Once seated, instead of chips and salsa, we were brought crispy corn tortillas with a small bowl of refried beans. Different spin, with delicious results. Good portion size. 8.5/10 Tijuana Salad ($14.50) is perfect for those lighter lunches. Saw this place coming back from an early morning hike and thought the might have a breakfast burrito. They sure did--I got it with al pastor and a coffee, and sat in the warm sunshine at a table out front munching their chips with nicely spicy bean dip while they made the burrito. Burrito was hot and delicious, lots of flavor, not at all dry, and ingredients well-distributed. I got to practice a little Spanish with the staff, who were incredibly attentive and friendly. Great food, Quesabirria tacos are fantastic, also enjoyed a Chile Reaneo. The ranchera sauce is very good. They started us off with a complimentary basket of fresh tostadas and great bean dip. Nicauthentic Mexican food hidden away in PV. The restaurant is small and parking can be tricky. They have music playing which is usually at a great sound level (not too loud). Great lunch spot if you're in the area hiking. The service is always very friendly and prompt. I've gotten takeout several times and I appreciate that they always check the bag before handing it to me (preventing me from leaving missing items). The shrimp tacos are GREAT! The chipotle sauce is so good, but can be a bit spicy specially for little ones so I always get it on the side. The kids taco meal is worth the money, plenty of rice and beans. And the torta with everything is but it's a lot so maybe share it because it doesn't hold over well as left overs (can get really messy and fall apart if you reheat it). read more

Great little taqueria next to the firehouse in Portola Valley. Very friendly service and excellent food. I had the quesabirria. The meat was tender and lean. Came wrapped in a soft corn tortilla on the inside and crispy corn tortillas on the outside. They also served fried corn tortillas and bean dip with the meal. How did we get so lucky? This is phenomenal and 10 min walk from my house in Portola valley. I love this place. First, the free chips come with bean dips. How cool is that! The meat was flavorless, the burritos felt half full, and many of my group's requests weren't honored. $15 for a midsize burrito is already a little pricey, and at that point you would expect it to be good. When they first opened, the meat portions were good. I decided to give it some time and sure enough things changed. They started to put a lot of lettuce and condiments in exchange of meat in their burritos which is a very classic and not to mention bold move when it's in a town with just one other taqueria. If it's going to want to keep a steady flow of locals, and ultimately stay profitable it is going to have to try harder. A legit Mexi spot in the heart of Portola Valley. Flavorful, authentic, potentially heartburn-inducing deliciousness. It's not what I expected in PV but so glad to have it here. Meal came with complimentary chips/refried bean dip and there's a small salsa bar available. It's barebones with a few tables/chairs inside and outside with ample parking. I notice that cyclists have discovered this little gem and I can see this as a nice location for a rest stop, grab a quick bite, use the restroom and then go on your way. I came here once to get a snack for my ride home from work and got charged $12 for a small bag of chips and 1/4 cup of guacamole. The chips were okay and the guacamole was salty. I haven't tried their meal items but I don't think I will. read more

Disappointed in my takeout order today. Birria plate had a lot of fatty meat. It would be great if they took the time to separate the meat from the fat before putting it in the container. The meat itself was tender and juicy. Got a small $8.00 side of guacamole that was delicious but overpriced for what you get. My Birria plate was supposed to come with salad but it was missing. Delicious Mexican food comes to the heart of Portola Valley. Located at the intersection of Portola Rd and Alpine Rd, in what was the PV Deli, it was so good, we came back two days in a row. Burrito with marinated pork is a winner. read more

We live in the neighborhood, and simply love this place. Service, food, family atmosphere is great. Really a great experience, and hope that they become a permanent part of the community.
