Dr. Bredenkamp is THE BEST. I have 3 kids and have taken ALL of them to him since they were babies. Two of them are in college now and one will be heading off to college in a year. My eldest had some issues as a baby and we were referred to Dr. Bredenkamp by our neurologist who claimed "he is a genius" - he was right. If you have to wait for an appointment, if you don't like the office staff or his bedside manner, it doesn't matter. I don't need a doctor that's nice, I want a doctor that knows medicine and this doctor knows his stuff. He's operated on two of my kids and he is AMAZING (adenoids, thyroid cyst). Dr. James Bredenkamp was extremely informative in regards to COVID 19. He explained the utmost importance of being vaccinated for the flu vaccine which my husband and I immediately adhere too. His office environment was reassuring in their adhering to office COVID protocol. He sadly explained why Drs are seeing an uptick of cancer cases due to the fear of many putting off necessary office visits and the failing of getting tested. I would highly recommend him as I myself was highly anxious just stepping foot into a medical office environment but walked out of his office feeling greatly relief emotionally and medically. First let me start with the fact that I have only posted a Yelp review 1 time in my life and that was about 10 years ago, but I felt this is important enough to encourage people facing lip cancer or any form of Head & Neck Cancer. Dr. Bredenkamp is AMAZING!! He literally read me like a book based on my state of being with lip cancer. After visiting another surgeon a good friend and doctor pleaded with me to meet with Dr. Bredenkamp prior to moving forward. Thank God I listened. I send my sincere appreciation and gratitude to Dr. Bredenkamp for many reasons, but to name a few I would say: 1) He not only knew my since of trepidation, but he was able to put up with my nervous humor and at one point played right along, giving me a since of piece that he understood my feelings 2) His honest approach in his dealings with the surgery I was about to go through, and 3) His dedication to his chosen path in life because he is AMAZING!!! I personally believe Dr. Bredenkamp "undersold" me during our 1st appointment and absolutely "over-delivered" because I'm in shock how close my appearance is to what I looked like prior to surgery. In fact, only 8 days after surgery I had people stating that they didn't even notice a difference in my appearance. Also, based on what my other potential surgeon said and pictures I saw, it is a day and night difference! All this to say that, while every operation is different, Dr. Bredenkamp is a great man & surgeon who will walk you through the process in an appropriate manner so you know what to expect. Honest, straightforward and trustworthy with the ability to understand where a patients mind is even if it's swirling with negative thoughts! One last thought is that I think Dr. B should consider changing his name from Breden"kamp" to Breden"CHAMP" because he is truly a Champion at his art!! He is regarded as one of the best surgeons in the area. I had a good result. Scar does not look bad at all. My voice sounds good and I look healthy. Only drawback- his staff could be better coordinated, so be patient. In order to schedule surgery, you must contact a nurse he likes to use, Allen Covey, and pay $250. I have the $, so no big deal, but much phone tag. Bredenkamp's office should just do this for the patient and not put that extra hurdle on a sick person. Also, prior to surgery, there were issues with my medical clearance. It all worked out, but was stressful. So, that stuff aside, great surgeon - kind of intense - but with staff that is not completely customer service oriented. It's hard to find great doctors paired with efficient staff. However, he's the go to guy for thyroid surgery per my doctor friends and based on how I feel, I would have to agree. read more

However, if a good caring doctor , will not let a patient out of pocket for $2000. Was never informed the fine needle biopsy would be done by a outside doctor who is not in network with United PPO. read more

Dr. Bredenkamp almost killed my daughter years ago. She went in to have thyroid surgery. After surgery her throat was filling up with blood and she couldn't breath. He blamed it on her coughing but it is obvious he nicked her artery during surgery. The hospital contacted the doctor, he came in with street clothes and performed a tracheotomy, she ended up in ICU with a collapsed lung and septis. I would not recommend this doctor. read more

