Food and service was great. Arrived with time left on their HH and ordered margaritas.

It pains me to say this, but ever since the change in ownership - this place has sunk like a lead balloon I was toying with giving them only a single star, but am giving them 2 because the servers there are incredible and none of this is their fault. Nope the trouble it all comes down from the top. The food has gotten bland and the portions have gotten ridiculously small. How small? Here are some examples - I used to order the chile rellenos: * Old owners - 2 stuffed chile peppers served with rice. * New owners - 1 stuffed chile pepper served with rice for about 3 dollars more. I used to order tamales: * Old owners - 3 tamales * New owners - 2 tamales for two dollars more. As a bonus kick in the pants - I was charged $5 for a side of extra queso fresco. I had to order this because of the minimal amount they now put on it. I was literally in shock. I could see 2 bucks, even 3, hell 4 is pushing it, but 5 dollars? Nope. The final straw came for me when I order 3 beef tacos and they came on tortillas that were insanely small. I'm talking 2 bites and gone. I asked the server, did they change tortilla styles, and she honestly didn't know. Also they're now 3 bucks more than they used for to be. The worst thing a place can do is charge more money for less food that by comparison is substandard to how it used to be. On top of that their kitchen's sheer inability to get even the simplest requests right, coupled with finding actual steel wool fragments in my taco meat the last time I ordered... sigh. I'm at a loss. Thankfully the previous owners opened up a New Mexican restaurant only 5 more minutes in driving distance from me and it was like going home again. Sorry Jalapeños, but we are never coming back again. read more

Sadly this isn't going to be a great review. Excluding our service everything here has become awful. The on tap beers are just eh. They got rid of Stacy's mom so I went with miller lites which were on the warm side and 7 bucks a pint which is outrageous. 7 dollars for a warm miller lite is insane. My pork chops were tiny but may have been larger if they weren't cooked into dry pucks with a bone. The cold hard rice they were served with did not make them better. Our chips were cold and on the stale side. I used to get the habanero salsa with them but now they charge 4 bucks for about 2 ounces. We ordered our child chicken fingers which were absolutely disgusting I feel bad for making him eat them after trying one. It was bad enough they were unseasoned and dry but some how sorta soggy and tasting like fryer oil. He didn't eat any of the cold dry French fries and after trying one I don't blame him. My wife's opinion of her food was eh it was just what ever. Annoying us at the table was fruit flys and the menus were dirty. Unfortunately my little guy had to use the men's room and it was really disgusting stinky and loaded with flys. We opted to skip dessert. This was our favorite Mexican place and sadly we won't be back. Everything on the menu went up in price by a lot and even more if you're paying with a credit/debit card. The quality is definitely not here for the price. Also no longer on the menu is single tacos. When we arrived at dinner time it was fairly empty and it always used to be packed. Now we know why. What a major disappointment. Totally bummed and also not happy with the price of dinner. If you read my other reviews I have no problem with paying extra for great quality food but this was just over priced over cook Luke warn garbage. I actually feel like I was ripped off the food was so bad. On the bright side we had good service I would actually only give a railing of 1/2 a star but it's not an option. read more

Festive atmosphere, friendly service offering Americanized and authentic Mexican food. The prices are reasonable and the staff is friendly.

The sit-down meals have been pretty good, but the take-out tocos missed the mark on this visit. I went with the Mexican style asada tacos (3) because i like cilantro. Taco Tuesday was made for places like this! I expected Jalapenos to be BYOB (based on a Yelp menu photo) so I was thrilled to learn that they make a mean margarita. Lots of generic as well as fruity varieties (savory ones too)! The outdoor seating was great...breezy and festive. The homemade chips were divine. They looked like they'd be a little tough since there was a thickness to them, but they were surprisingly light and airy. These chips blow away anything you'll get out of a bag. The guacamole is not made table-side, but it's seemed freshly made. Good chunk-to-smoothness ratio. Our friend and I had the Chicken Enchiladas with mole sauce and my husband had the Spicy Chicken Ceasar Salad. The portions were plentiful and the spice was spot-on. Their mole sauce had a hint of sweetness to it. It added a nice balance. This place appears to be a neighborhood favorite. Those giant margaritas will have us coming back for more! read more

