In my previous review of this business I was very pleased with the help they provided even though I was driving a competitors truck (which had a blowout tire). Based on that experience I said when I was in the market for a new vehicle I would give them an opportunity. I had several choices on a new vehicle and narrowed it down to Toyota Tundra or GMC Sierra. Today, I signed the papers on the new GMC. I'm impressed with the overall quality of the truck and I made the right decision for myself and my family. So far I've only purchased a new car here, I'll update this review based on my service experiences once I've had one. For an idea of my experience and thoughts on the sales process here, read on. We had our vehicle choice narrowed down to three specific vehicles across three brands. Our salesperson at James Wood, Katie W, provided us with the same kind of experience we'd come to expect over the last decade. We're from the west coast originally, and buy a new vehicle about every 2 1/2 years (his and hers vehicles, driven for about 5 years each). We've bought a lot of cars over the years. Specifically - Katie worked a deal with us remotely. Phone calls. Emails. Text messages. No hassles about the communication format. Every single other dealer in Texas that we worked with was stuck in pre-2010 methods. We had a good experience with the sales team. The only criticism I will provide is their car buyer was so stingy we almost took a gamble to drive an hour to sit and negotiate with an "old school" dealer just because at least they were reasonable on our trade in. In the end we went with the bird in hand, the salesperson that had been very helpful and reasonable, and the modern approach to deal making. If we return in a couple years to replace my vehicle, I'll certainly shop my trade in more thoroughly and plan on selling it outright at the first sign of concern. Still, I do recommend this dealer if you are interested in a new purchase. We were in and out of Finance quickly, which is a big deal to us. Don in finance was great, we just have developed a distaste for that part of the process over the years. There were no issues here, though. read more

Figured out after I dropped off that there is another GMC Dealer much closer to my house. But Mike's communication, follow up and commitment to make sure my truck was fixed 100%. This GMC dealership has no respect for your time. If you have all day and can spend the rest of your life with no purpose other than waiting for their mercy to work on your car, then this GMC dealership is for you. I had an appointment on 5/31 for 10.30am. Was promised to be done by 12pm or latest by 12.30pm. Came in 7 minutes late due to traffic road closures lane on 380. Apologized to the check in person. Was told the advisor, Jared, will be right out. Sat in the car 10 min. No one came so I got out to the counter. By that time it was almost 10.50am. They took my car. I waited in the lobby till 12.30pm. Got up to check with Jared. He said it will be another hour and a half!!!! I had another appointment at 12.30pm that I had to call to cancel. By 2.20pm which was roughly almost 4 hours since I got here, I was told they only replaced one part for the headlights and I had to come back another day for another part for the windshield wipers that they will be ordering and since they already replaced the motor for windshield wipers so it'd be really quick. Came back in 6/2 at 2.45 for the appointment at 3pm. Waited in the car a couple minutes. The check in person came and Jared came a minute later. Jared said he could get me out by 4.30pm. How long do other places take to swap out the wipers? Two hours?!!!! This is a replacement for recall. I would have taken my car somewhere else had it not been a recall. This was my first experience visiting here and it will be my last. I told him up front I was going to write this yelp review for my entire experience for others to be aware. My car was done by 3.30pm. If I didn't mention writing yelp review, I could have waited till 4.30pm and later as he mentioned, who knows. read more

Buyer beware! I'm from Houston and found a truck I wanted to purchase at JW. I reached out to JW and was told to put a $500 deposit down to hold the truck. I was told that the truck was in excellent condition and I had the salesman send me pics. Going by pics the truck looked good and true to their word. I put the $500 down and after a few days drove the 300 miles up to JW in Denton with a bank draft in hand. Upon my arrival I began inspecting the vehicle and noticed that 3 of the 4 tires were original and 8 years old. 2 tires were almost bald and one was chewed up. I drove the truck and it drove horribly with excessive vibration presumable from needing 4 new tires. I now knew that this truck had not even been inspected by JW and simply listed for sale. The truck had the oil change sticker from the Ford dealership the previous owner took it to, the tires were a disaster, the truck drove horribly, the center console was cracked, and the battery terminals and bracket were corroded and rusted. How can you even sell a vehicle lawfully that is unsafe? Why didn't JW inspect the vehicle and replace the tires, vibration issues, patch up the cracked center console, remove the rust and corrosion from the battery, make sure it was safe, etc, before selling? I informed the salesman that I was never informed of these issues and would have to spend 1,500 plus for new tires as they were not safe to drive to Houston. I was very disappointed and upset that my salesman failed to tell me about these issues. I told the salesman that the dealership needed to replace all 4 tires so I could get home safely, or take additional money off the price of the truck and I would go straight to Discount Tire myself. The arrogant used car sales manager was very bothered by this and said he'd take off 500.00 but that was it. Like really? What a slap in the face. The managers response was "sorry no one told you about the issues." I asked the manager if he was really going to lose a sale over his failures, being the bad tires and not telling me of the problems beforehand, and he replied "Yep." Really?! After leaving JW to come back to Houston, the salesman called and said the manager offered to replace the chewed up tire but that was it. Another slap in the face. Buyer beware! read more