I had no problems, and no complications in my surgery BUT I felt as if the doctor could care less. As if all he wanted to do was get my surgery over and done with. I WASN'T looking for a doctor to be my best friend, I wasn't looking for a doctor's shoulder to cry on, I have no time for that and no need for that, BUT I would like a warm fuzzy feeling when visiting his office and right before I was getting ready to go into surgery. I was scared to death before surgery and he showed no sign of comfort. This is the not the doctor for you if that's what you're looking for. If you're ok with a VERY impersonal doctor who seems as though all he wants to do is get you in and out of surgery, then you found the right one. I'm not writing this review because I got in a fight with him, I'm just writing this because I "feel" for anyone who has to go through what I went thought in this surgery. After the surgery, the doctor didn't call nor did anyone else in his office to see how I was doing. No one gave me any kind of paperwork in how I should feel after the surgery. I was told weeks before the surgery that I would HAVE to stay overnight after the surgery. I asked if there was any chance I could go home and Lilly his nurse/assistant said "no way" When I woke up from my surgery, I was told surgery went smooth and I could go home. I said "WHAT'. My husband was miles and miles away with his 95 year old father at the veterans hospital thinking he didn't have to pick me up, much to his surprise he got a call the surgery center saying "come pick up your wife" When seeing the doctor after surgery, it was like he was looking at his watch and couldn't wait to t get me out of his office, I was amazed. The doctor seems to me to be VERY depressed. Even my husband said the same thing when he went with me for our consultation before surgery. I'm not exaggerating, he acts as if it's nothing but a JOB that he hates. You will see when you have your fist visit what I mean. The guy has NO passion what so ever in what he does. I actually find it really sad. My neck looks wrinkled since surgery and the incision is so slanted. I had no complications at all, thank God. The doctor uses a nurse by the name of Allen Covey. He's not covered by your insurance so you pay upfront. If wanting an invoice or wanting to talk to his office, FORGET it! I am 58 yrs. old, and had my tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy 2 weeks ago. Dr. Bredenkamp did a wonderful job. Nothing but love for this Doc and his team. I had a somewhat involved surgery that included another surgeon and his team (who were equally wonderful). Everyone was fabulous including Dr. Bredenkamp who answered all of my questions. He was every bit of what I consider a strong partner for this process. HNAOC is a VERY busy practice, and you can definitely feel it while waiting in their lobby to be seen. Assistants are the glue that hold things together and sometimes that glue wears thin. The care I received from everyone including Mission Hospital (shout out to the Onco Nursing Staff - you rock!!) and additional treatment and aftercare was EXCELLENT. read more

I made a big mistake coming here! First off, I was referred here by Dr. Kobayashi under the impression that my consult with Dr. Bredenkamp would be free. The office never mentioned I had to pay anything. He took the liberty of scoping my nose without asking my permission or letting me know that it'll cost me. By the way, I had already been scoped by another ENT doctor and I told him so. Didn't matter. Just so you'll know if you don't bother to ask, the cost for his Office/Outpatient Visit New was $290. His Nasal Endoscopy Dx costs $385. A total of $650 for a no more than fifteen minute visit. I only saw him for five minutes. Even with the help of my insurance I ended up being charged $250. I tried to appeal but it fell on deaf ear. I'm glad I didn't get my surgery done here... Fair warning. read more

I've had two appointments with Dr. Bredenkamp, and both times he rushed through the appointments. He seemed completely disinterested in why I was there, just wanted to quickly write a prescription and get me out the door. During the first visit, he didn't even read through my chart and medical history. I've had chronic sinus problems over the last few months. I gave him a list of antibiotics I've tried but haven't helped. He ignored the list and tried to prescribe one of the antibiotics on that list. I had to remind him I'd already tried that. Then he forgot to give my chart to the front desk in order for them to call in a prescription to my pharmacy. I had to call the office the following morning to remind him I was still waiting on my prescription. During my second visit today, he wasn't interested in following up and figuring out the next step. He just did a CT scan and tried to shove me out the door. I had to interrupt his goodbye speech twice to get his attention and let him know I'm still having trouble. Then again he forgot to give my chart to the front desk so they could call in my new prescription to the pharmacy. I anticipated that and called this afternoon to remind them. It turns out that Dr. Bredenkamp didn't bother to check my list of medicines I'm allergic to or ask me about them. He prescribed an antibiotic I am allergic to, and now I have to wait for the pharmacist to sort it out with him. Dr. Bredenkamp is one of the worst doctors I've ever been to. The front desk staff and nurses are great and seem to be on top of their game. Unfortunately Dr. Bredenkamp only seems interested in quickly herding his patients through like cattle instead of taking time to listen and truly understand what's going on with the patient. I will be on the lookout for a more competent ENT. read more

