When your family is Jamaican you are VERY picky on Jamaican food from "Jamaican restaurants". Over the last few months I have tried a few Jamaican dishes from some EXTREMELY OVERRATED spots....BUT this place almost tastes like grandma made it lol.....They came to my apartment complex for a Spring "Festival" yesterday so I decided to try them. I had the half and half combo where I got jerk wings, oxtail and rice and peas and cabbage. I also ordered a beef pattie and coco bread with a Pineapple ginger drink. EVERYTHING was good and she gave me ALOT of food. The jerk is a little spicy (perfect), oxtail a little small but the large portion made up for it. Cabbage and rice was good and the patttie was DEFINITELY authentic...the best I had in a long while. Now I have to go to the brick and mortar or see where the truck will be next lol The lady took my order and was very polite. The guy who took payment and handed me my bag was equally polite. Disappointingly poor customer service. Was excited to try their food at the Caribbean Heritage Month event in Columbia. Their menu board looked appealing. Waited in line to order for quite a long time. During that time, witnessed one of the food truck staff be impolite to a potential customer. When they finally got around to taking our order, they were out of what we wanted. We politely suggested to the woman working at the window that it would be good if they indicated on their menu board what was no longer available. Her response was"I've been busy". Needless to say, we opted to patronize a more customer service oriented establishment. read more

Recently grabbed a few items from here at a food truck festival. Overall solid! Fried plantains were done just right - good caramelization on the outside. I also grabbed a bread pudding square. It was sweet, but not too sweet, with a custardy filling. Would get either of these items again. I look forward to trying some of the mains next time they come around. The food truck came to my neighborhood. I ordered jerk chicken (that comes with rice & peas), a jerk chicken patty, plantains, and coco bread. When I tell you I went home, started eating and then turned back around to get more. Chicken was seasoned well and grilled perfectly. The chicken patty was seasoned and stuffed perfectly. Portion sizes were fantastic. Plantains were not too sweet and cooked perfectly. I had to go back and get more because I was not sharing with my husband. He could have his own plate. It's been awhile since I had Jamaican food, so while on vacation in DC, I asked Yelp for suggestions. This place has a food truck that goes to different places daily, so I followed them on Twitter to find out where they'd be (Verizon Center in Chinatown). I could small the food from around the corner, so you know it's good! I ordered the jerk chicken which comes with rice, cabbage, and plantains. I rushed home and dug right in! The chicken was perfectly spiced and hit the spot. I'm usually not a cabbage person, but that was good too! And the fried plantains? Yum! I also got a Jamaican beef Patty to eat the following day, and it did not disappoint. They take cash and cards with a $10 minimum purchase. I'll make sure to come here next time I'm in DC! read more

This is one of my favorite food trucks in all of DC. I recommend the jerk wings and the oxtail. Both are super flavorable -- the jerk wings have some kick to them but are seasoned perfectly, while the oxtail is so tender that it just falls off of the bone. I've seen this place around but never gave them a try until recently. I am very impressed and will be going back the next time I see them nearby! I got the jerk chicken with rice, vegetables and a small piece of corn. Every part of the platter was delicious. They gave me a ton of food. It was so much food that when I picked it up, before I even opened the lid, I said to my friend "I won't be able to finish this." I always lick my plate clean so for me to say that is a big deal. Fortunately they succeed not just in quantity but in taste. The chicken had a dry jerk seasoning which, according to my Jamaican friend, is the authentic way to make jerk chicken. If you can't handle spice you may want to try another one of their offerings. The chicken wasn't insanely hot but it did have an initial kick and had a slow burn that lingered. This truck has OUTSTANDING food. I walked by one day and asked if I could try the oxtails, since my family is German and the only oxtails I've had have been soup (and the soup was terrible). They let me try theirs...and these oxtails are flavorful, savory, rich, and delicious!!! The butter beans they come with and the dumplings and plaintains are perfect together. I've been hooked ever since. Then today, they were out of oxtails AND curry goat. (Get there early.) So I tried the brown stew chicken. Y'all. Out of this world and perfect for the dreary day. I love Jamaican beef patty and when I heard there was a food truck that offered it, I had to go check it out. When I arrived at the truck, there was already a line but the service was going pretty fast. When it came time for me to order, I asked for a beef patty, coco bread, and a rum cake. I would've ordered a main entree but wasn't very hungry. My food was ready as soon as I ordered which was great. Back at my office, I devoured the beef patty. It was very tasty, not really spicy, and the crust was perfectly flakey. My coco bread wasn't as sweet as other places I've had em, tasted just like normal hotdog/burger bread but slightly sweeter. I didn't eat the rum cake till I got home which might've been a mistake cause the rum definitely tasted super strong as I was eating it. I don't know if waiting to eat later made the flavor stronger but if it did, I made a huge mistake. Otherwise, I'm sure I would've liked it more. read more

What a Jerk! This is probably my favorite food truck. They have very good Jamaican food. I usually get jerk chicken, but I've also had the curry chicken, curry goat, and jerk chicken wings. The spice is excellent. The jerk flavor is just right and gets my nose running about mid-way through. (I have a very runny nose, if you haven't noticed). The plantains are on point, too. I got a meal from their food truck last night and it was so good. We got the goat curry, beef patty, and rum cake. It was fast, delicious, and I will be tracking them down to try more of their food! The goat curry was enough for two and comes with rice, plantains, and a veggie mix. It was a little gamey (in a great way), tender, and a great break from our usual cuisine. I couldn't decide whether to get curry goat or the jerk wings, soooooo I got both! They came with rice and peas, vegetables, and a choice of corn on the cob or fried plantains. Wow, talk about fantastic flavors. Had the Curry Goat and it exceeded my expectations, especially the portion size. Albeit, I only savored this single item on their menu, I must say that for $11, the term "Bang for your buck" is an understatement. The goat was served with rice, which was mixed when served. I didn't mind this as opposed to having the rice separate as it makes it an easier serving for a quicker lunch. For the entree, you get to choose a side of fried plantain or a corn on the cob and I chose the plantain- something sweet to offset the spice and savory of the curry. The entree also came with a small salad, which wasn't memorable, but who cares about that as long as it was crisp and fresh, which it was. The curry was well seasoned with just the right amount of spice and the key was the balance of each component. The mix between turmeric, cumin, coriander, ginger, cloves, etc. was on-point. The amount of heat from whatever pepper they used was just right to appeal to the masses. It won't knock your underwear off, but it's no sleeper either. Usually, curry goat is pretty greasy and fatty, but not this one, which was nice. It's no way a lean meal, but the oils are significantly lower than past ones I've had. The goat itself was very tender and there was a very generous amount of it without too many bones. The rice was nicely cooked and wasn't mushy. Lastly, I want to end this review with a comment about its portion size. It can serve two people. I bought this during my lunch break but saved it to share with my wife for dinner... and damn, am I glad I did. There would of been zero chance of me staying awake at work after eating this beast of a meal. *Footnote: I reheated this entree in a pan at home and it was still terrific.