I had a very bad service experience at this dealership. I live 2000 miles from Denton. I was on a road trip visiting my son, and my 2024 Sierra 1500 came due for an oil change and fuel filter. I arrived on Thursday, having called ahead and made a service appointment for Friday afternoon. I'm only here for the weekend. I dropped off the truck, and I thought everything was fine after I picked it up a couple of hours later. But that evening, as I scrolled through the menus I noticed that the fuel filter was at 6% - where it was when I dropped it off. I looked at the invoice, and they charged me for it. I don't know if they did it and forgot to re-set the service indicator or if they charged me and didn't do it. I have a diesel, and my dealer at home tops off my DEF every time I take it in for service. They did not do that. Of course, by the time I noticed all of this they were closed on Friday. I tried to call the dealer to day to talk to any manager, because I leave to drive home on Monday and I wanted to at least let them know. The lady who answered the phone was nice, but there was no one to talk to me, and no one called me back by the time they closed. Basically, I think they took me for granted and didn't care at all because they figured I was from out of state and it didn't matter. If I were you, I'd avoid this dealer. My experience speaks poorly of them. read more

Service department lets me down... once again. Wow, how does this place stay in business? Sitting 2 1/2 hours and I have to search the service advisor out to find a status on my truck. Then get told it will late this afternoon before it's done, after already sitting here since before 7:30 this morning. So I get told they can drive me home or to work, but do not have any loaner vehicles. They are apparently too busy to offer loaners (according to the service advisor they have 80+ appointments per day). It's not like I am asking for a loaner while I get an oil change. This is a service issue under warranty and they are talking about me being without my truck for 8+ hours. I wish I could say this is an isolated incident, but have already experienced them saying they will call me when a repair is done, promising it will be done the same day, only to find out that the service department closed for the weekend with no call at all. They may be close to the house, and I may have bought the vehicle here, but I will be looking for a new dealership to handle my service... and I guess probably my sales moving forward. We like this place. And we like using a dealer for service. They have a great dealership and service center and everything to provide an outstanding experience. But they fail lately. 5k miles ago i had my traverse in there for an oil change and complained about it dripping oil from underneath for a week and a half. We took it in about 500 miles early for another, usual oil change and now the change engine oil soon alert. Sure it's a little thing, but it is a distraction to the wife driving and I have to google how to reset it because the dealership forgot to do it. I'm happy to pay the premium to have it done correctly and completely. And if I have to mop up the garage floor, make sure the drain plug is tight and reprogram the alerts, what am I getting over changing the oil myself or taking it to a discount servicer? This place has began to miss on the little things and the quality things. I will try once more but if not improved, will look elsewhere for service and purchases. read more

In March of 2016 my husband's crossover was totaled and he decided that he needed a truck. The first place he went was James Wood in Denton because we are a loyal Chevrolet family. Jesse was the first man to come outside and welcome us to the dealership. He was incredibly nice and comfortable around us. When we asked to test drive a truck we were surprised when he handed us the key and told us that he would see us back in a few minutes. Instead of forcing himself and the truck in our faces, he let the vehicle sell itself to us. He was reasonable and fair to both of us and we ended up buying a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado from him that same week. Yesterday my husband and I went back to James Wood to look into a SUV for me. After test driving a few cars we went to the Classic Mazda in Denton and the Mac Haik Nissan in Corinth. Visiting these two dealerships after James Wood definitely puts the level of customer service in perspective. The other two dealerships were so aggressive and tried the "what do I have to do to have you take this car home today" spiel. We immediately went back to James Wood and Jose Oropeza helped me purchase my 2015 Nissan Rogue SL. I LOVE my new car and I'm telling everyone to come to James Wood. I have no idea how they have such great reviews...being new to TX, I never had anything like this happen back home. I first attempted to reach out to the Jonathan Brown in Internet Sales, both with an email and a phone call and never received a response (should have stopped there) but instead decided to go to the second person that came recommended, which was Scotty Rice. We were at the end of our lease with another brand and wanted to see what our options were with GMC or Chevy so we decided to stop by, gave Scotty Rice all of our info, and was flat out lied to and told that because of a ridiculously low FICO there was no way we would be financed, which was super alarming but confusing because I knew that was not possible, especially since we lease a new car every 3 years! Sure enough, we went over Ray Huffines Chevrolet in Plano because they had the SUV with the added options that I wanted, and I now have a brand new Traverse in my garage. Scotty could have easily said, hey I'm busy and can't help you...but to flat out be deceitful? That's completely unethical and the kind of poor business practice I would steer clear of when making such a costly purchase. From what I have seen (researching reviews and my own personal experience), Texas dealerships are the worst...I think there is so much new money moving here that they do not need to hold the customer service bar too high, which is sad and the totally un-Texas-like. But with that being said, Ray Huffines in Plano (which will be my next review) was well worth the drive and totally made up for what James Woods lacked (price point, honesty, and great, responsive customer service). read more