I had the same experience with Bredenkamp as the other posts. I saw him for five minutes. He was more concerned about his trip to Hawaii than treating me. He looked in my nose and billed me for surgery. When I contacted the office, they said they would speak to him about the bill. They called me back and said that he said I had to pay the bill and it was my insurance's fault. I called the insurance and they said he billed for surgery and I had to pay the bill even though I never consented to surgery and my visit lasted five minutes. I paid the bill ($150 after insurance) and contacted the medical board. Not because of the money but because of the principal of it. He then sent me a letter that I needed to find another doctor. As if I would go back to him for more treatment. Now I unknowing tried to schedule with another doctor in another office and different city from my insurance list, not knowing that they were affiliated with him and they told me I can't schedule because I am flagged in their system for complaining ever though I immediately paid the bill. I am not a mean yelper but this is unethical. At minimum, the patient should be informed about this before the exam. read more

I give Dr. Bredenkamp a 6 star review dammit. He removed a baseball sized tumor out of my neck and did a full thyroidectomy on me less than two years ago. He is a VERY busy man, don't be surprised if it takes a while to get your foot in to see him. If you want someone who knows what he is doing (with your head and neck, it's important!) wait to see him!! If your case is urgent, as mine was, he will bump you up priority as he did for me. He has awesome bedside manners and came to visit me during my stay in the hospital. The facility is beautiful as well! I'm all better now, and I think God regularly that I was in good hands! I recently had surgery by Dr. James Bredenkamp. He and his office staff are wonderful. Yes, it's a busy office, but that's because this practice is simply the BEST!! The receptionists are very helpful and polite, the nurses skilled and competent, and the surgical scheduling staff extremely organized. Everything was coordinated to perfection and I could not be happier. You don't see all of these factors coming together so well or very often!! I am very impressed! When I first saw Dr. Bredenkamp, he listened very carefully to my symptoms and diagnosed my problem right away. I had salivary stones and I would need surgery to remove the submaxillary gland. I was extremely reluctant to have the surgery because I have had a number of other operations for other conditions and did not wish to have another scar. He gently tried to coax me into having the surgery to avoid further complications, also telling me that I would hardly see the neck scar because of its careful placement and his surgical closure technique. He was neither insistent nor arrogant, or that his way was the only way as some surgeons can be. I delayed the surgery as long as I possibly could. When I could wait no longer, I had the surgery. It was a brief overnight stay in the hospital. Well, let me tell you, when the dressing came off a week later, I practically had to search for the scar. Now, 7 weeks later, friends who are nurses tell me it's the best neck scar they have ever seen. Of course, now I wish I hadn't waited as long as I did. If you need an Ear, Nose and Throat physician, you could not be in better hands than Dr. Bredenkamp. He is professional, thorough, skilled and kind to his patients. read more

I was referred to Dr. Bredenkamp by my long-time primary care doc of over 25 years when my calcium levels kept coming up high. Turns out I had a parathyroid adenoma that would require surgery. I would generally trust anyone my doc recommended, but I had another physician also attest that Bredenkamp is one of the best in his field. He took his time with me at our initial consultations and managed to fit me in for surgery last minute before he would be out on vacation for a while. He does have a long-time surgical nurse (Alan Covey) that you can pay separately for. They've been working side-by-side together for decades so why wouldn't you want that type of team working on you for a nominal extra fee of $250? Flash forward, my scar looks great and has been healing fine. My only criticism is that the office assistant is clearly a little stressed and overworked, so it does take some time to get calls returned. Surgical coordinator was great. Overall, I would highly trust and recommend Dr. Bredenkamp. read more

*just trying to get you in the door, untrustworthy office* Waited over an hour for my appointment for the doctor to come in and tell me that my insurance won't cover a simple mole removal. This is after I called to confirm that my insurance would be accepted. They took my copay which I asked for back since they provided nothing for me, the office manager asked me to wait while she checked, this was another hour, then said since the doctor saw me to tell me my insurance would not pay it counts as a visit. After telling my experience to others,I have heard of others with the same experience of this guy just after the money. read more

I came to see Dr. Bredenkamp because I was not comfortable with another surgeon I met. Dr. Bredenkamp was attentive, patient and knowledgeable. I never felt rushed with him. It was a bit challenging to get a hold of Lilly, his assistant but she would always call me back. When i was getting ready to go into surgery Allen, his RN, saw i was nervous and put his hand on my forearm and said he would be right by my side and made me feel so much better. I am with Monarch Group and my insurance covered his cost. Even so, i would have paid the additional cost because they are a strong team and have been working together for many years. There was quite a bit of paperwork to prepare me for the surgery and what to expect after the surgery - no surprises. That was so helpful. I am on day seven and just had my sutra removed and its looking good! I had my right thyroid gland removed due to a large nodule that was possibly cancerous.
