting-wise, the restaurant was kind of small but still had homey vibes and great lighting for pictures from the sunlight. My first visit to Jake's. After reading all of the great reviews I was excited to visit and try the grits. The jalapeño cheddar grits with bacon. Very savory and rich. I had them topped with 2 perfectly executed poached eggs. I'm not sure if the bread is made on the premises but it was a very high quality crusty bread. I wasn't a huge fan of their coffee blend but staff was constantly circling refilling our cups. Our server was very polite and attentive without being intrusive. She also offered us homemade jelly which was very tart but good. The interior is a little dark but very unique and inviting. They seem to specialize in hash which I'd like to return to try. Once again, Yelp led me to a great place for brunch. It is possible to share a couple of small dishes and leave both stuffed and happy. The potatoes in a skillet are amazing. It starts at just $3.50. then, you add I ingredients. We did spinach, mushrooms, onions and bacon. It was incredibly filling. My wife and I split the potatoes and split a hamburger. The whole thing was less than $20. Service was friendly. But the line to get in is long. You won't be disappointed. read more

My companions three of them all liked their chow as well and neither of them have been here before. Thankfully as I was the one who had the responsibility of picking out place to meet. 2 stars because Jake's is no longer accessible to the good people of Western MA. Prices are outrageously high. I have been going to Jake's for 20 years, from back when they were a cheap greasy townie breakfast spot, up until the pandemic. The prices are totally ridiculous now, and the food is skimpier. Last time I went I literally spent 20 dollars on pancakes and homefries. It would have been 26 or 27 with a meat. They no longer include a side with any of their sandwiches. Want fries with your burger? 20 bucks after tip. 2 stars because Jake's has chosen to be at the forefront of the gentrification of western MA. Shutting out all customers but the lawyers, elders, New Yorkers and Connecticutians of the world. At least have a breakfast special that includes pancakes, homefries and a meat. The price changes shut out any semblance of local youth that used to frequent this establishment. Peace. read more

I walked in this restaurant and I was so impressed by the excellent customer service and their hospitality of the staff. The restaurant has a high level of cleanliness from the entrance to the dining area to the restrooms. Everyone wears a mask and they have hand sanitizer available at the entrance. This place does brunch RIGHT. Kind of a long wait, but that's a consequence of eating at a place as popular as Jake's -- especially for Sunday Brunch. My girlfriend and I waited about 30 minutes, and when we got our meals, we were very impressed with their food. My recommendation is to get the House Hash. It varies day to day and this day, we had a Pesto Chicken Hash. It was not your typical chopped up potatoes fried over a skillet; it actually had substance to it and is able to stand alone as an entreé. Lastly, it is of the utmost importance that everyone in this place gets the french toast. It is one of the best I've ever had. All in all, great experience. 5 out of 5 from me. read more

Friggin awesome. Go early - it gets pretty busy by 9/9:30am. One of the best breakfasts that I've had in a while. Super fresh scrambled eggs that were prepared with bacon, sautéed onion and roasted mushrooms (yes - all mixed together...and it wasn't an omelette)...with a side of insanely good home fries (just the right amount of seasoning) and perfect rye toast. All topped off with a nice, strong cup of coffee. Uber friendly wait staff - food came out fast. Tons of great choices on the menu (huevos rancheros, pancakes, french toast....etc). I ordered the Grits ($9) which was grits with bacon, jalapeño, and cheddar served with two eggs (I got scrambled) and toast. I also ordered a buttermilk biscuit ($1.50), which was incredible. Honestly everything was delicious and very filling. My friend got the El Paso Ranchero ($9.75) which was jalapeño corn bread with retried black beans, Monterey Jack cheese, two eggs (she got scrambled), pico de gallo, and sour cream. She got avocado on it as well. If you're in Northampton and looking for a bite, I'd highly recommend Jake's. Very affordable and amazing quality food (tasted like homemade). We were staying at the Hotel Northampton for a wedding and asked around for a good place to have breakfast. The consensus was pretty much Sylvester's or Jake's but we were told good luck with finding a table as both are usually packed. Undeterred we decided to check out Jake's since it was across the street and had great Yelp reviews. Luckily we were able to score a table for 4 Saturday morning without any wait! I am so glad we stopped here as it absolutely hit the spot. They have so many breakfast options that looked amazing and it was extremely hard to choose. In addition they have a board with the hash of the day which made deciding even harder. After talking to the waitress I went with the shrimp & grits. It was definitely as good as advertised. My iced latte was also strong and amazing. Given the amazing food and friendly service I can see why this place is so popular. The next morning on Sunday we passed by and there was a big crowd of people waiting for a table. I am glad we got lucky the day before. If you are in the area definitely stop by Jake's and it is worth the wait if there is a line. read more

The food was delicious! Will definitely be back the next time we drive through the area. The wait was super short for Sunday around 10:30. I was a bit worried, seeing some recent poor reviews regarding wait time and service. Our service was excellent. We felt well taken care of and everything arrived quickly. We had the eggs in purgatory, pork belly Benny and hazelnut boozy coffee. Coffee was delicious with just the right amount of alcohol, the sauce on the eggs in purgatory was so good, and the pork belly was incredible and I loved the whole cloves of roasted garlic. Just get their signature dish, Pork Belly Benedict. Buddy and I had errands to run in Northampton and came in on a weekday in that strange in-between time of breakfast and lunch. Since they close at 2pm, they serve breakfast all "day" and lunch begins at 11 am. They literally have a wall listing all their different types of hashes and all the plates I saw go by looked excellent. I stuck to the pork belly Benedict and was full for the rest of the day. This is my favorite breakfast/lunch spot in the area. The food is consistently fresh and delicious, with plentiful helpings and interesting sides for substituting. I tend to get savory food (the downtown scramble is my favorite!), but the sweet foods like pancakes are good, too. The waitresses are always kind and helpful, pushing together tables and bringing over bottles of water when they can. I've been here a handful of times, and each time I want to come back sooner. First off, as a South American coffee enthusiast I'm usually not the biggest fan of diner coffee because it's generally watered down and weak for my taste... however, when I took that first sip at Jake's - it was love at first sight! The coffee was strong, and the roast was superb! So once the café was off to a good start, I ordered the "Bagel and Lox." The waitress had me sold when she said the salmon is marinated in a beet broth! The result is a direct quote from myself after taking the initial bite "it's like fresh sushi on a bagel!" Yes I said that, no I'm not proud haha I didn't know what else to compare it to other than the perfect mix of salmon, cream cheese with the freshness of cucumbers and tomatoes on an everything bagel. To... die... for! My wife made her own omelet (basic) and had the biscuits with gravy (also absolutely delicious).