I did not feel that my car was given any priority. It took 7 days to repair the problem, and several times I was promised I would be called with an update at the end of the day. Those calls were never made. Even though the immediate problem with the transmission electrical system was repaired, the underlying cause was not addressed, even though I asked several times that it be looked into. I was not pleased with the service and would not return. read more

I dealt with their internet sales back in December, and all I can say is that these guys seem pretty shady. I inquired about an advertised 2015 GMC with a reasonable sales price, and 10 miles. Upon inquiry, the internet sales manager tells me the vehicle actually had 3500 miles! Upon my stating I wasn't interested, he of course states they can sell a brand new one to me for the same price, with 0 miles. Never seen a brand new car with 0 miles, but I guess that was his way of saying very low miles, such as the 10 mile vehicle they had originally misrepresented. I said sure...if it's the same price, I'll come by and we can discuss it. The manager took some photos of the new one since it wasn't online yet, and it looked great, so we agreed to meet the next day. I drove an hour to get to Denton from Fort Worth the next morning, and guess what? The vehicle wasn't there. It magically disappeared! In the few business hours between him sending the photos and my arriving, they had supposedly sold the vehicle. Yet of course why call and tell me? I may get upset and not come! So I believe they withheld that from me, or never even had another vehicle. The sales manager then offers to find and procure an identical vehicle for me over the internet, and would give the same price. At that point, I had had about enough. I can find vehicles on the internet myself, and don't need some shady sales guy to do that for me. I put on about 35k miles a year for work, and trade-in vehicles every 12-18 months, but will absolutely never trust this dealer or any in the James Wood group in the future. read more

I'm unsure of how a CHEVROLET MANAGER is supposed to act when business does not fall through. DAVID SWEEDEN for sure does not know how to respond when business doesn't work out. I was given a better deal for the actual truck I wanted and was looking for. After looking more into the deal DAVID SWEEDEN was making me vs what was given to me by another dealer - Almost seemed as if I was losing out. Which led me to decide to choose the Limited LT Trail boss over a rst with some accessories. Prices were about the same out the door. So I returned the truck(RST) he used as a borrowers agreement on 11/27/21. Around 345pm on 11/27/21 David SWEEDEN approached my new 2022 Limited LT Trail boss and knocked on my window hard with his RING. I opened my door and as I did DAVID SWEEDEN starts calling me a sorry person. I explained that I found the truck I wanted and a good deal. So DAVID SWEEDEN gets mad and slams my new truck door with his RING (I have the marks on my door and should be on camera with your company). DAVID SWEEDEN should not have damaged my property, he should not have confronted me at all or outside the building and he should not be a manager. Also a manager with a very reputable company like JAMES WOOD CHEVROLET DENTON should not be calling people out of name. I do not feel comfortable knowing my info is left at your company with this type of person(DAVID SWEEDEN). read more

Bait and Switch... Purchased a 2008 H3. Sales person was great and liked him. When dealing with Pedro (finance manager) he sold us an extended warranty for 3K told us what was covered, handed us a nice brochure, then printed out the contract for us to sign. He told us that he was giving us the best warranty and our deductible was going to be $0.00. When we got home and really reviewed everything the warranty said we had a $100.00 deductible. I called him and pointed that out and he reviewed and said... sorry about that but it is $100.00... BAM stuck. Then I drive it to NC from Texas and an Automotive Service company look it over and it is urgent need of Tie Rods, and Ball Joints, plus the cv boots are torn. The warranty company said they wont cover it. I called Pedro and he said that the suspension is not covered. The brocher said it was but the printout didn't show it. BAM. I had several problems with the H3 and for the most part they took care of some of the items at their cost, but not without a lot of discussion to get it done. BAM What gets me is that all these little things should have been caught with their 10,000 point inspection they brag about... (not sure the real number of points but it is a lot) DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE..... Its all about getting people through their system and dont care about quality.... read more

Well I have good and I have Ever Bad about this dealership the first time we bought a truck from them it was wonderful....This time it was complete "HELL" we worked out a certain Interest rate by John Terry 3.49% and rebates .When we got there they change it to 4.99% when we took off work early drove 2 hour in traffic and was told this is what they said it would be.I didn't argue because I had left the sheet of paper at home and I thought we'll maybe I was wrong but the next morning I got up and I looked at the sheet of paper where I wrote down that John Terry said 3.49% interest. I called back the next day He made out like he did not say that , that it was a total lie and he would not let me get a word edgewise. So I hung up the phone on him , then I go a call back from Jess McWilliams telling me to only talk to him and not the salesman. I hope Mr James Wood reads this and knows how his staff Treats customers in Denton Texas...Please don't do business with them they tell you one thing and change it and try to make you feel like your crazy they didn't say that.