Stopped in last night for dinner. This was my second time here. The parking lot is small. The restaurant is spacious. The staff were nice and attentive. We were immediately seated. They gave us table chips and salsa which were tasty. I ordered the pork chops and rice w/ black beans. I enjoyed it. My daughter ordered the beef fajitas and overall she liked it but she said the rice tasted "fake". My husband ordered 5 tacos: he said the birria taco was dry, pork was ok but the shrimp tacos were flavorful. Overall this is a decent place to stop in if you want Mexican food. read more

I'm a little torn writing this review... First off, our waitress was PHENOMENAL. She was fun, super friendly, and attentive. Zero complaints there. Now the food... I ordered a carnitas chimichanga which came with black beans and rice. The chimichanga was great and the carnitas were excellent and cooked perfectly. We also got the nachos with carnitas which were good, but they don't put enough cheese. The beans were just okay, but the rice was awful. I don't understand why Mexican restaurants can never get the rice right. I'm assuming they must use a pre-made boxed rice because they all taste the same!! Anyway, the chips and salsa were good. However, we got the fried ice cream for dessert and the flavor was good, but the fried part of it tasted stale which really ruined the whole thing. I used to live 5 mins from this place and ordered from them at least twice. Finally stopped in for dinner with some friends and had a great experience. This is a pretty big place with an open dining area, large bar and private rooms. The restaurant is not super well lit - the opposite of my experience at most other Mexican restaurants but the food was good and the service on point. They also had a woman singing and dancing which was fun. I had the wet chicken burrito which came covered in a really tasty mole sauce. I don't normally eat mole but this was great - sweet but not overpowering. The burrito was huge. I ate half of it and saved the rest. In the past, I've had their tacos and quesadilla - both are good. Review during the Pandemic: This place gets rave reviews and the Collingswood area peeps love it, so it came highly recommended. We came as dining outside first started up fairly recently. The patio is set up facing a fairly busy road, so I wasn't crazy about the cars whizzing by and the loud music. The food was OK. The tortilla chips tasted a bit stale to me - the salsa was something I really enjoyed. I enjoyed the burrito with carnitas, but it could have used a bit more flavor. The salad that came with it didn't come with any dressing that I could tell. The server was very nice and did a great job. Walked in on a Saturday night. It wasn't too busy as one would expect but the service was AWFUL. Took someone 15 minutes to greet us and another 20 minutes for 2 margaritas and a pitcher of water. When the water came, all 3 of us spit it out. I think they used a pitcher that they mix cleaning chemicals with because it tasted like bleach. Our queso arrived ice cold and without chips (that was a first lol) and then our meals arrived 20 seconds after the appetizer. I wouldn't go back! I've loved Jalapeños for years. Exactly why I selected this restaurant to celebrate a new job opportunity with my family. Our particularly phenomenal service tonight was my reminder to finally give credit where it's due!! Our server, Yary, was very busy when we arrived and STILL delivered the best service. She took our drinks, appetizers, and entree orders without writing anything down and nailed it!! On top of the accuracy she made us feel so welcome and like family. So genuine. I feel like I went to a different restaurant than all the recent reviews. First, I acknowledge that this review is during the Covid pandemic with outdoor dining available only. The outdoor seating is in the front patio, just a few feet away from busy Rt. 30. The music playing on the speakers was loud. Between the very busy traffic noise and people struggling to speak over the music, the noise level was high. A few minutes after being seated, a small dish of salsa and a bowl of chips arrived. Chips were not fresh and the salsa was in a small bowl. I had the nachos with carnitas which I felt were bland. Only the guacamole had some flavor with specks of cilantro and even the jalapeños were flavorless. Overall, I felt it missed the mark of the usual bright flavors I associate with Mexican food. On the other hand, my daughter asked if she could order the street tacos with chicken which they did make for her and she ate it all. Our young waiter was attentive. Overall, I might return for happy hour and a different appetizer only. I'm not sure I would return for a full meal. read more

