I'd give them zero stars if I could. So I literally just placed an order with UberEats. I waited an hour just for my delivery person to call me and say that the workers said they don't see my order. I have ordered food from this place before and it was not bad. This time it was much different. I ordered the escoveitched fish through Uber Eats and when the foood arrived it had way too much gravy poured over the rice and fish. When I tasted the food it was way too salty and spicy. I grew eating and making escoveitched fish and it tasted nothing like what I am used to. It tasted as if too much season all was used. This meal was not worth the $23 that was spent. I had to wash some of the salt and seasoning off to even eat it. I spent the money and did not want to throw the food away. I bought a medium sized order of the oxtail platter, a beef pattie, plaintain, and sweet potato cake. For my sides I ordered mac and cheese along with rice and peas. The oxtail was delectable. It was seasoned perfectly and there was minimal gristle. The mac and cheese wasn't that great but it wasn't bad either. Probably will skip that for next time. Lastly, the cake was spectacular. I ordered the Croaker Fish Entree. The presentation looked good. I immediately try some of the fish. The 1st piece was ok. As I begin to get a little bit more. I realized there is so much SALT on this fish that it would give you high blood pressure. I try my sides. The rice is crunchy not cooked thoroughly. They offer your typical jamaican dishes and they come in three different portion sizes. I love the food at Jam Doung. I live in Arlington but typically stop here to grab takeout after getting my hair braided nearby. I typically get their oxtails or curried goat with cabbage and Mac n cheese or rice & peas. Also can't forget their yummy coco bread. They seem to have a pretty extensive menu and I'd like to try some of their seafood dishes if I can ever pry myself away from the oxtails & goat. I also love that their meals come in small, medium, and large sizes so u can get just the right size for your budget and appetite. They also have different specials that are very inexpensive. As far as drinks, like most Caribbean restaurants they have a nice variety of tropical sodas and juices from which to choose. I've yet to try anything here that I haven't liked. The customer service at this establishment is terrible. The spot is no frills. Very small. Hot. Crowded. The person at the register has a horrible attitude. The cooks are a little nicer. The restaurant does accept credit card payments with a minimum sale of $10 and they have an ATM inside. The food is okay. Not the best Jamaican food and not the worst. For a quick stop this place is fine. I expected more from this spot. I did like being able to order a combo of the jerk chicken and oxtails. The prices are reasonable and they have all the staple Jamaican foods. I wouldn't recommend this place to others unless you were in the area and wanted a quick fix. I bought a small plate of oxtail and jerk wings a week ago from this restaurant. I came to the restaurant around 5pm. The wings were very dry and tasted old. As if they were sitting for hours and reheated up with added jerk sauce. The taste of wings were alright, but it could've been better if it was served to me FRESH! on another note, my small plate of oxtail received 3 mini pieces of oxtails. As well, during eating my food I discovered a black/grey piece of hair throughout my rice! Very disgusted! I contacted the restaurant and no one hasn't gotten back with me to resolve this issue. Jam Doung is, in my estimation, a definitive experience if you're in the mood for Jamaican cuisine. What strikes me as different from some of the spots that you'll encounter as you might in Flatbush, BK is that the staff is pleasant and the dining area is simple yet welcoming. I went about 30 mins before closing and saw that they had a lunch special brown stew chicken so I ordered that. That meal was so nasty and salty, rice was soggy, the chicken stew salty and the cabbage wasn't good either-so mushy with thickly cut carrots. I come here all the time. Just had it again today. The food is always fantastic. Flavorful and very authentic. However, as many others have stated, the service is not all that great. Sometimes the cashier is very nice and friendly, sometimes they barely speak. Depends on the day I guess. Since it's not a sit down restaurant, that doesn't effect me much. I just grab my food and go. The brown stewed chicken is my favorite and very affordable. The only thing I've had here that I didn't particularly like was the mac n cheese. So I got the jerk chicken sandwich which was quite good, and I definitely had chicken left over afterwards. This is kind of a do-it yourself sandwich where they give you the bread on the side, and absolutely nothing else goes on it. Still good. Now the Mac and cheese on the other hand... it was absolutely awful. Objectively a terrible tasting dish. I came at the end of the day so maybe it was just a bad old batch, but it was extremely sour and tasted like someone who knows nothing about Mac and cheese made it. Ok so I had been to this spot some time ago, and the food was exceptional back then. The only issue was parking. I was passing yesterday and was actually able to pull right up to a space and park. It had moved around the corner and was much larger. When I went in, I was greeted pleasantly by Mama, Grace, and Shazia, all professional, friendly and beautiful ladies. I ordered and then ended up ordering a meal for my husband and I to share. The food was absolutely delicious. I ordered 2 lunch specials, 2 beef patties, and 2 chicken patties. Woke up in a mood for island food, and usually the spots that are good are the ones that take a bit of traveling to get to. This was definitely one of those spots. With a menu written in chalk, and a bigger kitchen in the back than actual store front - you can tell food was given all the TLC and less of the riff raff. This is the type of place that has no seats and just wants to serve you and let you go about your day and those are the BEST places to dine at. I was introduced to Jam Doung about a year ago. For a while I didn't tell many people about it because I wanted to keep it my little secret. However, I recently decided to bring a few of my friends here to see if they would fall in love with it as much as I did. Well, they certainly did! Let's start this review by saying that this food is definitely the real deal. The restaurant is literally a hole in the wall. There is no room inside to sit, only standing room for placing orders. There is a kitchen located in the rear where all the magic happens. I believe the restaurant is owned by a woman and her husband, since I typically see them in every time I have been. There are also a couple of others that I have seen working too, but I think they may be family. Once you walk inside, you simply order your food at the counter. The food is decently priced ($6-13. Most entrees come with 1-2 sides and you can order plates in small, medium and large. I usually order the curry shrimp with cabbage and rice and peas. Obviously, I always order the large. It is definitely a healthy serving of food. I could probably split it up into two meals, but I usually eat it all in one sitting. I would also recommend the plantains and the patties. Overall, this is an authentic, straightforward and no frills dining experience. If you like good Jamaican food it is definitely the spot to go.