We had been to their older location a few times and while we enjoyed it we never really craved it. Once we tried their much bigger location we became big fans. The tacos are tremendous and are the best in the immediate area. The chicken chimichanga might actually be better the next day than fresh. The staff is always very nice and my gf says the margaritas are muy buen. The plus of the new location is its about twice the size of the original location (at least) but the downfall is its basically an old dance hall with a bar and tables with no windows. The ambiance was great when you walk in a feeling of Mexico, but the food didn't match up. We ordered asada tacos and steak quesadillas. The steak was dry and they only had one salsa, and no pico!! Had some Mexican food delivered to work. Was a bit skeptical, but it was delicious. Portions are a good size. Food got here quick when we ordered it via phone. Prices were decent nothing over priced. I got the al pastor Mexican taco and the camarones specialty tacos. The Mexican taco comes as single ones for $3. The specialty tacos come as 3 for $10. Everything was good, cooked well. Sauce could be spicier but maybe they didn't give the spiciest sauce. Will have to ask next time. Things were all prepackaged well. Enjoyed the lunch, will try again in the future. First time coming to the new location and I was quite impressed! First off, it's HUGE inside! Second... there's a nice ass bar inside now and can have all the drinks you want! Can you say MARGARITAS?!! And they were well priced and big compared to lots of other places! Food You get free chips n salsa for the table.. always a plus while you're waiting for drinks and food and other people in your party to get there. Chips come out nice and warm... only wish they had an option for spicy salsa.. but they have hot sauce on the table, so that's alright. their guacamole is fresh and really good.. I've always ordered that at their last location, and it surely doesn't disappoint. Came for Taco Tuesday's and they had some great taco deals in which you get 3 tacos for like $8! That's a steal and plus the size of their tacos were pretty decent! My parents shared the taco salad which was good, because portions were enough for 2 people. I had the enchiladas with mole sauce... YUM! Husband had the Bang bang shrimp tacos and he really liked them as well. They do have a dessert menu but we were to stuffed to order any. But we did enjoy their classic margaritas! Next time! I'm on the fence about this place and I want to try more to get a better opinion. I woke up on Saturday morning and had a craving for Queso Fundido. I was on a mission to find some and this restaurant popped up. Now, my problem was I had some within the past couple months that was incredible. But that restaurant is up in Northeast Philly and really didn't want to drive 45 minutes for this delicious dip. I was putting pressure on Jalapenos to produce a similar dip and they did not. The chips were great. The dip itself was overly greasy and had one note. I wanted to make sure I had something healthier to go along with my chips and queso fundido and decided to go with the Fiesta House salad. It was fine, but there certainly no fiesta. Contrary to the description for that salad, there was just 1 green used, romaine, not mixed. Corn relish? Was that the black beans tossed in to make a 'corn relish'? The Mexican cheese looked more like shredded cheddar. The dressing I believe was a Chipotle ranch. But it was green and wasn't fantastic. I know it was my fault going in with the dreams of having the queso fundido that I previously had, but I know what I like and I know what's good. Maybe I should try a burrito next time. read more

I'm a local resident and i have been go to this restaurant for 2 yrs now - every Tuesday- for Tacos - 6 of them to be exact and they provide 2 salsa for six taco - every time I asked for a couple more salsas because the container only has enough for one taco - these things are small ( shot glass size ) - today i went in and they are charging me extra money for 2 more . can anyone tell me why this is the case - are we charging for ketchup next? I usually always get the hot and honey wings, even told people they're better than PJs wings. Then today happened. The orange colored honey hot sauce was replaced with whatever this hot garbage is, or the sauce is on them but totally burnt rendering the flavor unbearable. Other experiences: once had a taco and thought it was the best taco ever. Solid, basic, and excellent Mexican food. If consistency is the mark of a professional kitchen then Jalapeños is top of the class. The wet burrito is absolutely killer - the mole sauce is among the best I've ever tasted. Enchiladas and tacos are also excellent. My favorite is having a cold beer at the bar while I wait for my takeout. Note that 5 stars is reserved for the ultimate and truly exceptional, so as much as I want to give too marks here that's not how my scale works. 4 stars to me means EXCELLENT and 5 means SO SUBLIME and RARE that it's worth getting on a plane just to try. Panicked when I wasn't asked hard or soft shell when I ordered but was assured they would be served Mexican style. Phew! Good stuff. Normal test of goodness, lengua wasn't overcooked: tender and tasty. Server says they have goat tacos on weekends. Yum, yum. Stopped by Jalepenos after stopping at Tonewood brewery for a growler. Excellent guacamole to start with handmade chips. That was followed by a steak fajita burrito for me and 2 custom tacos for my wife. All were served promptly by a friendly young lady. We also also a platter to go which was brought out hot as we were leaving. My judging of a restaurant is would I return . And my answer is a definite yes. read more
